I would tell you to "Square up chump" But you're a foot taller than me, and could probably collapse my throat with your thumb and index finger. So I'll just say, I respectfully disagree 🤣
It’s a great knife for non knife people. I’ve bought several as gifts. It’s simple built well and gets the job done. I do agree that it’s boring as hell. I don’t really understand all the hype it’s a decent knife and does what it’s supposed to do and that’s it. I did enjoy how much you hated it though. Very entertaining
I was visiting with my ex girlfriend and she kept asking about my knives and seemed interested. Her favorite color was green so as I was leaving I gave her my old green micarta Elementum Tanto. It was a great little knife and she’s into anime and stuff. She always just buys stuff from the dollar store even her kitchen knives so to her it was like getting something super nice. I gave my cousin who refused to try anything but his old full Endura a QSP Penguin and he likes it. He has to break down boxes everyday and is a nurse so seemed like the best bet.. strait edge, razor sharp, easy to strop.. etc. I didn’t hate anything on the Elementum but the clip. Took it off within first week then lost the screws. The Ti ones seemed kinda cumbersome so just left that off when I gave to her.
they bought it on the secondary market. its entirely possible the previous owner adjusted the lockbar tension. i wouldnt jump straight to potential QC issues with only anecdotal evidence from a singular second hand unit. @@nicholaspietrzak9992
I know the vid is over a year old but I just had to watch a review of someone who refused to worship at the alter of Civivi. I said "meh" about an Elementum at work and got the red headed stepchild treatment for a week, lol. We is overpriced (for me), Civivi is overhyped (for me) and I think their budget brand of Sencut is a solid, everyday use and abuse bargain and my fav of the 3 "brands" (FOR ME!) Solid review, subscribed.
The elementum was great for its time, early Civivi when the budget space wasn’t as great as it is now. It definitely gets outshined now but I still think it was great when it came out.
I suggest you try the E2 version. The button lock completely changes everything. I worked in the knife industry for years, so someone ragging on the Elementum, while using a Spyderco, is hilarious…
I get it’s boring but I love my elementums, very light and thin. I got 3 used for 90$ the s35vn jade with the black steel the wood handle and the green micarta tanto, kinda love the contrast look on the jade scales
I have a couple in my collection including the original button lock unit all budget... Do you hate it cuz that was your alt purchase after you got cart sniped on live? Lol
The Elementum never did turn my head either. I really tried to understand the hype and almost bought one but so many other knives caught my eye instead.
I’d never claim the proliferation of the Elementum and its variants is what turned me off to most if not all trad drop point bladed knives that fold, but it sure didn’t help. I pretty much avoid them as a rule. Leafs, spears, wharnys, and sheep’s, and similar are fine. Mostly I’m into trailing, straight backs, and tantos, but recently I’ve leaped into pocket cleavers. So far so good. But I’m happy they developed their button locks, across this line, and others, cause those rule. Just my 2 brain cells worth.
I bought the elementum button lock not the new one. I bought cause I thought from what most said it's one of those you had to have. Its still the most I have spent on a knife. When I got it I was so sad at how boring it was. I looked and it wrist flipped it open and said this is it? I now mostly just get stuff I find and think are cool.
Reviewers have pushed the ELEMENTUM for years. I have had three of them, I kept one, the others were sub par and not worth keeping. In short elementum I am not impressed.
I have one that I like a lot, but the detent on mine is phenomenal, it’s almost too stiff, but I can get a really good grip on the flipper tab so it absolutely fires out. Maybe their quality control just sucks.
I bought a version of this knife, I love it. I'm no knife aficionado, I do wish it opened a little more snappy. Sorry I don't know the knife lingo. I think I need the knife dictionary. I didn't expect the snobbery. Lol honestly I own around 50 knives or so, I never looked at them with this much attention to detail. Good video, but I'll have to start taking notes to understand what you are saying. I do think ill appreciate them more.
I agree that there's nothing exciting about the Elementum. It's hard to argue with the value of a hollow ground s35 blade for less than 70 bucks retail though. The elementum 2 with the button lock makes it more appealing if not just for the fidget factor. I'd take the Altus over it all day though.
I recently got a we and civivi elementum and all I can say is I think you got a bunk second hand one. The ones I procured perform perfectly. Next level fidget.
Ganzo FH 922 is Elementum killer . D2 steel, flip opening, deep carry wire pocket clip, slightly larger blade, better ergonomics and significantly less money
I have the coated black blade tanto and put Unlocked Composites red carbon fiber scales on it. I love the look but I never really carry it. I get what you're saying it's just there. 🤷🏼♂️✌🏻
@@TristateEDC I chose that one as my first edc knife, ordered today. Black blade with green G10, looks a bit less boring. I thought they only made them as flippers but when I saw the wharncliffe with thumb studs I couldn't resist :) I really liked the Vosteed Chipmunk you reviewed recently but that one I could not find anywhere near me.
