In my 76yrs I've seen innumerable guitarists in just as many bands and solo formats and can say hand on heart that to see Tommy and Albert Lee on the same bill a few years ago was one of the best night's entertainment I've been privileged to witness, two of the most humble yet incredibly gifted people to pick up the instrument. Many thanks for this interview with a true master.
He is amazing and a true gentleman. I had a similar experience with him when I interviewed him for a community radio show in 1993. I was 19. His management said I had five minutes. He gave me 30min of his time. He asked if I was staying for the show - I didn’t have a ticket so I wouldn’t be I said - he said hang around backstage for the show. A treasured memory for me. ❤
Thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the interview. It means a lot to me that folks like you are out there and getting something of value from these videos. Be well.
I watched this video a month or 2 ago, and now I’m watching it after experiencing 2 hours of Tommy LIVE In Asheville, NC. You did an amazing interview with Tommy and it’s all new with this second viewing. Thanks for what you do.
One of the best interviews I have seen. Tommy Emmanuel, for me has been and continues to be a reference to follow in the world of music and guitar. Without him knowing it, he has been my teacher from a distance, and thanks to him I changed my way of playing the acoustic guitar. I love playing his songs, I have come to compose songs inspired by their songs (they will soon be released). The shame is that for reasons of distance (Spain) I have not been able to have the privilege of seeing him and meeting him in person... I know that one day I will😌. But with interviews, like yours, I have been able to feel closer to Tommy, and for that I am very grateful. You gained a subscriber, thank you very much and greetings from Spain🇪🇸.
I’m so happy you enjoyed this interview. I make these videos for viewers like you. I learn so much by meeting guitar luminaries, but being able to share with others - who also really love guitar - is rewarding. I hope you can see Tommy live. It is an experience you won’t forget. Thanks for subscribing. Maybe one day we will cross paths in Spain (I hope to visit in the next few years). Be well.

Never mind his entire life is a Guitar player. What a absolutely beautiful person of this world. Inspirational is just not a cliche term for this man. My life has been richer for Tommy Emanuel the man as well as the Guitarist.Thank you Sir.
Has to be one of the very best Tommy interviews out there. Well done! I had the pleasure of playing a duet with Tommy onstage at one of his guitar camps several years ago. He was the absolute professional helping a struggling player in the early stages of fingerstyle. Musical highlight of my life and the 4 days spent in his company were so enlightening. His workshop sessions covered a lot of the stuff mentioned in the interview. 70 odd of us hanging on every word. This man has been a gift to the world.
I just want to pick up my guitar everytime I hear Tommy. This is one great interview. I first saw Tommy, on the drums, with Phil on guitar in a band call Goldrush. I thought wow who are these two blokes. Thanks Tom, and Phil, for the tourney.
Great interview! I'll never forget my meet & greet with Tommy in 2023 at the Sheldon Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri. This pre-show event was a milestone moment. Tommy makes you feel like you are the only person in the room. Genuine. Huge & kind heart. The show was unlike any performance I've ever seen... and I've seen many. I was on a 'high' for weeks following. Heck... I still am today. Thank you, Tommy. 😌🎸👍
I, like everyone else, am mesmerized by Tommy’s playing…. But I must say, this was the best interview of him I’ve seen… you asked all the right questions, and of course he had the answers, but it seemed to open a more intimate side… and being a true fan, as well as a guitar player … he gave some valuable insights, which we can all take something from… and I appreciate that…. Great job man.
I’m so happy you enjoyed this interview. Tommy made it easy, but I really appreciate your kind words. Thanks for commenting. Hope you will subscribe and check out other videos. The people I talk with are so generous with their time and knowledge. I want them to have an audience of viewers who care. Be well.
Tommy Emmanuel certainly comes across as real, as humble, and as a lovely human being. His playing is magnificent, inspirational. As a guitarist of his generation, a road warrior for 60 years: his message, his playing, his insights, his humanity resonate so deeply. So very deeply. Thank you, TE!!!!
