As an animator, the Animated movies doing well makes me happy. The Animation industry has been receiving blow after blow since covid and things have yet to get better. Between AI, cancellations, bad work environments and massive layoffs everywhere, many of us are without a job. The Animation Guild is gearing up to strike and I hope that when they do, things change for the better and we can make more of these movies; the kind that people love to see but also love to make!

I can't stop rolling my eyes when studios produce rehashed, made by committee IP and it flops like "Well I guess people just don't want to see movies anymore." No dumb dumb. Let artists make fucking art for gods sakes, its not some prepacked product made to order. 2: The same studios crying about bad numbers will cancel ENTIRE FULLY MADE FILMS. As someone who’s suffered from suicidal tendencies throughout his life, Sketch’s “Plan A” is truly the most heartbreaking, and sadly relatable thing I’ve ever heard. It’s so unfair that we live in a world where people truly believe gay people are the enemy. Every time I hear some idiot say “Just leave the kids alone” I can’t help but feel so much anger, we live in a world where people are deciding to end their own lives every day because it’s easier than dealing with daily harassment for wanting to love who they love. Sketch is a brave fucking dude, I know I’ll be throwing support his way for owning it. But seeing everyone come to his defense, I can only hope it’s making things easier for not only Sketch, but for those scared gay kids watching too.

Not only does he have nothing to apologise for, he also doesn't owe anyone of us any sort of explanation. What he does in his free time, who he is attracted to and has slept with, who he votes for, where he went to school/college, what outside hobbies he has etc. is completely up to him and none of our business unless HE decides to tell us. When I was 18 I got catfished on Skype, thought I was talking to a girl I met over tinder, things started getting sexual and i exposed my self. Couple minutes later a man in a mask comes on the camera, shows my entire Facebook friends list to me. Told me if I couldn't pay then he would send the videos of me to everyone on my friends list. I was dirt poor at the time and after he tried for days to get the money he eventually stopped asking and stop hitting me up. I completely gave up on social media and becoming my own artist after that, I used social media accounts with no followers and pursued song writing instead. It's contributed to a pre-existing anxiety problem. And to this day I have no idea if this will ever come back and haunt me if I try to put myself out there again. I'm glad Sketch is getting support

A little while later he started getting extortion messages. He came to me upset and told me what happened and I’m so glad he did because I was able to help him through it. My biggest fear was that he’d do something rash and maybe unalive himself. I made him promise that he wouldn’t. It’s been a few years and he hasn’t heard anything from the extortionist

Regarding the Sketch situation, one of my relatives was like that when Ricky Martin came out as gay. They completely lost respect for him and claimed "He lied to his fans!" Once I was older and understood the nuance and why he would hide it I realized "This world is not safe for gay people, let alone those like me in the LGBTQ+ *. We so much as say we're gay and we gamble between getting our shit kicked in or unrelenting love and support. No wonder homie hid it for all those years." * = I found out I was bisexual in high school and had been introduced to friends who are/were also LGBTQ+. They're no different than my friends who are/were straight or cisgender. They are people just like you and me and it shocks me how proud the world is to beat down on us. It's horrifying. There's no other word to describe the Sketch situation than "disgusting." And by that, I mean how people have been treating him and talking about him following the leak. We all have done things that we regret and we just have to learn from our mistakes - that’s part of growing up. Frankly, we should, if anything, be jealous of The Sketch for having friends and family that gave him the love and support to remind him that he didn’t do anything wrong and they will be with him no matter what.

The entire industry will prop up these movies that are at best five out of 10, and proceeded to put no marketing behind them, and then will blame movie theaters failing for why the movie under performed. Personally, I think that when we see pieces talking about how theaters are under performing, and are a thing of the past, it’s actually being pushed by executives who are trying to save their ass when they just made a movie that flopped because it was either bad or had poor marketing.

Re:Beryl Here in Ontario, Canada we’re under a severe rainfall warning for Wednesday and Thursday. Flooding, flash floods, roads in danger, road visibility severely impaired which will lead to more car accidents. Beryl is having a severe impact here, thousands of miles from where it started. And that’s with our watershed already being severely overloaded due to our already receiving 2-3-4 times the amount of normal rain in the last few months. I’m supporting the term “climate crisis” being used over “climate change”. Open your eyes people!

