This has been my go to camera for the past several years. Coming from a Nikon dslr this tiny mirrorless camera with fantastic focus peaking has been a dream. It’s so good I have not had any interest in the newest cameras. It just does everything I need so well. What a absolutely bargain it is for someone coming into photography. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. This camera really lends itself well to vintage lens use. That tri axis lcd screen is a real dream to use too.

Good overview. My X-T2 got me back into photography as for anyone who's used old film SLRs its so natural to use. I shoot in full manual mode now mostly with the 16-55mm f2.8 which has an aperture ring and the shutter set to the T setting which gives you finer control over exposure instead of the full stops using the top dial and the front command dial is easier to use when you have the camera to your eye. Make sure you install the latest firmware. Fuji is very good at keeping firmware up to date with improvements to autofocus and adding new functionality such as slow motion and additional bracketing options. The XF18-55mm lens has silent autofocus and OIS built in. If you shoot in RAW you can apply the film simulations in ACR. I agree about the sharpness. It's fine for close up of flowers but I find for portraits, trees and landscapes you might want to dial it down a bit.

I’ve been having fun with the X-T1, along with the Zuiko lenses and the FujiXWeekly film simulations. And was thinking about adding the X-T2 for the additional FUJI X W film simulations and the Acros feature might be the best reason of all. Vintage lenses are great unlike today, but you obviously have to consider manual focus and minus image stabilization. That is what you had to work with back then, as we moderns are used to the camera doing all the work automatically. Not exactly infallible.

    Good afternoon, Nigel
Welcome aboard the Fuji X Fan club.
I've been a fan of Fuji right back to the film era, in my opinion there was no better films than the Fuji transparency films of the day. When digital came out I bought the 602z bridge camera, a truly great camera, only let down by the limitations of its media storage, Smart media had a maximum of 128Mb and the second card slot, Compact Flash, was a delicate system and very expensive. Nevertheless, I shot many weddings with it as a backup camera to my film Nikon as an insurance.
Once I saw the beauty of the new X-Series I was hooked, and my love of the rangefinder style meant that I could have a camera that performed as well as the DSLR style, but mirrorless.
I currently have the X-E1, the X-E2s, the X-E3, and the X-A5, and wouldn't part with any of them.
As you pointed out, there are subtle differences, between the sensors and the Image Processing Engines within these cameras, and each one has its own place in the photographers armoury.
Fuji is a great company, they support their users, even those with older gear, with firmware updates, both body and lens.
Glad you love them as I do, it's nice to see others feel the same way as you do.

Hi, thank you for the great video! It's lovely to here the joy it brings.
I am also thinking about getting the xt-2 (a bit torn if I should get the xt-1 because I am on a tight budget). I was wondering: You use in this video the 15-45 lens (I assume its the XC 15-45). How is your experience using it? I was thinking to buy the kit lens (18-55) because I heard that it was better. From what I heard (but I didnt find much information) it has better image quality and there might be some difficulties using it because it's made not for this Fuji series? What's your take on this?
Again, I'm on a lower budget and if its a great lense then I might be prefering it but right now my tendency is clearly to get the kit lens because it's a safe bet I suppose.

The viewfinder is fantastic on these, not sure if it's bigger than the sony but it's certainly more than adequate. Shutter count is a different matter - the usual shutter count websites don't seem to work for fuji shots! A couple of months ago I found a site that worked, only for it not to work when I came back a month or so later! It can't be difficult to count fuji shots, so I'm really not sure what's going on here!

Coming by UPS manana. For now, we'll see how much better the 16-50 kit lens behaves on it from my old charmer, the XM-1. It is IS, and it's very light weight should aid it's auto focus. I remember Fuji innovating Super 8, by using two axle cassette film cartridges, which gave you the function of rewinding and shooting multiple exposures, as many as you want. That was late 70's. Been a while. I'll be curious to see how much larger jpegs are on the T-2 than my XM-1. Although I really wish raw would shoot in a square format, I've learned how to match and convert to match the default color raw to my B&W square jpegs in contrast fairly quickly in Photoshop.

