Mario Sunshine felt way more ambitious than Galaxy in my opinion. Isle Delphino felt like a real world that people actually lived in, not just a bunch of obstacle courses for Mario in space. I also think they could have just improved the voice acting for future titles instead of just giving up and removing it completely.
I feel like everyone is too harsh on Sunshine. Honestly I love the voice acting in it! It's a Mario game, the goofy voice acting fits it like a glove, and it makes the characters way more memorable! The lawyer, or whatever that guy was at the beginning of the game who said "as you are in no doubt aware..." is more memorable than all of the koopalings combined to me. And then FLUDD! I honestly love FLUDD! She (FLUDD has a female voice actor) makes the game feel unique compared to all the other games, and she feels like a genuine partner throughout the journey. When Mario gets wrongfully arrested, she actually comforts Mario, and it seems genuine! And then the music! It's some of the most memorable in the entire series! I will never forget Delphino Plazza, Rico Harbor or the special stage music!
"eVeRyoNe Is ToO hArD oN SuNShInE" Man, stfu. Everyone is appropriately hard on Sunshine. It's regarded as the worst 3D Mario game for a reason. Its no where near as inventive or creative as 64, Galaxy or Odyssey. It only has 6 stages, ( 7 if you include Corona Mountain ) so it relies on Blue Coins to pad out the Shine count to match Mario 64. Making the game have not only more filler but also overall less content. The game is limited to the beach/island motif so there's no level variety. Shines like the pachinco machine and the lillie pad poison river are some of the worst designed areas in a 3D game ever, not just in a Mario game. This whole "Mario Sunshine defence force" shit is getting old. It's not a good game
BlueWord tastes are subjective, chill lmao. Personally, Sunshine is my favorite of the bunch and I’ll openly admit that it’s largely due to me being a nostalgia junkie. However, I believe there are plenty of things that are objectively good about it. It’s the most open world and explorative entry, having plenty of secrets and objectives in isle delfino alone. It also has a plethora of characters and motifs that have since become staples in the series (Bowser Jr, piantas, shine sprites). It’s also warm and colorful and inviting, and each area feels inhabited and lived in and real, unlike in Galaxy or 64. Sure it falls short in many ways, looking at it as a classic Mario game, but it’s important to keep in mind that it’s unconventional on purpose, and appeals differently than the other games
@@wyattkocol5796 "It's unconventional on purpose" isn't a valid excuse for poor game design. Lmao "It appeals differently than the other games" Yeah? It appeals to people that prefer a warm tropical setting over an actually good, well made game? Great argument pal Calling Pinatas and Shines a staple of the Mario series is a fucking STRETCH. They're rarely used today at all with very little exception. "The levels in Sunshine feel more lived in" I'm sorry, but tell me do you play Mario games for hyper realism? Because if so there are several games I can point you in the direction of if that's your thing. Mario is not about realism, and never should be. Sunshine's levels feel more lived in than Galaxy or 64's sure, but at the cost of the design of them as platforming stages. 64 and Galaxy aren't restricted by the rules of realism and allow the levels to go as wild and as creative as they need to. Claiming that Sunshine's levels are better because they are more realistic or lived would be a fair enough argument if it weren't a fucking MARIO game. Look, y'all can like your bad Mario game. I DON'T CARE. There are plenty of bad games, movies and anime that I like. There's nothing wrong with enjoying bad media, I know I do. But don't sit there and go "Oh it's unfairly judged" If enough people come to the same consensus about something then there's probably some underlying truth behind it. Whining and crying about how it's unfair is just childish.
BlueWord I didn’t say anything about it being better than the other games, and I’m not complaining that it’s unfairly judged. I’m just saying what I like about it and what I think it does well. Mario doesn’t revolve around realism, as you said, but it has branched off of the formula before and I think it’s fine. Breath of the Wild for example isn’t a typical Zelda game at all, but it’s quickly become a fan favorite. Sunshine is a fan favorite too. Maybe not piantas and shine sprites, but Petey Piranha? Gooper Blooper even? All I’m saying is that it is an enjoyable game comparisons aside. No need to act like I’m talking out of my ass
Glad you told me, I was gonna buy it. Saved me some couple quid. Look i’m not saying people aren’t gonna enjoy this but I had it and for me everything (especially the camera angles) was so outdated I couldn’t enjoy it. Mario galaxy 2 was on wiiU so hopefully if they port that without doing anything to it, it will seem like its made for the switch. Or maybe Mario oddesey 2 - that game was quality!
