I wanted him to buy it because I knew it would finally expose that he has no idea how to run a real company with millions of customers. He has only ever run niche companies like Tesla, where success isn't measured in profit or units sold but in it's stock price. Now he's got to run a company that provides a service to millions of people across the globe and somehow keep all of them happy. He doesn't even understand what the point of the blue check was. The tweet complaining publicly about issues with the hardware, that then got replied by a staff member laying out exactly what is wrong... with Musk then publicly firing him on twitter, then deleting his old tweets and posting the fired employee's answer as his own sums up all of Elon Musk's career in one simple thread.
@@thefacelessone74 I mean, he was publicly insulting his entire company, but I guess that isn't relevant at all to your response now is it? You're relying on a lack of information to make a point that doesn't qualify. XD And of course, ignoring the argument to then insult the person you're trying to counter. I work small time security, local company. Not an org that needs a public speaking face to lie about what it's doing to the world to make money. XD
Except it took him a day to get Twitter in better shape by firing half of the bloat. But thanks to silly CA laws the cash burn has to continue for at least two months.
The craziest part of the "hyperloop" is that not only is it this insanely small tunnel which lacks all of the safety precautions of a normal sized tunnel, but he's filled it with Teslas which are the only vehicle which are known to just spontaneously explode into fire. It's a deathtrap on a timer.
Thunderfoor fans are so uninformed bias that they don't know GM recalled all their EVs over spontaneous combustion and tesla hasn't. 99% of tesla fires are from damage to the car, better than gas cars.
Exactly, a battery fire in small tunnel like that would be horrific. No fire exits, just one lane, you can't get emergency services in and the people out. It is crazy how stupid it is and people are clapping for it.
But you know his fan boys will continue and are defending him relentlessly even though it's obvious to others that his acquisition and running of Twitter has been a dumpster fire. But damn it he's owning the libs oh and he's not a republican becuase he said so even though he openly spouts their idiocy and votes for them.
The strange thing is it was always on show they just ignore it, they still do. They used to have to hide their dirty secrets now that's pointless coz no one cares.

I think the only reason he said he would buy Twitter was to inflate the stock for his own gain. He always does this stuff, and I'm glad he's finally experiencing some repercussions.

@@qurqo That's not quite true. Depends on the type of work, the type of boss, the type of system, the geography and transport systems, and the type of employee. The right combination and productivity skyrockets when people can work from home, the wrong combination and it tanks. Noteworthy is that work from home systems often expose employees who weren't doing anything productive at work either, and incompitent managers who were actually making things worse rather than better... But it is worth noting that there are psychological aspects to the whole thing too. Some people work better in a more relaxed environment without other people distracting them, which could mean working from home, depending on their family situation and the way the office is organized, or it could very much mean NOT working at home for a different combination of those same factors. Likewise, some people require that very distinct separation of space between the two to focus on the relevant tasks, others can manage with as little as putting on different music in the background and be good. A functional work from home system can reduce how much productivity is lost if people take time off work due to certain illnesses and events, where they can't come in to the office or work a full day, but still have the time and ability to get Some work done to regular standards (compaired to forcing sick people to come in and work a full day as usual, which produces distinctly substandard work and is very likely to infect other employees and further tank productivity). And on and on the list goes. Very much a case of 'applied correctly to the right use cases this is very beneficial, applied badly and/or to the wrong use cases it is quite harmful'... much like a truely staggering number of other things, really.

Twitter actually had a few good use cases back in time. It was used by dissidents to communicate in some countries such as Iran I think it was. There were also some east European countries where the boot was coming down hard and protesters used twitter when arranging protests and to document police actions minute by minute. But those days are gone. Now every government knows how to shut down internet services using firewalls at their borders and twitter is one of those that gets shut down fast. Left is a quagmire of worthless spam, scams and marketing.
I’m glad the “biggest con man since Edison” narrative is finally in the spotlight. We have been trying to convince the public for years and now it’s finally happening.

