This is probably the most fair short review of the game I've heard! "Instead of giving it a rating, it's in the top 5 of your favorite games you've ever played. The game isn't for everyone, but if you enjoy tactical RPGs, you'll definitely love this game." It's right on the money! I'm glad you played this game out of enjoyment instead of treating it like a business & forcing yourself to play it. It's just not the way, especially since this game is so great but SO overlooked. It has a great story, choices really matter, gameplay is well-balanced with right amount of challenge (not too easy where you breeze thru the game nor too hard where you're hard stuck & possibly give up). Personally, I may like Zelda, Final Fantasy games, and other RPGs in general, but Tactics Ogre has a WAY more complex story than the typical "black & white" scenario "I'm the princess! Please save me from the evil bad guy!" It's just more relatable.
I went into this game with the highest of expectations having played LUCT, and I was blown away by how good it was. LUCT (the PSP version) and War of the Lions had always been neck-and-neck for my favorite game spot. LUCT had a better story, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions had cooperative multiplayer. It was close for me. But Reborn changed the balance of power. The voice acting was amazing, though it took me a moment to adjust to it. I was expecting anime video game voice acting, but this made everyone feel real. Somehow, Nybeth delivered the "From ink of blackest night" line differently but great like six times. And changing the chapter cut scenes to use Catiua's voice really centered her in the story. I thought I'd hate the changes. (I feel like calling it a remaster is misleading, since it's nothing like LUCT, and in fact, it goes back and re-adds a bunch of SNES mechanics like the element system from the Super Nintendo version). Characters don't have three lives anymore? No trading skills between classes until CODA 2? Blue cards? The union level? But really, all of those ended up making the game better (or for the union level, didn't impact the gameplay for me at all, though I wouldn't care if they removed that feature). I'd also ignored CODA 3 and 4, thinking they were just extra, probably-not-canonical fluff. That was a mistake, as they give you a kind of expanded extra ending that expands the world and ties Reborn to the other four games in the series better. Honestly, I thought I liked Tactics Ogre in the LUCT form as much as anyone could, but Reborn proved me wrong. I went in with unrealistically high expectations and it still left me impressed. I will be surprised if another game ever dethrones this as my favorite game.
So well said my friend. It's been awhile since I made this video and reading this made me want to fire it up and dive back in. Such an amazing game. This is how every port remake or reboot should be handled. Keeping the essence but expanding into new territory
Fantastic game. Cant wait for FF tactics remaster and hope it follows in the same vein as this remaster. One of the best games ive played over the last few years was Tactics Ogre Reborn.
The Perma death always stresses me out in games but it wasn't to bad here. After a character goes down you have 3 full turns to revive them or finish the battle before they are actually permanently lost. The only time it got me was when it was an enemy character I was trying to recruit lol. The game is difficult though that's no joke lol
Don’t they let you rewind your moves if you made a mistake in reborn? Kind of defeats the purpose of a game or difficulty but I guess everyone would always save scum anyway especially if you lose one of your favorite characters.
If anyone dies just finish the game and time travel to get them back. More seriously tho, the game isn't as hard as its made out to be and its very easy to circumvent deaths whether it be just by winning the map before the very generous timer is up or just reviving the unit.
Mixed feelings but mostly positive. It kept every battle the entire campaign challenging. But then again..... It kept everything challenging lol. Sometimes I like to just over level and destroy stuff
@@AmateurGameReview I also don't like how they copy the turn back time system Three Houses had. When I played it originally on the GBA, I had greater connection with my units when they died off. But now the game is aimed at casuals who ruin the intended experience
Exactly the same for me when i first played it on PSP. It entered in my personal top 5. And now with reborn, i think it's #2.

ive been so hesitant to play this, even tho i own on ps5 and switch, simply bcuz of the difficulty factor and perma death. looking forward to this

Two completely different styles of games. But I will say I put way more hours into this and have thought about it more since I finished