Mikeyboy yeah that was my point. Instead of just rereleasing they should have done us a solid and put some more effort in to make it a remaster. A few tweaks at least to make it on par with the current generation at least
This game was never gonna be a 10/10. I’ve been a Nintendo fan for the last 20 years and have played all 3 of these titles and enjoyed my time with all of them (on a 1st playthrough), but I wasn’t giving Nintendo a dime for this collection. Besides aspect ratio and upscale graphics, nothing new was added to this game. Mario 64 is still the same Mario 64. It’s still clunky and awkward to play (I played the Wii U version last year), and anyone who thinks the gameplay still holds up to this day is blinded by nostalgia. In 2020 they’re still going with a fixed camera which can be moved ever so slightly. Not even the option to change the control scheme for younger audiences or casual gamers. Sunshine and Galaxy looks good, but they aren’t faithful remakes or remasters, nothing new content wise is added besides a few tweaks to some controls in Sunshine. It’s not like these are built from the ground up. These are nothing more than ports. Expecting these games too be near perfect is quite obnoxious, considering these games were not perfect, they all had some annoyance about them and it’s clear nothing has changed. If people want to support these cash grab ports from Nintendo, by all means go ahead, but please don’t whinge and cry when this game doesn’t get the love it apparently deserves. These are the same games from decades ago. Don’t expect anything else.
I don’t think anyone was expecting anything more than a port. Unless of course you think Nintendo shits out rainbows. I’m getting this because I havn’t played 64 or Sunshine, and want another shot at Galaxy. The best thing I’m getting out of this is that I can play them on the go, and thats all I wanted. Don’t really mind if they aren’t remasters or remakes because of that.
This game would've been over $100 if they were all from-the-ground-up remakes. Actually, they'd probably be $60 EACH. If you dont like it, don't buy it.
Dark Link 64 If you read my opinion I said I won’t be buying it and I also said if people wanna support these cash grab ports then go right ahead. We make our own decisions and I will be putting the $60 towards a better investment in the BoTW prequel in November. The funny thing is I would’ve actually supported the game if they wanted to remake them. At least that would’ve shown initiative and change, but they decided to go a cheap port to generate income because most of their 2020 calendar is getting pushed back to 2021.
Despite Mario Galaxy being my favourite Mario game of all time, I cannot buy this game. If people wanna support these cash grabs, then support this toxic model Nintendo are forking out. Next year it will be the same with Zelda. They'll port over OoT, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, all those 3 games will be the same as they originally were. I can understand players who haven't experienced a specific Mario title in this collection, or game collectors wanting to buy this, but for people who have played these before this just seems like a waste of money. No doubt people will buy these games, but it's a cash grab.
Cr N yeah I agree with that, it’s only 3 games so it doesn’t make sense that it’s 60 bucks but I still preordered mine so I’m not all so sad/mad about it. It’s from a business standpoint.
I still don't understand why they didn't try porting DS version of Mario 64. While the gameplay was altered heavily for that game, they could have taken the upgraded textures and visuals and had a mode for the 64 style and DS controls.
I couldn't buy a switch so I moved on until Nintendo decided to bring back Super Mario Galaxy and now my mind cant stop thinking about. PS I am really looking forward to play 64 and sunshine as I heard everybody loved these games
I still think about mario 64 till this day I remmeber when it first came out, I'm still waiting for them to remake it, it was such a fun game and great design I play it an hour couple years ago and still was amazed
I know right? People are talking about how "the original all stars were remasters while these are just ports" doesn't make sense to me because back then all that really needed to be remade was a few sprites. But for a 3d all stars you would need to make every single little asset, which would be way too expensive and time consuming. Just having all these games on switch is amazing enough.
