    I own a swift camper van and have had similar issues, the motorhome industry needs a good kick up the you know what! My issues are water leak, sink drain falling off, for the first 12 months I had repairs after every trip, warning lights on dash, cupboard door locks falling more than I can list here. Due to my dealer being 1 hour drive away I have carried out a lot of repairs my self, disgusting considering the cost of these things.

    • @thomsonsUKtrips

      Hi, Mr Cotto, sorry to hear of your issues. You're not wrong when you say the whole industry needs a good kick up the AR$E. I don't believe these snags are solely a Swift problem but standardised within the industry. It's almost like a long snagging list is normalised, accepted & half expected. Unbelievable eh when buying such a high value item.

    We rejected a motorhome years ago, not fit for purpose. ( We were a week away from the court case ) They gave us our money back. A very well known dealer.
    As for your leisure battery you would have no chance with that battery and solar to keep your fridge working.
    We full-time in a motorhome and would suggest 300 watts of solar a b to b charger and a 150 amps of lithium battery.
    Finally I would reject the van as unfit for purpose and get a full refund.

    • @thomsonsUKtrips
      @thomsonsUKtrips  3 месяца назад +1

      I do believe the 80ah lead-acid leisure battery combined with the 100w solar to be the bare minimum & not fit for purpose. Hopefully our snagging issues can be resolved within our 3 years warranty period.

    Total sympathy with you on this! What really worries me is the backdoor alignment issues and unnecessary use of silicone which may be covering up poor repair damage. I'd say you need an engineer and mainly legal advise. I hope you best of luck.

    Hi, firstly thank you for the 2 videos about your snagging list. We purchased our Swift 184 2Wks ago, and guess what we have a list of 10 things we found wrong with the van, and we haven’t even gone away in it yet 😩 one thing I spotted was the mirror in the wash room, it’s already coming unstuck at the bottom, might be worth checking yours? Most of our issues are minor things, but this shouldn’t happen when you’re paying £70,000 for a van. When it goes back to the dealer, I am making sure they check the insulation on the rear doors, that’s a joke after seeing yours, I’m sure it’s the same all round the vehicle. Swift don’t care about their customers, they just leave it for the dealers to get earache from the customer 👍 take care both, and wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🍻

    • @thomsonsUKtrips
      @thomsonsUKtrips  25 дней назад +1

      Hi Lee & thanks for tuning in. We still have 4 of our issues that will hopefully be resolved soon. I hope to have a 3rd update video at some point in the new year. I have heard reports of the washroom mirror becoming detatched. Thankfully, ours looks ok. Many of the comments we're about the insulation in the rear doors or rather the lack of it. Unfortunately, it's not just a Swift issue, I believe all these snagging issues are common place throughout the whole leisure vehicle industry. It is half expected to have a snagging list as long as your arm & it's almost normalised across the leisure industry. Motorhomes, campervans, caravans, and statics all appear to accumulate many snags. When you finally get away in your 184, I'm sure you'll love it as we love ours. Wishing you safe travels, Andrew & Tracey 🍻

      Hi Andy,
      We are away on our first trip away, we arrived on Christmas Day, on full service pitch, and guess what 😩 the shower tap is leaking Badly so we can’t use the water, because the pump won’t stop 🤬 lucky enough we are close to the shower/Toilet block, something else to add to our list, including cupboard door that needs replacing. Hope you and Tracey had a lovely Christmas 🍻 looking forward to your 3rd update in the New Year.
      Take care
      Lee&Lorraine

    • @thomsonsUKtrips
      @thomsonsUKtrips  6 дней назад

      Hi Lee, sorry to hear you're experiencing further issues. Is there anything obvious you could do regarding the tap ? Is there a connection maybe that you can tighten up to stop the leak ? I'm going to contact both Swift & the dealer in the new year to see if I can put an end to our snags. My biggest annoyance currently is our pathetic factory fitted leisure battery. When off-grid, it barely lasts 24 hours. We've had a great Christmas here at the châteaux 😁 Best wishes, Andrew & Tracey.

    My gut feeling is thst your campervan will spend more time in their garage than on your drive. Also the way the insulation in the backdoor has been just dropped into the cavity. Its just not doing anything. And if it's been fitted like that there, then whats the rest like. Money back job i think mate. 🙏Good luck

    We have a Swift Carrera 132 2024, and have a couple of the niggles, however the rest seems fine. Back door Button had been glued on, it falls off, Door handles stick, grommets on sink always falling out. Re the Power off grid, I worked out that the Solar panel was not powerful enough in the UK sun, 3 days max for us due to 4 Amp draw of fridge. We have 2 batteries, one under each seat in parallel. As we are off grid for a week or more, we ended buying a VTOMAN, 1500 in a sale, which provides about 3 recharges or we use the VTOMAN Solar Panels to recharge if over a couple of weeks. Our dealer did fix a few things prior to delivery though. Like you love the van and so much easier than the old caravan.

