I bought a Toyota echo for 200 and bought a JDM engine for it and definitely had to do some finagling to make it work but what a great engine and I got 47mpg consistently.

The few Toyotas I've done I've had to completely strip down each engine of everything on the outside and reassemble with the parts from the original engine. One even the timing covers were different too.

Sounds about right. In this case it was worth the extra work.

Just swapped out a knocker slant 4 Yota engine for a new one in a mid 2000s Camry, and what a pita it was...Install the intake,ps,ac compressor, etc onto block before reinstalling engine..