My dad recently moved to Houston. Was so proud of the house hes renting and finally getting out of Louisiana. Beryl not even one of the stronger hurricanes we have lived through(Katrina, Florida about 7 years ago, etc.) comes in and knocks a tree down on top of his new house crushing both bedrooms, bathrooms, and my dad himself in bed at the time. Though he's doing fine, the house ruined and he doesn't know what he's gonna do yet. Especially with this being only the beginning of hurricane season, I'm extremely worried this year. From a hurricane Andrew survivor, which killed way more people than was reported, I feel for the people of Texas (also lived in Lubbock and went thru some tornado warnings). We didn't have power for months after, school didn't start til almost November that year. No water, national guard everywhere to keep looters away from the houses still standing. The wind, the tornadoes, the damage. A memory that will remain for the rest of my life. I hope we can all come together and help them all rebuild. My heart is with them!!
Speaking as someone from the Caribbean, specifically the Cayman Islands. We got off so lucky compared to some of our neighbours. We got hit as a cat 3 but it just barely avoided making landfall, the hurricane force winds only just brushed the southern coast of our largest island. My father and I evacuated, personally I didn’t want to, but he went through hurricane ivan which destroyed over 75% of buildings in our country. It is extremely concerning for our region to see these stronger and earlier storms. The USA has the money to rebuild when damage occurs, we often do not. Something needs to change with emissions from large countries, the Caribbean is just one of the first regions to be massively affected by climate change, as much as we do to change our habits towards climate change, we are too small to make a global change. We need big countries and international blocks like the USA, Russia, India, China and the EU to change or we will only just be the first to suffer.

Agree with you 100% on Sketch Phil. I had seen his video of where he said he did that but didn't know of the context before that someone leaked and were attacking him. As long as everyone was a consenting adult, who cares what he did? Those people that are attacking him are why so many people hide who they are and some will end up taking their own lives because of they come out to someone a friend that is looking for support but then get bullied on it. I watched and was waiting to find out some controversy like CP or abuse or that he was donating to hate groups against LGBT youth or something... but nope, that was it? It was consensual. That content creators walk around worried about being doxxed or having things released online and it "destroying" their whole lives for consensual things that they did when they were younger is wild to me, and that people will still come out and say hateful things about them. It's one thing I really love about being older -- all the dumb, drunk or low point or desperate things I did or that a lot of my friends did happened before things could be streamed or before everyone had a phone on their camera. There are upsides for sure, like being able to capture police misconduct, or other important things, but it also seems like we use photos and recordings to eat each other alive and that's the thing. No one is perfect or lives a perfect life. The point is that we're all human, and we all make mistakes. It would be nice if we could have a balance of safety and being a bit cool with each other. I really don't care if a streamer did Onlyfans (or honestly if they still do!) if it's consensual, if they want to do it. It sucks if they did it out of desperation or coercion and have these feelings about it, but I personally have no judgment. I don't care if teachers do it, if politicians do it, whatever. It would be nice if we, as a society, just let it be. If you don't like Onlyfans, it's simple - don't watch it. Revenge porn, though, and doxxing, and all of this has gotten out of hand.
My best friend deleted himself a couple years ago after videos of him doing adult only content with other men during his drug addiction were leaked. His wife left him, he was constantly bullied for it, and one day just ended it all. I really miss him man, I really do.

What I find annoying about this shifting climate is that we STILL do not build things that are meant for the environment we live in. We still have these euro-centric, appearance based homes that are not meant for the areas they are in. We still have horrible power outages, destroyed homes, heat death, etc. Like, when are we going to start taking preventative action against worse problems? People in the south still don't have heating systems for winter, houses are still being built in the same way where they don't have any actual application for the environment. I genuinely don't understand how it's been 500 years since people have come to america and we still can't seem to let go of our European homes.
If you don't like the style then build your own house like many Europeans had to do. No one owes you anything and there are plenty of places that aren't in that style. Or just go rent in an apartment. Literally nothing is stopping you from installing a heating system in a "euro style" house or just getting a heater yourself from the store, your points don't even make sense. There is no epidemic of people dying inside their own homes from heat, power outages have nothing to do with the style of the house etc.

