2016 First Ice Lake Simcoe Lake Trout Smashfest! Jan 23/16

- Finally the itch was scratched! Some parts of Lake Simcoe froze over enough for our group of friends to head out to find some lake trout. There was a mere 3-3.5 inches of ice in most of our spots. So please be safe if you plan on heading out! It was a fun filled trip with a lot of running around between our guys to catch as much as possible on camera. Lots of great underwater shots were taken with the GoPro Hero4s. Most of the popular Lake Simcoe lake trout lures worked for us today. As a group, we landed over 20+ fish and lost maybe as many. #lakersmash

5-10 km/hr winds
Very little snow cover
Bright and sunny, minimal cloud cover

White tubes, lipless crankbaits, bucktails, swimbaits
●Depth:
80 FOW to 120 FOW

Medium to medium heavy ice rod

Hey, ever fished Johnson beach? I am fishing it on opener, and I'm afraid that it is too far west. How do u think Johnson beach is, compared to bearpoint or big bay point for early lakers and Whities? Thanks!!

+Theo T we usually try not to keep the larger fish and tend to catch and release our fish. But that is your right to keep fish. Have fun!