@@cholan95 Maybe because the people who are great engineers, are not hindered by the science that tell things are impossible. He simply forgot that you can use the atmosphere to decelerate the rocket with parachutes. It's a Ms Truss asking if she can borrow some lettuce (LOL).
I feel like a comment on the blue check thing is worthwhile. It started as "I am who I say I am" and nothing else, but that changed over time. It later became a sort of "approved by Twitter" mark, after Twitter punished certain folks for saying certain things that Twitter felt a need to distance themselves from but weren't actually TOS violations. But here's the thing, it wasn't even just a "I am who I say I am and Twitter isn't trying to distance themselves from me" mark, it also had meaningful effects on your account, in terms of reach and visibility. Having a blue check meant your tweets were more visible than regular folks, blue check posts were promoted by the algorithm. There was even significant talk of employees selling blue check status under the table. What he should have done is have a mark that functioned as the original "I am who I say I am" purpose of the blue check, and then have a separate paid feature that gives you the extra features, extra promotion and function as a status symbol that was given blue checks and charge for *that*.
That's actually a pretty good idea. Something that Elon "I know more about manufacturing than anyone in the world" Musk, has been severely lacking of late.
Ah, but that's actually a good idea, and not some idealized version of reality that appeals to a personality cult and a narcissistic billionaire with enough hubris to be his defining characteristic
What it really meant was that someone was active on twitter for a while, nothing more. While that isn't saying a lot it did at least at like somewhat of a filter for troll accounts and to a lesser extent scam accounts. It raised the barrier to entry.
@@MrMarinus18 Nah plenty of very active and long-term twitter users couldn't get the check mark. It was a big thing people would talk about a lot, about how unfair it was etc.
This whole thing was just a massive back fire on him. He probably got drunk, said he would buy for that stupidly high price. Then when people challenged him about it, he doubled down and waved his rights to due diligence and got stuck having to buy it. Then Twitter held him to the contract and he got stuck. Kind of hilarious really.
I'm pretty sure it was all a maneuver to sell off $8 billion in Tesla stock without tanking the stock's price. Tesla was overvalued by 100% or more (as we see now that it has tanked), but Musk couldn't sell normally because if ELON MUSK sells TESLA stock, EVERYONE will panic-sell. But if he's doing it as part of the Twitter buy-out, no one panics. There was a $1 billion penalty for backing out of the deal, so he probably expected to lose that much at most, still gaining $3 billion profit. He tried to make $3-4 billion and has lost 30 times that (so far).
He actually benedited from this. Sure twitter is overvalued, but tesla is much more overvalued. But he cant outright sell tesla shares without losing ownership, or tanking the stock, so his next best option to essentially sell his shares, is to leverage them as collateral in buying other companies. So yes he may have lost 22billion on the twitter deal, but he profited more than that on the valuation of tesla shares he posted to the banks in collateral.
It also put him in the position to put up or shut up. Most of his other ideas are either "under development" or here but working at reduced capacity until it can be improved. Twitter is an already existing and widely used platform. Any changes he makes are incredibly transparent and very easy to evaluate. It's literally his worst nightmare. All of his promises and clever speeches are not going to help users who can't get other users to see their tweets. He can't claim the improvements and changes are going to arrive next year, or the next year, or the next year... Social media users want their services to work NOW. He has overextended himself and has no idea what he is doing.
I think on purpose. What does he not like? Journalists calling him out for his lies with basic fact checking. How to make their power and trustyness on Twitter much lower? Let everyone make up a name and buy a checkmark. I would not be surprised it's 8 dollar. 8 is a popular number for far right sympathants. 88 even more since that's Heil Hitler.
I remember hearing this for the first time and I burst out laughing. My wife at the time had no idea why I was rolling on the floor dying. "What's so funny?" she asked. Air bearings... in a VACUUM. I had to explain to her that a Vacuum isn't a household appliance, it's a situation in which an area of space has No Air at all. She just looked confused and still thought it was a good idea. This reminded me of such fun times. =')
Yeah, the air bearings in the vacuum tube just drives me a buggy. How stupid does an idea have to be for people to not buy into it just because it comes from a rich person.
@@adrianfleming3437 I assume you mean his sons who inherited the network when he retired although your answer is essentially still true, they would never sell it to Elon especially when it's technically doing well.
And I STILL see people on my social media timelines saying stuff like "He is definitely a genius but he seems to be going through a mid-life crisis right now :(". And mostly those aren't even fans of his but regular people who just think he is real-life Tony Stark or something. The Tesla factory in Germany: Yes, there are problems with the water. That factory uses a lot! For the last few years (well, close to a decade now), there was not enough rain during autumn/winter, and the groundwater levels are getting lower and lower. We are now at a point where certain crops have to be watered artificially which grew fine before and lots and lots of our old trees have been damaged by the heat/drought. More forest fires too which don't go too well with old WWII bombs that are still out there in the forests. He built that factory in exactly the region of Germany that is expected to be hit the worst by future droughts. Yes, it still rains here. Not nearly as much as it used to though. Then there were reports about him trying to prevent a union to form at the factory. The right to form a union is part of the law here, so that didn't go over well. He also built a few buildings without permission (I think the permission was "not yet" granted or something - still he didn't have permission). And then he complained that all the regulations were too much and things took too long. Our bureaucracy could use an overhaul and is overcomplicated but that is something he should have known beforehand.

