  • I have some large panel wood carving projects coming up and wanted to make an adjustable carving table for the top of my workbench. In this video you'll see how I build the carving table and the different considerations I took whilst making it.
    The top is made from 25mm (1") thick plywood and the rest from construction pine and some recycled oak from locker room benches. One could probably make this a weekend woodworking project.

    Love the combination use of hand and power tools. It is refreshing to watch someone with varied skills build a project.

    this is a good idea to make an art table.
    the professional art tables are expensive, and this is a better solution.
    this video already gives me an idea of how to make an art table.
    Thank you

    Very well-designed and useful carving table.
    Sometimes it is useful to soak dowels overnight in a mixture of mineral spirits and mineral oil (from about 50/50 to 25/75) before you thread them. This often helps with the crumbling a bit. FWIW.
    Thanks for the video!

      Ahhh yes! Thank you Jerry, I tried soaking overnight in linseed oil once but it didn't seem to do much. I'll try the mixture next time thank you 👍

    Excellent job Clint and a very good way to expedite (is that the right word?) your demonstration vids. You make the bit-and-brace look poetic; makes me feel ashamed to be so electrified... Cheers Clint, so good to see you on the air again!

      I have no idea if that's the right word, my English ain't so good, only been learning for 36 years haha. Well thank you Mark I appreciate your kind words as always! There is no shame in being electric, as long as you enjoy the process that's all that matters

    Really wish I had the bench like this for my space looking and looking for a relief carving bench and can't find anything but none tilting . Wish I had theperso to build this for me with little to no income

  • @ErrorUncertainty
    @ErrorUncertainty 3 года назад +3

    Impressive idea and execution! Inspiring use of hand tools too. One question: any risk the two dowels into the bench might weaken or break after a year of hammer blows? I guess you can always chop them off, drill new holes and maybe add more if it does happen

    Looking to get into relief carving and this is perfect for what I need! What did you use to make the wooden screws?

    • @ClintRoseCarving
      @ClintRoseCarving  8 дней назад +1

      I used what's called a tap and die set for wood, or wood threading kit. Mine was donated to me but you should be able to find one online.

    Gutted couldn’t see your video unfortunately as I’m severely visually impaired but it was quite interesting how you did it. I have to get someone to watch it for me and see if I can make one as I’ve taken up woodcarving recently and this would’ve been a good thing to have any chance of doing a voice-over on the demo

    • @ClintRoseCarving
      @ClintRoseCarving  4 года назад

      I'm sorry to hear that Paul, I will be using this a lot in the future so there'll be plenty of chances for you to know if it's the right build for you. I may also release some plans. Until then I would suggest searching for 'carving table' 'carving bench' or 'tilting carving' on Google, that's where I got a lot of my inspiration from.

      I've been busy and not much time for internet things until recently. I'm trying to catch up with what others have been up to 😊 I considered designing a bench for carving when I finally have the time for it and yours is brilliant in every way. Mounting a piece of wood with a carvers screw through one of the dog holes would be good too 😊 ॐ

    • @ClintRoseCarving
      @ClintRoseCarving  4 года назад

      Ah yes could use the carvers screw too! Hadn't thought of that, great idea. I understand, there's often lots to be done at home and it's a good thing to be busy I think!

    Great ideas and excellent work; but please don’t spend so much time showing me how you cut boards, drill holes, spread glue and drive screws. I can already do all that. I want to see what you built and how it functions. What cool features does it have?

    • @ClintRoseCarving
      @ClintRoseCarving  2 года назад

      I think I covered pretty much every feature it has, which isn't that many I suppose. It tilts, it fixes in place with the wood screws and nuts and the holes are used for dogs, that's pretty much it. The problem with me not showing the processes is that some people aren't too familiar with them, which allows for more people to feel comfortable attempting to make the project.

      @@deanparkes4644 My apologies for offending you. I watch a lot of "how to" videos and get tired of skipping through the mundane parts. I watched yours because I was truly interested and impressed with your work. With yours, as the others, I did not mean it as a criticism of your work or talent. Just some advice on presentation.
