  • I have been working on this vehicle for 8 months now and after all this time it has become obvious the Army used this for a Motor Pool parts truck. The Master cylinder was taken the large metal gas filter was removed the oil bath Air cleaner and brackets were removed most of the drive lines were removed. The carburetor was removed and many other small parts and lines were messed with. Then of course we find parts that were shorted. And just when we think we see light at the end of the tunnel something else happens. When you hear a noise as I push the gas pedal down that's the two rear wheel cylinders blowing out. I found that out after I made the video.

Its the money pit that keeps draining my wallet. You should see the mound of receipts. I am up to $1500 so far. so figuring in the $2600 original amount its now a $4,100 truck.

Yes its a learning curve considering I have not worked on a car or truck with parts that are this big.

Nice work Larry and its coming along slow but steady. I'm glad you have help with the Dodge because it takes two to do brakes. Thanks for the update ,Slim.

Yes well we did clean out the brake lines and it did hold pressure for a couple hours before the rear wheel cylinders blew. So today I ordered new wheel cylinders and rebuild kits. So we will try rebuilding the wheel cylinders first and if it doesn't work I will have new ones.

We just overcome one obstacle after another and do it right the first time so its not just patched together. Not knowing much about the history of this other than it was bought at a U.S. Army auction 10 yrs ago. Found army service record in the holder so that gave us more information. So its part guessing game and finally finding major parts missing like the drive shafts told us this was a parts truck.

well the wheel cylinders held pressure for a couple hours and we got all the crud out of the brake lines. You could tell that by how dirty the brake fluid was. So I just ordered new wheel cylinders and rebuild kits to use on the brakes. But yes we progress a little farher every day.

Hey there young feller looking good. Your master cylinder reminds me of filling the MC in my 48 Dodge with Fluid Drive. Lots of fun, my first car but it never made it to the road. It was a field car on my dad's farm. NJTP authority was going to put a spur through our place and forced us out so we had to sell off stuff so the 48 had to go. Good update.

Yes well I know something now more than I did before that the brake lines will hold pressure and no leaking lines until the rear wheel cylinders blew in this video at 8 mins 11 seconds into the video you could hear them blow. But before that we bled the brake lines and cleaned the crud out of the lines and the lines were not leaking. So at least we move a little bit farther every day. Thanks for watching.

Larry, look at it this way... if it was perfect, it would be a boring project :) The good news is you can fix it and bring her back..... Stay with it....

Oh yes when I started on this actually I thought it would take years to get to this point so in the big scheme of things I have been progressing pretty far. Now I know the brakes lines are cleaned out because when getting the bubbles out of the system all the cruddy junk cleared out. So today I ordered new brake cylinders and rebuild kits. Try rebuilding the wheen cylinders first and if it doesn't work i will have new ones. thanks for watching.

Larry I aways worry when you post a video without chubby, is he doing ok?

Chubby is doing fine I just wanted to make sure he was warm and dry with his old buddy Duke the 17 year old cat. Its like an ice box in my garage. That and I had the garage door open and didn't want him running off. The little guy runs so fast I can't catch him.