These European architecture houses are not meant for America's climate. I'm not just talking about the design, I'm talking about the entire structure and the way the house operates. We tend to just put the same type of machinery into every house and it can cause major issues. We aren't building houses that survive hurricanes. We aren't building houses that survive tornadoes, we aren't building flood proof, earthquake proof, freeze proof, heat proof, homes even though we have the technology and the capability to do so. There are some innovations that help during these natural occurrences but they aren't enough because we aren't looking at the bigger picture. We are trying to adapt something into somewhere it doesn't fit. Our houses are made out of material we brought to the americas. We never adapted to the environment we've been trying to adapt the environment to us.
I will only partially disagree. Yes, as a whole the homes in the US are all made of similar material. However, the procedure that lead to these homes was a matter of efficiency in building, repairability, and efficiency in retention (heat/cold) for there locations. The homes are designed for with purpose. While yes, all homes in a certain state will follow certain code regardless of location. There are local codes with how to build homes. I can only comment on Texas homes as I have lived in south east Texas, central Texas, and north west Texas. And I was formerly an electrician. For example in Galveston there are sections of the island where no matter what, they have to be built on a raised platform, on the west end homes need to have steel reinforcement to help the structure survive hurricanes and the random tornadoes that pop up. In North West Texas many homes still have a tornado bunker. The designs of homes are also very different, fireplaces are still very much the norm here. And many properties still have radiators because it's more efficient than central A/C. The homes in North West Texas are designed to handle the cold far better than the homes in south east Texas. Central Texas is a mix bag of houses being designed to look pretty rather than functional changes because overall central Texas doesn't have the coastal problems of south Texas or the tornado and cold problems of North Texas.
Sketch thing. I struggled with suicide for years of my life. Many of my friends didn't know. I don't talk about it at all. Its not me lying. Its me being ashamed and depressed at the thought of how many years I wasted. I never attempted, never cut myself. I was just waiting for the day when I had enough and one more day was too much to ask. I had all the stuff I needed to do it. And I knew that when the day came, I would make sure I didn't live through it. All that to say, I learned from it. Some good things finally happened to me. I got out of the extremely deep hole I dug. I learned everything I needed to learn and got to the point where if I think about it now, its only destructive and causes me harm. I told my friends after years of not seeing them, cutting them off and I prefaced it by saying I owe them an apology and an explanation. But that this is the only time going forward I will talk about what I went through, put myself through and why I did what I did. Some understood and we've gone back to how it was in the old days. Some didn't want the risk of me causing them any more pain and suffering of not knowing whether they're friend was alive or not, and they have that right. I learned that though I might have been struggling with mental health issues, I still had a duty to accept that my actions where harmful to my friends and they absolutely deserved an apology. Mental health isn't an excuse for treating people in your life like shit. But I have the right to not tell people about my past. Its my fucking past. I have a million reasons not to tell everyone. Some people are very vocal about their pasts and use it to help others. I just don't ever wanna look back and go back to that dark hole again unless its for a damn good reason. I don't owe my story to anyone.

As an animator, the Animated movies doing well makes me happy. The Animation industry has been receiving blow after blow since covid and things have yet to get better. Between AI, cancellations, bad work environments and massive layoffs everywhere, many of us are without a job. The Animation Guild is gearing up to strike and I hope that when they do, things change for the better and we can make more of these movies; the kind that people love to see but also love to make!
Go get a real job, if a computer can replicate the work that you do, then you are not valuable to society. Nobody will feel bad for you when you no longer can make a living after you have been warned and had many years to change careers.

1: The shock around good movies doing well. I can't stop rolling my eyes when studios produce rehashed, made by committee IP and it flops like "Well I guess people just don't want to see movies anymore." No dumb dumb. When I was 18 I got catfished on Skype, thought I was talking to a girl I met over tinder, things started getting sexual and i exposed my self. Couple minutes later a man in a mask comes on the camera, shows my entire Facebook friends list to me. Told me if I couldn't pay then he would send the videos of me to everyone on my friends list. I was dirt poor at the time and after he tried for days to get the money he eventually stopped asking and stop hitting me up.
I completely gave up on social media and becoming my own artist after that, I used social media accounts with no followers and pursued song writing instead. It's contributed to a pre-existing anxiety problem.
And to this day I have no idea if this will ever come back and haunt me if I try to put myself out there again.

