Sedative medications (CNS depressants) interacts with WILD LETTUCE. Wild lettuce might cause sleepiness and drowsiness. Medications that cause sleepiness are called sedatives. Taking wild lettuce along with sedative medications might cause too much sleepiness.
Some sedative medications include clonazepam (Klonopin), lorazepam (Ativan), phenobarbital (Donnatal), zolpidem (Ambien), and others.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of wild lettuce during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
Enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH): Don't use wild lettuce if you have this condition. It contains a chemical that can harm people who have trouble urinating.
Allergy to ragweed and related plants: Wild lettuce may cause an allergic reaction in people who are sensitive to the Asteraceae/Compositae family. Members of this family include ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and many others. If you have allergies, be sure to check with your healthcare provider before taking wild lettuce.
Narrow-angle glaucoma: Don't use wild lettuce if you have this eye condition. It contains a chemical that might make glaucoma worse.
Surgery: Wild lettuce can affect the central nervous system. There is a concern that it might cause too much sleepiness if it is taken along with anesthesia and other nerve-numbing medications used during and after surgery. Stop using wild lettuce at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.

L virosa has been found to contain lactucic acid, lactucopicrin which is amorphous, 50-60% lactucerin (lactucone) and lactucin. Lactocerine is the main component of the lactucarium, which is a neutral insoluble material.
Lactucarium is a diuretic, laxative and sedative agent which relieves dyspnoea, and decreases gastrointestinal inflammation and uterus contractions. It has anticonvulsant and hypnotic effects as well. In addition, the lettuce contains traces of hyoscyamine, which is probably responsible for its sedative effects. Before the Victorian period, wild lettuce was well known as a painkiller and sedative.

While many natural healthcare companies and homeopathic websites promote wild lettuce as a pain treatment, scientific evidence is lacking. Few human studies have examined wild lettuce and pain relief. However, some animal studies suggest that the compounds in wild lettuce extract may have impressive pain-relieving properties. For example, a study in mice demonstrated that at doses of 7 and 13.5 mg per pound (15 and 30 mg per kg) of body weight, lactucin and lactucopicrin, combined, had comparable pain-relieving effects as 30 mg of ibuprofen (6). However, animal studies on the pain-relieving properties of wild lettuce are limited.
Studies do show that other types of sesquiterpene lactones from the Asteraceae family are effective in reducing inflammation, which may aid certain conditions, such as asthma and arthritis.
I'm glad to finally see someone use the stalk! Because the stalk is where the milk is!
I’ve always read that for a strong tincture that you want to leave the plant matter in for up to six weeks for full extraction.
100% correct
This plant can be SO strong that I wouldn't even let it sit. It always varies, but I know what I have tried is ridiculously strong, just chewing on a few leaves will effect you.
I always let my tinctures set for a minimum of 2 weeks before I stain it.
You are completely correct!! As well as you should never blend the plant, just roughly cut it up so there is more surface area for the alcohol and water properties to reach the desired properties.
@@cindyhowarth7208 Why is it a bad thing to blend it?
I like what you did there when you added the STRIPPER"...LOL
I find it works better for nerve pain, lingering old injury pain, thinks like that, rather than acute pain like sprains or newly broken bone type pains. My favorite way to use it is as a tea. My husband smokes it. 'Tar balls' really upset my stomach. Really enjoyed your video 😊
I have severe nerve pain from a rare disease. You said you felt it was good for nerve pain and is that if it's done with the vodca apposed to cooking it? I need to make it as strong as possible.

