This was the very first Lego set I built on my own! I remember I showed it to my dad and he pretended to get really scared of the skeleton. Gosh, I miss my him. I know things are tough, but I promise you they won’t last forever. Love you dad.

This little set is so special to me. Even though your criticism is valid. I remember it as if it was yesterday when I got it. I was 13, coming from the dentist, I had a tooth removed, however the local anesthesia kicked in too late. So I felt all the pain. Afterwards I was pale like a ghost because of the whole experience. In any case, the local toy store was just around the next corner of the dentist. And guess what I got from my mom as a reward for my dentist “trauma“. I love this little set to this date... and still have it in my collection :-)

I was 6. I loved the fact lego was releasing skeletons in 94.

Almost exact thing happened to me, it was 1995 and I was 7 years old going from the doctor (don't remember what was wrong with me) and on the way back across the street there was a Lego store. And my grandma bought this set to me, she couldnt afford bigger but I was going home happy. It was my first skeleton in my collection

I love this set to death, I bought it for the cute lil skelly! Was 7yrs old back then! Was so happy when my uncle bought it for me! Mine is well played, everything aged well, now after so many years it looks like an abandoned mini castle! The skelly is totally yellowed!
I still remember bringing that skelly wherever I go! Still loving it as an adult now! Got to love medieval castle theme!

Parts pack - definitely the best way to describe this set. Small price point, great pieces, a few sets together you are MOCing your own castle.

I adored this set as a child. Even with it's flaws I enjoyed having a mini castle with a baseplate :')

I remember building this exact set in 1995 when I was a kid. I loved it and,for whatever reason, never forgot it.

God, this is great. These are from a decade before I was born but my dad had some of these sets still that I can recall having the instructions for, this one included. I'm loving your reviews, Brian.

That's one of my least favourite castle set I owned as a kid, for the exact same reasons you explain. And I also totally agree, it really is more of a parts pack (that's also how I used it as a kid!)

I have a complete version of this set sitting on my cabinet, as I inherited it from a box of Lego from my cousin.
I had to replace 5% of the pieces with modern ones, I have the complete skeleton, but I'm missing the helmet, spear, and shield for the soldier.

I like the knight sets and had a few growing up. It is a shame I did not take care of anything back then. Had quite the army of knights back then. Bought the 90th Anniversary Set and I look forward to giving it to my kids as a gift. Will take all of my willpower not to “permanently borrow” their knights. Trying to buy an army currently but the knights/soldiers go for silly money on EBay.

I hate the noodle arms skeleton. The one that you got is far better.

Ya this was a great parts pack. The main build didn't stay built for long in any kids collection, lol

$16 used 4 years ago? Wow! It’s upwards of $30 plus now. Some of these used Lego prices are ridiculous.

What is the right type of skeleton? And how many types are they? I love this set and wish I had bought every set when I had the chance

This is the skeleton that was in the bag, which wasn't introduced until Ninjago in 2011. www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?M=gen047#T=P The one in the video is the correct one.

@@BriansBricks ah ok thanks man I know I have a good sized skeleton army of few different types some old original and nearly new types of them I've collected Alot of the sets over the years and have more of an mighty evil army than all of the good kingdoms combined or unless I need to do another head count still it shows that these an large number of evil troops Orcs trolls, small army of Cedric the bull, the skeleton army,Valdek the scorpion if I pronounced him right, the Chinese army from Orient Expedition the red dragon army and green dragon army and the original dragon lords from the time the royal lion knights were out lol man I wish I could post the massive bunch of evil kingdoms combined so you could see my collection

I had this set as a kid and thought it was a great parts set but overall part of the major weakness that was Royal Knights. If I was a designer and could have changed this set for a 95 release I would have done so differently. Upgrade the figure to an armored knight, the Royal Knights set was low on these as the only set which had Royal Knights was the big castle. Make it something along the lines of "Knight's Quarters" or "Royal Quartermaster" and throw in a regular infantry figure, a blacksmith/armorer figure, and a premium knight figure.
The building should have had at least 2 shields for decorations, and an axe, spear, and sword.
If you had every set from the Royal Knights set. You had 14 soldiers, 1 Dragon Knight, 3 kings, 2 skeletons, but only 2 armored Royal Knights, and each one of them being unique. The Kings outnumber the knights.

I never understood why lego never included the instructions for their alternative builds.

Sorry about your eBay purchase. I feel like the sellers more often than not are less than honest about these sets and shoot ambiguous pictures to cover the faults.

I think the main build looks fine. But even when I was a kid, I never liked that minifigure. It looks very childish and toyish compared to the other factions that came before it.
