This one seems a lot more refined-looking than the Casio Royale. This is the one I'm eyeing for the multiple timezone function.
You should check out the
ae 1000w
It is. The Royale is too toylike for me.
Oh yea. This one certainly is much more dressy and classy than the AE1200. I just wish they released a non-chrome, black version of it too. This one is too shiny.
Too bad this one ain't 5bar nor does it have a 10 year battery
I have them both! You should get them too. The key differences are that one is dressy and the other is casual. Honestly, I have these two on my wrist most of the time. The fancy watches are sitting in the box more and more.
I'm a big fan of Casio digital watches and I own more than 30 of them. They were a real innovation when I was in college during the sixties. They are great fun and a perfect example of "reverse chic". Casio, as a company, is real "game changer" and has been on the cutting edge of technology for a long time.
Casio's first watch was launched in 1974.
Actually a perfect watch to travel with, if you can remember when that was. Cheap easy to use and if it is stolen or dies no great loss.
I like that retro 70's style a lot. If only the case was made out of steel. And came (at least) with a mineral crystal.
Until they make one, the closest thing aesthetically is the A-1000. I just ordered one on eBay from Spain. Full stainless case and noticeably better quality. Not a gmt though…
@@bobsmithinson2050 I was considering that one. But I'm not a fan of the mother of pearl. As soon as they make one without it, I order one.
@@MrPleers I hear ya. Apparently it’s not that noticeable on the black model (one I got). It is a fake MOP after all. I’ll only know once I get it. The white version is super obvious it’s MOP
The hand in jeans pocket angle is so helpful, THANK YOU. Gives us such a better idea besides close up wrist shots, wish more youtubers would do this.
this is the traditional world timer casio has been making since probably the 80s.....I had one around 1989 virtually identical to this, great looking watch
I love that you can pick up a Casio like this for under $50 and it'll be an interesting, kind of retro piece. I personally think the AE1200 is a better-looking watch with most of the same functionality, but the A500WA definitely has that 70s-80s retro vibe, which is also a lot of fun. For that price, one could easily own both.
the royale has better specs but how can you possibly think it looks better...wtf
@@chaseandrews9354 I agree with you 100%. OP seems a bit high.
They are quite different in sizes. One is suited for dressy occasions and the other is for casual. One is water resistant at 3 bar, the other at 10 bar. I have both. The 500 is on gold bracelet, the 1200 is on the black resin or brown leather. My fancy watches are sitting on the bench LOL
I have both :) and love them. Perfectly fun and functional watches. GMT features are so perfect! I just need 2 time zones, but this gives me 4 on the short cut.
Casio, underrated and undervalued as hell...
These watches get the job done and embody the 80s and early 90s completely.
I'm a simple man. E see a Casio review, I click.
I love my Casio royale in metal, cheap, comfy and don't worry about getting it wet
Just bought this watch before I begin travelling around Europe. Excited to use it.
Great video sir. The world time isn't important to me but i think that the square form and little world map adds a lot of class to that piece. Guess I'll take the gold version if i wanna go a bit more dressy.
Great video! 2 corrections/additions though. 4:28 that is a countdown timer. It has both features, a countdown timer as well as a stopwatch. Secondly, 4:38 In the time adjustment setting...you have an option to choose the light duration! You can choose between 1 second and 3 second of light duration. Which is pretty amazing.
This is a great little watch. I do remember a black plastic version of this that was out in the eighties. The only down side about the new version was the day display was in a dot matrix format and this uses a digital bar display. A classic salaryman watch.
I much prefer this to the Royale. Maybe it's an age thing. I'm in my 50s and the Royale is just a bit too 'over the top' for me now. Digitals are my era of course but this more restrained style suits me better. I'm just about to order one from Casio UK. Another for the collection.
I love my Casio Royale, amazing watch especially at that price. But this one looks just a bit classier and really retro. 👏 But to be honest, I'd go gold with this one.
Bingo. I'd get both. Oh wait, I have :) yes the 500 in the gold version.
Nice retro look! Great for weekends with a t-shirt and tracksuit. I have the A-168WA-1. So 80s retro-tastic.
