- In this episode, Billy joins Sherri at the main desk as Chelsi is recovering from an illness and caring for a sick child. Sherri shares her goals for 2024, talks about unfinished projects she intends to complete this year, and hints at several sew-alongs she plans on joining/hosting in 2024. Billy relays all of the same information for Chelsi in her absence and also shares a few of his own goals for 2024.

I really like your idea of working on an unfinished project each month without the pressure of finishing it but working toward that goal.
Nice to see Billy filling in for his sister! Awesome to see mom and son hang out and talk with us. Sherri you can get in that 30min walking. My mom walks every day for at least an hour, and she is 83 years old. Chelsi you got that one hour away from your phone/emails in the morning girl, you can do it. I don't know why but, for me my phone or laptop is the last thing I deal with before I leave the house or before I start working on a project. I have to goals..my first one is to make a table runner and my 2nd one is to make a wall hanging.! Good luck to us all with our goals. 🤩

Yay, pleased to hear Billy hasn't forgotten about his projects. Billy, please don't say not getting projects done last year was a fail - life happens & disrupts plans.

Orphan blocks ... I have blocks from quilt-alongs I started and didn't like the fabric, or the pattern, or didn't keep up, or whatever, and never knew what to do with them. You just answered the question! Put them together in an orphan block quilt! Also, thank you for book recommendations. I think I remember that you are an English major, so I'm pretty sure a book recommendation from you will be worth reading. Thanks!

Great podcast, Sherri and Billy! Sherri, I like Ann Patchett’s writing also. I just finished The Dutch House and it was the second time I read it. It’s funny how if you wait awhile and read a book again that you enjoyed, you always find something in the writing that you missed. I, in turn, just ordered Tom Lake and can’t wait to read it. Thanks for sharing all of your goals. They gave me some ideas!
This was a very nice video with Billy on the video this time. Yes, we miss Chelsi but it was a nice change. Looking forward to new year of sewing/quilting with you. I like that you do the yearly goals and quarterly goals. I want to do the 3 Things list as I get lost in doing other things too often.
Hi Billy, good to see you in front of the camera. I enjoyed hearing what all of your goals are for the year. I just received my FQB if Strawberry Lemonade, so pretty. Wishing Chelsi a speedy recovery.
Sherry, one thing my daughter and I have been doing to get back to well written novels is read or audible classic books. One we recently did was Gone With the Wind. It was surprising how a book focused on a protagonist can actually draw you in.
Can’t wait to see what new coarse on organization in your Quilting University will be about.
Initially the visible sweets are one thing that I found easier to limit and now I rarely ever eat desserts, etc. However, eliminating factory food is the real test. I suggest starting small: jarred spaghetti sauce. Read the ingredient labels and be shocked. I find these changes are getting easier and easier to accomplish when I do it gradually, one thing at a time.
Love love love your podcasts!!!! Billy has a wonderful presence and voice. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and he would be fabulous as any character! Might think of pursuing new adventure!

My daughter wanted a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom quilt that used a panel of the book cover. The kit would have been close to $100 and out of stock. I found the panel on Etsy and I went from there! She loves the quilt and I saved $$
Feel better Chelshi & fam. So fun to see Billy at the table today! Started a separate planner this year for Quilting - I feel much less stressed having it all written down in one place. Can't wait for Strawberry Lemonade. Already have the pattern - Hearts at Home II. This will be my 1st log cabin quilt.

I have a book recommendation for Sherri… I know she loves Dickens, and I’m curious if she has read Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. I absolutely loved it, and it was so interesting how she updated the story of David Copperfield for modern times. It was also a wonderful listen on Audible.

Recommendation: could you show some of the smaller cozy earth products you own to show us to get perspective on color, texture and size please.

Thanks for the cozyearth link. Just jumped on. In Australia, the sale price for those jogger pants is $137AUD! Normally $305AUD! Like WOW! Even with a discount these are way too pricy for my family. They do look very comfortable, as do the other items. So if in the US, I'd say go for it.

Strawberry lemonade came into my quilt shop this week and I have so muchfun using the precuts that I bought yard cuts of most of the prints. I just truly love all of it and they work together sew beautifully!!

I just got a chance to watch the podcast. I loved it. So excited to see what is I stored for 2024. I just bought the Strawberry Lemonade Fat Quarter pack. Now I need to decide on what quilt design to make. Love your ideas. I love the flower quilt behind you. Is there a quilt template available?
My health goals is to join a gym, go at least 5 days a week and get my 10,000 steps during those 5 days. I need to also include some strength training while I am there. I am 70 years old, will be 71 in March. I had a major back surgery with 2 metal rods in my back and 4 vertebrae in lower back fused and I do not want to become weaker or more debilated, my goal is to get stronger and to be able to walk and regain my balance better.
Quilting goals are to quilt at least 5 days a week 3 hours a week minimum. I would like to make at least 12 finished quilts or more this year, hopefully this year.
Also thank you for sharing yourselves, knowledge, patterns and skills with all of us. I can’t get out much and it is so helpful to have you sharing what you do.
I am so happy you got the Swell panel. I love the swell fabric collection. I have a few fabrics saved. I have your original four-square pattern where you used the swell Christmas collection. It’s my all-time favorite.❤ You should show us your swell quilt sometime.
I wish Moda (?) would offer the box kit again for that project.

Love today's podcast! I got hit with "the bug" right after the new year and now I feel behind on my 2024 goals. I am plan to work harder this year to use my time wisely. Now that I am retired the hardest thing for me is that I can easily procrastinate b/c I can just do it tomorrow 😄. Chelsi I hope you and your family recover quickly. Maybe try Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. I really liked that book and it stuck with me. I love that you are talking about cutting sugar. It’s so bad. It’s nice to hear quilting people talking about it vs more recipes. Have to say you were talking about Swell Panel by Urban Chicks and you reminded me that I was going to get that. I remember I fell in love with it when Kimberly Jolly did it and have been meaning to get it. I stopped the video, found it online and purchased it. Yeah! Can’t wait! Thank you for all your shows. I've not much time to sew with two little children, but want to work on WIPs and a few new quilts in smaller versions to improve my sewing and machine quilting. The one change that boosted my ability to read more, is audiobooks. I read when I’m moving - cleaning, driving, cooking and sometimes sewing.
Really enjoyed hearing about your goals and would love to hear more about your work out. Strength training is missing from mine. I also walk but feel I need more. Great seeing Billy in a new role… He has learned so much🎉

I'm not sure where you can leave a listener question so I guess I will try here. Do you ever get back pain from sewing so much? I have an old back injury that flares up when I sew or play the piano, or do a lot of house work. I have so many sewing projects that I could have finished by now if I could work longer. Do you ever get back pain from sewing for a long period of time and if so, what do you do to relieve it?

Sherri; Definitely like your #1 goal. I have a PILE of finished tops, and need to find a Long Armer to get some actual finishes. I wish I had space for a longarm myself, but alas I live in a tiny space. One per quarter is definitely a good goal for my budget I think. Thanks!!
Also, Chelsi’s goal of doing some form of art is a GREAT goal. I just purchased a set of alcohol markers for MY super talented daughter, and it’s just so fun learning a new method. We have discussed making space at some point for some pottery fun. She loves to use a wheel and has so many ideas.

If you like historical novels, The Memory Keeper of Kyiv by Erin Littiken is an awesome book! It is set between Ukraine 1930's and Illinois 2004 and us the story of a grandmother and granddaughter.
