I also preordered mine via Gamestop, and I share the opinion like you Jhon, I want to play it casually after those long days at work, gym school, family etc, and have a good time playing the mini console and re-live those arcade glories from circa 90's, I don't really care too much about the TV connectivity aspect, but , I really want the white controller, it seems its going to become handy , when playing for a extended period, thank you for your honest opinion!
For me, Neo Geo has done a great job. It’s something I’m looking forward to, a mini cabinet. I love how they add controller and HDMI as well. However, the only thing I disagree is how they put different games in both version. I like the Japanese version, it looks beautiful as it is, but I’m more to Metal Slug. The International version looks great with LED circle on it, but it looks plain simple make it boring to play on the cabinet itself. I don’t mind on how the controller sucks , its not as bad as other people said. We were meant to have fun with it, but y’all take it too serious. I’d still suggest on buying the Japanese version and go have fun with it 👌🏻✨
Ninja Master's is one of the greatest fighting games out there imo. Sadly, it was overshadowed by the Samurai Shodown- and The Last Blade-series. The gameplay is fast, very smooth and combo friendly, a truly underated gem, I love playing it on my Neo Geo ASP!
If you set your tv to 720p odds are it will get rid of the soft look. When I played it on my 4k tv it looked off. I used it on my office tv that only does 720p and it looked accurate.
The Neo Geo logo intro song evolves as years go by. Blazing star is one of the newer later neo geo games thats why they changed the sound a bit. There were a couple other games with intro sounding like that too but i forgot which ones. We are used to hearing the older(Original) logo's sound. Thankyou for sharing! I have the Japan version. I need this one as it has several titles that I love that wasnt on the japan version.. Robo Army, Magician Lord.. Metal slug 4 and 5.. etc.
That's what I do. No ever mentions that you don't need the external controller at all for 1 player. You can play with the built in controls when it's on the TV as well.
I agree about the idea with not coming with the usb block. I’m fine with that. I have my own multi plug blocks around the house, and some I use to travel with. I don’t need a bunch of single blocks clogging my storage.
There are also some Samurai Showdown versions of the mini now that have all of the Samurai Showdown games. Also, all of the games on them are the uncensored Japanese versions.
I have the international version I'm thinking about getting the USA version next! I really love the one I have so I'd like to be able to play the other games.
The title says this is the us version but this is technically the international version. Just thought I'd say my OCD was really bothering me on that one lol
@@JohnRiggs 'US version' may presuppose the rest of the world is irrelevant. (Which will cost you views, assuming that's something you care about. Jus' sayin'. 😊)
I'd argue this is meant for folks who know of NeoGeo, and who would like a quick, cheap and easy way (plug n play) to play their games with no prior preconceptions.
@@scottkundel - I know, but a total of 4 hours driving just to borrow a Neo Geo Mini? I'm sticking with my theories. I'm thinking it was shipped to Riggs' work and that's why the video is shot there. Better to ship an expensive item to his work rather than his house where it could be stolen off of the porch.
I find the people complaining about it being a emulator and plastic made in china SUPER funny..... THEY ARE ALL EMULATORS! Unless it is a AES or arcade machine. Guess what the Switch is, a emulator... Guess what its made out of Plastic HAHAH. Guess where it was made China. (PS love my switch just saying...) I enjoyed this little guy for the hundred bucks. More so because I like the design. But I mean come on people...
@@GullySyde28 no, but I played one at Walmart and the artwork around the joystick and buttons were worn off completely, and one of the buttons would barely respond. After a week on display, the thing was trashed and broken. They are very poorly made. Not worth anything close to $300 in my opinion.
I would want to play it on my tv. Paying extra for a controller or 2 and the hook up makes it a bit much for me. They should of made a version that was tv ready out of the box.
I got this for $45 bucks. Totally worth it for metal slug. Just wish it had a battery inside. For $45 may be worth modding to stick a battery pack inside.
