- Join myself and Brian as we head up Ben Lomonds Ptarmigan Ridge.
Things were looking good as we arrived at the carpark with clear tops and plenty of snow on them.
As we set off things became more difficult the higher we got with ever increasing winds and icy paths. We stopped at the wee lochan to kit up properly with spikes, ice axe and goggles.
As we reached the steeper part of the ridge the wind was ferocious at times and it was hard to stand up. We eventually reached the summit with terrific views all round.
We then continued down the normal route to complete the loop, all in all it was a wonderful day.
Hope you enjoy the vid and please like & subscribe, it helps the channel.

@@douglashouston81 thanks Douglas, yeh when you get conditions like we did it is stunningly beautiful. Only downside was the extreme wind at times.

You should revisit this walk in the summer and cool down with a swim in Loch Lomond. I remember doing this hill as a detour while jogging the West Highland Way. Day one - Started Glasgow, jogged to Rowardennen and set up camp. Ascended Lomond and did a cyrotherapy swim in the loch.
Day 2 - jogged Rowardeennen to Tyndrum, nice flat section of the West Highland Way that takes in the length of Lomond lake.
Day 3 - Tyndrum to Fortwilliam. A hilly 42 mile jog being pestered by miji's. Was in my early thirties when I did this.

That was brilliant Frank cheers. Aye I've been up it a few times, mostly the ridge but never in the winter. I do prefer Ptarmigan for the ascent as it's a bit quieter and offers the views of the alps. You can never get a minutes peace though in summer with the amount of newbies 😂
@@marcomclean3605 cheers Marcus, yeh it’s defo the way to go up and the views are much better. It’s ok in the winter as long as your kitted up for it, the wind was horrendous tho 💨🤣👍

I think we were the two guys you met coming back down. I think we could have made it to the top but weren’t properly equipped really, could have done with an axe for a bit of safety. Looked nice on the top, funny, I said to the old man it probs won’t be as bad on the summit!
@@dixonpeter cheers mate, yeh axes were a good confidence booster to get to the top.

Nice one Frank......no drone footage?😂😂😂
Deffo the best way to do Lomond.
Made an attempt on Monday to do Bidein a' Ghlas Thuill (An Teallach) and the bottle went just over 90 metres to go to summit.😱😱Really hard going with the crampons and had passed my daylight return time.Got back to the car with 15 mins to spare before it got dark.🫣

@@northernjimbo hi and thanks for taking the time to watch & comment.
It’s a lovely ridge walk with spectacular views and a lot quieter than the normal path.
The ice axe behind my back is easy to reach when I need it, altho I don’t carry it like that most of the time. In this case I forgot to strap it to my rucksack when we stopped and just asked my mate to put it behind my back.