Thank you ma'am extremely helpful. I'm dealing with knee pain and hip pain from life and my job a boiler tech.
Thank you for making this video. Getting ready to harvest some and I love how you’re not cooking it. I would love to hear the other commenters results.
Awesome video. Enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this great information.
I really love your videos!!! Love your sense of humor!!!!! Thank you!
thank you for the heads up
I enjoyed receiving the finger at 1:06
Subtle.
Thank you very much for your informative video. I made mine just putting them in the glass containers.
Can't wait to try this for my lower back pain and migraines! Let's hope I can find some of that around here in Ohio. LOVE YOUR HUMOR!!!! Thanks for sharing! :)
At a ratio of about 30g of chopped plant material to enough liquid to cover plant material cover with cling film.
(I’ve found using a glass or Pyrecs bowl with a base of around 4/7inchs idle)
This will help for max extraction.
After 24 hrs remove old plant material add another 30g of material then repeat until all plant material is finished.
To kill off the bitter chlorophyll taste and greeness,
once finished put the cling filmed covered container in direct sunlight until the green Chlorophyll has been killed off.
That would probably kill off active compounds
Thanks for sharing! I just found some of this today and holy crap is it strong! It's 8 feet tall and just about to flower where I live, the leaves are huge, like a foot long. I just chewed on some of the leaf pieces and I immediately had less back pain. I had a lot of energy for about an hour, then honestly felt a little high, then super, super sleepy. It was so strong I'm honestly a little weary to even work with it lol. I'm going to dry some for teas. I could see this being used for a fever and aches that come with a cold. I would be really interested to use it as a balm...
Ooooook .
Than you for the video. Also, I love your sense of humour. :)
This is awesome thank you. At the moment I'm living in Regional Victoria and have known about this Prickly Lettuce I think also called Wild Lettuce. I cut some leaves off on Thursday 1:12:2022 steamed them collected the juice and used that as a blend with ACV and mineral water(MW). No more than two desert spoons each and a full glass of MW Used it over the week end. masked my neck and hip pain till yesterday when I ran out. YES I did sleep well, first time I have slept for nine hours in fifty years (I'm 66) Then I used the leaves in a soup and two stews. It looked just like spinach. Didn't even notice the taste. I threw nothing away. Aout to make a new batch but will try a different method. First I must visit D. Murphy's lol [столичная бода ] Stolichnaya Vodka lol. P.S. the stems down here are half an inch think.
Great video. Am going to try it 😁
Thank you
Hey how are you I’ve just done the slow cooker method how long would it be able to store thanks great video
I just make ming by filling up a jar of fresh leaves chopped a bit and let sit 6-8 weeks
Thanks.
Awesome
You have a very weird sense of humor ...I like it
Lol 😂 I can laugh because I am right there with you! I really believe people can not understand unless they are going through it also
I love your accent.
love this video . i have a question , my dad has stage 4 colon cancer & we are treating him with Natural therapy , Herbs & tinctures. how much of this would you recommend for the pain ?
Ive often used the sap from a leaf stem for instant pain relief from my bad back... It doesent last long, and is bitter as all hell, but it works.
I’ve never heard of using it so soon..? Everything I’ve ever read/seen recommends 2-3 *months* . 🤷🏻♀️
I use 100% for all my tinctures, I’ve wondered about blending my herbs, instead of ripping and or cutting, makes sense that blending would release more of the good stuff, 🤷♀️
I was wondering why you didn’t use a hot water bath to evaporate some of the ethanol
So how much of the trencher drops do you use?
Wow thanks for the video. I’m trying it now. Found a wonderful women on Etsy with a small tincture business. In Vermont. Wonderful tincture.
Hope the lockdowns and no movement ends someday there for you all. I watch the videos and can’t believe Australia. Maybe the truckers will turn it around over there 🤔
Ok
Love that lettuce 👍
where did you find your lettuce or seeds, i'd like ro try this tincture
Just make my first tincture today. We will see how it goes in at least 8 weeks.
Thanks for the share x question - would it be better to let the tincture extract for a few weeks? Would you ingest and/or apply topically? I'm glad to see you are using the stems as well, that's what I've been looking for, before I make something myself x
Hi Alexa, there's a broad range of opinion on this. It's a matter of trial and error. It effects different people differently. Try 4 drops and see the effect....increase incrementally up to 24.
Vodka is Vodka...for the most part,
$65 for a for a jug of absolute geez. Why not use the cheap
stuff?
I personally let dry wl set in vodka for 6 weeks, because I worry about moisture.
@@geralddietz4577 Hi, 65 dollars for how much of vodka?
@@geralddietz4577 I have not been able to find anything much cheaper than that! Even on sale it’s still close to $50. What brand do you use that is cheap? Would much rather use that than have to pay so much. Many thanks
Can I use food grade ethanol?
Very good, thanks for the info
I haven't even gotten through halfway through this video where I am already laughing because I love the way you did this video thank you so much I appreciate everything you have done

