Awesome! Watching that thing bend the rod in half, rip line off the reel, and those huge head shakes.......does it get any better? NO, it doesn't! Nice work you two.
@Shkwank C gaffs are only good for landing fish you plan to kill, this fish swam away for someone else to play with another day ! + It's much more enjoyable actually landing the fish. "Invest" LoL Had 1 and took it back, traded it in for a quad & yukon + a portable thermal summit. : P
If you know what you're doing with a gaff, single hook is better, you can gaff them in the gill without injuring them and pull them right out. A buddy of mine does it all the time but he's basically a pro. I stick with using my hands also!
We released the fish, I kept only 1 in my life as it wouldn't of made it back. No need for a heavier rod, it's a st.croix MH & I have stiffer rods but when the big 1 thrash around you need some play in the rod. Like my grandfather has always told me," the fish are where you catch em' " LoL Just watch the ice as it was thin and varied from spot to spot. 1 of our pegs went through almost instantly so I took it out and water starting coming out. Good Luck everyone & be safe !
10 lbs ice braid with 8 lb floro tied together with a blood knot. It's a 32" or 36" medium heavy St . Croix ice rod. This fish was caught on a tube jig & ya girls that fish do rock !!!
Enjoyed the video. Women who fish rock! I liked how she lightly petted the fish when she caught it. Very cute :)
Awesome