      @thomsonsUKtrips  3 месяца назад

      @daveasavage Thank you for your comment. Reference to the sink, if you buy those uprated grommets off eBay (item screenshot in video) then your grommet problem will be solved. Reference the leisure battery & solar panel, I believe they ain't fit for purpose having to run the compressor fridge. We also bought some back-up power as we purchesed an Ecoflow & solar panel, which, as you say, helps greatly.

    Sorry to hear your problems. Ive got a Autotrail v line 670s which looks like the same layout as yours. I picked it up in January, generally the vans been ok but silly little things like cutlery drawer opened when going round corners and some of the blinds needed re tensioning.Biggest problem though is when side door opens fully the lining inside door slightly brushes against side window causing the poly glass to scratch slightly.
    Its a pain having to go back to dealer especially when mine was 50 miles away in Wellington.

      I'm sure the majority of all new motorhomes have their snagging issues. I feel it's almost normalised in the leisure industry. It is good to hear you only have silly little things. Im sure your dealer will rectify your sliding door issue. Our dealer is only 26 miles away, but it can still be a bit of an inconvenience at times. Best wishes, Andrew.

      @ianbox13 I'm no expert on insulation, but yes, you're correct it is loose. I'm guessing this is the case as there is such a minimum looking amount of insulation in there. A quick Google search suggests these vans are "fully winterised" for "energy efficiency," achieving "Grade 3" to the highest industry standard. Well, it doesn't look like it to me 👀 Again, I'm no expert but 😵‍💫

To be honest, they may be able to resolve some of the issues to your satisfaction 🤷‍♂️ If it was me I would be saying ‘Not fit for purpose’ and demand either a new vehicle or my money back. • @martinph9052
      @martinph9052 2 месяца назад

      It surprises me that the dealer is not asking how you are going to use the van. With your fridge you will require about 60ah/day to run the whole van. With a gas fridge it is about 20ah/day therefore the battery will be just big enough for a few days off grid. You must have discharged your battery to its absolute limit. Working on 60ah/day or 720Wh/day, you need to decide how many days you are going to be off grid. Large power banks have around 2048Wh, there are higher capacity ones but this will fit between your seats. That will give you a couple of days for recharging the van. I have done this when I’ve been off grid for 5 days with solar panels to charge the power bank. Without solar you have to go a campsite to recharge the power bank, unless you get an option to charge it whilst you are driving. Ecoflow do an alternator charger. Rob and Lynn on tour use one. Another option is to get the 280ah battery that fits under the seat and fit a battery to battery charger. If you go this way get a battery with Bluetooth so that you can check how much power you have available. One advantage of using a power bank is you can keep it when you change the van plus if you need to use mains power somewhere it is available any time. I’m sure you will get your irritations fixed and get a van you will enjoy.
      Cheers
      Martin

At the time, the Carrera was a new model & we had to wait almost 12 months for delivery. Ours was one of the very first off the production line & I believe this is where many of our issues have originated from. Many comments have mentioned the insulation. As with all new vans, you get a Swift 3 year warranty, so I wouldn't let this honest & transparent video put you off. Seems standard for Swift . Our new Kontiki picked up end of Sept 2023 is still having snagging work done a year later . Shocking build quality . Sky view trim , like your trim not fitted . Waiting to have mine refitted . Hab door been waiting months for a replacement . Heating bust . Loads of other stuff . But worst , last week , automatic gearbox failed after 3500 miles . Fiat believe may be end of November for parts .

Wow, gearbox failure, what a nightmare. So far, nothing on the FIAT base vehicle has failed on ours, all our issues are to do with the Swift side of the build.

    It’s rubbish when you spend so much money on a camper and you finish up with so many faults. Our camper left the factory on the bump stops on the rear suspension. I’ve fitted air suspension which has sorted that and the van rattles a lot less. Surly the quality control should pick up on stuff before they send them out to the dealer.

    Hi, I have exactly the same van, a 2023 and I must say the quality of workmanship is poor,
    It all looks good but when you look closer it is not,
    Both our beds had the same issues and didn'tfit correctly,
    The gas setup was for discontinued bottles so I had to rearrange all the clamps etc,
    4 or 5 of our blinds keep falling down,
    The switches for the water tank valves were round the wrong way and when the engineer repaired it he left and then the tank valves stayed permanently open so we could hold no water in any tank, spoke to swift and they said we had to open up another claim !!!!
    The material on all the panels is separating from the panel around all the windows,
    Rear seat stitching is frayed on top,
    A panel above our heads when driving fell of hitting our heads and causing a gash to my partners leg,
    The chrome strip above the front seats has separated,
    I'm sure there is an issue with the solar and it's not charging properly,
    The edging on some wood is peeling at the door,
    They have already returned to put extra fixings in the upper cupboards,
    The shower leaks from the tap,
    The sink was broken when delivered,
    And we haven't even done a thousand miles yet 🤷🤦🤦
    I'm sure i have forgot some bits

      Wow, I feel your pain. Sounds like you have had every problem going. I had to move the gas bottle locating lugs to take a single Safefill bottle. Hopefully, you have a good dealer to fix all your issues under the 3 year Swift warranty. Best of luck.

