There have been a lot of college athletes on Olympic teams, track and swimming come to mind, so you might see some University/College athletes on our and some other countries Olympic teams this summer. Not all of them but a good number of them are world class athletes.

There are at four North Carolina teams represented in this video. Speaking of the “crack” when they hit, that happens when little kids play, too. It’s unsettling to hear it when it’s your seven-year-old on the field! My son played three years in rec league (kids ages 6-12 divided by age groups) and one year in high school. He was set for a second year but the cardiologist said no, so he was the Chief Hydration Engineer that season (they told him he could make up his own title).

Actually, on that last hit, the helmet coming off was probably a good thing. If it had stayed on it would have exerted a strong upward momentum to the skull, which can be sub-optimal for the brain stem. The modern American football helmet is under continual research and development on injury reduction no matter the direction of impact. The top rated models used by pro and top college teams are engineering marvels that can cost over $1,000.

Rugby is a contact sport, football is a violent sport. That said, football has been puss-ified over the last decade. The NFL and NCAA changed the rules to make it a lot less violent for two reasons. (1) less concern for them about lawsuits and (2) to help spread the game to a global audience that wasn't interested in the violent nature of pre-2010's American football.

There is a reason why they call the quarterback the field general he is the extension of the coach the coach calls in the play the quarterback or QB repeats the play call in the huddle so much more to American football than the massive hits its like playing a game of chess with live players...great strategy can win you the game even if you dont have the best team...

Let me try to explain the football culture, for that matter the sports culture of the United States. As you may well know the United States is very patriotic which comes from its history of how it came to be, but that patriotism goes into our sports as well. We might have the American patriotism for our country, but every sports team whether it be football, baseball, basketball, or even NASCAR, and nowadays even soccer have fans that are very patriotic towards that specific team and/or sport. Now with football it all starts as young as little tykes playing during their grade school years at public after school teams. That gives them the taste whether they want to continue to play football as they grow up or not. After grade school or what we also call elementary school comes junior high which has school teams, where the enthusiasm begins for the players. Then comes high school where each high school has a team, and the enthusiasm goes beyond the players but also to the public of that specific city where that high school is located. The attendance is pretty stepped up at this level at least for that particular high school city district. Now as the players graduate from that high school athletic scouts from the universities go and check out the high school players, and according to their ability and player stats they could earn a scholarship to a university / college, and play for that university. Now as you can see by the videos that you have been watching, the fandom goes way beyond a specific area because students may be coming to that university from the other side of the United States therefore their families and friends might root for that college because of that, but there are also other reasons why people will root for a specific college not in their area. Maybe because they are alumni, or as simple as they just like that particular college football stats or team. Now with college football the enthusiasm as I've been telling you ramps up even more. When the players are close to graduating, or for some have highly sought after skills, the professional teams have recruiters from each professional team that come to scout and watch their games with special seating or even sky boxes high up at the top of the stands to watch the players, and according to their stats they will be recruited to the professional NFL teams. Now with the NFL the enthusiasm gets even stronger throughout our country, and like I said people can be pretty patriotic for specific teams let alone our own country. I hope this helps understand our football, but also our sports culture in general in the United States. The same thing happens in all other sports that we enjoy.
