To me goldeneye is my favorite bond movie of all time. While it’s not the “best” bond movie of all time, this is the best casted film in the franchise, with each of the actors maximizing their screen time and completely grabbing me. In terms of sheer enjoyment, goldeneye is the best.
Goldeneye has the edge in every way due to Martin Campbell, who also directed Casino Royale. Not a coincidence that these are the best films for each Bond.
I never found Ourumov boring. I thought he brought something the other villains didn't: a villain grounded in reality. Xenia and Boris are over the top caricatures, and Trevelyan is sort of a generic smarmy world domination supervillain. Ourumov is a callous military bureaucrat who gets increasingly stressed out by what he's gotten involved in. His reactions to Bond's interference are always priceless. Bond races after a cliff-bound plane in a desperate attempt to catch it, Ourumov stops his troops from shooting him like, "Guys, guys, hold it. I wanna see this shit." Tank comes barreling after his car, he starts taking hits off a whiskey flask. He's actually my favorite villain of the four because he's the straight man on a panel of cartoon characters.
Alec is more interesting behind the scenes. When he's on screen, he's a mere mustachioed villain in the top hat, but he knows James inside and out, and is able to outwit him at every turn. James is never in control until that final confrontation and even then, he gets lucky. He really was James' better.
Honestly, I Think Tommorow never dies is super underrated, maybe as good or if not better than goldeneye imo. It's probably the film that's aged the best.
I totally agree. TND and also the third Bond with Brosnon suck, because neither their stories nor their realizations differ to any other action crime movie of that period. I am not talking about showing one expensive action scene after the other. A real Bond movie needs to have an alone standing idea concerning the story and its realization got to be spectecular, but at least ahead of its time, so that it sets new standards for the following movie makers during the upcoming years. Concerning TND and the third Brosnon Bond the only quality I recognized was a way larger convolut of promotion products brought into probably all markets around the whole globe.
@@sonnykingcomposer well i'm not sure about the statement as a whole, but TND feels more relevant now with what transpired with media in today's climate.
Agreed. Goldeneye comes together much more as a complete whole, whereas TND’s is more fractured with the sum of its parts, good in some, not so much in others. @@JRMAV1 First of all Barry Nelson was in an awful American TV version of Casino Royale where he was supposed to be an American CIA agent. So we can't count him as a proper Bond, secondly, Sean Connery IS British. But you're right about the other two.
I actually really liked Natalya. She felt like she could go toe-to-toe with Bond, but in a different field. She felt useful and I understand how annoying she can feel, but I really liked her portrayal
@@gawdstockton483 a black bond is better than a female bond, because at least then he's still a guy, but i still think it's a stupid idea. james bond is a male character. if you want a series with a female secret agent, create a new fucking character. make it different, not just bond with tits and a twat. does no one have original ideas anymore? i worry we're already going down this road, as spectre's villain was basically dr. evil from austin powers. by that i mean, that's where the brother thing comes from. nothing in the books or previous bond movies even hinted at such a thing. we can't have more bond movies where the villain is literally a parody of a parody of himself. it will kill the series once and for all. if they'll do this, they'll seriously consider having a bond with PMS.
Tomorrow Never Dies gets a bad rep I think. Its not the best Bond film but its not by any means bad. It could be better written sure (in earlier drafts Natalia from GoldenEye returns and dies until Paris was created), but as is its fine. It was originally gonna be called "Tomorrow Never Lies" but they thought "Tomorrow Never Dies" sounded better after seeing it as a typo in the poster designing. Also the ending credits song "Surrender" by K. D. Lang was originally gonna be the main title song and its much better than what ended up being in the main titles sequence.
Part of Bond's character is the sex appeal towards us, the female demographic. You know how the saying goes: _"Men want to be him, women want him"_ He's the coolest and sexiest British spy. That's what and who James Bond should always be.
As much as I love Jonathan Pryce he plays a completely stereotypical Bond villain, with a generic messianical plan and zero panache. Goldeneye has several minor villains, all nicely chewing the scenery and strangely believable.
Well, I totally disagree. Pryce steals every scene he is in, and he always has a bunch of great lines. Sean Bean's 006 is more like Bonds high-school buddy and is not a worthy Bond villain. Carver's caper to get exclusive broadcasting rights in China is amusing and totally carries the movie. 006's caper to bomb London is more like an afterthought so that they could get an ending.
@@bobgoran I agree in principle, but on screen Tomorrow Never Dies just feels like the plot is there for the sake of it and promises a lot more than it delivers. I guess you could say the same of many Bond movies, but I enjoyed the fact that Goldeneye utilised a personal element and also the Cold War background gives it some grounding. I guess it depends how you like your Bond. I feel that after brilliantly rebooting the series with Goldeneye they just reverted back to formula with Tomorrow Never Dies, with some rather over the top gadgets, a world domination plot and a generic large blonde henchman. Even the Bond girls seem there for the sake of it, in Goldeneye they at least had personality or plot relevance.
