I am 57 years old. I have loved listening to many great guitarists over the years. Tommy's guitar playing is transcendant. Saying the guitar is an additional limb for Tommy is closer to fact than accolade. I think I have experienced more awe and joy listening to Tommy play than any other single performer (Robin Williams is the only other I can think of that may be a competitor) I have seen. I almost never see performers multiple times. I have seen Tommy twice and would/will go again. There is some unique chemistry between Tommy and a guitar in his hands that is just pure joy to be audience to. Tommy's talent is overshadowed by his transparent honesty and incredible humility. I have watched/listened to numerous interviews. It is so refreshing to see and hear the sharing of the joy and pain that is so relatable to us all. It is also incredibly rare (in my experience) and refreshing to hear the humility and credit to so many others from a talent of Tommy's caliber. He wasn't born great. He worked (and continues to work) his ass off to become/stay great. I have never been moved to want to meet any celebrity (even the ones I experience as expert at their craft). I want to meet Tommy. I would love to have the opportunity to just hang out over a meal (I'm buying!) In lieu of that, I will be sure to take advantage of the meet and greet at the next show in/near New York. Tommy if you are reading this - 1) I'm serious about the meal offer and 2) THANK YOU for being you and touching my life in such a beautiful way.
Tommy has only been on my radar for a few years but showed up like a hurricane! He's a phenomenal guitarist who I feel we're fortunate to have around to carry the torch after the likes of Chet and Jerry. I love your show, and thank you so much for having such wonderful guest, they never cease to amaze me!
Thank you so much for your kind words! 🙏 We're beyond thrilled to have had him on the show, and it's amazing to hear that you're enjoying our guests 🎸✨
@dopeYEAHtalk I am a guitarist and a big fan of Tommy Emmanuel and I really appreciate your interview, you have brought me a little closer to him. Greetings from Spain
I SAW THE BAND WHEN TOM WAS A KID PLAYING GUITAR AT THE SHOW IN A TENT. I ALSO STUDIED THE SHADOWS , A GREAT BAND TO STUDY IF YOU WANT TO BE A GREAT PLAYER. TAM from INNISFAIL NTH QLD.
This was a great interview, no doubt about it, but there’s one question that nobody asked Tommy along all the interviews I’ve heard, and is the following: “do you consider yourself better player or better composer?”. I know it sound weird, but just think about, Bach, Vivaldi, Andy Mcgee😉… Who are Mr. Emmanuel? A great composer or a superhuman guitar player? Who do he like to be remembered? As a composer or a performer? …because he’s amazing in both environment. Maybe I’ll just ask him directly in april at the Soave guitar fest Italy. ❤️🙏
Simple, repetition, repitition, and more repetition, till you can play without thinking about the next note or chord.. he would play a song up to 1,000 times till absolutely mastered. He said this 20 years ago!
Great question… Good old fashioned practice, practice and more practice..Tommy loves “melody” and lead is a great way to express that…He can never pass a guitar (any guitar) without picking it up…It’s like an extension of his body… He is totally dedicated to his craft.. Might all sound a little gushy but Tommy truly is an inspiration and all round lovely guy..x

Hey Joe. So curious to hear new songs coming out of that lovely studio you built for yourself. All the best to you and your family!

move your foot, gotta go.
your foot, its in the way. of us and his drink.
dear Rob, if you want to become a good interviewer you might want to listen more and talk less...
Our podcast is a “conversation”… Not just a list of questions…
How did Tommy go from being rhythm guitar with his brother on lead.... To being one of the best.... Wat were the steps??