Wow! I was always a little suspicious of how upbeat Tommy and thought it might be something just for the stage, but I found out here he is like that all the time. I learned more about life and how to live it than I did about the guitar. His upbeat love for the life he lives and how he got there is an inspiratation for anyone. Thank you....
Great interview!! Watching from Nova Scotia , Canada. Tommy Emmanuel is such an amazing talent!! I could listen to him play and talk for hours. Plus he seems like a kind hearted soul.
Absolutely fascinating spontaneous interview-if interview is the best word to describe this wonderful exchange-the interviewer is letting his subject entertain us. I am also a longtime Chet Atkinson fan, he too has something special as a person and musician. Thank you for sharing this superb ‘interview’ with a great musician and delightful person. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 🎼👍😁🇦🇺🦘 During my time in the RAF stationed in Germany post war mid 50’s, the guitar brought together a disparate group of medic’s who formed a skiffle group-live music was all we had and regardless of the songs and styles, we were asked to play at every opportunity, Xmas concerts, hospital dances etc. The guitar is a universal musical instrument.
This comment made me so happy. Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the interview. Tommy was so kind to spend time with me. I'm glad I was able to share the experience with so many other folks around the world. Your comment is more proof of something I believe in my heart - guitar brings people together. All best from California. Be well.
Wonderful interview with Tommy .. never grow up! I love this attitude to life too! He's the best ... I see him play at every opportunity for the past 16 yrs at least! Always gives me goosebumps and a warm heart. ❤xx
Lover of all things Tommy. Great interview, thanks. I had the opportunity to meet him last December and had about 5 minutes of time with him. I asked him a similar question about his view of purpose in life. He responded, "being an ambassador of peace and joy." And I think that sums up Tommy just beautifully.
As much as I want to interject my thoughts into the conversations, I know it is really important to give my guests a chance to say what they need to say. So happy you liked the interview. More episodes are on the way. Stayed tuned!
Incredible interview of an incredible Player. This interview has it all ! Very very cool. I will see TE at the gorgeous Winspere Edmonton Alberta Ca Mar 2025. Thankyou for this production beauty . All the best to the best…Life is sweet with great music.🇨🇦😊💕😀🎉
I have seen TE’s live shows since 2001 , approx 15 concerts. The best was 2016 at Ryerson university theatre in Toronto . The sound was the best ever. 10,000 watts driven by one Maton acoustic ..bliss
Great interview! Tommy is the real deal. A fabulous and generous musician. I met Tommy in the early 90’s at a record signing… and when I finally handed the album for him to sign, he made feel like I was the only one in the room. I’m sure I’m not the only one to have experienced that level of engagement with the man. Little know fact…Tommy is also a killer drum player.
We saw him in Frankston many years ago, and he talked to us after his performance, just like he said in the interview. Wonderful person, extraordinary talent, made better by years of hard work
I'd never heard of Tommy when I watched this video. I love his attitudes towards guitar, Life, and making people happy with his craft. At 72 I am finally learning fingerpicking. I'm exploring all there is to find to enhance my joy in playing. For over 50 years I've just strummed chords, primarily because I love to sing. Now I'm determined to make my Martin D-18 sing. Thank you so much.
Tommy is an inspiring human and I’m glad you were able to take away some nuggets of wisdom from him. If you love it, it’s never too late for music. Help your guitar to sing and I’m sure it will take good care of you. Be well.
Great interview and really well constructed video! I was privileged enough to spend a few days with Tommy a couple of months ago at a guitar camp, and pretty much what you see is what you get with Tommy. The words genuine, amazing, hard-working, inspirational, gentleman are all apt ways to describe this world class performer and great person. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed the interview! I think it came together nicely, but Tommy sure did make it easy - he was so open and giving with his knowledge and experience. Be well.