Two problems: 1. It doesn't deserve a full 60 US dollar price tag. Compare it to other re-releases like the Crash N. Sane Trilogy, and Spyro Re-Ignited, which featured completely re-built games from top to bottom, were sold for only 40 US dollars each. Mario 3D All-Stars features games that are decades old, with little to no improvements or changes. At best, this collection should had been 30 US dollars. 2. It's a limited release. WHY? What purpose do they have that they are making this a limited release both physically, AND virtually?
they put zero effort into this collection and are charging $60 for it. It was so rushed they couldn't even add galaxy 2 like what? Its pretty embarrassing when you look at other collections. Hell, look at Pro Skater 1+2 those games got a full ground up remake and charged $40. Nintendo's pricing is a joke.
I agree with lenodotendo. The controls tend to get better as you go from old to new, so that if you go chronologically, it's as if it keeps getting better and better.
Agree should have updated them for modern controls at the very least. I’ve played 64 and Sunshine via Emulation and they aren’t that pleasant to be honest. Was looking forward to being able to play them using modern methods.
From what I've been reading, they inverted the camera horizontally in 64 and Sunshine. Push the camera stick left now means turn left. Why it wasn't always like this is beyond me. I have a hard time playing the originals now, pushing one way to turn the other.
I really wish they would have done an actual remaster with all the games being playable in 16:9 1080p. After seeing how good the Crash and Spyro remakes looked Nintendo has no excuse to not remaster the games in All Stars, especially since it’s a celebration rather than a simple re-release.
My order just got shipped! It will arrive maybe on Monday or tuesday! I’m sooo excited hope all of you have a fun time playing the of the best Mario games😁
For Sunshine, the gamecube controller does in fact work. Just not the switch version of the gamecube controller. I used an original gamecube controller connected to the wii u adapter and it worked just fine.
such a lazy port of these games. it's more of a cash-grabber than a celebration of mario, really. nintendo knows people will get it asap, though. why would they make the effort to do better? they don't need to.
I partially agree because of my specific instance though. I’ve never played 64 or sunshine and I got rid of my galaxy copy years ago for some reason, so I’m super excited for this and don’t see a problem with it
RSK that and people that don’t want to bust out old systems. They are in HD, the collection is only $60 total, this is just an instance where people will complain about anything.
@@LloydChristmas08 Stop it, fanboi. It's emulation-ports-and not native. And they couldn't even include Galaxy 2? Hell, they even included The Lost Levels on the original All-Stars. Nintendo is milking fanbois because you'll buy it no questions asked.
I really wished that they fixed the Camera in 64 and Galaxy. They did it right in Sunshine by allowing you to manually turn the camera in the direction Mario is facing. I found the camera in Galaxy to be even WORSE than 64 when times showed up where it didn't allow you to move the camera at all.
I would like to point out that apparently the base version used for SM64 is the first official western release of the Shindou version, which explains the change in voice line during the bowser fights and featured patches that broke common speedrunning techniques like the infamous BLJ
I haven’t ever really thought of this because I first experienced Mario 64 second hand, as a younger brother watching the game, before I ever got to play, but would I have found shifting sand land on my own? It is among the most unique levels in the game and really seems like it was designed to be found after you had left the basement....or maybe even found by accident trying to dive for Mipps.
You almost definitely would’ve found it trying to catch Mipps unless you were really good at that right off the bad. I played this game when I was 8 or 9 and even though it’s not that hard, it sure seemed that way to grade-schooler me.
It was a really fun game, I loved it. I never understood, learning years later, that it was apparent divisive? Like, compared to 64, why? You move better, the maps are more interesting and even more explorable, and FLUDD only adds to his acrobatic abilities. Some challenges did have weird difficulty spikes, but that s the difference between a game that is more open (Sunshine) and one more focused (Galaxy)
I have a copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars for my Nintendo Switch Lite, and out of all these three games in this compilation, the one particular game that I’ve spent the most time playing was Super Mario Galaxy. I’ve recently collected all 121 Stars as both Mario and Luigi, which makes a total of 242 Stars. I still have a copy of the original Wii version of Super Mario Galaxy. I also have a copy of the original GameCube version of Sunshine. Speaking of both Wii and GameCube, I still have the original Wii model that is backwards compatible with most GameCube games.
