    You really helped a brother out with his Brother, brother! Liked and subscribed.
    P.s.: After I replaced the chip, it still kept showing the error message for an empty toner. I went to the menu, default settings and chose the 'replace toner' option, I briefly took out the toner and put it back in, pressed OK, and lo and behold, it actually works. Just in case someone else faces the same problem after replacing the chip.

      Glad the video helped Mourad Ch. I've been considering going to back to attempt reverse engineering the circuitry to see if there's another way around the problem. Just haven't had the time to dedicated to it. Appreciate that you liked the video and subscribed to the channel. Best regards.

    I cant thank you enough. I bought two cartridges on line from China and neither of them worked until you expained it - Kudos

    Thanks a lot, changing this chip meant hte printer would now recognize the toner.
    There is a separate menu on this printer (stop+clear, clear) to access the a 'toner reset' menu. From there I had to reset the toner (otherwise it would show up as almost empty).

      Correct I had to do that same reset after. Thank you for watching, glad the video was helpful.

    Thank you. Swapping the chip worked perfectly. Using blow dryer was a big help. My LD cartridge had been working but stopped. I suspect a dead chip battery but have not tested it yet. On the LD, the chip slides in and out the end of the holder after lifting 2 retainer "clips". Easy peasy. Thank you so much!

    I slowly added a low amount of heat from a hair dryer. I added a tiny amount of pressure to the open side of the chip with a single edged razor and could watch it raise and pop off. Switched as illustrated and it is working as advertised.

    How to do it another way. Press "Menu", select "General Setup" , go down and select "Replace toner", then go down and select "continue" - you should be able to print more now.

    • @HavingFunRepairs
      @HavingFunRepairs  2 года назад

      That works typically, but did not for me with this toner cartridge due to a fault with the security PCB.

    Thanks for the helpful video! I recognized your channel from the My Mate Vince Massive. Do you know if this still works? I've been researching printers and it seems they are always updating to prevent these "economical" work arounds.

    • @HavingFunRepairs

      Thanks for finding my channel and subbing if you have. I still use this printer and the swap has still worked for me on the latest firmware. You're milage may vary barring if your model is a later revision or not. Traditionally a revision is indicated by an "rev" after the model number. Mine doesn't have this so I've no clue if others do.

    Hello I have an MFCL2710DW. Prior to watching this video, when the original cartridge ran out of toner, I replaced it with a highly rated aftermarket cartridge from Amazon. It did not detect the cartridge. I then tried two genuine Brother cartridges, one purchased from Amazon and the other from Staples. The printer does not detect any of these. The message states "replace toner". Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

      Hello,
      There is another commenter who suggested working through the menu functions for replacing the toner cartridge. That did not work for me hence this video. However, if you have attempted that process and mine as well I'm not sure where to lead you next. There are a few good forums online and on Reddit with a quick Google search that may get you along a good path. All the best!

    Does it matter what version of firmware is installed on the printer? I just bought L2717DW and it has version ZB installed already.

    • @HavingFunRepairs
      @HavingFunRepairs  6 месяцев назад +1

      I always update firmware when applicable. That being said I don't believe this was a firmware issue.

    • @nimageofmine
      @nimageofmine 6 месяцев назад

      Ty. So I guess I can keep my printer. Someone else suggested me to return the printer since new firmware versions have additional checks that disable generic toner. Hence got curious.

      @@nimageofmine well keep in mind, the small circuit board I switched over came out of an OEM toner cartridge.

    • @HavingFunRepairs

      I understand. This toner printer is somewhat finicky. I always keep an OEM chip because a lot of times the generic chips in the generic toner cartridges just do not work.
