In America, car dependency is ridiculous. As a Kenyan in the US, that was one of the biggest culture shock because I was literally grounded before I bought a car. This is one part Nairobi and Kenya in general shines, there is matatus, bodas, cheap ubers, etc. Here in the US you actually feel weird walking down the road as you're likely to be the only one.
@@oness1334 true. I remember when I got here, I had to learn how to drive within 3 weeks since my college was 80 minutes drive away. I had to drive on a busy interstate 5 days a week as a new driver. That was the scariest thing but also what made me very resilient.

Hi,greatness great contect about Nairobi,am a Kenyan born in Nairobi and its true Nairobi is a good city if you have money the climate is good, keep doing a great job.
You are right buddy 😊. What a great & reasonable breakdown! You are truly Kenyan 😅. Enjoy your stay & remember to visit other parts of the country. This is a great & blessed country. Cheers man! Greetings from Nakuru City 🎉.
You're right about different areas costing more. I have nice two bedroom ensuite apartments with security, 20 minutes from Nairobi and I only charge $300.00 a month including utilities. Where I live in America, I pay 1,700 for a 2 bedroom apartment 20 minutes from the city center. My apartment here isn't nearly as beautiful as the ones I own in Kenya. If you're an expat, you'll have a great quality of life in Nairobi
I married a Kenyan woman and went furniture shopping there in Nairobi. I think it’s cheaper to get a furnished apartment since the things I like would require importing them…importing fees are ridiculous…at least shipping from the states.
Thank you for sharing this information it is beneficial. I am heading to Kenya this month to find a place before I make my permanent move in January. Do you know anyone that maybe renting a house, or individual compound at the $200-$300 price range? It seems to be nothing but highrise apartments to rent in Nairobi and Mombasa.
Hello, try Thika and Kenyatta Road (prioritize this one especially). Almost an hour from the City center. I know of someone who was offering his house (5 bedroom) for Ksh 35,000 (individual compound in a gated community). He relocated to Australia where his family is, but I don't think it is currently available. It brings a semi-urban vibe but with all amenities you find in the city. Yes, you will get an own-compound at that range.
Great video, very informative. Would remote working from home be doable in terms of internet speed? Thinking of relocating to Nairobi and working from home for a UK company. Also, for electricity, do the apartments you mentioned have generators in case of power outages? What about immigration? Can you maybe do another video on these topics please? Thanks
If I'm in africa, i prefer a furnished apartment or house. If I'm in the u.s., i don't mind the place being unfurnished, because i can go to one place, and find a wide variety of refrigerators, washers and dryers, living room and bedroom sets, etc and have it delivered and assembled for you. The african countries i went to, didn't have somewhere like that. You had to go here here, there there, to shop for each item..
bro $1500 a month is crazy almost 70% of families here live with $100 - $150 a month comfortably .....but i do understand you living a booujie asss life....good video though ....
..organic means no GMOs ....just natural foods as nature intended...and yes, the food there is 100% organic. Fertilizer and pesticides are quite expensive there, so most small farms do the most they can with as little of that as possible to keep the costs down and hence reducing foods grown with them
If you are Caribbean or West African ancestry (African American) Kenya is technically not your ancestral land though. Those lands are along Cameroon, Gabon, Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Liberia etc. Totally different peoples of the East, Nilotes, Cushites, and the Bantus here are not even natives themselves, but arrived in agricultural migration waves from the West.

In America, cheap unhealthy food is what rich people in Kenya can afford, leading to obesity. In Kenya, diabetes is a 'rich man's disease' because only the wealthy can access expensive processed foods, while the poor stick to cheaper, natural options.
Nairobi has a place for everyone. You are right though, Mombasa is more affordable. Seen good houses in Nyali going for a fraction of what you get in Nairobi. Interestingly, most Kenyans do not like the Coast. We only want to visit once in a while.
To foreigners like Americans when they compare what they are charged or their lifestyle In US compared to Nairobi living a classier lifestyle, Nairobi is not expensive. So it depends on where you come from and how you've been living. Everyone is different. If you ask a Kenyan then of course they will not say nairobi is cheap but then again if you talk to Kenyans who are well off and can afford it, they will say Kenya is cheaper than say South Africa or UK. That's how life works.