Me too. Goldeneye feels like a parody of a Bond movie. It hits all the right "notes" that general audiences are looking for but doesn't earn any of them. TND knew what it was -- dumb over the top fun.
I think Bond in Tomorrow never dies is the most handsome and best looking bond ever.He has the maturity which lacks in Golden eye.His fuller cut suits with less supressed waist and padded shoulders, the low rise trousers with no pleats nor cuffs but instead wearing a belt.A look many would not prefer but still looks absolutely amazing and timeless.
Pretty much every line of dialogue of Goldeneye is an outstandingly-Bondish and beautifully quotable, one-liner. "This time Mr Bond the pleasure will be all mine" "Yes! I am invisible!" "Strangling a cat?" "For England James. For England Alec" "For England James? No.. for me" "You'll BLOW de gaz tankszz!" "It's clean. I had to ventilate someone" "What are you going to appeal to, his humanity? Nope.. his wallet.. Well that might work" "She always did enjoy a good squeeze"
There is a certain style that Goldeneye gets just right. I can't pin it and it may have been helped by the game but it's just got a look and a feel that's not only totally unique but also very familiar. It feels so modern compared to all previous Bond films but also captures the time perfectly and has not aged like Brosnans others.
I really love this video! Thanks for sharing and glad you're reaching people (18k views!). I prefer TND (only just, both films are excellent). It's interesting you point out the look of TND as being a flaw. The high-tech Hamburg scenes are fitting for a film centred on media, and I feel that once Bond hits Saigon do we get a good dose of culture and local colour (especially during the bike chase, Wai Lin's bike shop and Carver's building). On Carver's Asian office, in your very video was I admiring the set design but later you say how it's something you consider a con. But I agree GE is very stylish, and it's a shame Campbell and Meheux couldn't work their magic for Casino Royale later on. What a clinical look that film has! While I don't agree with all specifics of you video (though most I do!), I agree with the general idea that GE and TND are great Bond films, and for that I'm appreciative of you posting it! Thanks!
•Goldeneye: Balanced take on Bond Blueprints = Great (my All time favourite) •Tomorrow Never Dies: More Light hearted take on the Blueprints with a few good dark scenes =Good (kinda ahead of it's time ) •The World is not enough: Very mixed extreme vibes, dark OHMSS loveletter, Decent when it's Dark, Goofy when lighthearted, Boring Production design/music = Extremely Mediocre •Die Another Day: first third starts interesting but the Hong kong and the Havana scenes partially lost me, The moment bond goes to "ice land" the movie turns into dogshit (except parts of the Car chase) = The Series had to REBOOT !!!! Thats how bad it was (Surfing Scene gives me PTSD to this day)
Clear Critique can’t wait for that. Sophie Marceau is one of the best villains/Bond girls of all time and I think incredibly underrated in the bond fandom. As for die another day, I remember seeing it in theaters and was so excited with anticipation after seeing bond captured and tortured in North Korea, and then they turned it into full blown moonraker (without the fun) meets robocop. It feels like two directors made two half’s of a movie and they just glued them together.
Jay Stockton I think you guys are talking about two different surfing scenes. The one in the beginning was just fine, the kite surfing a cgi tsunami is one of the worst things ever recorded to film.
Index. 1. Story 0:42 2. Bond 1:44 3. Bond Girls 3:36 [RANT] 5:01 - 5:31 [RANT] 4. Villains 5:39 5. Action 7:59 6. Presentation 9:19 7. Purpose 11:03 VERDICT 12:08 Twenty years later and my mom still randomly yells "I am invincible!"
Should do a comparison face off between each Bond actors best film. I would do Skyfall vs Goldeneye vs Goldfinger vs License to Kill vs OHMSS vs maybe either Live and Let DIe.
If it was me, I would have done Tomorrow vs the world is not enough. Since they followed up Goldeneye with an action focused movie [Tomorrow] and a dramatic focused one [World] and both are flawed but watchable. Tomorrow is a bit thin script wise but fun while World has Electra but also Renard and Christmas Jones. Interesting debate I think.
I think goldeneye was just a cooler film, I must be one of the few who prefers the score of Eric Serra to Arnold's bombastic bond themes, still awesome but I like the techno vibe. Story, Goldeneye has a mix of realism and awesome over the top action the tank chase being so goofy its pure fun. Tomorrow never dies has some insane scenes too, I loved the helicopter and bike chase. Villains, oh its tough, sean bean is excellent as the big bad and the support he has is quite strong. Carver is a really fun bond villain and you can see Chris loving the role, but his main man is generic "I'll break you" henchman so goldeneye wins. Overall these are two of the strongest bond films with lots to love.
