    Hi, I found this video is super helpful here!!! (already make the note and have my kid practice base on this for warming up.) I have a quite question, since her bowing is still not really stable, is that ok she practice just the first 3 tips. Since her arm wobble a lot when she try to do sloppy hands. ( She learns for a year so far and is 7 years old now). Thanks for all these tips. I will dig in more. I'm very grateful for these videos.

    "Keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed." Reminds me of something my Grandma said when I asked her why she thought so many people were getting divorced these days: "I think their expectations are too high."

    As you're vibrating fast, you switch to wrist vibrato. For me it is very very difficult to do that. I'd really appreciate a video on how to vibrate faster while doing an arm vibrato. I can already do arm vibrato, it's just not fast enough.. 🫠

    Thanks. I'm a beginner and my fat fingers just weren't going to let me put my 3rd finger next to the 2nd and still be in tune (3rd finger too sharp). I thought I'd have to resort to lifting the 2nd to place the 3rd. The tip about making sure my fingers are square created the extra space to let them both come down together and stay in tune.

    this video helped the most of the rest to be honest !! 🩷 but it still hurts to play and i have to hold up my shoulder or squeeze my neck. i've been playing for 7 seven years and i am not a slow learner, but i don't know what to do. i use the brand everest, the shoulder rest fits the violin, and the grippers are fully extended. yet i still have to look down to play, or have tension to play upright. do i have a long neck or something? i'm 5' 4" and really thin for my age, does that have something to do with it? i would ask a private teacher but i don't have one anymore for financial reasons, and i don't think my school orchestra teacher would have the best answers. any tips would be appreciated!!

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin 9 дней назад

      I'm also 5'4" and I never thought I had a tall neck because I've always thought of myself as being short! I used Everest for a long time but was never comfortable. I switched to a Wolf Forte Secondo because the feet can really extend and they're sturdy. I used it with the feet fully extended and I was finally comfortable. A few months later I switched to a taller chinrest so I could decrease the height on the shoulder rest feet so it' not so wobbly. Hope that helps! I guess the lesson is, short people can still have long necks!

    Hi, I hope this message finds you well. Quick question, I'm a beginner, I'm also a left-hander. I have always held my violin on my left side and my bow in my right hand. In your opinion, should it be the other way around? Reasons why I say this, I have pain in my left shoulder and left side of my neck, and I find it very tricky to hold the violin steady without it rolling forward and I'm convinced I'm holding the violin incorrectly. I use a shoulder stand to help, and my chin rest is now centred. Any advice, thanks.

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin 9 дней назад

      I would keep the violin on your left side. Pain in left shoulder and neck is common if your shoulder rest is not adjusted correctly for you. It's hard to diagnose without seeing what's going on, but try experimenting with a taller shoulder rest adjustment (maybe you're hunching your left shoulder to get the violin higher?) Also, the rolling motion may be fixed with putting a rubber band around the cushion of the shoulder rest (it gives traction). I actually just recorded a RUclips video about shoulder rest adjustment but it might be a few weeks before it's edited and ready for showtime. If you're subscribed you'll get a notification when it's ready! Hope that helps!

    The is the best explanation and demonstration of vibrato I have seen in a long time. Hey! I don’t usually comment on videos, but this has really inspired me to finally start learning the violin. I’ve been wanting to for a while, but after seeing an orchestral show at the Royal Albert Hall in London over the weekend, I was completely mesmerised by the violinists! I’m 24 and have always been a bit put off because people say I’m too old to learn, but I’ve decided to give it a go anyway. Do you have any recommendations for beginner violins? :)

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin 9 дней назад

      I'm so glad you're taking up the violin! You're really never too late. Some of my studio members started in their 80s and are loving it! Don't let other people tell you anything different. I do have a lot of thoughts on beginner violins because I see a lot of people purchasing VSOs (violin-shaped-objects) so I wrote an article on good violins that I'll link below. If you're in the UK these might not be options for you, but bottom line is find something that is a real violin, and you'll be much happier! Many violin shops or luthiers will have beginner-level violins so that's also a good place to look. Best of luck! meadowlarkviolin.com/violinblog/best-violins-for-beginners

    Lora, Thanks for the inspirational video. Maybe I won't quit trying to learn violin! I've been studying with an in-person teacher for about 1 1/2 years and am midway through Suzuki book 2, have hit a wall, and I've wondered if I should quit. I have three strikes against me - I started at age 75, I have relatively fat fingers, and I'm left - handed! The Suzuki book is now getting into staccato and I discovered yesterday that my left hand (and arm) are so much more adept at handling the bow than my right hand (and arm). I'm wondering whether I should stick with a normal violin or switch to a left handed instrument. What do you think? I don't know whether it's a plus or minus, but I've played piano since I was 16, and minored in music theory in college - so that certainly makes me comfortable reading music but contributes to the adult frustration and impatience that you talked about in the video. Looking forward to your reply. Thanks!

      I would stick with the normal left hand on the fingerboard, especially since you have already been playing for a while. I think both hands are doing equally difficult things!

    Hi Laura, I wanted to learn at a young age but we couldn’t afford it and there was no one around to teach it. I am now 50 years old and I got my violin for Christmas last year. There’s still no one here that knows how to play so I’m pretty much on my own. I’m glad I found your site. I’ve gained a lot of insight and encouragement from you so far. I’m not in a rush to learn. I have the rest of my life, to practice and if I only learned twinkle, twinkle little star, I’ll be happy with this, but I do hope to learn more. Thanks ❤

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin Месяц назад

      You can customize it depending on how much time you have. If you only have 30 minutes a day, you can still do all 8 steps, just spend a few minutes on each one. Once you get into a routine with the same type of exercises each day, you can accomplish a lot just in a few minutes. For instance, 10 minutes on warm-ups, scales, and etudes. 15 minutes on your solo piece. 5 minutes experimenting or playing songs you do well.

Thanks for your wondeeful course. I posted a fiddle tune from Summer Practice Chalkenge and a group of us are meeting near the “porch of Lake Erie “ this evening to play a few sun-themed tunes and. • @MeadowlarkViolin

      I would say the Ob1 is better than the Klaus Mueller Prelude. Fiddlershop's Tower String violins might be more comparable to the Klaus Mueller Prelude.

    • @MeadowlarkViolin
      @MeadowlarkViolin Месяц назад

      @@amykaur9694 I think the difference comes in the accessories. With the OB1 you get Fiddlerman strings (comparable to Dominants) and a carbon fiber bow which are worth it. By the time you add both of those upgrades to the Etude you're looking at a $450 violin outfit. At which point you could do a Fiddlerman Apprentice or Concert violin which I think is better than the Etude.
