    I do love modern WipeOut games but if they made a new one I wish they would go back to the slightly more industrial/grungey look of the first two games. As the games went on they became more and more clinically clean.

    It's 2024 and I'm only just discovering all the Wipeout games before the Omega Collection, including Pure and Pulse. Let me just say that I'm floored at the quality of the PSP titles. I can barely wrap my head around the fact that all this ran on a handheld from 2004. Including online features. I had no idea this was possible at the time. On a Steam Deck, even hooked up to a TV, both these games feel absolutely modern. Uncanny!

    proud PS Vita owner here, it's very cozy to have the entire series (minus Fusion, sadly) available in a portable console. having 2048 with the HD/Fury DLC is like having the Omega Collection on the go, which is amazing. if it wasn't for an odd glitch with the Wipeout 3 SE eboot (it crashes whenever Under The Influence comes in the rotation for some strange reason), then you basically have 80% of the Wipeout games working flawlessly on the console. I have a custom Pulse ISO with all the DLC included plus some returning tracks from Pure, and it works wonders (the A.I. is left intact unlike that horrid Pure ISO I had a while back). thanks for taking the time to talk about this excellent franchise.

    With the PS2 port of WipEout Pulse… the devs accidentally left a lot of development assets on the disc. A partial SDK even. Whoops!
    It was a huge help to modders though.
    2:15 Interesting notes about ship stats in Pulse: The ships actually become less grippy when you pitch your nose up, and on Easy difficulty, your shield strength is actually increased.
    6:09 Wolfgun is a great fit. (Helps that he’s my favorite musician.)

I played pure and have the imega collection for my ps5 but Ive never played pulse and let me tell you...at 34 this game makes me feel like a young teen again. I have that twinkle in my eye Ive been taking that psp with me to work every day, playing it on my break. Its so much and Im instantly addicted to it. My ps5 is gonna take back seat for a minute.

    Even having completed it already on PSP, I'm a big enough WipEout nut that I instantly bought the PS2 port as well. I suffered the memory card corruption and lost all my progress in any PS2 game that I cared about at the time...but that, somehow, *still* wasn't the worst thing that stuck with me about it: it was that the loading times were utterly abysmal. Multiple minutes of waiting before every single race - waaaay in excess of the loading times on PSP. All that aside, I still enjoyed my time with it, appreciated the extra texture detail and refined vehicle liveries, and got to sample all the DLC tracks that I hadn't stumped up for on the handheld.

    Great vid ! Love your entire wipeout series actually ! I don't know if you knew, as you didn't say anything about it in this video but Wipeout Pulse let you import custom skins into the game so you could sport whatever colours and designs you wanted from a computer. You could basically paint them pixel by pixel à la TrackMania. As a creative person... I think I wasted too many hours not playing the game instead of making skins that simply got lost to time. Good memories.

    I recently discovered that there is a native resolution patch that works well for Wipeout Pure and Pulse on Vita.
    So I am currently replaying Pulse that way and it looks incredible. We have the HD/Fury Collection on Vita but it has the handling of the Ps3 version and runs at 30FPS, so its really cool to have the PSP titles at native Vita res at 60 fps.

    Fun fact: you can collect the whole WipEout games collection simply on PS Vita.

  • @AH-kr8ro

    Just wanted to point out if you when you reach higher loyalty for a single team, it will do a global unlock on the PSP version.
    Alternate livery (one team) is at 4,000
    Eliminator livery (one team) is at 8,000
    Zone ship (one team) is at 16,000
    Concept ship (one team) is at 25,000
    You only need to reach 1/4 of Max loyalty to unlock everything for an single team.
    Once you hit 60K it unlocks Alternate for every team. 75K it unlocks Eliminator for all teams. 90K is zone for all teams. 100K is concept ship for all teams.
    So, you can focus on a single team at first and still unlock everything without needing to grind each team.

    Were there ever releases of the PS2 port that patched the memory card bug?