Great review, but man, harsh take on Natalya. She’s one of the most resourceful and self-sufficient Bond girls in the series, survives the Severnaya hit by clawing her way to the surface... in Siberia no less, makes her way back to civilization, and has a fully independent story arc until she meets Bond, tracking Boris by herself. I don’t know the N64 game but movie-Natalya is freaking boss, my dude.
Natalya's appearances in N64 Goldeneye falls into a class of missions known as escorts which tend to be universally reviled among gamers. Basically imagine a bipdedal, untrained golden retriever off leash while people with guns unload bullets all around them and you need them to perform specific actions to proceed without them dying. Allied AIs aren't that much better today in all honesty. But I agree with you that the characterization of Natalya is off. She was an interesting take on a Bond girl and I didn't find her annoying. I enjoyed her rivalry with Boris. It contrasted nicely with Bond and Trevelyan. Onatopp was just so. . . over the top psychotic.
I heard that GoldenEye was written for Dalton, but Dalton dropped out and then the role went to Brosnan. I also heard that Natalya was planned to appear in TND but Izabella Scorupco was not available.
Agree with most of this, but the score for Tomorrow Never Dies is one of the best in the series, all the callbacks to John Barry... Never get tired of listening to it. The Goldeneye score by contrast barely registered for me.
Brosnan is sort of underrated. Goldeneye is tops for me mainly because of the memories it brings as it introduced me to 007. I believe that The World is Not Enough is better than Tomorrow Never Dies. The concept is better though they all have their weaknesses. Tomorrow Never Dies would have been better if Paris was someone who appeared to really have a film history with Bond, like the idea of Sylvia Trench.
If I was to describe Tomorrow Never Die, the word I would use is 'bland'. The Bond girl's in this film have very little substance. You get this teased romantic connection between Bond and Paris, but not enough to become invested in her to the point her death becomes a real devastation (plus the impact was ruined since you see Carver plan his wife's murder). When it comes to Wai Lin, she's packaged as the superior spy in Hamburg when Bond steals the decoder which I think really detracted from the film. Later on they do the whole 'Bond's equal' thing but she doesn't have a lot of character development apart from 'I'm a strong independent woman who will die for the mission if needed.' There's no backstory, no established motivation for being involved in the mission other than it being her job. This is in contrast to Natalya who gets given a backstory and quickly becomes a character you care about. The villains in Tomorrow Never Dies are also woefully underdeveloped. Stamper is just another terminator, Gupta is some fat gross guy no one cares about. Carver is probably the most well-developed character and yet there's something that still feels missing with him. It's probably because they tried to make Carver a Rupert Murdoch figure as much as possible that he loses some of his own identity. On the other hand with GoldenEye there is a stellar line up of villains. You have 006 who is Bond's equal in a lot of respects and you already relate to him as the tragic good guy who got killed off and then feel the betrayal Bond felt. Xenia, Ouromov and Boris all stand out well and I think Boris' betrayal of Natalya also help align Bond and her even further. I also agree with your points about the locations. When I hear GoldenEye I picture the dam, or the Severnaya dish/space station or the train or the cuba control centre with the big world maps, or even the satellite model itself. When I picture Tomorrow all I see is asian people on bicycles with a helicopter slashing its blades behind. Also, i think they messed up with the music choice for Tomorrow Never Dies. GoldenEye was all about modern bond while Tomorrow went back to old school. Just listening to the gunbarrel sequences you can already tell which is wayyy more cooler
My problem with Carver is that he didn't really seem threatening. From what I remember he spent most of the time showing off his massive ego. He actually kinda reminds me of Boris more than any actual Bond villain.
@@IsmailofeRegime Well said. He was more of a comical villain. His final battle with Bond was much less epic and than one Bond had with Trevelyan (even Xenia).
Goldeneye is more of a classic Bond feel, and Tomorrow Never Dies is definitely a sillier more technological savvy Bond movie. My biggest problem with the PB Bonds is the overuse of Q. Even when John Glen took over with For Your Eyes Only, his Bond's were not so much reliant on Q (however Octopussy is an exception). Tomorrow Never Dies is non stop, so it's over before you know it. They are both fun and they both have something different to offer. I like them both, but I also give the edge to Goldeneye mostly because it gets a lot of things right that TnD didn't.
What are you talking about? Overuse of Q? Q appears in one scene in GE, two in TND and TWINE. Q appears much more frequently in Roger and Dalton's era. In Licence to Kill, Q is practically a field agent. TND is classic Bond to its core, and your "non stop" assessment adds to the film's sense of urgency. The in-car briefing is a brilliant piece of staging. As for it being silly - all Bond films have a sense of outrageousness, even GE. Even DN and FRWL. TND has a good dose of satire and geopolitical/social commentary that is very much akin to Fleming's works. He always made sure to comment on Britain's place in the world and TND employs this convention admirably.