Mario is one of my favorite game characters. I love him. But 3d gameplay really took the games to the next level. I like that a lot. Im planning on getting this game for Christmas
I ain’t gonna buy it, if you can easily emulate it or purchase it from the switch why invest in it?, it’s just 3 games slap into 1 with the same graphics with tweaks and polish, like why can’t they do the same thing what Crash bandicoot done rebooted the whole graphics? change 64 and sunshine to resemble Galaxy but yet didn’t feel like doing it smh, they could’ve added galaxy 2 too in it now that bundle would’ve been incredible, smh if this is meant to be a big deal then make it a BIG DEAL pure laziness and a very big miss opportunity
those 3 crash games are very similar to each other. so much that when they made the remakes, they used the same engine for all 3 games. i don't think it would be easy, if even possible, for these 3 games
Squintis didn’t say 3 games I said two, it maybe difficult to do but is not impossible, besides they had a whole decade to better up the last anniversary bundle
nxthgbutGEMZ your comment said 3 though? And yeah dude it’ll be way too difficult for them to emulate it in a more realistic engine. But people just want the game for just one of two reasons. First reason they just wanna revisit three of these great games again or two people haven’t beaten these games yet so they want to do so.
nxthgbutGEMZ but I 100% agree with your opinion it should be new and different especially if it’s an limited time release why not just make it better which is why I agree with your opinion but I just had to play devil’s advocate for a bit.
Seriously, I never understood why people disliked Sunshine. While, yes, arguably the difficulty spikes for various reasons, but it was such a fun game.
I think it's too bad Nintendo didn't make a release like this a bit more of a celebration for the fans with some extra effort. Especially for the price and seeing Mario is their most important character.
I love it. My minor gripes are I wished M64, would have been 1080P, widescreen, remade, as Mario should have fingers in 2020, and there are some shimmering and jaggies in there. Other than that, I am fine with this collection.
People fail to realize that this is a *collection* and not a rerelease or a complete remaster. These games will still have the same flaws they've had since they came out
@Josh Pobje Well they have the resources to amend that.. right? I mean, if they are not emulating the software on the system... I am sure they can get it to work. Even Super Mario Sunshine was originally developed to run at 60fps. EDIT: I just saw the DF deep dive. Emulation... confirmed for all titles
@@lucastekkan pc modders got hold of the source code, they had complete control over the game. This collection is a lazy emulation of the games and they can't really bump anything up without causing issues.

Lmao
"It appeals differently than the other games" Yeah? It appeals to people that prefer a warm tropical setting over an actually good, well made game? Great argument pal
Calling Pinatas and Shines a staple of the Mario series is a fucking STRETCH.
BlueWood I hate to admit it, but you're making a lot of sense rn
The fact that all these games are over a decade old is insane to me. Time goes by so fast, heck even Odyssey is like 3 years old now I think
Sunshine is as meticulously crafted as all the others
Nintendo need to take a leaf out of crash bandicoots n-sane trilogy. That’s how you rerelease
Spyro sucked and can not be compared to this
Glad you told me, I was gonna buy it.
This is a collection, not a remaster. You can't compare 3d all stars to n sane trilogy in the same category of releasing.
Mikeyboy yeah that was my point. Instead of just rereleasing they should have done us a solid and put some more effort in to make it a remaster. A few tweaks at least to make it on par with the current generation at least
The original Mario All stars was a remaster of all the 2D marios. I can see why people are angry that these aren’t remastered 🤷♂️
Really wish they got the improved look of the DS version of Super Mario 64 instead.
Where did Nintendo touch you?
🤷♂️
I think the people that hate Super Mario Sunshine mainly just don’t want to admit that they sucked at the game.
That's most people that hate platformers.
I see ur issue but I NEED these games and if they port over the zelda its the same situation
Same MasterStar. Especially if you haven’t beaten the three games yet or you just wanna revisit them.
$60 is way too expensive for a port of older games. $30 would have made more sense. 10 each for games they had already made so much money from.