That looks great! Never heard of it, thanks for bringing it to the attention! Really like the aesthetics (a lot more than the royale tbh..)
Why doesn't anyone remember the classic w-50u. This steel version was based on the w-50u. My favourite watch ever. They must bring it back.
I love all Casio watches
I forgot this watch on and went swimming. It was fine, nothing happened, so you can definitely get it wet. Just not for diving, I guess (the Duro is for that).
I have the black bezel one and I love it!! Only problem is a 4 Button casio just melts my brain.. im always guessing and pressing the wrong button..
I do miss that analogue digital clock though in the top left but it’s a nice watch for people that find the Casio Royal too wide or big on their wrists.
Hi Dave This is a great little watch, I was actually wearing it when I saw your video, might I suggest you take a look at the Casio WV-59 for a really retro look and it's RC. for perfect timekeeping cheers... stay safe
I just looked this one up on Amazon here in the U.S. I noticed a difference... On your example the map looks blue and on Amazon it looks black. I like the blue better. I might also just say, I have a Casio problem. I have to have at least one of each variant.
Very nice little number .Great clean display and a really good looking bracelet .
I almost bought a Royale then I saw this, looks way sleeker, cleaner and love that vintage look
I've had this watch for over 3 years now. The resin has scratches and marks because it has bumped into things but it's still shiny.
Love a500. Have the gold version and it's got so much charm.
I like that the A500 is square like the Seiko DataBank Roger Moore in Moonraker. Too bad some of the surfaces weren’t brushed - to eliminate all the reflected light. I would love to see a version with a stainless case.
I like the Casio A700 😃
GOT!!!! ;)
Holy bro why nobody noticed this guy😂
It's convenient to be wearing these kinds of watch. I'm planning on getting one of these just to wear then while playing futsal, because they're simple, thin (almost like wearing bangle) light and just tell the time perfectly 😁😁.
Plus, they're cheap, so i don't have to worry so much about getting them scratched compared to to those more expensive ones. 😅😅
I put a Casio Royale bracelet on my A500W..nice upgrade IMO.
I’m wearing this little gem right now. I’d like to change the strap just for fun but I don’t even know where to start.
A non-negative display? So...positive then?
Yes. Positive is the light background with dark numbering. Negative displays are black background with white or silver lettering. Negative ones are harder to read.
Got the royale in metal bracelet variant n ordred this special piece as do agree lot more dressier for when your out on a night out etc ... The royale is such a good piece though and think i will mod it to full metal in time...looking forward to getting this lil 500 though...Looks so retro with its black border... Not sure if uve reviewed the A700WE but wow that is my favourite vintage casio ....and if u have not a must review...
Grandpa!? I would say it looks a watch that James Bond would wear, yeah…in the 70’s! 🙌🏼
That puzzled me too. Maybe it's because I'm old but i think it looks sleek and cool.
Great review and great watch! I actually have the Casio Royale, which has a much more tactical look compared to this dressy one
Great review as always, Dave. I do have a Royale, but I like the looks of this world time model.
Cool review. May I please know what's the purpose of the rows at the top left?
Amazing watch when lightly modified (scotch brite brushing treatment plus a resin casio strap)
Can you elaborate the scotch bright brushing?
@@strikenryken I just used a scotch brite sponge to remove the polished look and give it a more brushed look.
@@martijndewet2661 Oh that's nice! I do not like the shiny surface on this. So you used the sponge side of the Scotch Brite, right? Cos there are two sides with being of a different texture.
@@albussd Sorry I was not clear on the details. I used the coarse (green) side.
@@martijndewet2661 No problem. Thanks for your tip.
The AE-1200 is just a bit too bulky for my taste, love this more compact and simpler design, if they made a steel case version of this it would be the perfect watch (for me atleast).
Wud be interesting to see a usual resin/plastic version of this with resin band
Which is the model from 5:26? It looks nice.
A little touch up on a wheel, would give a nice brushed finish on those large flat shiny surfaces.
Could you please expand on your comment? What do you mean by "touch up on a wheel"?
@@albussd a polishing/grinding wheel.
@@jonsonnenschein1253 Got it. Thank you.
Love this watch!!
