She puts a huge emphasis on the emotional content, and seems to have a preternatural talent for bringing those emotions to her audience. I've been brought to tears, or nearly so, by nearly all of her songs, and this has not been my experience with any other music I have ever heard. She is one of a kind. Also! If you plan to do more reactions to her, know that many of her most famous performances are from the same show as this one -- "You Are Super" in English -- that was broadcast on the NTV channel (which looks like HTB). I've heard her sing in Russian, English, French, German, Arabic and Spanish so far. No matter what language it is beautiful. In an interview after this show Igor, the last judge to push button, said he waited so long because he didn't want to interrupt Diana's performance with his loud buzzard. He went on to mentor her.
Igor Krutoi is a very special sort of man. He made a present for Diana - bought a flat in Moscow for Diana could continue her musical education. He is also a mentor fr Dimash and wrote a few new songs for him. As Dimash said, their cooperation became possible due to the similarity in their moral values.

I don't think Diana saw this as about a toxic personal relationship, my interpretation is that she saw it as the Earth begging humanity to stop and think about what we're doing - I may well be barking up the wrong tree, but, that's the beauty of a well written and performed song, each of us can take something different from it.
You really should explore more Diana interpretations. Very "tribal, mystical, haunting" style. A unique performer, talented, self-assured, highly trained.
Hi Len. To me, Diana has something that transcends talent and training. Yes, she is impossibly talented. And, yes, she actually learned to sing before she could talk, so she has been "training" most all her life. But she has something extra, something more. She paints with her voice. She creates a private, intimate world and captures you into it. And that is what separates Diana from the rest. Mozart, Beethoven, Hendrix, Robert Johnson, and a few others also had that something extra that transcended talent and training. So does Diana.

Diana's voice is a very rare dramatic contralto, it covers 4 octaves and is polyphonic, i.e. it has very strong overtones which create a beautiful impression as if two or more people singing together in a harmony with each other. This adds to the uniqness of her way of singing. What is totally new for me, - it seems that Diana has her own definition of what singing is and what it is for. It happened to me 7 months ago and there is not a day that I have not listened to her music since. She sings in English, Russian her native language, French, Spanish and Arabic. Human next which is English and then Rechenka which is by far her most popular video when she was 14 yrs old on this show called “You are Super”, she won two years in a row and before that she auditioned for the Kids version of Russia’s The Voice where she sang “ Yodel Time” which you must watch to better understand how she can sing the way she can. She abused and neglected Diana and after a failed drowning attempt which she suffered a broken collar bone threw her out in the street like an unwanted kitten. Relatives came by and saw her outside crying and because the way her eyes looked and she could not talk they thought her to be mentally retarted and took her to an orphanage where her adopted mother worked. A year or so later when a friend was visiting they heard Diana singing to cartoons and it was then she suggested that she be given singing lessons to help her learn to speak. Your astonishment is not exceptional! Diana is an unique contralto (dramatic contralto) her range is C3-C6. Diana uses many vocal techniques rarely used in pop music (like overtones, yodel, and some from lyric chant....). The one that seems to amaze people the most is multitonal voice. The root notes are enriched with powerful harmonics which can give the impression that there are several overlapping voices or an artificial effect which gives this result.
This technique is used in Slavic folk music, like Bulgarian vocal groups or artists like Pelageya (ruclips.net/user/OlegSemyonov73videos), the Russian folk diva. I cannot tell you exactly how these artists achieve this result, I was just told that it is linked to the simultaneous use of the different resonators of the human body and that such a mastery of the voice and of the breath with such a fluidity requires years of work, Diana has been singing on stage and has been taking singing and performing arts lessons since the age of 6!

Excellent reaction! It is definitely Diana's voice, her skill, and her approach to preparing for songs. She puts a huge emphasis on the emotional content, and seems to have a preternatural talent for bringing those emotions to her audience. I've been brought to tears, or nearly so, by nearly all of her songs, and this has not been my experience with any other music I have ever heard. She is one of a kind.
Also! If you plan to do more reactions to her, know that many of her most famous performances are from the same show as this one -- "You Are Super" in English -- that was broadcast on the NTV channel (which looks like HTB). "Rechenka"... Particularly after you said you like fantasy :) This is the one to listen and see of Diana. It is in Russian language, about a young orphan women who comes to talk to her local river just before getting married, or so I have read. Diana was only 14yo when she performed that song. There are very few performances that I would listen and re-listen so often.