The s35vn blade is thinner than the D2 version by a few hairs which obviously makes it lighter and it doesn't flip as nice as the D2 version. Wouldn't call this a hot take but it's warm so I like it keep up the great work!
It's definitely not that great, but the elementum is what I bought for my groomsman and myself for my wedding. They are non-knife guys so they loved them. I chopped the flipper off mine, added thumbstuds and cut out more lockbar access lol its much better as a stud knife without a flipper
I personally like the simple no-frills design of the Civivi Elementum (and action on mine is spot-on), but the "premium" elementum from WE is another story imo, they took a good design and removed the only thing that separated it from a totally boring and uninteresting knife, the hollow grind! I'll never understand that.
Good, funny review. 🤩 I just bought one on-line just before finding this vid. 😂 I’m Swedish so less is more in my book. I hope I will be happy with my new, old model, plain, boring knife. 😘
The reg D2 elementum has washers that break in nicely. Not sure if your S35VN one has bearings or washers. But agree with you Cole I don't get the hype about the elementum.
Good honest review of the Civivi Elementum. I am not a fan of fidget flippers in general. I do like the blade design and the simple, narrow handle and scales. I prefer black G10. Fun channel, liked and subscribed
I had one for a short time with a black D2 blade and green micarta handles, and while it was an ok knife, I just couldn't stand the pocket clip. It quite literally hurt my hand to use for more than a few minutes because the pocket clip would dig into my hand whenever I tried to actually use it, and I had similar experiences with the flipping action. I eventually just gave up and returned it, and I have since "downgraded" to a Buck 112 Slim Select in 420HC. I like it a lot better it's made in the US with workers who are treated at least somewhat fairly, can be easily found for $30 or less, and while the pocket clip is undeniably ugly as sin, it's a hell of a lot more ergonomically friendly than the pocket clip on that Elementum. Glad to see I'm not the only one who finally caved to the hype train and was only left annoyed that I paid almost $60 for a $35-$40 knife.
The Elementum detents can be hit or miss. When they're good though they are quite good. They're a nice low frills knife for the money but they are what they are. A simple flipper knife designed to sell I'm mind boggling numbers. It's not my favorite either, but I'd take pretty much any elementum over any buggout 😂
Ohhh God........ let's go back to the beginning of 2021 bhq does the elementum in s35vn and jade. For right around 80 bucks...... if you got a good one and I bought 2 at the time..I gave one away and kept one.. but no I never carry it. It's pretty boring. They make great knives to throw in go bags and your bug out and car edc kits
I had the button lock elementum. Within two weeks one of the standoffs started rattling, and I had no luck fixing it with tightening the screws. Later when I cut exactly 12 plastic straps, it developed side-to-side bladeplay, and again, unrepairable. Straight to trash. Anyway, nice reviews!
The reason I love Civivi is because of their great design and build quality. The reason I hate Civivi is because they use junk steel that won’t hold an edge.
I managed to successfully ignore all the Elementum hype until they came out with the wharncliffe version, and bought one of those. But it was a letdown. While the action on that one was decently snappy and also had the added fidget factor of studs and the flipper, I could not stand the lockbar access - because there isn't much. The texturing on the lock bar also became uncomfortable very quickly. Lockbar and pocket clips are my 2 biggest dealbreaker items on folders, so off it went. I'm in your camp Tristate, I don't understand the popularity of this knife.
Yeah I bought one for my girlfriend and she loves it. She can even take it apart clean it and put it back together again. Which is pretty cool. I don't personally own one... know what I'm sayin? Great show, Take it easy brother.
Agreed. Lots of "meh" there, regardless of sub-type or price. I ALMOST kinda sorta like the fixed blade, but don't need it nearly enough to think about getting one.
I have the elementum in D2 with the wood scales and the s35vn with green micarta scales. Both had poor action/weak detent from the factory. Easy to fail the deployment. Lock bar access is terrible and the lockup is also extremely early, like 10% which scares me. Just not impressed with this particular knife from Civivi. Not sure why it got so much hype. I fell for the hype too. Now the elementum button lock only……that thing is awesome.
I just got the push button #2. It's fidget factor has doubled. I also bought the black fiber carbon unit with the Damascus blade. It's sexy and classic at the same time. Perhaps his purchase is dated at this point?

You like it, you buy it, you hate it, stay away from it, plain and simple, the world will be a better place.
Nailed it!
The only negative thing that he could say about the Elementum is that the knife is boring. Amazing review haha
That's honestly the only downside 🤣
I would go one step further.... 10 things I hate about Civivi 💣💣💥
Same. The first time I got one I hated it and returned it. I have the Dessert Warrior Elementum, but that because I like donuts.
I have the button lock with nitro v and I like multiple deployments as well so I slapped a Kwik stud on it and beat the shit out of it at work. It's nice for what it is.
That is a Pro-Gamer move bro 👌