@@curiouscase0075 When I say Q i'm talking about the gadgets. The overuse of the gadgets. Something I agree with Craig on but didn't agree we needed a Bond with no sense of fun. I liked TND but it is a silly movie nonetheless.
a 3 years old video that I stumbled upon today but even though goldeneye is my favorite bond movie and I don't see that change especially after the crap that was no time to die, I must admit that tomorrow never die is like wine and gets better with time probably because how accurate it is to what media and information technology have become today...and I'm not reassured by that
Thanks for commenting! I hope you like my other Bond videos (I did one comparing No Time to Die to On Her Majesty's Secret Service that I'm pretty proud of). I don't think I made it clear in the video, but I love Tomorrow Never Dies. And yes, it's treatment of media is just as apt today as it was then.
REC is one of the best movies ever made, not just in the horror category. Glad u mentioned it and you gained a sub for it! When I determine if people have good taste, that exact movie is something I ask for their opinions about (amongst other movies of course). Haha xD
I can see you have a video about Spectre vs. Quantum. If Quantum wins I'm definitely turning on the notification bell! Spectre is god awful in my opinion... Too many screenwriters, I guess? Don't know. But the intro for the movie was great though.
GoldenEye isn't just better than Tomorrow Never Dies for my money it is the best James Bond movie ever. While most of the bonds took a movie or two to get in the right rhythm Pierce Brosnan nailed it right off the bat.
I agree with most gardein Pierce's movies as Bond. Die Another Day is the worst of his films but it didn't need to be. It started out as a fantastic character building story but when they got to the main villain they essentially ran out of ideas. So in order to make it action-packed and fantasy like they thought the audience wanted they turned the ending of the film into a bad remake of diamonds are forever. They could have done so much with Bond being tortured and brought to the brink of death by the enemy and show what it did to him psychologically. All they had to do was to dial back the villain to reflect more conventional villains like Carver or oo6. You said we got a ridiculous laser melting the polar ice caps are ridiculous ice castle that wouldn't even hold up long enough to exist on Earth and invisible car with television cameras and mini televisions that are bulletproof. Totally impossible and ridiculous.
Goldeneye truly brought out the original literary brand of Bond; the guy that would seduce his way into finding out exactly what he needs to know, then wait for four days in the jungle behind a rifle to take down the mastermind of whatever plot he was sent to foil. It just happened to be a friend of his in this story, so he didn't have to wait.
Michelle yeoh just played herself. You seen any of her movies you would know that. A Bond girl can be anything from a little ditzy to hardcore, this is evident throughout the entire series starting with dr. No. I actually love Natalia. She wasn't annoying to me she was emotionally tough and smart a good pairing for 007.
Couldn’t disagree more on your assessment of Natalya. She has personality, humor, independence, expertise and strength. The thing that stuck with me most tho, was her charming, don’t BS me self awareness that still maintains her humanity. Very much a great partner imo.
I think a lot of people don't realize how young she is too. The actress who played her was only 24, so presumably Natalya is around that age too. It makes sense that she'd be hot-headed and terrified. She isn't a baddie-turned-good or a secret spy who is used to danger. She's just a young Russian hacker who was doing her job when her entire life changed in the span of a few seconds. It makes sense she wouldn't be too nice to Bond when she is forced to work with him. He represents the sort of cold-hearted killer she is scared of.
@@razzle2429 I think it has more to do with Russia's history of oppression. Seeing the figures of Russia's military murdering their own people and stealing a terrible weapon would conjure up lots of memories of the then very recent Soviet Union. In addition to, as you say, her being a civilian caught up in Bond's world.
I personally think Craig was at least in two of the best Bond films but isn't himself the best Bond. Not the worst Bond to me either by any stretch, but just "fine" I guess. Specifically, Casino Royale is up there as a contender for my #1 Bond film and Skyfall is certainly in my top 5 though likely not my #1, even though I'd probably put Craig at maybe 4th as Bond (Connery, Brosnan / Dalton tied, then Craig)
Golden Eye is a great Bond film one of my favourites. My only criticism is for me a Bond film should always have a Q equipped car preferably an Aston Martin.
i still dont understand why they cast Judy Dench as M in Casino Royale since that movie is supposed to be some kind of " reboot " or " restart " . She s an amazing actress , she was a fanstastic M but how are we supposed to deal with it ?
