    I've said it before; An age cap for congress should be tied to the retirement age, except that when they try to raise the retirement age, the age cap goes down by the same amount. Tie it to 65. So if the retirement age is 67, then the oldest member of congress can be is 63. Want to raise the retirement age to 70? The oldest a member can be is 60.

    When I was a kid my dad had a friend who was a comedian who told me about Robin Williams stealing jokes and that it was a somewhat well known thing in comedy circles. He also told me he didn't believe Robin knowingly stole the jokes and that he was so scattered sometimes that he just couldn't tell the difference between jokes he had heard and jokes he had come up with.

      I felt the same way, I discovered his RUclips back in 2021 through my battle with meth addiction, he was one of my sources of comfort during my painful and uncomfortable withdrawal days or when i was feeling so low or was tweaking so much I couldn't sleep or focus on one thing, having his full hour plus long vids play in the background was a lifesaver.
      having watched "comics explained" some years before that, I was constantly suggested more of Comicstorian's vids and really got into it because I loved how he did full complete narrations of comics instead of just summarizing them or explaining them.
      I loved the way Benny approached making his vids through the voice acting, narration so I can listen while multitasking and also including scenes from the comics he was narrating so i can sit and follow along if I wanted. He also made it easier or helped made it easier getting into different franchises that have been around for decades.
      I haven't been watching his vids for almost a year now after having completely quit doing drugs and being sober since I associated watching his vids to the my struggle with addiction but this news makes me very sad because I never forgot about him and had always planned on revisiting to check out his manga channel since I've been getting more into that lately

      I completely agree. I think people often forget, or were never taught in the first place That the prison labour system is a direct continuation of slavery. The 13th amendment was written with a workaround built in. That being the words "except as punishment for a crime"

      @MrSlowestD16 6 месяцев назад

      Yeah, it's an odd one, b/c they do it to incentivize people. Like if you could just get sued for all your money when you release a drug that to the best of your knowledge you thought was perfect, the risk would be too high to develop drugs. But then they put this blanket immunity in place and now it's impossible for them to face consequences for bad behavior or extreme negligence.

    • @RiversEagle_
      @RiversEagle_ 6 месяцев назад

      @@breania_inekora5069 Sadly, no. The 13th Ammendment specifically places a loophole of "Unless for the punishment of a crime." So what essentially happened is that slavery became more hidden. The United States government at a state and federal level began arresting people of colour en masse for minor crimes, giving them needlessly harsh prison sentences and then using them as cheap prison labour. It's gotten so bad that when there was a supreme court decision to lessen the sentences or even release non violent offenders, the attorney general of California at the time, Kamala Harris (the current Vice President) actively fought and ignored the orders because it would weaken their labour force. She nearly got the entire state held in contempt by the supreme court because she wanted to hold onto the prison labour pool.

    That first story hit close to home. My wife just died on the 25th. Her heart stopped. Not a heart attack, nothing external caused it, it just stopped. She was born with a heart arrhythmia and the Doctors said even with the perfect bill of health they told her just a week prior this kind of freak accident can occur. I was right there. I did CPR and called 911 right away and it wasn't enough. Nothing short of having a defibrillator for the home would have been enough. Life can be taken away in the blink of an eye with no warning or reasoning. Sometimes you see it coming from a mile away and sometime you don't even know it's happening till it's too late.

    What made his videos special was his voice acting, he would read out every dialogue with different voices and style so you knew who was talking while multitasking because I couldn't focus on just one thing or keep my mind from racing while tweaking. He also included scenes from the comics he was narrating so you could watch and follow along if you wanted which helped me with days i was bedridden battling withdrawal. The explanation that Williams gave is very much something that can happen, I know from experience as a musician that a similar thing happens when you listen to music then try to write your own, the little bits that your brain picks up and remembers just find their way in, and I feel that in his case, realizing that and finding a way to deal with it is a hugely important thing to prevent accidentally using something that someone else may have said at some point.

      Robin also often went on stage with no material and riffed and improvised. Very easy to accidentally use someone else's jokes when you're just riffing under pressure and mostly hang out around comedy clubs. He has apologized and also paid some other comics for using their stuff. . Robin Williams overall seems like a good guy but he did steal some material according to other comics.

It still hurts today.

    I was held in the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Jail 7 years ago. The firefighter program is ONLY allowed for non-violent offenders. There are placards along the walls advertising this. They let you know that you're getting jack squat for the work, but it's made out to be this sweet gig that isn't jail. And the thing is, it's better than staying in a 60-man room. I was there for only a few weeks, but nevertheless, I experienced one of the worst injuries ever [torn rotator cuff, no ER to help], not to mention that I was witness to the sexual assault of a fellow inmate. I still have the carbon copy of the complaint that I made (coincidentally, I was released on my own recognizance soon after). We NEED to stop putting people in jail for non-violent offenses, as well as stop putting the majority of people (who are mostly poor) in jail so they can wait and suffer just to get their day in court. Jail reform needs to happen 159 years ago. But since that's not possible, NOW is the best time.

Then in the process say someone elses material. Knowing what I know about the human brain I can see that and making the active decision to stop hanging around is definitely evidence. But it also only helps to humanize the man. As if we need more reasons to humanize him. I know he was an enormous force in my childhood.

    Robin Williams had one of the biggest hearts in comedy. I highly doubt he ever “stole” jokes in a malicious way. He’s no Carlos Mencia or Amy Schumer. His mind ran at 100 mph & sometimes it’s hard to hit the brakes before it comes out. The guy was on cocaine, which he admitted in shame. He also admitted that he’d sometimes repeat something funny he heard & regret acting like it was his own material. As Rick James said “cocaine is a hell of a drug.”🤷‍♂️

    I don't think there needs to be age limits on members on Congress. Legislating age limits on members of Congress is only treating a symptom. Part of the reason we have "too many" members that are "too old" is because there are no term limits. Term limits would purge most of the people who are "too old" on its own, as well as address a lot of the issues with having people sitting in a seat of power that is basically uncontested so long that they are trivially able to serve well past the point where they should.

    • @speedy01247

      @Shaiyo5 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Lauren_3000 By that same reasoning, we shouldn't have term limits. It takes time for politicians to build the skill and connections to be truly effective. Term limits effectively limit the ability for politicians to grow in office. Adding term limits while not addressing age limits would result in even older politicians running for office.
      It makes no sense to limit one but no the other based on possibly finding a "once-in-a-generation" special person.

    The issue with criticizing Robin WIlliams like this is that you clearly show how little you know of Robin Williams. He openly discussed how his 'manic' style of comedy where he riffed so often would have him foolishly skim the surface of his thoughts which might have been a funny impression someone's made on him. He's been openly apologetic for this, and it's literally why big comics don't listen to other comedians and aren't as busy-mouthed when someone tells them another repeated their joke.
