@@revengeacademy That actually explains why he's so easy to use. but the utility of his special moves is trickier than most of the characters. I guess they wanted to make his smash attacks easier, but is specials harder, thus giving a beginner the task of expanding their attack strategy, while having a reliable moveset in any scenario?
Tevon James ~ the special moves require a little bit more _skill_ to utilize, but using them effectively is satisfying to the extent that it will have any player thinking “I wonder if other characters have special moves that are as fun as this.”
In melee he had the exact same kit but slower with slightly more damage. In brawl they have him the tech chase side b we know today and added the small hitbox at the end of his up b (the box that doesn't grab). Now with ultimate they changed his smashes, making him for the most part a different character now.
Falcon will always be the spike king for styling. Doesn't matter who's playing, when you pick Falcon, it is Smash Law to style on them with either a down-air or a crotch rocket (forward tilt) for the first 2 stocks, and on the last stock, chase them offstage with a side B or a Falcon Punch.
@@Firefox-Udon In Melee, meteor smashes could be meteor cancelled (Going in neutral position than pressing jump or doing Up b after 8 frames) while spikes cannot be meteor cancelled, in recent games it's the same thing
This felt a little underdeveloped. Although the montage was a wonderful example of various situations spikes can used in... that seemed like all you had. I think if you talked more about what good vs bad setups look like, how you can get outplayed while off stage, or the consequences of being too greedy could really improve your video.
Just practice recovering with your character. A good thing to do is to learn how low you can get below the stage before your up b can’t reach the ledge
I feel you on that I'm trying to practice the first spike is so rewarding but for me i either start the spike to early and miss and they to the ledge or to late to the point we're they can do it to me it's hard to for me to time when there close enough to spike and how high to jump well for me

That’s 25 shots then
The best Spike is King K rool because How OP his recovery is
How about inkling
Best spike is either Joker's Arsene Dair, or Ivysaur's Dair. Arsene is bonkers, and Ivysaur just carries around Death Star sized hurtboxes for some reason.
Is that a forward aerial I see

I lost count about 2 minutes into the video. Sorry.
It was too many.
@@Choctopus you've said variations of "spike" a total of 26 times in the video. I double checked.
You've also said variations of "meteor smash" 6 times.
And you say "dunking" once.
Same
Sanford Chu Good job!
Now I can’t stop spiking, thanks Choctopus!
Pirahna's spike is super fast and fun... also he's the first character I managed to spike with, so I may be biased. Great video by the way! I enjoyed it! Be sure to look for my comment that says "I was here since 25k" when you get super popular.
Mental note made! Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Does anyone realize piranha plant is developed specifically with beginner players in mind
Mine was yoshi
Well, I only have a spike half the time....but when you hit it...you're looking cool
Apharad: No one can take down mario's "Forward Aerial"
It’s true! ^-^
I just air doge I dont care if I die I dont care if I dont win the match because they get NOTHING they LOOSE good *DAY* sir
No no it’s funny aerial
1:05 how aren't you gonna mention C.Falcon? wasn't Ganon a echo fighter of CF which means he originally got his D-air from him?
Anyway great vid!
Marshon Brooks don’t forget that falcon also spikes with side b and up tilt so he could have been in the section with dedede
I mean he was pretty much an echo in previous games but his moveset for smash attacks changed
In melee he had the exact same kit but slower with slightly more damage. In brawl they have him the tech chase side b we know today and added the small hitbox at the end of his up b (the box that doesn't grab). Now with ultimate they changed his smashes, making him for the most part a different character now.
Ganon has a easier and more satisfying dair
Falcon will always be the spike king for styling. Doesn't matter who's playing, when you pick Falcon, it is Smash Law to style on them with either a down-air or a crotch rocket (forward tilt) for the first 2 stocks, and on the last stock, chase them offstage with a side B or a Falcon Punch.
I have a better thumbnail for this
"The art of ending a man's career"
Zelda has the BEST spike when the sweet spot is there. The sound effect with the red lighting makes it the most satisfying feeling ever.
I remember getting spiked by a Falco's side-b when I first got Smash Ultimate...
*i had no clue that it could even spike*
It was like that in Smash 4 lol
@@Firefox-Udon It meteor smashed (Not spike) since melee
@@MorphRed I figured that out late lmao. Also, I honestly don't know the difference between meteor smashes and spikes.
@@Firefox-Udon In Melee, meteor smashes could be meteor cancelled (Going in neutral position than pressing jump or doing Up b after 8 frames) while spikes cannot be meteor cancelled, in recent games it's the same thing
So I see you're a man of culture
This felt a little underdeveloped. Although the montage was a wonderful example of various situations spikes can used in... that seemed like all you had. I think if you talked more about what good vs bad setups look like, how you can get outplayed while off stage, or the consequences of being too greedy could really improve your video.
or if you want to use it to edge guard too
When you hit that Zelda d-air👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼😫😫😫💦💦💦
when you hit the ROB d-air
Love you’re name.
Otterfan :D I love yours too xD
LastOtter and btw I main Zelda and I agree that Zelda d-air is best spike
Max Roderick yes
The OG spikes, Falco’s and Marth’s DAir, are still priceless
I love incineroar's spike, but I've literally never successfully been able to do it...well, still got a lot of practice ahead of me, apparently!
No mention of Falco’s?
That shit is the most satisfying thing ever lol.
Dats melee
That ain't falco
Its better in melee but more satisfying in ultimate
Everybody knows that Luigi’s Dow taunt is the best spike of all!
Choc, two years ago you taught me how to spike before I even knew who you are. Thank you lol
Nice vid also found it pretty funny that I was in the video lmao gg
WERE YOU?!
Yes I was the cloud named kevin
Holy shit I’m so sorry I did you like that with Diddy LMFAOOOOOO
All good lol, also didn’t know cloud forward air was a spike thank you

