I have this watch in the gold version for dressy times. I have the ae1200 with black resin and an extra leather strap for casual wear. Plus a G-shock for sports and water related outing. My expensive watches really don’t get much use lol
Oh it is very popular in Britain, it's considered an 80's retro piece, also its smaller in width at 33-34mm wide which is a good width compared to the AE1200
It is considered god tier in the US given the ridiculous low price and high value. Many young people get Casios as their first or second watches and fall in love. I never had one until 6 months ago and I’m in my 50s with a box full of watches in all price ranges. Now I own the ae1200, the a500 gold, and a G shock. I never would have guessed that I would like these so much!
I have 7 casio watches, ranging from vintage to modern and this is by far the most accurate one i have. It doesn't drift nearly as much as my other casios.
Another slim wrist here. I like that watch and prefer it over that casio royal, because of its size. A also Have the gold version, don't wear it every day, just on days I feel fancy. Nice to have it as an option in my collection of mostly mechanical watches.
I have this exact watch, but the bracelet made it look really cheap and cheesy. Maybe if it had the same finish as the housing, it wouldn't have been so bad. I've tried a few combinations on this. The first was a black resin band from a Casio HDA-600. It wasn't too bad, but the housing was a bit too shiny for a black band. The second one was the winner for me. This time was a stainless steel bracelet from the AE-1200. Perfect fit, the finishes go well together, and it makes the watch look not quite so small, which was another thing I didn't really care for about the watch housing. Just to see, I removed that bracelet and tried one from the AE-1000. Same thing, but the ends were just a little off. It looked ok I guess, but where the band met the lugs wasn't quite right, so back to the bracelet from the AE-1200, which is how it remains today. The AE1200 watch though? It ended up with a Walmart replacement band for the HDA-600, which is almost twice the thickness of the original HDA-600 band. So now the ugly duckling of my Casios, the light gray (I refuse to call it stainless steel or silver because it is neither of those) AE-1200, now has a this black resin band, plus I removed all of the external lettering with Goof Off, and finally, I installed a black JaysandKays BullBar that originally fits a Casio G-Shock DW-5600E. Yes, it turns out that the AE-1200 and the DW-5600E have basically the same size and shape housings, so the BullBar interchanged freely with no modifications at all. With just those few changes, the light gray AE-1200 now gets the most wrist time out of all my other watches combined. The A-500, SGW-500, AE-1200 black with silver BullBar and the DW-5600E are all tied for a distant 2nd. Curiously, out of the several BullBars I have, none of them actually ended up on the DW-5600E for which they were designed to fit lol. Sorry for the long reply, lol but sometimes I do that. EDIT: Incidentally, I ordered the gray AE-1200, and the pictures made the watch appear to be a lot nicer looking than it actually was. If it had the same finish as the A500 and A168, or even just a slightly duller finish, I would have loved it right from the beginning, and would have never changed out the band, but that watch was just butt-ugly in person.
I have the a500 gold version and the ae1200. I love them. But no they are not meant to be expensive looking whatsoever. They are god tier for their low price and high value. Don’t be so hard on them 🎉
Thanks for reviewing the A500WA because of the watch worlds obsession with the AE-1200 l feel this classy lovely watch has been left out in the cold. I love the Casio Royale as well but l think this model is a superior watch l love the black border and the soft blue tinted screen the world map in blue makes simpler to track the time zones lm not bothered by the 30mtr WR because it’s not the type of watch you’d go swimming in anyway l love the gloss chromed case too l’ve owned miine for over 2 years and it’s had a lot wrist time but it has held up so well, admittadly lm careful with my watches but this one like the rest of my vintage Casio collection just handles wear so well there is also a monochrome version of this watch both in gold and silver but to me they are unattractive and boring when Digital Casio finally reviewed this watch he chose the monochrome version which really baffled.me it looks like a shrunken AE-1200 l also have this model in gold even though lm not really a gold.person but it’s just so beautiful l had to have it it has a gold tinted screen and an emerald.green map there’s only one real review of that and he chose the monochrome over the coloured version l dunno- maybe they’re colour blind…! So thanks for your review this little fella deserves it !!! - robyn griffin Sydney (big fan !)
I went from no Casio watches in my 40 years of wearing watches, to 3 of them in 6 months once I wore my very first one the ae1200. Now I have this a500, and a g shock 😂 my other watches really sit in the box a lot
Thank you for uploading the review. I have a question - it seems that the local time is not displayed while the stopwatch or timer is running. That's a big con for me. One possibility comes to mind though, if you can check and let me know here. Maybe while the stopwatch/timer is being used, one can switch to timekeeping mode with the stopwatch/timer continuing to run in the background and one can switch between the two modes? And after starting the timer/stopwatch and switching to timekeeping mode, if you again switch to timer/stopwatch in case want to check how much time is remaining/elapsed, then does the timer/stopwatch stop or it keeps running?
I was about to say what about the light man. Hahahaha great review! Just got delivered an ae1200 but quite as You I have a really small wrist. I think this watch looks way better and kinda have the same functions.

It's a nice, classy watch even if it's inexpensive. Plus it has lots of functionality. I just kinda wish it's a bit bigger.
I have the gold color version. It is small. I just tell myself that vintage dress watches are meant to be smaller 🎉
This review was very helpful! I'm considering this one as my next Casio purchase in the far future.

Great video bro. What is the battery🔋 life of this casio watch?
The battery should last about 3 years.
Quoted at 3 years. YMMV some owners report 5 plus years
Thanks for your help, super help me

This is a vintage dress watch. What you describe is the model AE 1200 where an extra anolog showing local time is self standing.
Great review. Thanks
I think this one's too large on your wrist but the casio a158 would look perfect!
I have and prefer the a168.

I have both of them. My wrist is 6.5 inches. I’m happy with these watches.
my wrist is skinny too...was the watch adjustable??
Yes the bracelet can easily be adjusted using a flathead screwdriver. You just have to flip a tab to adjust the bracelet. No screws to remove.
Hi where did you buy this watch at Malaysia? And how much does it cost?
It's easily available. Just Google and you'll find plenty. Or walk in to any watch shop carrying Casio.
My wrist is about 8.5 inches, will this watch be suitable for my hand??
First of all, wear what you like. It may look a little small on you wrist but if you feel good with it, then enjoy what you like.
It is small looking on my 6.5 inch wrist. But I love the look.
On your outsized wrist it is hard to say. But, it’s of course up to you only.
No

I did throw my money at it 😂
But I love it
what a shame for the case is plastic. looks like a cheap toy because of that, otherwise really cool.
Yes, it's a shame. If it came with a metal case, I'd buy it. Painted plastic, never.
Just get a different model. Let us who appreciate it enjoy without the shame 😂 what a strange thought
