Shockwave vibra-screed. What slump do you typically have for floors in cold weather? Is water reducer the same as plasticizer? And do you ever use grade pins, instead of having the laser out while you pour?
Same slump in cold weather, there's warm to hot water in the mix. Yea water reducer and plasticizer is basically the same stuff. Sometimes I'll set a grade pin with a nail through it at floor grade to go by. Mostly we use the laser.
Shockwave vibra screed. I used your videos to convince my employer to get our crew one of these. Not the greatest model but it makes a difference. Having one of my own would change up the side work a lot. I'm taking your online video course too, keep the videos coming, love learning new tricks and tips to get the best quality possible. Thanks for the videos, your awesome don't stop.
"Shockwave Vibra Screed" Hey Mike I love the videos, I've done some concrete work here and there in the past and always enjoy it. Would love to take the plunge and start a small business of my own but I suppose I lack experience and confidence. Any advice you could throw my way would be much appreciated. Cheers Mike
Kevin, the drawing already happened. I started when I was 20, didn't know how to run a business either. I have a private membership opening soon for people like you who want to learn more about starting their own business. You'll have more access to me for questions and more tutorials/trainings.
Shockwave Vibra-screed We have been doing it by hand for as long as I can remember, occasionally when I'm on Union job we get to use the power screeds but never one that small and easy to use.
“Shockwave - Vibra Screed”. I screed by hand. I’ve borrowed a vibra screed once. The guys on the rakes will make or break you on these so training your rakers is key. They have to move fast and keep the right amount of concrete in front of the bar. About a 1” roll in front of the bar seems right. If you run over a low spot, stop and move the screed back and go over the low spot again after your raker pushes more concrete in to the low spot. Thanks for your videos.
“Shockwave vibra-screed” Just starting out dads been finishing since 84’ hand strike everything but can’t find help that wants to learn to strike so looking into vibra screeds
SHOCKWAVE VIBRA SKREED .HI Mike .Craig from Australia here .I have also been concreteting for about 40 years and am still hand skreeding , we pour slump between 80 to 100 mm,3 to 4 inch and am wondering how level you can get floors using vibra skreed versus hand skreed. Cheers Craig.
Greetings from Yorkshire. Well Mike, you’ve got me hooked watching your channel. The jobs you do are so far removed from my personal experience that you might as well be talking about building a Saturn V rocket from scratch, but that makes it even more interesting (not sure if that makes sense?) but rest assured that it’s a good thing. I have so many questions, purely from the aspect of learning new stuff, but at my age it would be fairly pointless to ask and besides which I figure you’re busy enough! Subbed. & Liked, obviously. David
I love vibe strikes I can run crap out them so much better than being bent over I love to have one hopeful starting my business this year in Minnesota I hope I can save enough up to buy one I been pouring since I was 14 next month I'll be 41 it's time for me to go out on my own much love from Minnesota I hope you and your crew Mike have bless year...LEE I also stright my padsfirst I still am kicking fool old school way..💪💪
We have both, but prefer using a dago striking stick we can do it as fast also as goo as the power screed, the thing about power screed if you are not careful you end up getting it too wet then it comprises the concrete, so we pour no more then a 5.5 at the most, we Consolidate the stones then roll that way.
You cannot be any good on the vibrascreed if you havent struck off A LOT by hand! You have too many unnescessary people standing around in the way. No homeowners or women allowed helping unless they are bringing beer . "Black beauty vibrascreed"
Hi Mike thanks for a video, I have a question what cause concrete slab crack after pour couple day later on month? Anything missing that the guy did for me? Hope you can give me an advice, Thanks
That concrete looks pretty wet, I know you say you use a reducer, but that looks more like a 6.5" or 7" inch slump. I can't believe the reducer makes it that much more fluid.
Mike: Great presentation. Did you use welded steel mesh or rebar in this slab? I've never worked with concrete, and I will be pouring a slab for a backyard woodworking shop, probably 20' x 24' give or take. So I am watching a lot of videos so I can help the finishers if needed. Thanks.
It’s the first time I’ve seen a vibroscreed used and the Shockwave Vibroscreed look the business! I guess I don’t pour enough concrete to own one but I’ll definitely hire one next time I have to spring a floor!
"SHOCKWAVE VIBRA-SCREED" Always a treat to watch a good crew making a tough job look easy. Thanks for sharing some of your knowledge along the way! Cheers!
used the power screeds 5 years ago or so but went back to screeding by hand wasnt really impressed with the power screeds !! I find one or 2 guys with a strait edge is quicker !! Doesnt work to well if the concrete is alittle stiffer !! Unless you have a good rake man !!
Shockwave Vibra-Screed, great video Mike love to see the young ladies learn such a valuable skill, they look like they know what they’re doing, Good job dad! Also, We have been in the pool business for 36 years and we have always subcontracted out our concrete work but in these prosperous times it is hard to get people to do the meticulous work that we demand with a pleasing attitude. My 21 year old son is taking over the business and we are going to start pouring our own concrete decks, therefore we have been doing a lot of research on different tools and the Shockwave by Marshalltown is going to be added to our arsenal. Hope we win lol!
Mike for me its a bear but buddy i am old loll now all these young whipper snappers can run them like a cake walk, but to be honest these boys love to strike it off with a dago stick and no disrespect to any Italian people but they invented the practice of striking it off this way, we will use pins for our grade points while out away from walls or where ever our grade point is, but we use a laser stick while rakers are pulling.
I live in Vermont I do stamped concrete just got a gas powered one and love it saves my back just want to say thank you for all you put out been doing this a long time but u can always learn more
Hi Mike, really like your videos, very informative, I just bought a shockwave for my build, waiting for delivery, we are building two homes and two shops in AZ. Even though they are pricey, they look very well made, I at first bought a stark with the honda motor and what a piece of junk, tried to put it together and gave up, never even put gas in it and returning it, so I ordered the shockwave from HD Supply ( great price). I am 64 and most of my help are older but experienced and hoping the shockwave will save our backs! so I am really looking forward to giving the power screed a try, thanks for the tips...!!!
Most are rear discharge, we have some company's that have front's. Me and my guys are pretty good with the hand screeds too. This screed has it's place, depends on what you're doing.
Shockwave Vibra-Screed I’m from St. Louis and I’ve been doing construction all of my life and you guys make it look easy. We love Marshalltown tools as well.
I’ve been finishing concrete for 60 yrs and the last twenty with a Honda powered screed...W O W ..what a difference not only in labor ..but far faster and more accurate
“Shockwave Vibra-Screed” Always screed by hand. Just like to be able to feel the grade. Not that I wouldn’t love to use a vibra screed I just never have.
Looks alot wetter than we were pouring, does that make a difference? 6 slump hot mudd so it's really like a 5.5 when it hits the ground
Shockwave vibra screed, We screed by hand. I work with a lot of old school guys. 🇺🇸

Shockwave Vibra-Screed! We use the vibra with a rail system. Have you used them? If so which method do you prefer?
Concrete construction job is tired but at the last minute it gives you a sense of accomplishment.
Mike I use a Lindley Viberstrike

Planning a slab pour this Tuesday. Wasn't sure if I should rent a power screed or not, but after watching this I think I should.

You can use the welded wire mesh in the slab. I also lay 2 rows of rebar around the edges for more support on the edge.

Just learning here. I’m assuming the shockwave gives vibration into the cement? Is the purpose to extract bubbles or to help settle the cement?
The camera's a little too far from the poured concrete.
I gotta get a new camera person, I'm fired.
Just started watching the videos. What are you guys holding the mags in your back pockets with ?