    I am about to buy my first motorhome, my knowledge of them is little but l am a tradesman. I went to shows at Harrogate & Manchester and was appalled at the quality on display. I think they blow you away with an illusion of quality but looking closer metal is plastic, wood is plastic, leather is plastic etc etc Nothing gave me confidence in any interior furnishings for longevity and seeing as l am buying one for a 2 year tour then l am now leaning towards 20 year old Hymers!

    Faults like these really destroy the pleasure you get from the vehicle as you wait for the next problem. When I was working our company policy was to "do the right things right, first time" which was a great business strategy. Happy customers and no non earning time putting matters right. Hi Timothy, thank you for your comment. You are correct as these issues have somewhat tarnished the whole experience of buying a brand new motorhome. This vehicle is covered by Swifts 3 year warranty, so hopefully, all will work out well, but time is ticking & so far, in my experience, there is no urgency to resolve these issues. Waiting on parts (for months & months) excuses, delays, sub-standard repairs. How do these vehicles pass their PDI checks ? I'll take a look at the 'Amazing Liz' channel, cheers, Andrew.

Told me he wasn't going to keep it long as the build quality wasn't very good and definitely not a full timer's vehicle. It makes you wonder why franchised dealerships take on swift and elddis as the customer returns must be a headache. We all know that a customer pays for a P.D.I but it's the customer who actually does it. With such obvious issues from new I'd be asking the dealer that if I've paid for a P.D.I and there's obvious issues then was it not done ( fraud) or was it done incompetently. !!

    A day and a half sounds about right for an 80ah battery. I always reckon a fridge uses about 4 to 5 ah for 12 hours out of 24 that’s 72ah in 24 hours so your 80ah lead acid battery will be totally flat as normally you can only use about 50% or of the 80ah. 80ah is totally unsuitable for the job in hand.

About the fridge though, as far as I am aware the fridge, if it is a 3-way fridge, will run on gas or mains. The only time it will run on battery is when the vehicle engine is running. • @thomsonsUKtrips
      @thomsonsUKtrips  3 месяца назад

      Due to the chemistry of a Lead-Acid battery, I'm led to believe you can only use half of it's capacity & then it is out of charge, so our 80ah leisure battery is basically a 40ah. As you say, 80ah has to be the bare minimum the manufacturer could have used. I would say that on a brand new leisure vehicle, it is not fit for purpose.

    P.S the fridge will drain the leisure battery in no time. These factory/production line vans are not designed for off grid use. It's expected that most buyers will stay on sites and use E.H.U facilities. That's totally defeating the idea of a campervan. You will need a good solar panel set up with a lithium battery arrangement. ALL vans and motorhomes IMO should have diesel/electric combination for the heating and hot water with a simple gas bottle for cooking. i.e the new bailey endeavour. Stay away from underslung tanks ( elddis CV range etc ) as what dealers WONT tell a prospective buyer is that MFG fuel group are doing away with forecourt filling points in favour of much more profitable EV charging points. Do your research!!

    Sorry to see this but the mainstream companies just use very unskilled labour to throw them together and get them out the door.I noticed the so called insulation just thrown in the back door.I fit a bigger battery on a micro camper with far less to run.What is with all the silicon ?silicon is a sealant not an adhesive.

    • @thomsonsUKtrips
      @thomsonsUKtrips  3 месяца назад

      @DarranRound yes, quite a few people have commented on the insulation in the rear doors. On Swifts web site, they claim all their touring caravans, campervans, and motorhomes are fully winterised, designed for energy efficiency, achieving Grade 3, the highest industry standard for heating & insulation. Even on the sunnest summer day, the 80ah lead-acid leisure battery & 100w solar aren't up to the job of running the compressor fridge on it's own. I'd like to know myself why the rear gutter was filled with silicone. Many other Carrera owners on the Carrera owners' FB page claim their rear gutters also have silicone. Our silicone has now been removed by our dealership 👍

    I'm sorry but I was pmsl at the lack of insulation in that rear door panel, and I bet I wasn't the only one thinking WTF. But not only that, the money you have paid for that and the quality of the build is dog sht. That battery is never going to be man enough even if they put an 80ah lithium in it. The marks on the rear door hinges are only where they have had to adjust the doors after putting those crp plastic panels on with NO sound deadening and sod all insulation. If they put that little effort into that part of the build! I'd hate to see everything else. I bet that rattles and creeks like hell.

      That's quite a list, and makes us feel lucky that ours is not bad (we have the 144). Your cupboards not aligned and bed catches riveted in the wrong place are shockers , just shows there is minimum or no checks carried out prior to sale. Power is a problem, like you we have the one battery and one and half days off grid is about the same as what we get. Even with the fridge turned down to the lowest setting. The 2024 version has 2 batteries so they have obviously realised that one is completely inadequate. We talk about our power problems in a few vlogs time.

I feel the 80ah lead-acid leisure battery & 100w solar panel are not fit for purpose, I may well have to upgrade these, but I feel you shouldn't have to on such a new vehicle, best wishes, Andrew & Tracey.