golden eye was a great movie, the plot was iffy I think the villains just wanted to steal money. but great villain great visuals amazing game for 64 console. the only thing I remember about tomorrow never dies is he switched from using the walther ppk 380 to the new walther p99 in 9mm
Nice video, even though I disagree with many points. Brosnan being a cold hearted assassin just because of a glare? Sorry IMO Timothy Dalton did it so much better, The Living Daylights when Bond looks over Saunders' body is a perfect example, also when he kills Killifer in License To Kill, no Bond before or since could pull off that scene (and I am a fan of Craig, Connery and Moore) Natalya, the most underrated Bond girl to date, and is the best partner for Bond, the way she belittles him, and then succumbs to his charms (without losing her head) is perfect. Plus I like it when she kicks Brosnan's Bond in the shin and he does that groan. Villains, I agree Bean's Alec is one of the best villians ever. Boris is not great in fact he is an annoying c**t. Whilst Carver and Kaufman are just so camp in a way. They're great though. Action; again I agree the opening bungee jump is a classic, TND meanwhile wins here cause the film is literally action set pieces, not a bad thing. Locations; they're both great, but Goldeneye edges is out cause even though it is not as exotic as 'Saigon' its not as memorable. Music: No contest David Arnold's Score for TND, love old school classic, and whilst Eric Serra's score gets derided by most Bond fans, some of it is not bad. However the end song says it all, kd Lang's song is a great song, Eric Serra's no not at all. Verdict; Love them both, Goldeneye was the one that made Bond popular again, even though I find it overrated. TND meanwhile gets derision due to it being a big come down after Goldeneye, but I love it and its a major guilty pleasure. I really hope you do a Dalton double bill
Remember when TND came out and the series runners kept saying Yeoh's charactor was going to get her own spin-off? I vaguely remember similar talk with Halle Belly in Die Another day, but they really pushed the Wai Lin spin-off hard back in '97.
It was rather hypocritical of M to label him as a sexist....! in Goldeneye, but she encourages him to use his charm and seduction to 'pump' Carver's wife for info. Same as when Moneypenny warns him of his behavior could qualify as sexual harassment in Goldeneye, but incites him by 'deciding how much pumping is necessary' in TND. Consistency as far as character development and relationships were never their strong suit.
Tomorrow Never Dies, for me. Goldeneye is great but it's aged disgracefully. TMD, alternatively, has a story which has only increased in its relevance in the advent of social media and how popular opinion can be swayed in a digital context. Elliot Carer is as cunning, ruthless and cold as he is believable while Michelle Yeoh is my Bond girl.
Great video! I love your critiques. Martin Campbell sure knows how to make a damn good Bond film with Goldeneye and Casino Royale. Tomorrow Never Dies was very much ahead of its time. Keep up the awesome videos!
In reference of age compared to Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig is now no longer a young looks bond. He has become aged too and we all can see his age factor on his Damm face. Now we should get rid of him as a BOND. Since it has been 13 years we are sticking to the same fella. I'm fed up of him now badly.
Great video. Just found you so will be working through your previous uploads. TND was my favourite. I always seem to like the Bond films with comparatively bland story lines (The Living Daylights, for example. Who new a story about a weasel and an arms dealer trying to rip-off the Soviet Union's defense spending committee could be so good), and Brosnan and Dalton are easily my preferred Bonds. Regarding the music, though I loved the the theme, I felt that Eric Serra's soundtrack felt really out of place in Goldeneye, very non-Bond (particularly in the middle of the film), and is much better suited to Luc Besson films. Whereas David Arnold is, in my opinion, the best Bond maestro, and letting him go was one of the biggest mistakes the more recent films made. His music came from a perfect mix of technical proficiency and a love of the source material. I also suspect that the choice of Cheryl Crow's theme was a studio decision. Based on the recurring beats throughout the film, I'd guess that Arnold had planned for the excellent Surrender by K D Lang being the main theme, but perhaps the studio thought that Crow was, given her chart success at the time, a more bankable choice. Keep up the great work.
You call tank scene dull Are you serious When I watched it in theaters and when bond appear in that tank by breaking the wall everyone jumped from their seats. Everyone was cheering with top of their lungs
I would like to point out that back in the 70s and 80s there was always published rumors that Rodger Moore was quitting James Bond. This is the same thing that's going on right now with Daniel Craig. His leaving James Bond is just a rumor. This of course is spawn by him saying after Spectre came out "I hate Bond and I'm never doing it again." But people forget he only said this because he was asked by reporters on spector's premiere and before any of the public got to see the movie "when are you making another Bond film?( dorky voice)" it is my guess that Daniel Craig was pulling a Ronald Reagan. For those who don't understand what I mean by Ronald Reagan, because you're either too young or too much of a Democrat, I will explain. In 1983 reporters kept asking Reagan over and over and over and over and over and over and over " what are we going to do about the Russians?" Of course this question was to try to make Reagan look like a War - monger and the president knew it so he's out of anger and humor said "we start bombing in 5 minutes." Yes of course created another response by the Socialist Elite media which essentially said " see we told you he was a War - mongar!". With Daniel Craig the left-wing social media response was " good he is quitting that means the next Bond could be a woman like we want." Of course Spectre was not Daniel Craig's last movie as James Bond which means as long as he enjoys doing the movies he'll continue to do the movies and screw the left-wing media for trying to make him hate playing Bond.
