Take a picture of everything before you take it apart. Save the sleeves and other fittings to put back on your new thermocouple, you might get a perfect fit using the old fittings/spacers/sleeves etc. Take your time and think about everything you are doing. You got this.
Thanks very much. It's 3:00am in February in Canada and my pilot went out & wouldn't stay lit when I let go the gas selection knob. (and the guy who last replaced the thermocouple had no idea what he was doing (got the ferrule backwards)). Thanks to you the house is warming up again. Cheers!
I'd like to add I had to replace the furnace blower motor again last month. I had already replaced it last summer so was very disappointed that the new one died even though I got one with twice the horsepower. The original motor (by GE) was installed in 1966 and for the last 21 years it ran continuously winter and summer to circulate the air (to filter out the dust and pollen). Seems these new motors last only 5 months or less in continuous operation. Sad. No wonder new furnaces are expected to be replaced in 15 - 20 years. Feel better now I've vented. Thanks again.
Dude!! You are the man!! I followed your lead and replaced the thermocouple in my mom's furnance. Her furnace was installed in 1967 by Sears. Yeah, it's that old!! Well, I had the same issue as you and it turned out to be the thermocouple!!! Man, because of your dope video, I was able to replace it with ease!! Needless to say, it fired right up as soon as I lit the pilot!!! Thank you sooooo much, man!! I will subscribe to your channel immediately!!😊
I know you posted this a while ago, but it saved my butt today! Thermocouple replaced and furnace keeping us warm! THANK YOU! $15 and some of my time well spent. (time to call the professional and cancel their $100 appointment next Thursday...)
I cheered when I heard that gas valve click on. I learned to keep spare parts for these old burners, they always go down in the middle of the night on a Sunday.
I had the exact same issue yesterday and I followed your steps and fixed it! Thank you so much! A $250 job and I fixed it with a $14 Thermocouple from Home Depot.
WOW great video. I like you try to do everything myself first. Gotta save the money to support the family. My furnace shit out last night at 11 pm and after fiddling a bit thought it was the thermocouple. It was -20 c overnight and it was chilly night and morning. Your video was perfect. My house is warm and more importantly my wife is happy it only cost $11.38. CHEERS TO YOU!!!!!!!
Totlly loved this video Very informative and entertaining. I understood every emotion you went through. All your comments were EXACTLY what I say. I knew it was gonna work but was happy for you
Very cool, many thanks! Funny, though, 56 is cold??? That’s a cool August evening here in MN. Put a negative sign in front, then you’ve got cold, even here.
I very much do know how happy you are that it worked!! Im going to be very happy when I've fixed mine. This will be my first time as well and I don't want to wait for my boyfriend lol. Dude....you're awesome😁
Well done. I'm dreading doing my daughters in 2 days (can't get there before). Believe me I do understand how you felt as I will be the same if it works. Again thanks for information best regards from 🇬🇧.
I went to Home Depot and seen that one that u got and they told me it wasn’t the right one but mine kinda looked like yours also it was just one piece on my old one not the adapter part so I’m wondering if I could have used that same one also
I had the same problem with that retainer clip. Not sure how important it is. Also bought one that the connectors didn't look the same and went out and found one just like yours.
Had a ton of kitchens renovation I unfortunately didn't get to make videos on since I was so busy. I did take pictures so maybe I can do a slideshow while narrating the work done.
Came to the comments to see what that other piece is that you didn't use it for. I see it comes with White Rogers version of Thermocoupler too. Wondering if it should have been inserted after you assembled on from the top or something?
Dumb question but how did you get the thermocoupler out of the bracket. Mine looks exactly the same. I removed the bottom nut and the thermocoupler moves some but will not slide out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
There might be some corrosion on it that's causing it to bind with the bracket. Given that it's already broken, I would risk it and use a pair of pliers to see if I can loosen it and muscle it out.
how did YOU KNOW IT WAS THE THERMAL COUPLING? SINCE THE COUPLING GETS HOT TO RELEASE GAS, CAN YOU HAVE HELD A MATCH TO HEAT COUPLING, THEN SENDS THE SIGNAL TO RELEASE GAS AND PILOT?
He didn’t know, he went with the most likely issue. The pilot sends rectified voltage to the gas valve through the thermocouple, if it’s not working correctly a match to it will not do anything.
Heat makes voltage between the two metals inside the thermocouple. This voltage tells the gas valve to open and sends gas to the pilot so it keeps lighted. Insufficient voltage from the thermocouple tells the gas valve to close and the pilot goes out and your appliance does not work.
Take a picture of everything before you take it apart. Save the sleeves and other fittings to put back on your new thermocouple, you might get a perfect fit using the old fittings/spacers/sleeves etc. Take your time and think about everything you are doing. You got this.
The video is still helping people. Thank you.
Thanks very much.

Thank you for your video it helped tremendously, my heat went last night and I'm replacing the thermocoupling today...
Awesome! Hopefully everything works out. Thanks for watching.
great job on this replacement. it does take some nerves of steel the first time you do this.
Thanks. Anything combustible makes me nervous. Lol
I was nervous right along side you. Good job. Now, my turn to give it a try.
Go for it! Just take your time and just try not to force things. Hand tighten first and don't overtighten later. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Looks like I found the answer, that part is used if it is a "snap in" style thermocouple vs. a screw in thermocouple

Would have loved you showing how you got the old unit loose and off first before the rest on your instruction. Otherwise great
Basically the same process as the install, just reversed.
nice job
Did you replace it yet
nice one man! :D
Ha nice job man! We were rooting with you!
Thanks for video
I hope it helps you out.
I hope it works for me.
I hope so too. Good luck!