Thank you so much Vanessa!
Right! This is the first Pando land video I’m watching and I’m grinning from ear to ear- girl from Iponima… I’m cracking up from your humor!!!
And Stripper!
I wonder do you have to use the leaves at all if the sap is contained in the stalk?
Ms Medicine Lady I like your remite however you didn't show us what to do with it? Do we drink it or do we put some on the area of our bodies that's in pain or what? Thx
I bought some of the seeds for this and I thought I was getting some sort of arugula because there name it was being sold as. I guess I won’t plant it just yet. Not until I know I can use it or have all the supplies to make the tincture
yeah.... but how do you use it??
I have a question...... I suffer from an old army injury.... I am currently on a high dose of opiods..... but I dont care for them...... I cant take Ibuprofin cause I only have 1 kidney.. but can take tylenol... in your discription box it reads ""For example, a study in mice demonstrated that at doses of 7 and 13.5 mg per pound (15 and 30 mg per kg) of body weight, lactucin and lactucopicrin, combined, had comparable pain-relieving effects as 30 mg of ibuprofen (6)"" is this the same effect as Ibuprofin or just compared too??? thank you for your video.... I have everything but the nice dark droppers
What is the amount recommended to take?
Wunderbar😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉
I have prickly lettuce growing high, didn't go to seed, it was in the way of my new gardening experience. The other seedlings and plant I planted died, so I got to try new seedlings with more sunlight🙏. I cut this tall large plant at least 3/4, and hoping it can grow again? This plant has a lot of prickles...so cutting the leaves and the stems, putting them in the blender..they won't cause troubles? They will be strained and not get into the tincture...yes?
Is there anything to do with the remainder of the squeezed lettuce???
QQQ question how do you apply it and how do you use this tincture under the 👅 4 trops 🤔 ?
you can add it to hot water and sweeten with a little honey too, if you don't like the taste, its a little bitter.
Is this anything like Kratom?
You wash the leaves and stalks first ??
You Don’t reduce it or do a double extraction?
Very imprecise. How would you know how to dose?
It effects different people differently. Try 4 drops and see the effect....increase incrementally up to 24.
With edibles you don't know a dose. You have to test your medicine to see what it will do. Just because it works in a certain way for you, doesn't mean it will work for the next person in the same way.
I prefer to put the mixture through my juicer. Messing about with sieves is so old school.
i tried a taste of the white sap. it made my tongue numb
and i wondered about my throat also going numb
but no worries . just a smile and no pain for a little while.
is this an opiate?
someone told me opiates are addictive and make teeth weak
i am mostly positive that a small amount of tincture would not cause anything but pain relief used in moderation.
is this meant to take orally or topical?
Did it work for you did it help ?
Can you use young leaves, or are the older more mature stems/leaves better?
They all have different potency. What grows around here grows to about 8 feet tall before flowering. When it flowers it is the most potent. Really, people have to use caution with this stuff because it can be so strong.
my question is, what kill the pain? the vodka or the plant? can it just be done with water?
Does anyone know if you can give this to your senior dogs for pain?
I use full extract cannabis oil for my dogs. I mix it into homemade golden paste. Great for hip pain
Can I use dry plant?
It's summer time where I live and all I can find is already dried.
That won’t be potent any more. If you pick it when it’s most potent, as it begins flowering, and dry it yourself, you could also use that.
I find it very easy to do… I will try it….but I need to know the dosage…. 1/2 ml? More?
Thought I'd give this a try. Only thing I didn't have on hand was a stripper. So I went and got one. Man my wife was upset.
Sorry one other question. I have gout typically an outbreak once or twice a year. Currently in one right now. Foot is swollen and cannot walk. Do you think this would be helpful or do you think it might stimulate the nerves too much? It seems like with gout it’sVery nervous sensitive and if I eat the wrong kinds of things it can overstimulate and make it worse. Any suggestions? Not looking for any official medical advice just if you could refer me to any similar stories that you may have heard or any help you can give would be very much appreciated. Thanks
You can try Nat Sulph - Schuessler Tissue Salts . Nat Sulph is water eliminator . I paid $12.50 for 125 tablets . Good luck , wish this can help you .
@@joannadorothy 🙏 Thanks (I just saw this message.)
Tart cherry extract. At the onset of symptoms I take about eight caps at once. It will usually knock it back. I keep going until I'm certain I've dodged it.
There's pharma, like allopurinol, too.
But the best thing at the beginning is to walk. I know about elevating the inflamed member above your heart. I did that in a chair for three months. You can sleep that way, but you have to walk. Your calf muscles contract and help with circulation. If it's late stage, like yours, it's too late. The swelling immobilizes your foot for a good reason: to prevent joint damage from the grinding crystals. Next time, get proactive and walk it back.
You could also try drinking stinging nettle tea for gout. It helps reduce the inflammation with will reduce pain. In addition applying nettle salve is also help full
Gout involves uric acid , Dr Perlmutter has a full video on the topic and as one other said tart cherry is one of his suggestions.
What do you do with the tincture? Couple of drops on the tongue? Rub into skin?
Good question! It effects different people differently. Try 4 drops and see the effect....increase incrementally up to 24.
@@pandoland574 skin or tongue?
@@mikewilmoth3383 in yo mouth. alcohol tinctures are usually for internal use. for an external use you would use some olive oil or something of that nature.
I use ever clear, it's cheaper, and i don't have to grind so small. I just chip with scissors. It pulls everything out, i end up with almost clear cellulose, when i pull it out..
But everclear doesn't have water if you're getting the real stuff. And a good portion of the medicine is water-soluble rather than alcohol soluble. That's why 80 proof is perfect. It's half-and-half, no measuring necessary.
Dosage?????
What is the dosage???
What can you do with the solid mush left over? If you use it somehow, how much should you take?
Hopefully, you have extracted the good stuff and the leftover can go to the compost.
It can be dehydrated and made into powder