On a side note I think The Man With The Golden Gun is kinda underrated. Silly yes but I love the villain Scaramanga because he has an obsession and respect for Bond as a killer. Makes for an interesting villain in my opinion. I'd give it a 7.8. Pierce is my second favorite Bond as well though with Connery of course at number 1. Trevelyan was a great villain.
Hey, thanks for another wonderful critique! But you knew you were going to get blow-back about the Female Bond part, right? May I? When you start yawning at the idea of a female Bond without explaining why, you make me wonder about the legitimacy of the point, altogether. Yes, I do agree that the manly James Bond with all the accouterments (sexy, irreverent, dangerous, seasoned) is an instant shot of adrenaline. (Someone once mentioned that every time a woman shows up in a scene in an action film, the tempo drops precipitously). Even Lara Croft struggled to maintain the urgency of the moment. But if She-Bond is handled correctly (pardon the pun) and not just as a woman with man-toys as you say, a female bond could be more than just physically lethal. Emotionally lethal can be fun, too. It just takes longer to set up the arsenal. Something akin to "revenge is a dish best served cold." "Delicious."
"Is Xenia a bond girl or a villain?" Well I guess there's a couple of things to consider. First: does she fight against Bond? What's that? She fights him twice? Second: is she allied to the Big Bad? Well I suppose the scene in Siberia where she steals the Goldeneye for Trevelyan, the scene in Monte Carlo where intel identifies her as a top Janus operative, the scene where she steals the helicopter for Trevelyan, the train scene where she's with Trevelyan and then escapes with him, and the fact she went with him to Cuba where, and I repeat, she is killed fighting with Bond, I think the evidence is inconclusive on that front. But I guess it's not as easy to categorise because they boned
I know someone who worked as extra on one of Brosnan`s Bond movies and said everyone thought he was a totla arsehole, really arrogant, when he was left out of the 2006 Bond and replaced by the younger Craig he wasn`t even notified by the producers of the Bond franchise because he was such a dick to work with.
I am big fan of James Bond. Between this two marvelous movies, my friends like more Goldeneye but I like bit more Tomorrow Never Dies. I not get tired to watch them from time to time.
i definitely see your points, but meh, i never liked goldeneye that much. i thought it was pretty decent and really memorable, but the bond girls were both boring (yes, i thought xenia was boring), the music was mediocre especially compared to the previous scores, 006 barely even appears in the movie (which is a shame, Sean Bean is great) and a lot of it feels like it's trying to be more over the top than interesting, with a lot of pointless moments. plus, the entire section after the train and before the antenna is so mediocre that it may have as well been cut out. Boris is great, though. Tomorrow Never Dies on the other hand i really like, a really fun movie with some absurd elements and some serious elements making for a plain good watch. great video!
To me goldeneye is my favorite bond movie of all time. While it’s not the “best” bond movie of all time, this is the best casted film in the franchise, with each of the actors maximizing their screen time and completely grabbing me. In terms of sheer enjoyment, goldeneye is the best.
Worth remembering just how good a Bond Brosnan was.
To be honest, he is my fav...mostly because he is the one Bond where I can actually believe that women would swoon over him.
Oh yea!
Imma be honest he’s my least favorite
Finally, someone who appreciates TND. Excellent observation about Elliot and Boris.
Thanks!
@@ClearCritique You made a mistake about Boris (Alan Cumming) being English .... the actor is in fact Scottish
@@ClearCritique also thank you for ending the video on the perfect moment, arguably the most bond moment in the whole franchise.
I agree re: Ouromov. Excellent performance and one of the most compelling side villains since.
Alec is more interesting behind the scenes. When he's on screen, he's a mere mustachioed villain in the top hat, but he knows James inside and out, and is able to outwit him at every turn. James is never in control until that final confrontation and even then, he gets lucky. He really was James' better.
Haha! You make a good point.
Agreed...
Great analysis
I think Goldeneye had a way better story, way better villains, way better action, and way better bond girls. Just can't be compared

GoldenEye is one of the most well put together Bond movies ever, a definate Classic that should be in the Upper Top 25% out of All 26 Bond movies.
006, Ouramov, Onnatop, Boris make a far better group of villains compared to TND’s .
Acting Chemistry between 007 & 006, Xenia & Bond, Natalya & Boris, Valentin Z & Bond beats TND’s.
Much more cohesively well done Bond movie as a whole than TND’s .