A little while later he started getting extortion messages. He came to me upset and told me what happened and I’m so glad he did because I was able to help him through it. My biggest fear was that he’d do something rash and maybe unalive himself. I made him promise that he wouldn’t. It’s been a few years and he hasn’t heard anything from the extortionist

Once I was older and understood the nuance and why he would hide it I realized "This world is not safe for gay people, let alone those like me in the LGBTQ+ *. We so much as say we're gay and we gamble between getting our shit kicked in or unrelenting love and support. No wonder homie hid it for all those years."

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of The Sketch until this evening but when Phil presented the story, my reaction was “why is this a story?”
As long as The Sketch and whoever else in the videos were consenting adults, they have nothing to be ashamed of - they didn’t commit any crimes. We all have done things that we regret and we just have to learn from our mistakes - that’s part of growing up.
Frankly, we should, if anything, be jealous of The Sketch for having friends and family that gave him the love and support to remind him that he didn’t do anything wrong and they will be with him no matter what.

The entire industry will prop up these movies that are at best five out of 10, and proceeded to put no marketing behind them, and then will blame movie theaters failing for why the movie under performed.
Personally, I think that when we see pieces talking about how theaters are under performing, and are a thing of the past, it’s actually being pushed by executives who are trying to save their ass when they just made a movie that flopped because it was either bad or had poor marketing.

My dad recently moved to Houston. Was so proud of the house hes renting and finally getting out of Louisiana. Beryl not even one of the stronger hurricanes we have lived through(Katrina, Florida about 7 years ago, etc.) comes in and knocks a tree down on top of his new house crushing both bedrooms, bathrooms, and my dad himself in bed at the time. Though he's doing fine, the house ruined and he doesn't know what he's gonna do yet. Especially with this being only the beginning of hurricane season, I'm extremely worried this year.

From a hurricane Andrew survivor, which killed way more people than was reported, I feel for the people of Texas (also lived in Lubbock and went thru some tornado warnings). We didn't have power for months after, school didn't start til almost November that year. No water, national guard everywhere to keep looters away from the houses still standing. The wind, the tornadoes, the damage. A memory that will remain for the rest of my life. I hope we can all come together and help them all rebuild. My heart is with them!!

Speaking as someone from the Caribbean, specifically the Cayman Islands. We got off so lucky compared to some of our neighbours. We got hit as a cat 3 but it just barely avoided making landfall, the hurricane force winds only just brushed the southern coast of our largest island. My father and I evacuated, personally I didn’t want to, but he went through hurricane ivan which destroyed over 75% of buildings in our country. It is extremely concerning for our region to see these stronger and earlier storms. The USA has the money to rebuild when damage occurs, we often do not. Something needs to change with emissions from large countries, the Caribbean is just one of the first regions to be massively affected by climate change, as much as we do to change our habits towards climate change, we are too small to make a global change. We need big countries and international blocks like the USA, Russia, India, China and the EU to change or we will only just be the first to suffer.

To be clear, there was a blatent attempt to scrub all the past Sketch material unrelated to his current career from the internet, yet the "journalist" dug it up to out Sketch.

As long as everyone was a consenting adult, who cares what he did? A young creator had an Onlyfans video online from 2 years ago... I watched and was waiting to find out some controversy like CP or abuse or that he was donating to hate groups against LGBT youth or something... but nope, that was it? It was consensual. That content creators walk around worried about being doxxed or having things released online and it "destroying" their whole lives for consensual things that they did when they were younger is wild to me, and that people will still come out and say hateful things about them. It's one thing I really love about being older -- all the dumb, drunk or low point or desperate things I did or that a lot of my friends did happened before things could be streamed or before everyone had a phone on their camera.
There are upsides for sure, like being able to capture police misconduct, or other important things, but it also seems like we use photos and recordings to eat each other alive and that's the thing. No one is perfect or lives a perfect life. The point is that we're all human, and we all make mistakes. It would be nice if we could have a balance of safety and being a bit cool with each other. I really don't care if a streamer did Onlyfans (or honestly if they still do!) if it's consensual, if they want to do it. It sucks if they did it out of desperation or coercion and have these feelings about it, but I personally have no judgment. I don't care if teachers do it, if politicians do it, whatever. It would be nice if we, as a society, just let it be. If you don't like Onlyfans, it's simple - don't watch it. Revenge porn, though, and doxxing, and all of this has gotten out of hand.

