@@EventyrsorenDenmark Yeah, these storms can come out of nowhere it seems. I thought I might get a bit wet but not a severe thunderstorm with a possible tornado too. But, as my Grandmother used to say “Alls well that ends well.”
Thanks Eventyrsoren. I appreciate it my friend. Take care!

I hope to see the pink Mtn Laurel next year but taking heed of weather 1st. The deer that ran away was saying hey man, don't you know there's a tornadey coming? 😂 Great video. I don't know if I could have stayed as happy as you waiting for help.

@@cindyclark9230 Maybe the deer did try to warn me but I don’t speak their language.. 😅. You do need to get out there and see the deep pink laurel next year. It’s beautiful!
There was just a peacefulness over me that day. I was never worried at all. I think the “big guy” upstairs was watching over me.
Thanks Cindy. Take care my friend.

Bad storm, I got turned around at 3 Forks a week ago. Maybe should have taken 1363 back to Stearns, ha, glad you got home safe !!

@@JimJayroe I actually thought about going out to Stearns when I passed thru Bell Farm. I didn’t expect there would be trees down in Pickett State Park too. The trees in Pickett took down some power lines.
I would have got home hours earlier had I went out to Stearns… Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 as they say.
      Thanks Jim. You take care.

I remember a different trip with you and hiking in some serious rain. Looks like it was a doosey of a storm that you got caught up in! I know that area got hit pretty hard with that storm, glad you were alright. I liked that Chestnut ridge to John Muir overlook hike. Haven't done it since that time you and I walked it. Keep meaning to. I'd like to show it to my wife too before she is unable to do any more. She would love the view. We sure did look that little spot over good, I don't recall ever finding anything that said there was a home there, but it sure looks like there should've been. I agree with ya, flame azaleas are beautiful! Thanks for the mentions and for the shout out. I do appreciate it! Hoping we can get together this fall and share and adventure again. We're overdue !

@@karlo8093 I sure hope we can get together this fall. My health pretty much shut down the spring season. It’s too hot now. Hopefully this fall will work out.
That storm did so much damage parts of BSF and still off limits to the public. I was about a mile from ground zero. Someone up there was looking out for me!
I gotta get back over there soon and look at the damage. Some of it will never be the same.
Thanks Karl. Take care my friend.

I have taken chances with the weather through the years boating, hiking, hunting , golfing etc. Sometimes you win , sometimes you lose. The sad part for me is that that part of BSF will never look the same again.

@@TrespassinTroy Thanks so much. BSF is such a diverse place. It really has everything any outdoor person could want. I hike off trail a lot. That’s where a ton of amazing formations and little known waterfalls are. If there were trails to a lot of these places BSF would be a lot more well known… Maybe that’s a good thing!

What an adventure! So happy you made it out of there! It doesn't really take much for Mother Nature to neutralize our roads and reduce our cars to immoble tin boxes.

    • @papawinthewoods
      @papawinthewoods  5 месяцев назад +1

@@JamesRobertSmith I was probably safer out on the trail I was on than I would have been in my Blazer driving out Divide Road. The number of downed trees was amazing! The Park Service crews cleared just enough trees out of the road to let us stranded people get out. Some people had to spend the night out there.
The Park Service crews are still out there on these not, humid days clearing the trails and the trees hanging out over them. It’s a mess. I don’t envy them one little bit. I sure want to thank them and let them know how I appreciate them for what they do!
      Take care and be safe!