I've been Going back and listening to these guitar legends that my Grandfather listened to these last 3 years because he was a classic country guitar enthusiast. Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Doc Watson. Tommy Emmanuel brings that feel that in many ways I see is being lost in modern sound. What a blessing to watch this interview and hear how humble Mr Emmanuel is. I hope your channel continues to grow as well.
Tommy was an open book. I really enjoyed chatting with him and I'm glad you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for watching and I hope you will subscribe and watch more videos. BTW, I watched some of your YT videos. You've got a great outlaw voice - keep on using it!
This is really fine. Thank You. I recently started playing with a bluegrass group and really was surprised how exhaustive it was. Those nights I slept 8 hours very deep sleep… It was like the first time I held a baby and was surprised how warm he was.
The word inspiring doesn’t do Tommy justice. I met him Australia several times when his manager was Ron Leigh. Tommy was never less than a gentleman and always a genius on guitar. The gigs with his brother were some of the most entertaining shows I’ve ever seen.
I was shocked at how entertaining his show was - one guy, an acoustic guitar, and enough energy to keep the whole audience rapt. It was a masterclass in entertainment.
"I'm in the happiness business..." That says a lot, from within and outwardly. This is, to my mind, one of the best interviews I've had the pleasure to absorb. Thank you. I feel grateful and invogorated, inspired, and informed for a productive day of practice and composition.
I see your channel is fairly new/small yet you got one of the most complete interviews out of the master. Great questions, and listening skills. Tommy came to our music class at the college and shared stories, playing tips and more, must have been early 2000’s. Such a sweet human and amazing talent. Cheers
Thanks for your comment. I’m just a regular guy who loves guitar, but I’m trying hard to deliver meaningful videos. It says a lot about Tommy (and his management) that he can make time for the new guy.
Honestly, without exaggeration, Tommy is a Guitar God. If there was a heaven for guitarists only, he would be one of probably 6 or 7 at the gates deciding whether you get in :). I saw Tommy last year in Australia, and obviously his guitar wizadry is quite breathtaking but his showmanship, his tapping on the body of the guitar, his dry jokes....makes me feel good to know that i was lucky enough in my time on this rock to witness this wonderful fellow in person.
Wow! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment. Tommy is an interesting, animated, brilliant guy - he could sparkle in any interview. The bonus footage of a backstage jam session and stage tour of Tommy's live rig will be released any minute. Hope you enjoy that too. Be well.
Thank you so much for this! I’ve loved Tommy for years & finally had the opportunity this year to see him live. And I guess that’s why this showed up in my feed. You gained another new subscriber with this. With respect.
I do play guitar, not near Tommys playing and style, but still inspired. The biggest inspiration though is Tommy as a human being. It started many years ago. His playing and being in combination have tought me so much. Learning I have implemented in my professional life, that has nothing to do with music. Its universal principles about being alive and a human being. This is a really great interview…
... Ya kno, yo knew, you know, Tom E's a manual in'strum'ental Maestro of guitaReal splendor. Just listening to his harmonic interpretation of Michelle, is incredible, and, that, alone, is more than enough proof. And he has been able to do it for decades, repeatedly. He is amazing ...
Glad you got something good out of this interview. I appreciate your positive feedback and hope you will watch and enjoy other videos on the channel. Be well.
This was a treat indeed. I fall in and out of songwriting phases, and this was just the inspiration I needed to grab the guitar and start the concept process. Thank you both! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the nice comment. Hope you’ll watch some of my other videos. Some great folks are kind enough to talk with me… but I think they’re really doing it for the viewers like you. Be well.
This interview as a whole was very warming to listen and watch. Maybe it was just the vibe between Tommy and the interviewer, but that was really wholesome. Thank you for a great listen all.
Happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment. I’m releasing some bonus footage of a backstage jam and a stage tour/rig rundown soon. If you subscribe and ring the bell, you should get notified when it is available. Be well. Best from California.
Glad you enjoyed it. Many thanks! Hope you will subscribe and check out some of the other interviews. My guests share so much good insight - would hate to keep it all to myself. Be well.
