    People will say that you have the dream job, getting to 100% awesome RPG's and play all day. But man, I cannot even imagine how hard you have to work not just to finish the games, but also to make these videos. Awesome work man!

      As someone with an extremely similar job, it's fun 70% of the time (90% of the time if you're playing a game you love) but it does become very grindy at some points. I write guides and occasionally I will be working on the same game for an entire month and I have to force myself to finish cause if I don't all my work is useless. Kind of like coding, if you code 90% of a program you can't just release what you got cause the program won't work if you do. You HAVE to finish for any of your work to have value

    • @theneosuperzero
      @theneosuperzero Год назад +6

      It depends on the person. I enjoyed my games, but I hate the grind. Even if I REALLY like and WILL 100% that game, it always feel like a chore. Always, even if it's my favourite game like Tactics Ogre and FFT. So I can't imagine grinding thousands of games and the majority are games that I have no interest in the first place. It makes me throw up just thinking about it. Again, it depends from person to person. I wouldn't think playing games as a job as a Paradise tbh. It's nice, but not as good as most people would think.

    Whole game looks great but I agree with You bout 'Union Level'.
    I hate when devs/games limit You/use artificial difficulty to slow You down.
    Strategy games/rpgs do not need to add difficulty - played many of them and grinding levels helped just a lil bit - strategy and tactic was always way to win in battle.
    Tho this game is nicely done - Just bc union level I'm on edge - I don't accept limitations - I accept insane difficulty in fights bosses etc
    This is reason I'll pick PSP ver over that one.
    Disgaea / Stella Deus / FFT and many others have ramping up difficulty and it becomes realy hard later but don't realy limit You a lot.
    I would prefer Devs not limiting players and runing difficulty up - rewarding smart tactic choices and punishing severly bad ones.

    The older look (1995) was actually not really pixelated at all. It's something that seems to have been lost to time somewhat, even to developers. While modern sharp pixel graphics have their place and charm, I sorely miss the softer and more expressive style of the golden age of 2d, that just can't be quite replicated on modern hardware. The emulation scene has been working on shaders to approximate this for many years, and has done a lot of fantastic work, but there's still nothing quite like the original look.

      I miss it, too. This game in the original presentation was gorgeous to behold, and I really, really miss the old character portraits. It was genuinely one of the best looking games for the Super Nintendo! Though unfortunately I only ever got to play to the PlayStation 1 version on the actual console and have had to emulate the original. I actually have a Japanese copy of the Famicom game though, in the box and everything, because of how much I love it. The PSP version, while a significantly different experience, is really just as good and in terms of extra content and secrets it offers so much more, so I'm very excited to be able to play it again on Switch, something I've missed for years since my Vita broke. I have the Super Nintendo version on my phone under LaunchBox and Retroarch but having it on a proper handheld console is much better.

    Charms are a nice addition, instead of switching classes to min/max stats, you can just equip charms. With Final Fantasy Tactics and FFT Advanced, you want Speed, HP and Strength? you was going Samurai + Squire for X amount of levels. Same idea for Magic Power.

    Great review! Glad most of the changes seem like positive ones. Removing tedium is always welcome 🙌
    What do you think of the achievement list overall? Just glancing through afraid of new content spoilers, PS trophies seem to be entirely story related, which is a bit of a bummer but actually doable. At least it encourages seeing the 3 paths. Saw at least one related to the Palace but it didn't seem to be based on completing it?
    With you being someone who 100%s everything, I'd love to see a list of games you think are worth 100%ing. I know you do Steam achievements which don't always match up with PS but still.
    My list is very short and has no RPGs as of yet 😂 REmake2 and REmake3 because they really encourage unique ways of tackling the game as well as ones that are challenging but not absurdly so. Minimal collect-athons.

    Great detailed review man, Quickly becoming one of my favorite reviewers, Nicely done. I was concerned the chariot card system might make the game a pushover so I am happy that you say its still quite challenging regardless (Yes I could choose not to use it but if its there and I know I can use it then I tend to give in, its a weird thing where I sometimes prefer they just take the choice away then I am forced to ''Git Gud'' lol). Anyway great job!

      Yeah there are some games that are made worse because of save-states and rewinds when you play on emulators because it's hard to not use them when you know they're available at anytime.

    • @Terron29
      @Terron29 Год назад +2

      @@armorvil EXACTLY! I used to struggle on battletoads for so so long on the snes but then eventually myself and my sister beat it on an emulator in coop abusing the hell out of save states and I just felt....scummy. It was a cheat. To this day I still see it as I have never beaten battletoads lol

    • @armorvil
      @armorvil Год назад +2

      @@Terron29 They ruined the earlier Fire Emblems for me lol (GBA or Gamecube, mainly). The stats you gain at level up are random, and since you can savestate before leveling up, you can reload and do another sequence of actions so the RNG changes to make you gain different stats. But not only is the whole process very annoying, it's also cheating because your characters will be overpowered very quickly and it will ruin the tactical gameplay if your characters are invincible and one-shot everything. On the other hand, since the games can be very hard, not doing it means being ok with having crappy stat gains if you're unlucky and risking your characters to be one-shot-ted or barely damaging the enemies later on... It's a pure headache I don't have a solution for. You end up being obsessed with having the "right" stats, not too weak and not too strong, which makes the games not fun. The random stat gains at level up is one of the main interest too because it makes every playthrough fresh, but you neither want to get screwed (hence you use savestates - especially since they are games like Tactics Ogre where one wrong move can have catastrophic consequences and you don't want to waste time by restarting a battle from the beginning) nor make the games a cakewalk (so you want to get screwed by the leveling system sometimes but not too much). This turns the games into a "which stats my characters are supposed to have at this time?" game which makes them very unfun. Perfect lose-lose situation that makes those great games almost unplayable for me now.

    • @Terron29
      @Terron29 Год назад

      @@armorvil Can 100 percent relate as I did the VERY same thing. I love fire emblem on gamecube (my favorite with geneology of the holy war second) I would constantly quit out and go back in if I got bad stats. I think it was a bit ridiculous though as sometimes not a single stat would raise if i remember correctly? F that. There should be a bad luck protection like a minimum of 2 stats go up and max of 5 or something lol

    Finishing this game at truly 100% in a month is an astonishing feat of dedication, though I'm not sure yet just how much has been changed. Getting Cressida alone took me multiple gaming sessions of death marching, and don't even get me started on confirming every single unique drop from places like Palace of the Dead, San Bronsa, etc. It has been a long time so I could be off but in the PSP version I think you needed to clear the Palace of the Dead at least twice to get access to the Crest of Fire (in order to read precise Chaos Frame values), and a total of three times for something else. That game consumed the better part of 6 months for me to finally 100% and I only managed it with the loot table spreadsheets and through participation with the old regulars on the gamefaqs forums!

The first is Fallout Tactics, often criticized for failing to become what it was never meant to be in the first place - a proper Fallout game. Still, I came to appreciate it for what it actually is - a TRPG - and as such it was pretty solid. The second is Pool of Radiance 2 based on DnD 3dE, one of the first of its kind.