You have just been introduced to the most amazing female vocalist on the planet! Nobody else on earth can do what Diana does. Nobody. I grew up in the 1960s and I've listened to hundreds of world-class singers over the decades: Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Loreena McKennitt, and others. I haven't been this amazed by a musical artist since I first heard Jimi Hendrix back in 1967. Jimi redefined the electric guitar. Diana is redefining the female voice right in front of us!
You have just listened to what may be a true contralto. “Diana Ankudinova, A Russian National Treasure” (My opinion), I have been following her for awhile. She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Take On Me or "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. I've heard her sing in Russian, English, French, German, Arabic and Spanish so far. No matter what language it is beautiful.
In an interview after this show Igor, the last judge to push button, said he waited so long because he didn't want to interrupt Diana's performance with his loud buzzard. He went on to mentor her.
Igor Krutoi is a very special sort of man. He made a present for Diana - bought a flat in Moscow for Diana could continue her musical education. He is also a mentor fr Dimash and wrote a few new songs for him. As Dimash said, their cooperation became possible due to the similarity in their moral values.

I don't think Diana saw this as about a toxic personal relationship, my interpretation is that she saw it as the Earth begging humanity to stop and think about what we're doing - I may well be barking up the wrong tree, but, that's the beauty of a well written and performed song, each of us can take something different from it.
You really should explore more Diana interpretations. Very "tribal, mystical, haunting" style. A unique performer, talented, self-assured, highly trained.
Hi Len. To me, Diana has something that transcends talent and training. Yes, she is impossibly talented. And, yes, she actually learned to sing before she could talk, so she has been "training" most all her life. But she has something extra, something more. She paints with her voice. She creates a private, intimate world and captures you into it. And that is what separates Diana from the rest. Mozart, Beethoven, Hendrix, Robert Johnson, and a few others also had that something extra that transcended talent and training. So does Diana.

The emotional depth of this performance is really singular. Rechenka likewise. It's in my opinion deeper than even the great emotional deliveries like Lara Fabian, Elvis ' gospel, Edith Piaf, Nina Simone, etc.
Brilliant as they are, they never took us on a journey from a child's longing to be loved to a babushka's regret for wasting her life on a man, or Mother Nature's for wasting her world on Man, then back to the choices we make now, in 3 minutes.

She was 15 here. She has the rare contralto female voice that I find addicting and unforgettable. It's been said that her unusual larynx creates a sound with polyphonic overtones. One in a billion. Thank you, that was a really nice reaction to Diana, very sensitive too - About what you said, this song really has a different meaning in her interpretation. I’ve read (can’t remember where) that Diana said that she was too young (15 y.o.) to relate with the original meaning so she “resignified” the lyrics as if it is like Mother Nature talking to a human (humankind?). Well, that’s what I’ve heard and it makes sense to me.

I could see the emotions, the shortness of breath and you being drawn in by her mysterious vocals. She is the Queen of goosebumps. She has so many songs that you will find amazing and in awe. It happened to me 7 months ago and there is not a day that I have not listened to her music since. She sings in English, Russian her native language, French, Spanish and Arabic. Human next which is English and then Rechenka which is by far her most popular video when she was 14 yrs old on this show called “You are Super”, she won two years in a row and before that she auditioned for the Kids version of Russia’s The Voice where she sang “ Yodel Time” which you must watch to better understand how she can sing the way she can. She is an unusual rare contralto with a polyphonic effect of her voice that sounds like two instead on one range. She is a one of a kind in our lifetime and you have so many videos you will be able to react to. The reason most reactors pause and you will find this out when RUclips blocks your video due to copyright infringements. You will eventually have to comply if you wish to continue reacting. Just do not chop up the videos, that is so depressing and I stop watching it all together when reactors do that I skip them. Here is a sad background on her:
At age 3, she was the first of 12 children to live from childbirth. Her mother was a severe alcoholic and was not married. She abused and neglected Diana and after a failed drowning attempt which she suffered a broken collar bone threw her out in the street like an unwanted kitten. Relatives came by and saw her outside crying and because the way her eyes looked and she could not talk they thought her to be mentally retarted and took her to an orphanage where her adopted mother worked. A year or so later when a friend was visiting they heard Diana singing to cartoons and it was then she suggested that she be given singing lessons to help her learn to speak. The rest is history with her winning 40-50 national and international competitions before auditioning for the first show The Voice Children’s addition which she sang “Yodel Time”, great performance but dissatisfied with what the judges did not do. Being you have the back ground that you have you will definitely want to see her greatest performance at age 14 when she performed Rechenka on this show, it is in Russian so you will want to get the lyrics to better understand the message of the song, about 16 million views.