It would be great if you check and review A158WA. Enjoyed this one!
debating between this one and the one with a black border on the face
Thanks for posting, not a bad piece but I do prefer the other one....🏴⌚🏴⌚
I just got this watch today and I can change the light to light up to 3 seconds.
I have one and I love it! it kills me that casio is not really making any cool digital watches anymore, where's the translator watch or 200m marlin digital, instead we get big gshocks and crazy edifice models... sigh
It look great on your 7.5 wrist but i dont think that square fits small wrists
I want to try out the gold version.
perfect watch for travels.
the only downside for me is that i dislike the metal strap.
Does this come in rubber strap like the AE-1200WH-1AVCF? I prefer the rubver strap as it is more sporty, but the smaller dial of this one.
New Casio A171 series looks amazing!
What is the purpose of those 3 rectangles on top left corner beside world map?
Yes Raman. That would be my question too. Just what are they doing there? 😕
Different settings notifications pop up in there, like when you set alarm or mute the watch.
looks cool
Retrooo. I like it
Can you swap out the Royale's watch band for this one?
Nice glasses
I actually wear them most of the time. I take them off when I film because they sometimes reflect my video lighting.
The Casio Royale is a fanrastic piece, ive enjoyed it a lot. This one doesnt feel as well executed.
I beg to differ, this one nailed the vintage looks imo
Both are great watches, however the one Dave reviewed in the video has a more vintage look
@@nakazatotakeshi4286 yeah i can see the appeal! I still quite like it, just not for me
I like it but i wish it's just a little bigger.
I disagree. the size is perfect. There are too many large watches these days.
is there a size difference between the model A500WA-1 and A500WA-1DF? I just bought the second one and I'm afraid it comes with a women's size :(
Nice
Just a thought Dave, do you by chance live next door to the CEO of Casio, if you did what a great video that would make if you were to knock on his front door with a list of questions, that would be worth watching. LOL
No, but I'm not far from Seiko's Shizukuishi Watch Studio where they make and design a lot of the high end stuff.
Hey I had watches like that back in the 70s 80s Grandpa iwatch my foot
Do you not have any Grandkids??
@@JusttheWatch No but people my age do I just don’t personally
@@dude28405 I'm not that far behind you...
Classyo. But the case is still resin/plastic AFAIK.
A500WA or AE1200WH?
I cant find it in europe in a good price, do you know any trusty page to buy it?
There is no such thing as Cheap. It is priced perfectly 🥰
But luxury watches, the term luxury itself is Perverted!
Very curious are you not aware that there is a far more beautiful version of this watch?it has a black frame a light blue tinted screen a light blue world map that makes it easier to track the time zones why choose a monochrome version that looks like a shrunken Casio Royale only shiner if you check out the gold one with the black frame gold tinted screen and soft emerald green map which again makes it easier to see the zones and casios gold plating is superb and hard wearing why are you bothering with momchrome it’s just the Royale all over again plus the original 1980’s model had a blue map lm sorry but l can’t see the appeal of the black and white A500’s it’s the colour that separates from the AE-1200 ! GOD HELP ME I DON’T GET IT ARE YOU ALL COLOUR BLIND ???
Dude you are Austin Powers.
I disagree, it is a timeless design, nothing about it says retro i think. It is dressy and elegant that is for sure
Your manner seems to come off a little arrogant
Maybe tone it down a bit … ?
I subscribed so I will be watching
Why is this watch $60 now?
Чувак анквалангист!
Yer, nah, if u need this type of thing, it's the Royale, although this could be an okay ladies watch?
Oozes 80s
The resin case ruined it for me :/
That's neet
Oh no! just the 30 meters of water resistance 😔
How can you beat a watch like this at 30 dollars.
I can't hear for the damn music!
Its funny how these casios are being reviewed as if anyone would use the timers or different timezones. Theyre very cool watches if you ask me, but not usefull for anything other then checking the time.
Honestly, the time zone is just that extra touch of retrofuturism
I use timers all the time
It's a cool design, but this watch is absolutely tiny and the strap is TERRIBLE QUALITY, sharp as hell with a terrible clasp. Why Casio produce such AWFUL quality stainless steel straps is just unforgivable these days.
5 stars best casio vintage
