I love this simple little quilt ♥
It was made with love and it shows in every stitch!
And it shows that you don't have to use fancy (read as expensive) fabrics or buy a special pattern. Keeping it simple wins every time! It's wonderful to hear your quilt stories and watch your face light up. Quilting is your (and ours) jam ♥

I've been hearing that the modern day mom's like neutrals for baby quilts now. You were ahead of the trend! Maybe Jenn's quilt started it :)

I've never been much of a trend-setter! 😂 But I have heard that too---they love the beige and gray and greige! (my girls call overly-neutral nursery decor and baby clothes, "sad baby!" LOL! Isn't that a hoot?!) It does generally look really classy though. 😍🤓

I love the quilt! I have a trouble addiction for rescuing quilt tops from thrift stores and 20:04 flea malls. There are 5 of the church women that get together once a week and quilt. We have been doing it for years. But when I put up a top that someone has hand pieced and has older fabrics, it just gets my heart and imagination going about the stories and history of it. I will even try to use vintage fabrics or even sheets. To me, I love the stories of the quilt, and you tell them so well. They are art, just with a different medium!!! You truly are the one channel I look forward to each week. Thank you for sharing such a special talent.❤

I love this quilt! Can’t wait to see baby boy’s quilt. The quilt I made for my grandson, who is now 6, had a tone on tone gray background. There were four sections of arrows with yellow, blue, teal, and gold. His name is spelled out in pieced blocks across the center, in a royal blue. The colors are a muted tone, so it isn’t very busy even though there are multiple colors. I think it would have been just as appropriate for a girl, maybe with the name in yellow or gold instead of blue.

As pigment mixing goes, different versions on grey come from mixing complementary colors on the color wheel together. So a
“pure” grey is black and white mix. Red/green, yellow/purple, blue/ orange mixes produce a more muddy specific grey. It’s fun to play with. Fabric dye colorations are very similar to paint. It sounds like something you might like to play with.

That beautiful baby quilt is quintessential Cathy. Is it scrappy? Yes, because it has multiple different gray fabrics but it’s also a very organized layout with specific colors in specific spots- no random placements for you because that would not be in your comfort zone at that time. Funny to see how much you have grown in your comfort levels and watching you change to a more “ modern” aesthetic with the colors and patterns and layout in the latest blue baby quilt you recently featured. , and also in your Kaffe fabric squares blocks.
I also made a gray scrappy quilt and collected gray fabrics, made the blocks, threw the blocks together randomly as is my usual style, and only after it was pieced together realized I had mixed all those twenty shades of gray together- and it was not a pretty or pleasing aesthetic. I wince every time I see that particular quilt, which is relegated to the car boot as a utilitarian quilt to wrap treasures from yard sales in or cover the wet ground if needed. The purple grays are with the silver grays, the green grays, the brown grays, the blue grays- it is a mess! But I’m grateful to that gray scrappy quilt for teaching me about color values and tints and tones and what works together and what doesn’t. And the end result is a useful and soft and loved quilt- even if it isn’t as perfect as it could be.
Can’t wait to see your quilt finished for baby boy!
Also, that yellow backing and binding is just dreamy and that quilting is divine!! Love love it!

Oh my! You made me see something from a different viewpoint today! I just wish Mom was here so I could tell her Thank You again. She made a basic white blanket that she embroidered for my 1st son. It had a baby sleeping under a mushroom with a cat & dog that kinda looked like their pets with flowers around them. Blue oval (embroidered) ribbon around the center with more flowers outside it. Son's name & birthdate in blue. I never thought of how that was a celebration of me becoming a parent/adult in her eyes. She passed unexpectedly 2 years ago & today is the 1st time I've cried in 18 months about it. Don't feel bad, I probably needed the kick in the behind to finish my grieving. I can be a stubborn mule at times & refuse to do what I need to do.Love your videos, especially the stories behind them.

Oh, Robin. We just never know what is going to tap into grief and release those tears, do we?! My mom has been gone nearly 31 years and I still sometimes find myself welling up (or in the middle of a good cry) about something that accessed a memory of her, or a different understanding of her from my adult perspective. Grief really is a slow process (much like quilting.) I'm glad this video brought fond memories of her to the surface for you!❤️

I love your videos and would like to know if you have a free arm or send them out. I want to make a quilt but after quilting alap quilt on my sewing machine I don’t think I want to try that with a larger one. maybe with shirts….if I ever find enough.

Mickey, I do send my quilts out to be longarm quilted---I don't really enjoy the quilting part, either!!