Hello! Thanks so much for this tutorial. I wish I had found your video before I tried another method. Per the instructions on another video, I chopped up the prickly lettuce and used 91 % isopropyl alcohol to extract the milk. I covered the mixture with cheese cloth and then removed the plant matter from the liquid. I let the liquid sit outside with the cheesecloth covering to let the alcohol evaporate. I was then going to use the slow cooker method to thicken the extract. Unfortunately, because I have been preparing for a family reunion, I forgot it was on the porch and it has been sitting there for 2 weeks. Is the tincture bad r can I still use it? It still has an alcohol order to it. Looking forward to your response.
Thanks!
Isopropyl alcohol isn’t safe for this!
Vodka only
You must use vodka
Can use it, just make sure it is topical and do not ingest it !!
@@jamestwine958 I JUST TRASHED IT. I HAVE A NEW PATCH GROWING AND WILL TRY WITH VODKA ONLY THIS TIME, LOL!

Hi Do you eat it or put on painful areas topically?
after learning of the plant I have used it topically on an injured elbow, the pain is immediately lessoned by ten fold
and lasts on me between 30-45 minutes and that is a miniscule amount of latex from 1 plant I'm totally amazed wow
well this works
@@scruffydude1how did you apply it? Did you make a salve or something? Or just chopped up a plant and rubbed it on?
@@bcnewe Hello I made a salve and its great well , I also just rubbed on the fresh cut plant
alcohol tinctures can last a lifetime if well cared for.

Why is this bad for prostate? What about prostate cancer?
I thought I had wild lettuce. I made a tincture. I took one tsp. I got an instant stomach ache and bloody stools. You can buy wild lettuce seed. I would suggest that. You also can use domesticated lettuce. Just let it go to seed, so it gets bitter. That's where the RX comes from.
Generally, you take only a drop or two. A teaspoon may have been too much. Be careful introducing wild lettuce to your yard, it can be an invasive weed. One plant was plenty of leaf growth for personal use. Garden lettuce has plenty of good stuff, but no pain-relieving properties that I know of.
All lettuce types have a little bit of lactucarium from what I have seen in my research.
Hello. Thank you for your video, but are suppose to rub it where you have the pain or drink the drops if so how many drops per take and how many times a day. Thank you.

You have to do some experimenting with the doses. With this type of medicine, you won't know how strong it is until you do the test. I suggest you do the test on a Sunday afternoon and your not home alone.

Hi & Thx for this info! Can I use 91% isopropyl alcohol instead of vodka??
I saw a video using rubbing alcohol. The comments were noooooo don't use isopropyl rubbing alcohol! If u can't drink it don't use it! Use vodka. That's what I have been reading. I had the same question.
Nooooo
Isopropyl alcohol can poison you!! Do not use it!
Can I buy seeds from you?
No, but if you're in Brisbane you can have some for free ☺
I live in the high desert region of CA and they seem to grow in abundance here during the summer, like everywhere! Front yards, backyards, sidewalk cracks, hiking trails, etc. Most ppl despise them and see them as an annoying weed. Little do they know (:
I got mine off of amazon. New plants are already coming up from the seeds they produced.
Much much safer if you measure all the ingredients out by weight, so you know the strength of this tincture. It is recommended you take Lactuca virosa tincture: (1:1, 25%), 0.5-3ml TID.
@Enrique Ronan this is hilarious!
no washing the plant material ? I had a couple bugs but just removed them.
sixty bucks ! zoinks woman ;)
I rinsed mine off in a 5 gallon bucket first.
I keep seeing videos on "how to process" but not how to take it!
Use ever clear alcohol. Its $20 a bottle. Save $40 per bottle. ☆
Um no.... The alcohol level does not make safe medicine.... 80proof to 100proof if highest anyone should safely be the highest... 100proof is 50percent water.. and 50percent alcohol.. anything higher becomes dangerous....
I think she gave everyone the bird while pushing up her glasses. 👓 🤔
From what I’m gathering through research online. I can’t use this tincture due to being allergic to latex and having high blood pressure. Oh well, maybe someone else can harvest and use it. It’s growing in my back yard.
Try a hops tincture instead.... great stuff
It's different than latex from rubber trees.

One can strip off a few leaves and chew them like chew tobacco that's what the old timers did b4 they all died!
Before they died?

Wild lettuce is lactucarium, not opium. Totally different. Not addictive, helps pain like aspirin or ibuprofen would, that's all.
Omgosh... Bad info on this video.. the medicine takes at least 6 wks... And there is NO need to blend ANY plants.. the alcohol itself knows how to extract the benefits from plants chopping with scissors is more then enough... Theres no need to massacre a plant... You add your alcohol to ur plant, to the top as air doesnt oxidize it.. store it inna dark place. U dont have to shake it once a day, either. But to let it sit no less then at least 6 wks, you got only alcohol tasting plant..... Plz dont follow this it is wrong...