    I still remember seeing the PS2 version on a supermarket shelf and spending a good five minutes thinking if I should buy it. Thank goodness I didn't otherwise I would have gotten a nasty surprise as I genuinely never knew that memory card corruption issue existed.
    If I may offer a suggestion would you ever consider adding music track titles as they start in the video or in the video's description?

  • @bluesrike
    @bluesrike 8 месяцев назад

    I think the only complaint I have with the game is the Eliminator mode. For context: I played HD Fury before Pulse thanks to the "Welcome Back" program after that 2011 outage.
    HD Fury's Eliminator counted your score based on damage you inflict on opponents as well as eliminations. Pulse only counts the eliminations (which makes sense given the name of the mode but the point still remains). I always preferred HD Fury's take on the mode as you can take potshots at anyone who's in front of you and it would contribute to your score, unlike in Pulse where you have to focus all your attacks on a single ship to get anywhere.
    Oh, and Pulse Eliminator doesn't have the "Combat Spin" ability that allows you to shoot front-firing weapons (Rockets, Missiles, etc.) on anyone behind you.

    Played both Pulse and Pure extensively recently. I enjoy the physics of Pure more, but for everything else Pulse is better. I don't care much for your ship going to a complete stop every time a weapon hits you in Pure. It really ruins the pace of the races and just feels cheap when you race well and lose because you got chain-weapon cc'd back to 4th place on the last lap.
    Also personally I really enjoy the campaign structure in Pulse.

  • @lowscore1972
    @lowscore1972 Год назад +2

    I really don't like the grid system for the single player campaign. It's the worst addition they ever made to any WipEout game (and yes, that includes the closing and opening doors of Fusion). I cannot play the game as I want and it forces me to play various race modes I don't want to do, in order to progress to the next grid at later levels. This is especially true for WipEout Fury that had A LOT of new modes I absolutely HATED to play such as Detonator and Zone Battle. Other than that though, thumbs up for this psp release!

    ok I really don't like this one..
    it feels too much forgiving. it's so easy to complete the non-dlc tracks at the highest speed class
    the ost is wack :/ no original track (pure have like the intro + like 4 tracks and QUANTITY thx to the dlcs) it got one of the very best of analords and then just lame stuff
    icaras and even worse auricom are blocked behind non-free dlc while eg-r (or eg-x I dunno) just exist
    the art direction tend to be pretty generic compared to Pure
    the tracks don't have very interesting lay-out or don't have powerful imagery
    and the grid system is kinda bad because it forces you to play modes that aren't very realised (not just a pulse thing) I think of the weapon derby challenge and the "other" race against the clock challenge which is just the same thing so filler and Zone which is cool but it's more of extra thing if you like scoring. also, the grid system make it so slow to reach the highest speed class and myself don't really care for vector to flash imo those serve the purpose to make the player, if he's a begginner, to get a hand of the game before the actual challenge rise up and as I said this game specifically isn't very forgiving at all so yeah great...
    and it doesn't have have a sponsor nor the sheer quantity of content pure have thanks again to the dlcs

    I like the tree style progression in pulse but in my opinion, Pulse is the most inferior wipeout title. They no longer "feel" like hovercraft. They are locked to the track pretty hard. Hitting walls even a little bring you to a halt. Handling is too tight. I miss the loose and boaty controls of wipeout 3 or wipeout64. The soundtrack is great though.

  • @Coldwater-sw6me
    @Coldwater-sw6me Год назад

    Never got really warm with it despite playing it a lot. I definitely can see why people like this game as much as they do. It sometimes had the tendency to feel that you’re in direct contact to the ground and the soundtrack was lacking for me (I know that’s a very subjective opinion). Said that and purely seen from an quality standpoint I still would place it in the top 5 of best wipeout games, but it wouldn’t be a high spot.

    Again phenomenal video mate. I hope you make a video on wipeout 2048 for psvita and the amazing hd fury expansion, it was even crossplay with the PlayStation 3 version. But unfortunately it may be locked to those who purchased it back in the day to play natively but I’m sure emulation works. Keep up the great content!
