Thank you a million times for all your videos ! In few minutes of one of your video, we are able to correct a problem we have for months / years. If all violin teachers had your talent of analysing and explaining how playing the violin works, the world would be full of high class violonists !
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I have been struggling with this for months. My bow will slide all over the strings and end up screeching on the bridge like an out-of-control maniac. I was getting so frustrated until I tried your bi-fold door method and paying attention to my shoulder. It will take some time for it to become second nature but at least I know what I was doing wrong and how to correct it.
These training videos are timeless!! I can totally see (and feel) what I’ve been doing wrong and also explains deeper what my teacher was trying to explain to me. Thank you so much for clear instruction!!
Outstanding Tutorial, thank you very much for your effort! I'm really amazed, I had to wait for 10 years to find such an in depth explanation and precise demonstration of how to "move" the bow arm correctly and what "not to do" to let the bow move naturally/economically.
great detailed video. i watched someone elses that more suggested not moving the upper arm and locking it in place. immediately my shoulder muscle cramped. this feels much better
For those with longer arms, it is difficult both pulling all the way to the frog and not being able to fully extend to the tip. For the most part, it's something to live with, but you can give yourself a little more room by holding the violin out further to your left. Try adjusting the shoulder pad and perhaps positioning the chin rest (if it's a left-of-the-tailpiece mounted one) further to the left as well.
This was so helpful, thank you! I've been teaching myself for four months but after a week started to focus on my left hand, and my bow arm was swinging all over the place. Definitely going to practice this movement specifically tomorrow
I follow your videos for a while now. I was thinking about this all day long and it was heaven sent to stumble upon this video. Thank you for your time and effort. Every corner of the world is grateful.
Your teaching amazed me. Thank you. I have a variation of the second type of wrong bowing, from the shoulder (locked elbow). I've been aware and trying to solve it for years, leaning to the wall to try and feel the movement with no success. Your explanation really helped. I still struggle with coming back from down bow to V, at the end of the movement. I can't transition from down to up smoothly, specially at the tip. The movement breaks and I "run" (without noticing) to compensate for the lack of proper transition, so that the sound doesn't stop abruptly. Still need to figure this one out... again, thanks for your amazing class
Thank you very much! For a beginner like me, it's very difficult to learn the good technical movements and positions without losing the relaxation of the muscles (it seems that I had the same problem with piano and classical guitar).
This makes a lot more sense. I'm not a violinist but I am a beginner violist and the one thing I haven't been able to catch on to is keeping the bow straight. My teacher told me to stop using my upper arm but yet I knew that'd still make the bow crooked. Thanks so much!
Exelent teacher, I have learned so much from you madam. Do you have any material such as videos or books for sale? I am a disabble veteran with many injuries, but I am determined to learn, thank you very much for your teaching. You play very beutifull
Thank you for all your videos! There are so many ideas for comprehended work! Thank you so much and wish you luck, health and unquenchable inspiration!
IMPRESIONANTE LOS AÑOS DESDE QUE HIZO ESTOS VIDEOS Y ENCONTRAR ALGO TAN ESPECTACULAR EXPLICADO DE ESTA MANERA, REALMENTE ES ORO PURO PARA LOS VIOLINISTAS ESTE MATERIAL
Your teaching method is wonderful. I am an adult learner, just under a year, and I have a bounce near the frog. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
I love watching your videos, I don't have a violin myself because they're expensive. But I still like learning about the violin and how some people play. I get so jealous because I've been wanting a violin ever since I was 12, now I'm about to turn 16 in May and I still don't have a violin... But I'm still so interested in your videos ^.^ I know you've helped a lot of people improve their skills in playing :)
Hmmm... reading your advice, looks like I have no choice but to make room, thanks again. Also, really nice "About Us" video on your website. Really liked it a lot
So, if you're playing the right way, how long can you hold your arm up playing the violin before you get tired, just because you're holding your arm up there? When I "fiddle," I play to a cd recording, and by the end of the CD I'm exhausted from continual playing. How much discomfort am I observing when I watch the violinists play in an orchestra, because they play for a lot longer than I do!
@violinlab, do you have any videos to know which part of the fingertip should press down on the fingerboard? I have a a bit of a problem sometimes where I feel like some fingers come in at a different angle. sometimes the angle of the finger and the fingerboard is small, meaning that when I come in fast, my finger has to press down while coming in at a shallower angle; so I can't quite have the hammering effect.
The problem I have with the bow arm is that , for example , when I play D string I tend to play the A string too, so it makes the violin sound squeaky , and when I play the A string , i tend to also play the D string, probably my posture was wrong or my hand was squeezing . ;-; this is so frustrating
What I would recommend would be for you to focus on the level of your elbow. According to which string you are playing on, the level of your elbow should change. (Don't have your elbow higher than your wrist though! Only do this slightly to help you do an up-bow on a string.) The changing of the level of the elbow when changing strings should be a fluid motion. Don't jerk the elbow. Try to find a distinct level for each string. These are some tips my teachers have passed on to me throughout the years. Hope this helps :) feel free to ask more questions!
What is the advice you give for people with slightly longer arms. I feel my arms are a little too cramped, not able to stretch fully even during a full bow stroke?
Thank you a million times for all your videos ! In few minutes of one of your video, we are able to correct a problem we have for months / years. If all violin teachers had your talent of analysing and explaining how playing the violin works, the world would be full of high class violonists !
Wow, thank you so much! That's the feedback that inspires me to never ever stop doing this.
I love the folding closet door footage! That is classic.

Muchas gracias por traducir los videos al castellano. Son fantásticos!
Great info, thanks. Some things you become so unaware of until someone points it out for you :)
The bi-fold door analogy was a great idea!

Thank you! This helped a lot. I have been struggling to figure this out. Best explanation I have seen. Worked immediately.
i enjoy the amount of details you provide in you videos. I really appreciate it and its helping me a lot. Thank you so much

That was ingenious! Entertaining and useful visuals.

Oro puro, indeed !
The bi-door analogy makes a lot more sense. Thanks!
I definitely need work with my bow arm. My bow is always moving between the bridge and the finger board

Thank you so much for your help, I truly appreciate this and I will be implementing your teachings when I practice. Take care!
Very good instruction and demo.
Thank you very much!!! Your tutorials really help me ❤
