    What can I say, Alan you are right. For me, the A1 makes the Mk 3 sound like it's in a cupboard... Untill you turn them up! Then the Mk 3 pulls it back more level. However, adding the sub seems to bring the sound quality back down for the Mk 3, although of course you get loud vol and bass! Form factor is a big factor here. I'll stick to my pair of Denons.

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  4 года назад +4

      yeah you only buy the A1 because you need something small and quality, you dont need it to go loud and you dont need it quiet either. 😱

  • @willtato8778

    I received my minrig 3s today. Very happy with them. Although there's an audible loss in treble, I've noticed that it doesn't have the same 'artificial treble boost' sound that other speakers like the m+ have. The minirigs are the first speaker I have which actually sounds the stereo I like, which is probably because of the extra reflections due to the 360 sound but not too sure on that.
    Bass does come out, but I honestly can't for the life of me understand how the bass comes out of it. It feels louder the further away I am. Not complaining though, just thought it was really interesting.
    Every time I watch an A1 g2 video, I keep wondering if I should have gotten that instead, as anything portable being able to reproduce 50hz and lower is really special in my mind. That said, for the same price as two A1s you do get essentially a 'free sub'.
    Still wondering if I should get the A1, even though I don't need it.
    Does that stereo pairing lock thing mean you don't need to press the button twice?

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  4 года назад +1

      There is no tws lock on the a1s, they are a nightmare to pair

    • @johnlacson94
      @johnlacson94 3 года назад +3

      You have to pair the A1s everytime. I've gone through a ton of Bluetooth speakers looking for the smallest one with acceptable bass response and I've found none better than the A1 for the size. If you're just getting a single A1 and battery life isn't a big deal (4 hours) then the 1st gen A1 sounds better/louder. I had a pair of those and loved them but stereo pairing kept breaking past 6 ft. I've recently upgraded to a pair of 2nd gen A1s in the hope that Bluetooth 5 will improve stereo pairing stability.

  • @94e88
    @94e88 3 года назад +4

    Yeah, the a1 may have more bass, but its not very defined at higher volumes. You can hear it even here on the recording that it starts to compress and distort on bass hits. Where as the minirig keeps it clean all the way to 100%, there is no added color or texture that results from being overdriven.
    The a1 sounds best at something like 60-80% and after that it starts doing weird things with the lower frequencies because it is running out of either excursion or amp power, a common problem with harman speakers.
    I know some people don't care and I'm fine with that, but for my personal use, it isn't an option.

    I do not want to be offending anyone but anyone buying speakers of that size (ie really small) to listen music at high or very high volume and expecting greatness are a bit dumb really because that's not what they are meant for , it's like someone buying a Fiat 500 and expecting Ferrari performance , these very small speakers are made to listen to medium background-ish volume and in this situation the beoplay A1 is by far for its size the most mature and Hi-Fi Sound speaker , of course there are cheaper speakers that are quite good and go louder like the superbe soundcore motion Plus which is a really good speaker but have no real deep bass extension .
    I have all those speakers and quite a few others and I did some experimentation where I invited people around for dinner or for a drink in the evening and whatever small speaker I was using and hiding somewhere for background music , my guests always could hear/guess that the music was coming from a portable speaker , except for the B&O beoplay A1 , many of them we're asking me where I was hiding my "sound system" and could not believe when I showed them the speaker . Now the big negative point about the speaker is the price as for the same price one could get the big bass Harman Kardon onyx 6 or the excellent Marshall Stockwell 2 to name a few and there are many more but they are much bigger .
    So to sum it up for anyone looking for a very small speaker that can be taken everywhere with a true full hi-fi-ish sound , and not bothered about blasting out loud music then nothing come close to this beoplay A1.
    I am not a reviewer but as I am disabled , i spend all my time researching and testing products as I am sound and vision obsessed and these are my totally subjective opinions so evidently not to be trusted if just with a pinch of salt lol

    Hi Alan. How are you? I have the motion boom right now which I love. But if I try to watch a video or movie there is a lot of latency. Is there any latency with the mini rig 3 watching movies or videos?? And in your opinion is just one mini rig 3 a good all-purpose speaker for everything, music podcasts, putting it in the middle of a room and that way everybody hears it the same as opposed to a directional speaker like the motion boom. Please tell me your thoughts. I don't mind spending the extra money. The motion boom was $85 the mini rig 3 will cost me $180

    Does the subwoofer affect the battery life of the Minirig, and how does collective battery life change when using the units as a system? I'm looking for something to listen to while I deliver since the console in my car gave out. Sometimes I wanna blast music (rock, metal, folk, dubstep, riddim, deep house, indie), and sometimes I just want a pleasant listening experience or even a podcast. If not either of these, do you have another speaker you'd recommend?

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 года назад +2

      no each unit has its own battery so if anything it would extend the battery life of the mk3 if it takes over some bass duties although minirig say the mk3 does not reduce bass with sub. the boom and the rave neo also come to mind. not sure exactly your requirements.

If listening at 90% volume most of the time, get the m3. Ugh! What if you alternate; sometimes loud, sometimes mellow. Which would you choose? A different speaker, maybe? @@alanrossreviews yea 2.1 minirig for sure beats the A1 and i would probably buy it but the 2.1 setup is still expensive and i dont want to carry 3 parts around and wire them together, thats why I have chosen a cheaper solution, the teufel rockster cross. Its a bit heavier probably but not much bigger than the 3 parts of the 2.1 minirig setup together. But for sure the minirig 2.1 sound more high fidelity than the teufel rockster cross, a bit louder and have better battery life.

      @@mxz2024 yeah ive been looking at the teufel rockster cross myself. have you got it?

    • @mxz2024
      @mxz2024 4 года назад

      @@alanrossreviews yea i got it since 1 year i guess and i really like it. Its a better jbl xtreme 2. Its louder, better sound dispersion, more punchy bass and especially also deep bass hearable but its a pretty tight bass not wobbly. Battery life is also pretty good. Only thing which is probably a tiny tiny bit better on the xtreme 2 is the treble detail/separation in some songs but not really hearable. The cross is also maybe 2-4cm bigger but not much. So overall the teufel rockster cross is really a more powerful and better sounding/fuller sounding xtreme 2 with a solid rugged enclosure. The enclosure tends to vibrate a lot so the speaker could dance on some surfaces but thats not an issue for me. If you lay it back, so that the back passive radiators fire on the floor, you can really feel the bass.
      Only downside now is, that the xtreme 2 dropped its price quite a lotm i think the jbl xtreme 2 is currently about 180-190 euro only and the teufel rockster cross still 250?
      Back then the jbl xtreme 2 was about 230 euro so i decided to get the teufel rockster cross for just 20 bucks more and i am really satisfied. Fully water proofness is missing but i dont need to swim with it. So in thsi weight class the rockster cross is probably the best you can get besides the minirig 2.1 but the 2.1 minirig is well over 250 i guess