Brosnans #1 best Bond movie in general while TND’s is his 😅3rd or 4th best.
🌟GoldenEye Wins 🌟
over TND.
I'm a woman and James bond should always be a British guy
Vanessa Pucca Well that eliminates 4 Bonds Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery, George Lazenby, and Barry Nelson
the actor don't need to be english, but as long he feel english, if you know what i mean
Mav R Connery is from Scotland Thad in Britain . U mean English
@@JRMAV1 First of all Barry Nelson was in an awful American TV version of Casino Royale where he was supposed to be an American CIA agent. So we can't count him as a proper Bond, secondly, Sean Connery IS British. But you're right about the other two.
Mav R learn your geography you idiot.
Goldeneye > The World is Not Enough > Tomorrow Never Dies > Die Another Day
I actually really liked Natalya. She felt like she could go toe-to-toe with Bond, but in a different field. She felt useful and I understand how annoying she can feel, but I really liked her portrayal
I’m personally more of a TND guy
Same
Making a female Bond would be like making Mary Poppins a man for no reason.
Emma Blunt plays a cold eyed Poppins pretty well though, Julie Andrews was more campy like Roger Moore, lol!
Revolver Ocelot1988 Making Bond black would be like having Jackie Chan trying to play as Eazy-E in straight out of Compton.
Exactly. THANK YOU
Idk...the Venture Bros. pulled off a male Mary Poppins wonderfully
Goldeneye script was so well written imo
Goldeneye is INVINCIBLE!!!
I enjoyed Tomorrow Never Dies much more.
Goldeneye. All day every day.
Part of Bond's character is the sex appeal towards us, the female demographic. You know how the saying goes: _"Men want to be him, women want him"_
He's the coolest and sexiest British spy. That's what and who James Bond should always be.
I prefer Tomorrow Never Dies. It has a (much) better score, better action and a more interesting villain.
no
As much as I love Jonathan Pryce he plays a completely stereotypical Bond villain, with a generic messianical plan and zero panache.
My 2 favourite Bond movies, great video, man! Boris is the best xD
Btw, 100% agree with the rant.
Dude! I totally agree! Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies is my favorite of the Brosnan movies!
I miss Brosman, I wish so badly that he would have had his Bond version to have a conclusive ending in both his story and character arc.
Agreed. He's one of my favorite Bonds overall.
Fun fact: Xenia Onatopp, Wai Lin, and Paris Carver were all in Star Trek
I think Bond in Tomorrow never dies is the most handsome and best looking bond ever.He has the maturity which lacks in Golden eye.His fuller cut suits with less supressed waist and padded shoulders, the low rise trousers with no pleats nor cuffs but instead wearing a belt.A look many would not prefer but still looks absolutely amazing and timeless.
Pretty much every line of dialogue of Goldeneye is an outstandingly-Bondish and beautifully quotable, one-liner.
"This time Mr Bond the pleasure will be all mine"
"Yes! I am invisible!"
"Strangling a cat?"
"For England James. For England Alec"
"For England James? No.. for me"
"You'll BLOW de gaz tankszz!"
"It's clean. I had to ventilate someone"
"What are you going to appeal to, his humanity? Nope.. his wallet.. Well that might work"
"She always did enjoy a good squeeze"
Thanks!
Thanks for commenting! I intend to review the other two Brosnan Bond films soon, so I hope you enjoy that one as well.
Goldeneye fight was 10 years ahead of it time
•Goldeneye: Balanced take on Bond Blueprints = Great (my All time favourite)
•Tomorrow Never Dies: More Light hearted take on the Blueprints with a few good dark scenes =Good (kinda ahead of it's time )
•The World is not enough: Very mixed extreme vibes, dark OHMSS loveletter, Decent when it's Dark, Goofy when lighthearted, Boring Production design/music = Extremely Mediocre
•Die Another Day: first third starts interesting but the Hong kong and the Havana scenes partially lost me, The moment bond goes to "ice land" the movie turns into dogshit (except parts of the Car chase) = The Series had to REBOOT !!!! Thats how bad it was (Surfing Scene gives me PTSD to this day)
It's like you read my mind. I'm actually comparing the other two Brosnan films in March. You should check out the video when it's online.
It feels like two directors made two half’s of a movie and they just glued them together.
kasra khatir The surfing scene was not that bad. DAD also had the best pre-title.
Jay Stockton I think you guys are talking about two different surfing scenes. The one in the beginning was just fine, the kite surfing a cgi tsunami is one of the worst things ever recorded to film.

Thank you for this articulate critique
I loved Boris too. In fact, after that movie, I’ve been following Alex Cummins’ career ever since.
Goldeneye is by far my favourite Bond Movie.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you. Suggested video worked for once
Anybody else wants Eric Serra to come back and do a new score for a Bond movie?