Thank you. Tommy is a true gentleman and what he says is so inviting. You have done a great job and now I must go open up some of your links and find a piece to bring home.
Happy to see you here in the YT comments. Hope you are well. Tommy is one of a kind. He had made and continues to make so much good music. A virtuosic guitar player for sure.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview with Tommy, truly delightful. Phenomenal artist and absolutely brilliant with his fans, and honest, helpful and encouraging with students and people he's inspired. I've seen him live several times and have been able to meet him a couple of times, too. Looking forward to his next show over here in November. You have a really cool channel going on here and I've just subscribed!
Yep, Tommy is a breath of fresh air. His show blew my mind. It’s hard to fathom how brilliantly he plays for hours straight. Glad you’re digging the channel. I’ve got more interesting stuff on the way. Thanks for your comment and for subscribing.
@@guitarmagic About 10 years ago I saw him play two sets during one show, it was stunning and mesmerizing. His joy and enthusiasm are just so captivating and infectious, not to mention his brilliancy on the instrument and beautiful song writing.
He opened for Eric Clapton in Sydney about the time of the Journeyman album. He was as you’d expect incredible. When Clapton came out To do his show the first thing he said was, “how am I supposed to follow that”. He was great too.😊
My bucket list is to be able to see Tommy Emanuel and Wizz Jones. I'm the worst player on the planet despite hours and years of trying, but I love playing because of being inspired by the li,especially of the great Tommy Emanuel
Tommy's the sweetest guy in the world. A country gentleman. I'm surprised he didn't invite you for dinner. By the way, how did you start playing guitar? What difference does it make?
Ha! Actually, I invited him to dinner but he had plans to eat with his whole road team. My pal @hzisser brought Tommy some ice cream from a local ice creamery after dinner, because they both love ice cream. It was a charming moment.
You know, it's funny. When I record these interviews I often have to set the camera up and then leave it... sometimes they turn off or the guest moves their chair and goes out of frame... So the whole time we are recording, in the back of my mind I'm saying, "this is a golden moment - please tell me this is all on film." White-knuckle production!
It takes a lifetime to learn there can be emotion and music in silence; and phrasing needs space. So beware of olympics and acrobatics. Music tries to express emotion, so try to find this in the song. Thank you, Tommy! Stay safe. Wish you all the luck in the world!

Tommy really is remarkable. Thanks for sharing your comment.
I always say great musicians should be granted eternal life.
they are. It’s recorded
Tommy, you are and will remain my inspiration, thank you for being you.

Wonderful, well done.
Thank you! Cheers! So happy people like you are out there to enjoy these interviews.
This is absolutely the best interview I have ever seen with Tommy. Thank you!
Wow! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment. Tommy is an interesting, animated, brilliant guy - he could sparkle in any interview. The bonus footage of a backstage jam session and stage tour of Tommy's live rig will be released any minute. Hope you enjoy that too. Be well.
Both the interviewer and the interviewee seem like great accomplished human beings. What an interview!
Thanks to both!!😢
Really appreciate your comment. Thank you. Glad you got something of value from the interview. Be well.
Thank you so much for this! I’ve loved Tommy for years & finally had the opportunity this year to see him live. And I guess that’s why this showed up in my feed. You gained another new subscriber with this. With respect.
Now if I can just see him perform with Mike Dawes, I’d be so very happy.
Happy you got something good out of this interview with Tommy. Thanks for subscribing. I appreciate your support.
Fabulous interview!! We got to see him in Arizona. So good.
Glad you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for commenting. Be well.
Thanks for your comment. I’m so happy you enjoyed the interview. I agree - Tommy is tapped into so bigger human universals.
This is an amazing interview filled with wisdom and so much expertise.
Thank you for all the gold nuggets.
🙏🕊️❤️✝️
Glad the interview provided some value for you. Be well.
Sincere honest.. Tommy one of a kind..🎶💞
He’s a good person and a helluva player. Thanks for watching.
Indeed, amazing.