Is it's a usb to plug in the power adapter. can't you just use a chargeable battery. I use one for my phone. Thanks you answered my questions. Im going to pass on this one. Im so tempted getting a $1500 mvs console+flashcart. only problem i don't like any of the fighting games. but everything else i like, like metal slug, auro fighters, puzzle bobble ect. Meh on my pi 3 i got fba running neogeo pretty good with accurate turned on, a tiny bit of lag ever so often but the latency is reduced alot, it's very playable. but i had to overclock it to 1.4ghz which is pushing it. I think im going to upgrade to a pi3b+ and overclock that and see if I get even better results cuz FBA does more then neogeo. I wonder if the ODROID-XU4 would be better or worse. cuz it supposably good for the other emulators.
Nice video and thanks for the twitter responses john;) Hope last blade 2 has blood and finishers😬 Still on the fence, but thinking if I’m gonna spend the money on this thing I’ll probably go with the Japanese release to get the uncensored gaming that they should have included on all releases. I love some of the snk games but this is over priced and hamster has done a better job with the neo geo games and porting them over to the switch where they are much more reasonably priced and they look and play geat compared to how they are done on their mini console from what I been hearing
The fact that I can play every Neo Geo game for free on a 10 year old laptop with a wireless game pad makes this a tough buy. I love Neo Geo games but I'm struggling to justify the $100+ price tag. $60-70 is a bit more reasonable.
oh, I just remembered all the games on this mini console will be in the snk 40th anniversary edition that will release on every major system in November for $40 anyway so it make this rather pointless. but if it looked like the original neo geo with riginal controllers like the mini nes and snes then maybe I can see buying it from a collectible stand point
You are talking about the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection I believe. It's only on the Switch and all games are pre Neo Geo, so none of the games on this will be in that collection. Many of these games are available in the Arcade Archive series which are on all consoles.
Brian both amazon and gamestop has the SNK 40th anniversary collection listed for both the xbox one and ps4 so its not a switch exclusive. granted most games are snk arcade only games but there a few titles in ther that were on the neogeo. either way the games on the mini already have been released on the switch by hamster and they did a pretty good job with them.
The only way I will get one now is if it get hacked and we can add all the games for it on it. At present it's worth it if they lowed the price of the system and controllers (includded the hdmi cable too) or fix the audio, clickyness of the controllers and fix the picture when hooked to a tv. Also added a rechargeable battery or let us use our own.

As much as it pains me to say this, I will not be getting this and the reason is that the nintendo switch exists now i know that is a bold statement but it’s true. I own a consolized neo and i already have a multi-cart and can’t justify the expense of this thing when my Nintendo switch/ps4/steam with the Aca ports suits my needs better. Im glad this exists and it looks really cool but honestly my problem besides video out put is the controls, sound, and the novelty of the case. One thing nintendo got right is preserving my memories of the classic editions by keeping the aesthetics faithful to the original console, if SNK or whoever they are now would have released that deep red arcade cab version for the north American market and taken the time and care to specifically tailor this to our region it would of been an instant buy for me. As it stands this just seems like a missed opportunity and after-thought for north America no offense.
As soon as I see input lag on any of these consoles, it just kills it for me. Why bother at that point when you can just emulate and get the same or most likely better result with it? The whole reason I still play my real snes/nes console is exactly that reason. Especially snes. ZSNES is the only emulator that comes close to having almost no input lag but oops, it's inaccurate as all hell.
I’m a NeoGeo fan and I’m a fighting game player, but I ended up canceling my pre-order of this. Now from your review there’s also lag on the controllers? On top of no battery, poor HDTV output quality, no micro switch controller, no 3rd party support for other controllers, no mini hdmi included, no power supply included, and costs $135 before tax if you want the extra controller? This thing sounds like a bootleg device, but it made by SNK themselves.
This will be a pass for me. I own a lot of neo geo compilations on various systems and even though i can understand video game collectors adding something like this to their collection because its a novelty piece. I can't really see the practicality of it.

Wayne Bishop sam sho 1 is mostly obsolete by sam sho 2, which is identical gameplay wise and much more polished.
I noticed that the Int'l version censored the games. I bought one of these in Korea and Metal Slug seems to have all the blood and gore intact.