Cr N yeah I agree with that, it’s only 3 games so it doesn’t make sense that it’s 60 bucks but I still preordered mine so I’m not all so sad/mad about it. It’s from a business standpoint.
@@crn8393 Nintendo doesn’t care when it come to prices if they could drop a port of the original Mario game for 60$ they’d do it without hesitation
5:52 was very painful to watch
Ooooo...
Why?
I still don't understand why they didn't try porting DS version of Mario 64. While the gameplay was altered heavily for that game, they could have taken the upgraded textures and visuals and had a mode for the 64 style and DS controls.
I couldn't buy a switch so I moved on until Nintendo decided to bring back Super Mario Galaxy and now my mind cant stop thinking about.
PS I am really looking forward to play 64 and sunshine as I heard everybody loved these games
Sunshine is the best in my opinion.
I still think about mario 64 till this day I remmeber when it first came out, I'm still waiting for them to remake it, it was such a fun game and great design I play it an hour couple years ago and still was amazed
This is all I expected from this collection. Why is everyone complaining about it?
I know right? People are talking about how "the original all stars were remasters while these are just ports" doesn't make sense to me because back then all that really needed to be remade was a few sprites. But for a 3d all stars you would need to make every single little asset, which would be way too expensive and time consuming. Just having all these games on switch is amazing enough.
Kaleb L. Sony literally remastered all Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games a few years ago, and then Nintendo does this, it just comes off as lazy.
@@casualdoggo4224 your right
Two problems:
5:40 exactly. one of the main reasons sunshine is one of my all time favorites
Exactly! It feels like a real place Mario is exploring, not some disconnected worlds tailored made for platforming.
My mans did my Sunshine dirty
He didn’t even mention that it controls better than the other two games
I think we need a paper Mario all stars with paper Mario 64, thousand year door and super paper Mario would be perfect
Now to port over Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess!
why leave out Metroid Prime 3?
@@dovic2293 Prime 3 was lackluster, and fell short of the marker that 1/2 had set.
First time playing through Sunshine ever, and I LOVE the voice overs!
If they make a remastered package of Galaxy 1 and 2 they can have my $60 day one. This doesn't cut it for me.
Sunshine is my favorite 3D Mario. 🤷♂️
The HD makes Galaxy so perfectly that you can count it as a new game itself

Way too harsh on Sunshine, that game was flawed but really good and memorable.
Mario galaxy games were the best of the best on the wii, definitely playing galaxy first
Super Mario 64 will always be the best Mario and deserves a full remaster
Who else has no idea what game to start with in the collection
Its best to go in chronological order starting at 64 and ending at galaxy
I agree with lenodotendo. The controls tend to get better as you go from old to new, so that if you go chronologically, it's as if it keeps getting better and better.
Embarrassingly lazy ports at a ridiculous price. No thanks.
what would you have liked instead?
Agree should have updated them for modern controls at the very least. I’ve played 64 and Sunshine via Emulation and they aren’t that pleasant to be honest. Was looking forward to being able to play them using modern methods.
Lee People are actually suggesting Mario 64 controls still hold up to this date 😂😂

i've been hearing that theres no option to invert Sunshine's camera. deal breaker for me.
Damn! That's gonna be painful for us inverted players then
@eating sugar no papa Paying customer problem
i think you can
Hopefully a patch eventually
From what I've been reading, they inverted the camera horizontally in 64 and Sunshine. Push the camera stick left now means turn left. Why it wasn't always like this is beyond me. I have a hard time playing the originals now, pushing one way to turn the other.
imagine mario 64 running on new mario game engine.
I will not tolerate any Sunshine slander
This man went in on sunshine lmfao
Sunshine is underrated. Better than Galaxy imo.
Sunshine is one of the best mario games in my opinion 🤷🏽 one of the main reasons i still have my gamecube so i can still play it .
Hopefully we get an optional DS update for Mario 64.
Yeah the ds version is the best. Sooo much extras, more playable characters, extra bosses etc.
didn't care for the ds version at all the characters felt sluggish and it was really blurry and pixelated
Your review overall was good. Just two more days and I can finally get my hands on this beauty! Can't wait!
You were unfairly harsh on Mario Sunshine. That game was so much fun. Truly my favourite Mario game.
