    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! One tip I learned this week is to form a square box with your upper arm, lower arm, bow, and violin. Rather than a triangle or parallelagram....

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin  2 года назад

      Yes, exactly. Once your bow moves to the tip the arm may be more of a triangle shape, but when it's in the middle, it should look more or less like a square.

    Great video. Number one factor in my experience is students not properly opening and closing at the elbow and not bending the wrist properly at the frog and the tip.

    Hey, a doubt please? Holding the violin at 180 degrees as you demonstrated-requires a constant "neck tilt" to the left. Will this eventually cause pain or problems?

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin  2 года назад +2

      Good question. If you are turning your head to put your chin on the chinrest, yes, it will definitely cause pain. However, ideally you should just put the side of your jaw on the chin rest. This allows you to keep your head straight and keep the violin stable without turning your head. You may not need to hold the violin completely at 180 degrees, you just don't want it in front of your body too much. Here are some of my other videos that talk about shoulder rest/chin rest positions. ruclips.net/video/5smspJ9c9ys/видео.html

    If I hold my violin more at 180 degrees to my body, I’m no where near able to reach the tip of my bow and stay straight. My arm is fully extended and to even come close would require almost all my fingers to come off the bow. What do you recommend?

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin  2 года назад

      Good question. I actually have pretty short arms and rarely go to the tip. I usually stop about 2 inches from the tip (even with the violin more in front of my body). If I want to go all the way to the tip, I have to twist my hand and remove all my fingers but the index and thumb. So, not going all the way to the tip isn't a bad thing. With that said, keeping your violin at 180 degrees to your body isn't a hard and fast rule. You can definitely swing it in more. I just find it's an easy fix to push it out 180 degrees when students are struggling with keeping the bow straight. Hope that helps!