I'm subbed
Thank you for teaching me
I'm legit so bad at spikes and ledge guarding lol pro players make it look effortless
Ikr me too. But I think it’s because I used characters that down smash fast so if I miss I just fall fast to my death(Ex: Toon Link)
J_Breezy03 yeah toon link’s down air definitely is a hard one to land
Just practice recovering with your character. A good thing to do is to learn how low you can get below the stage before your up b can’t reach the ledge
I feel you on that I'm trying to practice the first spike is so rewarding but for me i either start the spike to early and miss and they to the ledge or to late to the point we're they can do it to me it's hard to for me to time when there close enough to spike and how high to jump well for me
pick ivy
run offstage
cstick down
ez money
My first spike was in brawl, with wolf to a olimar cpu in a lylat stage. I never forget that
SAY NO TO METEOR SMASHING!. It's like a drug and you know what drugs do to you? It kills you just like if you miss a spike. It's not good for your life 😭😭
Yolo Webster *stares confusedly in Kirby main*
I think Zelda has the best spike, just because even if it does not sweetspot, it still sends down. Plus the noise is so cool.
Thanks for the like Choctopus!
I wish they would bring back the noise when Ness would hit someone with a charged up bat :(
Oh yeah I remember that from melee and 64
Final Tally:
24 Spikes, 10 Meteor Smashes
Nice choctopus
My first spike was in brawl when I mained Ike and got my first spike on my younger brother who was playing Yoshi and spammed egg roll and down b. It was a glorious back throw into a d-air since he didn’t know how to air dodge. My favorite spike was in ultimate when I was using King K. and I got a young link with a back throw and baited him into a back air and got him at 23%!
My first was also in Brawl. I think it was MK DAir... Not sure. My favorite was Belmont DAir. To quote Danny Devito: Suicide is bada**
For people who are having trouble with short hopping:
•press both jump buttons at the same time, no matter how long you press them, it‘ll always be a short hop
Kinda difficult for people with a switch pro controller though, with the different layout. You can't reliably press both with one thumb
NickNack When did this get implemented? Really something I'm gonna have to get used to. Have to learn short hopping asap.

I’ve been spiking with Samus, Lucas and inkling for a while but link is my main and it’s rlly hard to spike with him because you need to hit his dair at the very tip of his sword in the first 3 frames of the move. I have pulled it off but boy is it hard.
Great vid though!
Thanks for watching!
That is true
I think the up-tilt spikes are the most satisfying to land.
Examples: Samus, Dark Samus and Captain Falcon
Ivysaur down air
Zero Suit's down B has to be my favorite
I like king k rool back air if you land it its just so satisfying
1:33 Ike and Chrom up B to just do it offstage and fall like a rock on the head of your opponent is really satisfying
