Since I read Cinderella for the first time, I've always claimed that he would cheat on her because he chose her by her looks. This scene is why I love Into The Woods.
Well he could have had anybodyelse, he chose the kind, natural one. I see your point though, this spoiled, facile, smug caricature of Prince Charming is quite on point. Plus, here I have a feeling he really just wanted her because she kept running away!
Maria well same can be said for almost any other fairytale prince then. Because fairytales like expressing “love at first sight” so the theme for it isn’t because they are beautiful. (Just an added bonus) it’s that Fairytales like expressing the idea of ‘love at first sight’ and ‘true loves kiss’ it isn’t meant to be logical. It’s a fairy tale
I hated this scene because I liked the relationship between the Baker and his wife, and then she does this. But I guess that was the point of it since this whole story is a deconstruction of fairy tales.
But the thing is, when in the songs that follows she says "the or means more than it did before" it means that she learned from it , and she corrected herself and knows what being faithful to her husband means
“I shall not forget you” Also Him: Literally forgets the same girl he spent three nights with and finds her by putting the same dirty and bloody shoe on a bunch of women in the town.
This makes more sense in the stage version where the narrator has a physical appearance. This scene was supposed to represent the whole fairytale deteriorating because the narrator gets killed by the giant. But in this movie, it’s just a voice-over (actually, I think it’s the Baker narrating) so it just turned into these two cheating on their significant other for no apparent reason.
+Disney Bunnybuo can we get a spoiler alert? I came here to ask a question while in the middle of watching the movie and now it's ruined. I'm mad at you now. >:( lol jk but yeah, now I ruined the movie for myself :(

+Merida Of Clan DunBroch He wouldnt be worth cheating w/. But if we were both single & in hiding... & alone...then ..."anything can happen in the woods",lol.
To be honest it was less of seduction & more of sexual assault. He was literally forcing himself on her. Simple girls like her can say "no" but can't resist when someone keeps forcing themselves on them.
yeah in the movie this is scene is a bit uncomfortable, in the og stage production it's more reciprocal, even tho they say basically the same things, it just really depends on how you frame the whole scene and how the director wants u to play it and this version is just a bit... i don't know. Like it's not bad, they both did a great job acting and singing wise, but the staging and all just made a bit uncomfortable
"Right and wrong don't matter in the woods..." The second me and my friends heard that at our play rehearsal, we were all over it. For instance, one joke we made: "You drag someone into the woods, murder them, and when they ask why, you say "Because RIGHT AND WRONG DON'T MATTER IN THE WOODS!!!" And they let you go..." Ah, the theater.
For a moment if we forget about story and the fact that these two are cheating on their partners, can we please take notice that it's EMILY BLUNT AND CHRIS PINE!! OMG! NEVER SEEN MORE HANDSOMELY PERFECT PAIR THAN THIS!
If the baker found out his wife cheated i don’t think that in the final song he would have been just as cheery and optimistic as he was despite losing everything, I think knowing his wife cheated would have completely turned the baker around
I feel like these scenes don't work as well in the movie as the stage play because there was no narrator to control the story to begin with. I felt like that added a lot of unique attributes to the play that it was controlled and everything was "right" but then they feed the narrator to the giant and everything goes "wrong" afterward
Oh I always felt that if she had to die horribly by falling off a cliff, at least she had that magic moment of confusion and kisses from a handsome prince 😂
Rapunzel's prince and Cinderella's prince are brothers and Rapunzel's brother is the wife's husband, the baker. So he fooled around with the wife of his brother's brother-in-law. The woods is a weird place indeed.
I loved the relationship between The Baker and his wife and i was so happy when they got a child.... but i really liked that scene! I liked THIS ship even MORE!
she went through all this trouble throughout the movie to literally have a child with her husband. The prince went through all this trouble to find his Cinderella with that slipper to marry her. And they gonna do them both like this…. What the actual heck 😭
the prince was justified because he is a prince who is spoiled the story could hae been perfect if the baker's wife said a clear no to him and cinderella found about him cheating her and baker and her wife together at the end and cinderella and the kids still living with them
That look on her face in 2:30 when he said "-something unpleasant, you must know that as a peasant" or something along those lines lmao. Also, no obviously cares but I'll just type it anyways. It's too early for this shit yet here I am typing away a comment no one would notice anyway so I'm free
This scene traumatised me! 😭 If bakers wife was portrayed in a way she would do such things similar to Prince. It would have been fine even if she does it, but she on the other hand had a husband, child and was a loyal character. And how she forgets everything they been through all these years just cos that guy is a prince. Prince was shown as a player so its fine how he behaves but she had a choice similar to cinderalla. If she had given a stern 'no' similar to cinderalla at the end, the Prince would have left bakers wife or things would have changed. But she fell for his words, and her 'no' was not really a 'no'. It was guilt tripping, curiosity, excitement and she just wanted the Prince to persuade her more into it so she could indulge too without much guilt. Infact She enjoys the kiss which is for seconds and comes to a dilemma where its hard to choose between her family and Prince, even though he treated her like trash. She is no were near loyal. I can't sleep unless I post this 😣. Good night all
Should've cussed at the attractive prince. At least the Baker's wife is TRYING NOT to cheat. He's the one turning on the charm something fierce... and women are only human too. I mean, look at him, lol.
this is what all the disney princes would really be like. i mean they fall in love with the protagonist from the first time they meet them, meaning they feel attracted to them solely based on their looks and the chase they get. even if they marry, they would 100% not be loyal. bc they're going to see some other pretty young thing and chase after them too.
"Anything can happen in the woods.. May I kiss you😎😎😎" THIS MOMENT MADE ME SO MAD I FREAKIN HATED CAUSE I KNEW HE WAS CHEATING AND WHEN PEOPLE KISS IT MAKES ME FEEL WEIRD AND UNCOMFORTABLE WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!

A life lesson from Chris Pine, cool." And the song continues and I understand that he really wants to kiss her he is not playing he is going for it. And I was like" Woah slow down there prince" like what is he doing??? He has a princess and she is married that can't happen. I was so shocked when they started making out. During the whole song my mouth was wide open
The Prince seems oddly gentle with the Baker's Wife here - I like the choice, but given how aggressive the original prince was, it's a nice change. I rewatched the clip from the original production and he's groping her like some common fiend.
He really caught me off guard with "can I kiss you?" like what?? and she was way too hype over the prince from the very beginning. All this talking about wanting a baby with your husband, but did you want your husband tho? She tried to blame the woods but she had an infatuation with the prince from the start
Celina Kay Yes, I realized that too, she was infatuated w/ the prince from the beginning. In fact, her husband was selfish("I only will go to the woods", like you can't help, is all by myself). The scene was weird, but it would have been deeper, if she have gone w/ the prince, and changed role stories w/ Cinderella
I have an explanation for this scene: The Woods itself is meant to represent the fear of being alone and a confusing labyrinth. This is why the wife cheats as she is very confused at this point, as is everyone else as they physically and mentally cannot find their way out of the wood, and it is only by the end, where they accept everything and their problems but decide to unit against them instead of going their separate ways, can they find their way out.
I LOVE but also kinda hate that he always plays the same kind of character in every movie he's in. Always over-secualizes, douchy, womanizer. And it annoys me cuz he's a great actor who should play DIFFERENT characters
