I received a couple comments about fish being removed from the water. I did explain this in the video, but this is an important question I want to address. Protecting our wildlife and nature is a HUGE priority to me, and I try to emphasize this in most of my videos. The most rewarding thing I could wish for, is that through this channel, I can one day shape the world (even just a small part of it) into a cleaner and more sustainable place. I grew up in a small farm town in Germany and spent most of my childhood in the woods, learning about- and falling in love with nature. When it comes to fishing, I myself am just a person like everyone else. I self teach 90% of what you see. I try to follow the regulations as best as I can understand and remember them. Every time I go, I learn and improve - be it fishing techniques or safe handling of fish to be released. What is important to note - is that as you all know, I do record and publish my every experience, so my mistakes DON'T go hidden like they do with most other fishermen and women. They are there for the world to see, enjoy, or judge. Through this however, I have gotten lots of constructive criticism and learned a lot. Then I try to pass on this new knowledge to you in future videos. As to this video - while I have fished for Salmon many times, I have never faced the situation where I needed to be concerned about a minimum size. I was unprepared to measure and handle a fish all at the same time, by MYSELF on a boat. I did explain this and came up with a makeshift solution in the field to the best of my abilities. I even explained this in the video, that bringing the fish over the gunwale of the boat was likely not legal. Per WDFW - in marine areas 5 through 13: "“It is unlawful to bring wild salmon or a species of salmon aboard a vessel if it is unlawful to retain that salmon” (“aboard” means inside the gunwale of a vessel)." Ideally, I think the fish should stay in the water, however if this is not possible, it is still legal to measure them at the gunwale, as long as they do not cross over to the inside of said gunwale. Again, I really, REALLY do appreciate anyone who cares enough about our environment and fisheries to give constructive criticism, as I would do the same 👍I promise to never hide my mistakes - instead I will always stand up to them, learn from them, and share them with you all, so that we can grow better as a community. Thank you.
Great video! I fish in southern BC, but see many similarities. I’m largely self taught too when it comes to trolling -we do our best and learn more each time we get out on the water. Keep up the great work!
That bong tote was a score! That thing looks a lot tougher than the ones you can buy at Costco or Walmart. I appreciate that you always clean up, and suggest everyone does the same. Leave it better than you find it whenever you can. Thats how
I really appreciate how you explain everything as you go. I've basically had to teach myself everything and one of the hardest parts initially is figuring out the lingo. Been fishing for a couple of years now and I still don't always understand what people are talking about.
This guy is my ultimate youtuber 1. he uses all of my favourite songs 2. he picks up trash 3. he likes salmon fishing. the must be an options to subscribe twice...
For winter blackmouth 90 to 130 is usually the ticket and right off the bottom a few feet. Bounce the ball then reel up a few feet. Keep an eye on your downrigger to keep it close to bottom
I learned to lower the downrigger a bit slower to keep the flasher and bait in the proper trail. Nice and smooth so if your drag or spool has an issue, you can stop it nice and easy. It also allows a bit more time to fish the entire water column in the way down. I have caught fish on the slow payout enough times to make it a habit.

Great stuff man. I grew up in Lynnwood and spent many days and nights fishing from Edmonds pier. I never have been out on a boat in the sound though. Anyhow, greetings from Bellingham and keep up the good work!
There are coolers that have measurements on them. Bungie/tie your cooler by the side of the boat, flip the fish safely and gently on the cooler, measure. Fish will only be out of the water 10 seconds if it's a short and they dart away with life.
Great idea - definitely need some kind of firm measuring device on the gunnel or outside the boat! Wonder how many of those poor little guys en up spending minutes in nets and being held up in front of cameras.....
You may already know this, but try using a break away on ur 360 flasher. The action of the flasher can cause slack when fighting a fish, and with barbless is can cause lost fish. Also, try taping a yard stick down with double sided tape or Velcro to measure fish with. Just an idea. Great video
