@@wilbur948ieThe USA and UK were not the only countries that did slavery. It has been around for many centuries, it still happens today in the middle east. The suffering at times, was equal or worse for many under communism as well. The death toll in short time periods show that. Lastly, it was the British empire that decided to destroy slavery with their forces, and the financial cost took until the 1980's or something like that to finally pay off. History is more complex sometimes.

Lammy is a complete dollop brain. Mentions everything that the British did (and does) without the slightest sense of irony.
Are u slow or deaf? He addressed imperialism in the past in which he's a victim and said there's no going back in these day and age, like Russia is trying to do. He didn't need to specify the 7 countries in Europe that engaged in imperialism in the late 19th century to the mid 20th centuries. We know know who they are.

About time Britain found its fighting tone and made clear that we do not allow bullies to win, not now, not ever!
By "about time" you imply that this is a change of tone. We've been saying precisely the same thing, in strong terms, since Russia invaded 2-1/2 years ago. You might not like Boris Johnson, but he was brilliant on Ukraine, and all foreign secretaries and defence secretaries have been too.

The man was spot on in everything he said and delivered with extreme clarity. This kind of cutting through the noise is exactly what we need these days when some people (and some governments) are either deliberately twisting the rather simple facts of what’s going on, confused due to the dis-/misinformation, or unwilling to state the brutal facts. And when we understand and maintain clarity of what’s going on, it’s easy to see what we must do and keep on doing more and more effectively- support Ukraine and stop Russia. No question about it. Replace the word Russia with the UK or the US in his speech and then he would be spot on. The UK has no moral to scold anyone for wars, imperialism, and destruction. Not to mention the countries that the UK has attacked only in the past 25 years, that country is arresting journalists and humanitarian workers for reporting about war crimes in Gaza. Enough said about freedom and democracy.

You have to give credit where it's due. The UK, especially England, had a huge empire it gradually lost (as most empires in history have crumbled) as it overstretched itself, attitudes at home changed and massive protests forced them out. They learned a lot from that, one example being a black as foreign secretary despite there being still so many xenophobists in the UK. The UK today is just another small country that has learned its lesson, but has always had a tradition of supporting the underdog - nothing wrong in that. Fine words spoken here.

The only thing I disagree with is that Navalnyi was a courageous opponent and that it's only Putin who fights with Ukraine.