Excellent breakdown. Subscribed
Thanks! Got a new Bond video up as well.
Was is the 80s inspired song in Your end credits called?
He bungee jumps off a dam ...... a freaking DAM!!!!! Best open EVER!
Jonathan Pryce was channelling Rupert Murdoch in TND
REC is one of the best movies ever made, not just in the horror category. Glad u mentioned it and you gained a sub for it! When I determine if people have good taste, that exact movie is something I ask for their opinions about (amongst other movies of course). Haha xD
I can see you have a video about Spectre vs. Quantum. If Quantum wins I'm definitely turning on the notification bell! Spectre is god awful in my opinion... Too many screenwriters, I guess? Don't know. But the intro for the movie was great though.
Ah the 90’s :)
GoldenEye isn't just better than Tomorrow Never Dies for my money it is the best James Bond movie ever. While most of the bonds took a movie or two to get in the right rhythm Pierce Brosnan nailed it right off the bat.
Goldeneye and the world is not enough are the two best Brosnan bond films. Goldeneye is still the best though 😉
You gotta be kidding, Tomorrow Never Dies' song is amazing
Goldeneye truly brought out the original literary brand of Bond; the guy that would seduce his way into finding out exactly what he needs to know, then wait for four days in the jungle behind a rifle to take down the mastermind of whatever plot he was sent to foil. It just happened to be a friend of his in this story, so he didn't have to wait.
It is a shame the rest of the Brosnan films unashamedly pooped directly on that idea. Don't even get me started on TWINE
When he called Electra, one of the most cold blood moves in bond imo.
love both of them. Childhood Bond films for me.
Couldn’t disagree more on your assessment of Natalya. She has personality, humor, independence, expertise and strength. The thing that stuck with me most tho, was her charming, don’t BS me self awareness that still maintains her humanity.
Very much a great partner imo.
100% agree. She's virtually the perfect Bond girl.
I respect any opinions on this subject but I honestly can't see how anyone thinks Daniel Craig was the best Bond.
Tomorrow Never Dies for me
Golden Eye is a great Bond film one of my favourites. My only criticism is for me a Bond film should always have a Q equipped car preferably an Aston Martin.
Does anyone have Steve Jobs’ reaction to Elliott Carver? It seems like a pretty brutal parody of him.
i still dont understand why they cast Judy Dench as M in Casino Royale since that movie is supposed to be some kind of " reboot " or " restart " .
Music: No contest David Arnold's
Score for TND, love old school classic, and whilst Eric Serra's score gets derided by most Bond fans, some of it is not bad.
I actually just did a video on the Dalton videos. You should check it out!
Love your videos, my dude 💪
Thanks, man. Your music worked perfectly in the video as always.
They don’t need to make a female 007, they have Dr. Swann to use for that role. She can be a different 00 agent alongside 007.
Die Hard Vs. Die Hard 3
The Tank chase massively disrespected in this video. Massively!
Great video! I love your critiques. Martin Campbell sure knows how to make a damn good Bond film with Goldeneye and Casino Royale. Tomorrow Never Dies was very much ahead of its time. Keep up the awesome videos!
Thanks! Hope you check out my comparison of the other two Brosnan Bond films in March.
Thank you! I just uploaded a new Bond video. Hope to hear your thoughts on that as well.
This video got you a subscription nicely done!
Pierce Brosnan was the 007 for 13 year old boys. One liners and poses.
I am not the biggest fan of Tomorrow Never Dies, but after watching this, I want to go back and see it. Great Video!
You call tank scene dull
Are you serious
When I watched it in theaters and when bond appear in that tank by breaking the wall everyone jumped from their seats.
You were right in your “female bond” rant and lol at Viki vibrator.
I believe Alan saw 'Boris' as more of a bond boy, rather than a main villain.
Tha fuck? Goldeneye's climax on the antenna was EPIC! And yep, Goldeneye wins!
Goldeneye, my favorite Bond film and Tomorrow Never Dies, a guilty pleasure of mine. Stamper was BADASS.
Brosnan’s definitely my favorite Bond !
When did Craig say this was his last one he never said this was his last one.
Anything to do wit goldeneye is. Thumbs up for me 😃
TND is my favorite Brosnan Bond film and to me is the best.
I agree.
Tomorrow Never Dies is in my opinion the best bond movie.
I love this comment!! We're few and far between, but good to know of more people who think TND is the best James Bond movie! :D
wtf
Absolutely has something beyond the other bond movies and it's more than the charcoal grey suit he wore
Absolutely! Of course it’s the best film - it would be my top one too.
"Is Xenia a bond girl or a villain?"
Well I guess there's a couple of things to consider.
LADIES ? COME ON ....
KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE !
Bond is literally a male power fantasy.
It's laughable to think that people want to cast a woman into that role.