Excellent interview. The relaxed approach and good questions brought out some different answers and anecdotes that I had not heard before. Good job 👍
Glad you got something good out of this interview. I appreciate your positive feedback and hope you will watch and enjoy other videos on the channel. Be well.
TE is a human treasure ... ❤
He's making an impact in so many ways.
A living galaxy class legend !
Galactic guitar hero!
@@guitarmagic No joke !
This was a treat indeed. I fall in and out of songwriting phases, and this was just the inspiration I needed to grab the guitar and start the concept process. Thank you both! ❤
Wonderful! ❤️ Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. Best wishes with the new tunes!
@@guitarmagic Thanks again 🙂
a good interview with two genuine people!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, and thank you Tommy for spreading ❤ and joy all over the world! Best regards from sunny South Africa
Happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment. I’m releasing some bonus footage of a backstage jam and a stage tour/rig rundown soon. If you subscribe and ring the bell, you should get notified when it is available. Be well. Best from California.

Happy to see you here in the YT comments. Hope you are well. Tommy is one of a kind. He had made and continues to make so much good music. A virtuosic guitar player for sure.
@@guitarmagic Wow! He has many albums. If you have a suggestion I am sure I would appreciate it.
I like Endless Road.
Lovely guy. Best wishes from Berlin, dear Tommy!

So happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment.
@@guitarmagic enjoyed is an understatement. This is a priceless source of wisdom that was extracted in such a professional and enjoyable manner.
Fantastic!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Interview! Tank you!
Thanks for listening. Hope you are well.
Great interview! youre good at this thing
@innerbanks thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I enjoy interviewing folks a bunch, but I still need to learn so much about making videos. Little by little…
He opened for Eric Clapton in Sydney about the time of the Journeyman album. He was as you’d expect incredible. When Clapton came out
To do his show the first thing he said was, “how am I supposed to follow that”. He was great too.😊
Following Tommy would be a tall order!!!
Met tommy in January he said love you brother as I shook his hand ❤
❤️
Tommy that was so enjoyable to follow along learned so much
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. I learned a lot by talking with him.
Fabulous interview. Thank you!
Thank you! Appreciate you watching. All best.
My bucket list is to be able to see Tommy Emanuel and Wizz Jones. I'm the worst player on the planet despite hours and years of trying, but I love playing because of being inspired by the li,especially of the great Tommy Emanuel
Thanks for your comment. If you love playing guitar, you’re already way ahead!
Fantastic feast to listen to Tommy as a guitar master and the human beeing, who popole should take as an example.
Thanks for your comment. Tommy is a special guy.
Truly an amazing human being 🙏🏻👍🎸🎸
Agreed!
Class, fantastic man brilliant interview

Love This! Thanks for doing this!
Happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Great interview!
Thank you!
Thnx for this great interview.... Just subscribed your channel brother...
Thanks and welcome. Appreciate your comment. Be well.
Thanks for this! 🙂
You’re most welcome. Thanks for your time and attention to watch. Hope you got good things from Tommy.
@@guitarmagic Always! I'm going to his guitar camp in August. I can't wait! Have a great day!
what a guy ☝️❤️🙏 absolute legend
He’s definitely one of a kind. So dang musical…
I *knew* I could hear an element of The Three Stooges in Tommy's playing! That's it!! 😄
Slapstick guitar… a new genre?
A treasure
Tommy is a special dude for sure. I really enjoyed talking with him. Glad you enjoyed it too.
That look at at 22m05s that says "TELL ME YOU GOT THAT!"
GREAT! Maybe Dm7 on 24:49, to replace Dbmaj+5? as interruptted cadence...
Why not?!?!
Tommy sir love from India ❤.
Hello from California! Thanks for watching.
It takes a lifetime to learn there can be emotion and music in silence; and phrasing needs space. So beware of olympics and acrobatics. Music tries to express emotion, so try to find this in the song. Thank you, Tommy! Stay safe. Wish you all the luck in the world!
Wise words.
