Another good Sunday String-Along! Wonderful words about your father and the fathers in our lives. My dad bought me my first guitar-I received it when I was eleven. He was musical, but he didn’t know guitars, so I ended up with a no-name “folk” nylon string guitar, which was all I had for the first seven years. But my dad was a voice coach for kids, so my last year at home I asked him to teach me to sing better. Which he did. Went to college with a trained voice and a lame guitar, but I traded up a few times until the guitar situation got better. All that to say this. My dad, an orphan turned preacher-man, knew how to find the resources he needed, and he knew how to walk with God; and I learned from him how to do both. Happy Father’s Day, Brother Doyle.
Oh…and I know you’ve been pretty busy of late, but if things ever slow down for you, “Looking For a City” might make a pretty good “Guitar Poor” lesson.
Father's have such a big influence. Christian Father's, are truly a gift from God.God bless you and yours.Keep a pickin😊

I was blessed with a wonderful dad, who he and mom gave me my first guitar when I was 9 years old. It was a little old True Tone guitar from Sears that they bought for me, just to see if I would maintain my interest in it. I am now almost 67 y.o. and now 14 or 15 guitars later, I still have a passion for it! I have been so blessed with good parents. My dad went home to be with the Lord July 2, 2006. The story of you and your dad is somewhat similar. God bless you Doyle, and happy Father's Day!
My Father preached his last sermon at our wedding over twenty years ago and passed away not long after that.. I sure miss having those talks with him.. don't take your Dad's for granted..

When a child falls, and is crying, they need Mom to say," come and let Mama make it better". That child also needs Dad to say" get up, shake off, you're fine". God designed humans to need BOTH Mom AND Dad. Happy Father's Day. If your Dad isn't present in your life, may God comfort and bless you today.🙂

What a delightful find this is! Thank you, Doyle! My first guitar was a Stella - a rental. For Christmas dad and mom got me an electric - a National Westwood 75. But it wasn't until they got me a Lyle classical and I was introduced to fingerstyle ala PP&M, Dylan, et al, that I began to love playing. My parents could never afford the Martin steel string that I wanted, so dad took up guitar making as a hobby and made a classical and steel string for me. Both 50 years old now and non-reinforced, the tops are cracked and necks warped - but I wouldn't part with them under any circumstance, for in seeing them I'm reminded of his love and dedication to me. For the years, I should be a lot better player - but my gift has been more about writing songs about my experiences with the Lord, singing and playing them together with my testimony. Until he died a few years ago, there'd be dad, listening and crying. Then he'd kid me: "you should practice more". ;)

Happy Father's Day Doyle! Love the way you speak about your dad. ❤ I lost my dad to cancer in 2007 and miss him so much. He was not a musician but he always supported my love for it, bought me my first guitar and came to some shows when he could. Probably my fondest memories though are when he and I would go fishing. Love you Dad!

I really love these Sunday shows of your's. "I am a Pilgrim" brings back fond memories of playing that a la Merle Travis and "This World is not my home" using a christian classic guitarists arrangement (can't think of his name) as intro and modulated to the key of C to sing it. I don't do it anymore except to sing "I am a pilgrim", I play at home now for my own amazement 😁.
Doyle, God overly blessed you with talent as a musician he also anointed you to spread the word. I fully understand it also takes many hours of practice and studying to do both. Keep up the good works.

Doyle happy Father’s Day. I’m reminded of my dad,my first guitar a silvertone ,then a finder mustang, and the ultimate a 6120 Gretsch. My dad also recognized that I had talent and I still have that guitar today. That’s just one of many things I remember from my dad who sacrificed for me along with my mom. May you have a wonderful day with your family and I wish you God’s blessings.

Happy Father’s Day, Bro. Doyle! BTW, when you mentioned the negative portrayal of dads on today’s TV sitcoms, I was reminded of the way one of Noah’s children disrespected him when he got drunk. Such disrespect is worse and more pervasive today than back then, but the Bible passage surrounding that story indicates that such disrespect is not pleasing to God-even though Noah wasn’t a perfect man. There’s a lesson in that for this generation.

Happy Fathers Day Doyle !!! The Lords Prayer begins with Our Father Who Art In Heaven. I love your solo guitar style, but I was thinking this week, if I was a record producer I would really like to hear you and Phil Keaggy together. Do you think that could be a possibility?
Phil and I recorded some together. He is on my live sessions DVD as well as life behind the guitar. I wrote a song called On the great North Road and he is on that.
By the way, my grandparents all smoked as well. It was a different generation back then. They didn’t understand the dangers. Who knows what we’ll find out in 25-30 years.
That’s true… Everybody smoked back in the 50s and 60s. In some countries they still do. And no telling what we are going to find out in the future about Covid and all of that. We trust God anyway.
