Hi! Beth, I am 42 yrs old and have been "struggling" with my violin learning and playing for nearly 2 yrs. However, it is a struggle that I enjoy and I find your words in most of your videos very encouraging for the adult learner. Keep up the good work! I must compliment you regarding your fantastic ability to drive home a point Although, I have a professional teacher here in Kolkata but he is a very silent guys who demonstrates very well but speaks very less too. Hearing you on you tube clears my thinking about violin play. Thank you very much. Regards
I fell in love with her from the first video that I view. Her explanation, simple way of teaching, easy to understand and down to earth personality. I have learn so much just from viewing her videos. Thank you so very much for taking the time to explain and tech us this wonderful and helpful techniques. I have my daughter watch these videos and she has improved a lot. 5/5
I think you are referring to the technique of slurring notes together? First play hooked bows. Play the G (down), pause, play A (down), pause, play E (down). THen make the pauses shorter and shorter until you can glue the notes together.
Thank you so much! What you said use more of the bow suddenly bright me up,within one min I play much better than several days blind practice ! Really thank you!
@Gaara7177 Absolutely. Viola techniques is 95% the same as violin technique. More than violinists, violists have to rely on the use of a healthy amount of steady bow weight since the strings are thicker and require good sticky contact to make them vibrate well.
All accented bow strokes have varying degrees of attack on the note. We make those "sharp bites" by leaning in to the bow stick by a slight rotation of the upper arm. THe energy is then transferred through the index finger. When you real ease that pressure the bow sill scoot along at a higher speed. Tha'ts what makes the accent. I have other videos on all types of bow strokes at ViolinLab(dot)com.
Muy bueno, gracias por sus consejos, muy profesionales y técnicos, ayudan mucho a quienes somos sólo aficionados al violín y la simpatía de la profesora es maravillosa, de nuevo gracias.
You are such an angel to share this information with us. Thank you very much. You would be surprised how many people are unwilling to share their skills with a fellow musician. Thank you again.
i've learned alot from your lessons ! Sad Romance is one of my favorite peices to play C: i find myself wanting to stay in the middle , cause im lazy . Ecspecially when im just preacticing or doing some little show at a family get together . But , im wanting to push myself to srtive for that extra 1O% now !
Thank you so much, only been playing for about a year and when I actually force myself to use the whole bow, I actually sound good! Also for me, the frog to half of the length of the bow is what i have a habit of using. I feel the frog is easier to control and when I get to the tip i kinda wobble. Also I think the frog part makes it sound the most beautiful and deep. Thank you so much for these FREE lessons!
I have enjoyed watching your wonderful tutorials and learned so much, i'd just like to show my humble appreciation as well as gratitude and wish you happiness and joy every moment of your long lasting and healthy life :) Stay Beautiful :)
I am a seasoned, professional session Guitar player with 54 years experience.... Over the last 15 years have self taught myself to play Violin, to a good standard..which is .a difficult task for any adult. and i can honestly say, these tutorials have been an amazing resource and inspiration.... Thank you Beth.
I had trouble going back to playing after not playing for over 20 years. I studied up to the 9th position. but now I want to start again. you have brought back lessions I might have taken for granted. thank you for giving me the courage to do so.
i've been playing guitar forever and spontaneously bought a violin two days ago and u are the coolest woman on the planet in my eyes right now is all i have to say thanks for putting urself out there for guys like me cause u are really an amazing violinist and u articulate ur knowledge with such fluency its really a pleasure to learn from u and ur a beautiful woman as well which is just a bonus :) ur awesome thank u tonnes and i love u lol
my teacher tells me not to move the bow all the way and i suck but this ladyy helped me alot when i nwent back to school my teacher told me how i learn how to play it real good thnx young ladyy
Omg you got a like for your inclusion of the sad romance violin track. Did NOT expect that in this video. Hilarious. Your tutorials are fantastic btw and I really love your teaching style!
the ease of doing vibrato on guitar doesn't do anything for the violin its completely different but again u are an amazing teacher!! i am going to soak up as much as i can from u! i do have a question tho... i paid 200 dollars for my violin and im wondering if that was a mistake? if i would have known that i was instantly going to fall in love with the instrument i probably would have invested more lol either way its good enough for now as long as i can get this bow to stop bouncing!! grrrrr :)
Hey, thanks a lot for this video, you are an amazing teacher, I have a little question, do you recomend me to use tapes to mark notes, since I´m just beginning, it is very hard for me to find notes, so i get lost :) thank you
Any tips on how to play Vibrato? I have been wracking my brain trying to learn it but I don't know if the neck needs to be cleaned from putting the beginner sticker marks on it, and if so, I don't know what kind of product to clean it to the point of it being slick enough to do vibrato. I have heard so many things about vibrato but none of them are making sense to me.
Marcato on the violin is produced by an abrupt attack to the note, followed by a fast bow speed. THe ending of the note depends on the note value (length) and style of the piece. It can be lifted or stopped on the string.
Hello. Am i to assume that using more bow and playing the same notes and tune actually means that you must be bowing faster? Will you reach a limit to the speed acceptable and is it the bow speed and nothing else that is improving the quality of the sound? Jeff
Thank you so much for your videos!!! I have been playing for 13 months now (self-study via RUclips), and I find them very helpful!!! Thank you for the wonderful tutorials & I hope someday to play as beautifully as you do!!!! :)
how is going now? I used to have a tutor, but now I self-study and it is really hard to find my mistake on not only left hand but also right hand position
Profesora muchas felicidades, mejor consejo no podría haber,créame que realmente estoy aprendiendo mucho,su canal me ha ayudado en mi aprendizaje y es uno de los mejores que he encontrado. Por favor siga poniendo subtítulos en español. Gracias.
Marcato . How would I play those? I also play the baritone and I find it easier to play it one that but when I play it on my violin, I feel like it's not right. Also the accent with a line above, I'm not sure what's it called. I'm really not sure how to play it. It's like a lift with the bow and a heavy tone. Can you please reply? thank you
Could you give me the exact measurements of the height of your fingerboard with respect to the top where the violin bridge rests and the heights of the string G, D, A, E, I want to calibrate my violin and finally the height of the bridge of violin please I'm from Peru, there are no good luthiers here
I only realized using more bow depending on what piece I am playing and yes by playing meditation from Thais. The only problem I am facing now is my bow jumping towards the frog :(
Done violin for ten years now and this is still useful !

Try raising standing tall, raise your chest up to flatten the violin, then think of bowing "left" rather than "up".
Thanks....! I appreciate the insight....!
I am a beginner violin player and I learned a lot from your video...Thank you.
I'll do this tonight!

Marcato . How would I play those? I also play the baritone and I find it easier to play it one that but when I play it on my violin, I feel like it's not right.