What I find annoying about this shifting climate is that we STILL do not build things that are meant for the environment we live in. We still have these euro-centric, appearance based homes that are not meant for the areas they are in. We still have horrible power outages, destroyed homes, heat death, etc. Like, when are we going to start taking preventative action against worse problems? People in the south still don't have heating systems for winter, houses are still being built in the same way where they don't have any actual application for the environment. I genuinely don't understand how it's been 500 years since people have come to america and we still can't seem to let go of our European homes.
If you don't like the style then build your own house like many Europeans had to do. No one owes you anything and there are plenty of places that aren't in that style. Or just go rent in an apartment. Literally nothing is stopping you from installing a heating system in a "euro style" house or just getting a heater yourself from the store, your points don't even make sense. There is no epidemic of people dying inside their own homes from heat, power outages have nothing to do with the style of the house etc.

These European architecture houses are not meant for America's climate. I'm not just talking about the design, I'm talking about the entire structure and the way the house operates. We tend to just put the same type of machinery into every house and it can cause major issues. We aren't building houses that survive hurricanes. We aren't building houses that survive tornadoes, we aren't building flood proof, earthquake proof, freeze proof, heat proof, homes even though we have the technology and the capability to do so. There are some innovations that help during these natural occurrences but they aren't enough because we aren't looking at the bigger picture. We are trying to adapt something into somewhere it doesn't fit. Our houses are made out of material we brought to the americas. We never adapted to the environment we've been trying to adapt the environment to us.

I will only partially disagree. Yes, as a whole the homes in the US are all made of similar material. However, the procedure that lead to these homes was a matter of efficiency in building, repairability, and efficiency in retention (heat/cold) for there locations.
The homes are designed for with purpose. While yes, all homes in a certain state will follow certain code regardless of location. There are local codes with how to build homes. I can only comment on Texas homes as I have lived in south east Texas, central Texas, and north west Texas. And I was formerly an electrician.
For example in Galveston there are sections of the island where no matter what, they have to be built on a raised platform, on the west end homes need to have steel reinforcement to help the structure survive hurricanes and the random tornadoes that pop up.
In North West Texas many homes still have a tornado bunker. The designs of homes are also very different, fireplaces are still very much the norm here. And many properties still have radiators because it's more efficient than central A/C. The homes in North West Texas are designed to handle the cold far better than the homes in south east Texas.
Central Texas is a mix bag of houses being designed to look pretty rather than functional changes because overall central Texas doesn't have the coastal problems of south Texas or the tornado and cold problems of North Texas.
Sketch thing. I struggled with suicide for years of my life. Many of my friends didn't know. I don't talk about it at all. Its not me lying. Its me being ashamed and depressed at the thought of how many years I wasted. I never attempted, never cut myself. I was just waiting for the day when I had enough and one more day was too much to ask. I had all the stuff I needed to do it. And I knew that when the day came, I would make sure I didn't live through it. All that to say, I learned from it. Some good things finally happened to me. I got out of the extremely deep hole I dug. I learned everything I needed to learn and got to the point where if I think about it now, its only destructive and causes me harm. I told my friends after years of not seeing them, cutting them off and I prefaced it by saying I owe them an apology and an explanation. But that this is the only time going forward I will talk about what I went through, put myself through and why I did what I did. Some understood and we've gone back to how it was in the old days. Some didn't want the risk of me causing them any more pain and suffering of not knowing whether they're friend was alive or not, and they have that right. I learned that though I might have been struggling with mental health issues, I still had a duty to accept that my actions where harmful to my friends and they absolutely deserved an apology. Mental health isn't an excuse for treating people in your life like shit. But I have the right to not tell people about my past. Its my fucking past. I have a million reasons not to tell everyone. Some people are very vocal about their pasts and use it to help others. I just don't ever wanna look back and go back to that dark hole again unless its for a damn good reason. I don't owe my story to anyone.

I'm 35 now, don't know where the time went and hate how much i've wasted. I am in a better place these days with my mental health, but that wall, the 'waiting' i can't beat. Waiting to die instead of doing it myself. I have promises to keep and i will keep them. So i just wait...

Hurricane Beryl hit us hard in south/east Texas the other day, and we're expected to be out of power for pretty much the rest of the week. ~90°, humid, and stale in the house, it's fucking miserable.