If you are just shooting landscapes and such there is no reason to "upgrade" to the xt3, or xt4, or xpro-3 from the 2 series since the tiny bump in resolution is not worth the expense. Perhaps the autofocus system for moving subjects may be better on the later models or some other bell or whistle may appeal to some. But frankly the xt2 and xpro2 are more than enough for almost anything. Personally, if they bring out a new XH2 with say 30mpix and a bunch of improvements I may be interested in that since I prefer a larger body like the size of the xpro series. You can shoot even the xpro1 series at 6400 IF you stick to black and white, it does a very nice job with that, but the 1 series was slow, to focus and not for moving subjects unless you trap focus. There was a time when 12 megapixels was a big deal, things have changed. You can lift shadows all day on the 2 series. People need to appreciate the incredible value in "older" equipment at such nice prices. People have GAS and are unappreciative of things.

I had a bad experience with Fuji. I bought the X-T3 new at the start of 2020 and found that I needed a battery grip to hold it properly which I duly purchased. Most annoying thing was that every time I picked the camera up there was a very slight movement between the grip and the camera body and yes I did tighten it as tight as possible but it was never as rock solid as the grips on my Nikon cameras. Secondly the switch that donates manual, single and continuous focus is were I hold the camera and I was always accidentally turning it to manual from continuous focus and losing shots. I thought the images in ambient low light were dreadful and it underexposed from default and I am not the only person that has said this. Battery life was appalling. But I could have lived with all these Idiosyncrasies but the one thing that I could not forgive was that this camera locked up on me 6 times and I had to sent it back to Fuji for repair under warranty as it was only 8 months old., in 40 years of shooting Nikons I have never had one fail on me. I really tried to like the X-T3 as I loved the film simulations especially the black and white but I lost all confidence in the camera and sold and bought the new Nikon Z 6ii which sits alongside my D500, D3s and F3 so I have more than enough "firepower" to take hopefully great images. Love your channel and look forward to some interesting take on old film cameras.

I’m sorry the Xt3 didn’t work out for you. I shoot. Shoot both Nikon and Fuji and own the Xt3, xt20, Nikon D500, F4 and the Nikon Z6. I agree with you totally about battery life, but I hadn’t had any problems with the grip and you can charge through the grip and it’s actually a better design than Nikon’s original Z6 grip or battery pack, but I absolutely love my Z6 and my d500 is going nowhere, it’s a beast.
My son just bought the new Z6II, based off of my Z6. Can you tell me what specially that you had to send it off for if you remember so that I can be on the look out for potential issues. I do know that you can’t use slow memory cards with it, especially for video and I stay pretty much with Sandisk 90-150mb and up and I have had no problems. I was going to buy a Fuji xt2, but I experienced lock ups just during the demo, so I never made the purchase, but I believe the dealer was using cheap cards and this issue is documented by Fuji and the web. Good luck to you and I also hope you go out and take some beautiful photos.

I’m sure XT-2 was the last one made in Japan. Then it got moved to China. Nikon for 40 years, well the old F and FM’s etc. Are bulletproof. As for the DSLR’s like all of them basically solid big plastic so it will be sturdier. Battery life is terrible on all mirrorless cameras. Nikon is slowly dying but their film SLR’s and ai era lenses are fantastic.

  • @techmaester

All well and good, but you should consider Sony a6500 for three reasons. Dedicated video record button. Pop up flash. Any lens when dust gets inside has lower occurrence of focus and bokeh errors compared to Fujifilm. Panasonic has excessive artifacts and weak red sensor sensitivity, making colors and RAW processing far from acceptable in pro workflow. Their lenses are cheap and mostly plastic, but at least the rubberized grip is comfortable. Panasonic has nice design and grip, but prone to deterioration over time. GH4 was a good performer and lasted six years, but the image quality just cannot compete with the sensors in Fujifilm, Canon, and Sony in their price range.