I have a speculation. He will go the Trump way. Reality TV, maybe some podcast or something. Finally politics. Musk 2040. But that is just speculation, you never know what the writers have in mind.
Few people know this, but this show is a remake of Venture Bros. Unfortunately, the original was canceled before Doctor Venture (the original character Musk is based on) could undo the damage caused by firing half his staff for no reason. Without more episodes of the original to base the plot on, I wonder what the show's writers plan to do? Hopefully it's better than the final season of Game of Thrones.

There is an entire American political party based on that exact concept. Guess which one. Might be the one that caters to uneducated rednecks who are happy to believe they are smarter than scientists.
Funniest thing I've heard: Musk fired staff based on lines of code written last year. So programmers writing the most technical/important/sensitive code got fired...
He might have ended up getting rid of the people who made the things right the first time. And kept those who had to try and try again to get it right.
Yea, this is what proves beyond a shadow of a doubt he knows NOTHING. That has to be the stupidist metric of any kind ever used in the history of mankind. From the adulation he receives in the USA media for "inventing the tunnel" I guess that most Americans are not familiar with them. They rarely travel by train, which is where most tunnels are to be found. Europeans generally take tunnels for granted, and most would find the idea of putting disco lights in them absolutely absurd.
I don’t know much about this subject, but it always seemed risky to me for any company to pay billions for an app. Because new apps come out all the time, someone could build a new app that’s similar to Twitter at any time. And everyone could just migrate over to the new one
Yes anyone technically skilled enough can make an app, but the user base makes the app. People want social media apps because their friends have it. That is what he bought, and while not impossible to ruin, it takes alot to unachor that.

Doing a Google Earth review of the Hyperloop test track in Hawthorne and then going backwards in time to see the progression I found that the section missing where the tram cuts through is missing in every image going back to the beginning, in February 2016, where there is no test track, just a space used for car parking. It is possible that the missing section could be installed while doing tests and then removed to permit tram operation but what started as a car park is returning to a car park!

Even having a different colour badge to signify who was a Twitter Blue user would’ve been better.
Or he was probably high, lol!
Yup. Dude is a manchild
This is how he does without government subsidies.
I think on purpose. What does he not like? Journalists calling him out for his lies with basic fact checking. How to make their power and trustyness on Twitter much lower?

I have to say that this season of Elon has been the best in series history. I have no idea where it’s gonna go next. Sure some people are saying it’s too unrealistic and there’s no way anyone in the real world would be this stupid. But the show is a comedy of errors, it’s not meant to be taken seriously. Anyways, thanks for the review and plot break down.
Back in the day, I would have thought no one could be that stupid. Yet, if you have a cult following of over 100 million yes-men, I suppose it's only natural to climb further down the hole of your own failure with no critical feedback to stop you.
True, there's lots of character undevelopment this season
Hopefully he captains the first manned mission to colonise Mars. I believe Thunderf00t said it would work out just fine. It's the only way he can top this.
The head of the biggest ad agency in the US told Musk, via tweet, that activists had nothing to do with advertisers backing off, it is concerns for brand safety. Musk then blocked him.
That says a great deal about how Musk sees himself, and how he sees the world.
Guess his logic thinks that advertisers and activists are lumped into one huge group.

A senior programmer that writes and corrects a few lines of code can be worth a 100 junior programmers who codes thousands of lines. Absolutely ridiculously outrageously dumb.
A real hoot considering all Musk’s code for PayPal was worthless and had to be scrapped.
@@butterfacemcgillicutty it's genuinely amazing how someone can have that much money and get an idea that stupid past so many people

Not one of his former students was there to help him in his time of need either. So sad.
