    Take a picture of everything before you take it apart. Save the sleeves and other fittings to put back on your new thermocouple, you might get a perfect fit using the old fittings/spacers/sleeves etc. Take your time and think about everything you are doing. You got this.

    Thanks very much.
    It's 3:00am in February in Canada and my pilot went out & wouldn't stay lit when I let go the gas selection knob. (and the guy who last replaced the thermocouple had no idea what he was doing (got the ferrule backwards)).
    Thanks to you the house is warming up again.
    Cheers!

      I'd like to add
      I had to replace the furnace blower motor again last month.
      I had already replaced it last summer so was very disappointed that the new one died even though I got one with twice the horsepower.
      The original motor (by GE) was installed in 1966 and for the last 21 years it ran continuously winter and summer to circulate the air (to filter out the dust and pollen).
      Seems these new motors last only 5 months or less in continuous operation.
      Sad.
      No wonder new furnaces are expected to be replaced in 15 - 20 years.
      Feel better now I've vented.
      Thanks again.

    Dude!! You are the man!! I followed your lead and replaced the thermocouple in my mom's furnance. Her furnace was installed in 1967 by Sears. Yeah, it's that old!! Well, I had the same issue as you and it turned out to be the thermocouple!!! Man, because of your dope video, I was able to replace it with ease!! Needless to say, it fired right up as soon as I lit the pilot!!! Thank you sooooo much, man!! I will subscribe to your channel immediately!!😊

    I cheered when I heard that gas valve click on. I learned to keep spare parts for these old burners, they always go down in the middle of the night on a Sunday.

    WOW great video. I like you try to do everything myself first. Gotta save the money to support the family. My furnace shit out last night at 11 pm and after fiddling a bit thought it was the thermocouple. It was -20 c overnight and it was chilly night and morning. Your video was perfect. My house is warm and more importantly my wife is happy it only cost $11.38. CHEERS TO YOU!!!!!!!

    Came to the comments to see what that other piece is that you didn't use it for. I see it comes with White Rogers version of Thermocoupler too. Wondering if it should have been inserted after you assembled on from the top or something?

    • @cantire1234
      @cantire1234 3 года назад +2

      Looks like I found the answer, that part is used if it is a "snap in" style thermocouple vs. a screw in thermocouple

  • @spirit1217
    @spirit1217 2 года назад +2

    Dumb question but how did you get the thermocoupler out of the bracket. Mine looks exactly the same. I removed the bottom nut and the thermocoupler moves some but will not slide out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    • @djawtkazt
      @djawtkazt  2 года назад +1

      There might be some corrosion on it that's causing it to bind with the bracket. Given that it's already broken, I would risk it and use a pair of pliers to see if I can loosen it and muscle it out.

    how did YOU KNOW IT WAS THE THERMAL COUPLING?
    SINCE THE COUPLING GETS HOT TO RELEASE GAS, CAN YOU HAVE HELD A MATCH TO HEAT COUPLING, THEN SENDS THE SIGNAL TO RELEASE GAS AND PILOT?

    • @Powerstroke7307
      @Powerstroke7307 5 лет назад +1

      He didn’t know, he went with the most likely issue. The pilot sends rectified voltage to the gas valve through the thermocouple, if it’s not working correctly a match to it will not do anything.

    • @rocketrider1405
      @rocketrider1405 3 года назад +2

      Heat makes voltage between the two metals inside the thermocouple. This voltage tells the gas valve to open and sends gas to the pilot so it keeps lighted. Insufficient voltage from the thermocouple tells the gas valve to close and the pilot goes out and your appliance does not work.