This is 10/10 come on no judging it by todays standards . Forget this guy
As credible as IGN Reviews
excited for this but they are jsut grabbing money, lazy ports. Sunshine should be looking sharp as Galaxy.
I really wish they would have done an actual remaster with all the games being playable in 16:9 1080p. After seeing how good the Crash and Spyro remakes looked Nintendo has no excuse to not remaster the games in All Stars, especially since it’s a celebration rather than a simple re-release.
Bro! They never said they would do this be grateful its even coming on the switch

My order shipped earlier today, will arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to playing Mario Galaxy first.
I am with you
I partially agree because of my specific instance though. I’ve never played 64 or sunshine and I got rid of my galaxy copy years ago for some reason, so I’m super excited for this and don’t see a problem with it

They did it so dirty. Some people prefer that one aswell.
Can't wait for the Advance Wars remake.....
Will I have problems playing galaxy on the switch lite? And what about the pro controller? I don’t have joycons.
I assume you should be fine. As the review said, it probably wok’t feel as natural
No problems. There's an option to make Mario spin to grab nearby coins and you can tap your screen as well to collect.
What does the right stick do in Galaxy?
I've never played sunshine. Cannot wait.
It was a really fun game, I loved it. I never understood, learning years later, that it was apparent divisive? Like, compared to 64, why?
You move better, the maps are more interesting and even more explorable, and FLUDD only adds to his acrobatic abilities. Some challenges did have weird difficulty spikes, but that s the difference between a game that is more open (Sunshine) and one more focused (Galaxy)
how do you play mario galaxy on a switch lite? i wanna know since i'm getting the game and i only have a switch lite

Do you think there will be a Galaxy 1 and 2 combo pack? I really just want this for Galaxy.
Mario is one of my favorite game characters. I love him. But 3d gameplay really took the games to the next level. I like that a lot. Im planning on getting this game for Christmas
Had to grab this even before getting a Switch. Excited to play Sunshine again years after playing my Gamecube

Squintis didn’t say 3 games I said two, it maybe difficult to do but is not impossible, besides they had a whole decade to better up the last anniversary bundle
nxthgbutGEMZ but this was probably only put into development a year or less ago.
nxthgbutGEMZ your comment said 3 though? And yeah dude it’ll be way too difficult for them to emulate it in a more realistic engine. But people just want the game for just one of two reasons. nxthgbutGEMZ but I 100% agree with your opinion it should be new and different especially if it’s an limited time release why not just make it better which is why I agree with your opinion but I just had to play devil’s advocate for a bit.
All the faults are what makes this collection so endearing. I can't wait to play 64 and Sunshine again
Seriously, I never understood why people disliked Sunshine. While, yes, arguably the difficulty spikes for various reasons, but it was such a fun game.
So where is the "galaxy 2 as an unlockable" as the youtubers claimed? 😂
Super Mario Sunshine is hands down my favorite 3d Mario game. I can’t wait to replay it this Friday.
I like all of them, and they are a joy to play. I play for the story and the narrative, and it's those things that stand out the most. 10/10.
What’s everyone favorite?
I think it's too bad Nintendo didn't make a release like this a bit more of a celebration for the fans with some extra effort. Especially for the price and seeing Mario is their most important character.
I love it. My minor gripes are I wished M64, would have been 1080P, widescreen, remade, as Mario should have fingers in 2020, and there are some shimmering and jaggies in there. Other than that, I am fine with this collection.
But that would kinda ruin the game at the first place
People fail to realize that this is a *collection* and not a rerelease or a complete remaster. These games will still have the same flaws they've had since they came out
I have a stupid question but like the glitches that speed runners do on emulators are they available on the switch or did they fix them??
I have no idea but I know they fixed the staircase glitch
What happened to "Expired Nostalgia"?
Just release a patch to bump up framerate for the N64 / GC titles and we are golden.
They can't do that, the physics are directly effected by the framerate.
@Josh Pobje Well they have the resources to amend that.. right? I mean, if they are not emulating the software on the system... I am sure they can get it to work. Even Super Mario Sunshine was originally developed to run at 60fps.
