I’ve been using wild lettuce for years, it grows abundantly in my yard. No bad affects ever and never need large amounts. I have so much this year I’m going to try making resin out of it. If I get a back twinge or headache while working in the garden I will grab a small leaf chew it and swallow 10 minutes no pain. Just an FYI alcohol tinctures are good for 20 years. Non-alcoholic tinctures are good 3-5 years.

I discovered some wild lettuce way in the back corner of my yard- I was so excited! There were over 30 plants- it was everywhere ❤. I kept everyone away from it and just let it do it’s thing. It got to be about 5 feet tall and some deer came and ate the tops off of every single one! We definitely know it was a deer because the kid’s spotted the deer just standing there lol My sister actually went out side and got within 6 feet of it and it just stood there. She called me asked who she should call - thinking it was sick. Later when I realized where the deer was it dawned on me that it wasn’t sick- it was probably high as a kite 😂😂😂

And it’s how I found out about wild lettuce.
Made a simple tincture letting chopped stalks and leaves blended in blender with alcohol, soak in everclear 190proof for 4 days or so, wrung out the leaves and chunks through a cloth and then I just add drops to a little water to take. So far I feel kind of good, happy, relaxed. Not overly tired but I didn’t do a lot.

May have one also in the yard itself but don't remember if it got pulled. Haha My people were part of the original Pa Dutch and some family were members of the Pennsylvania German Society so I also have some pretty old string bound remedy and folklore books printed by the PGS. In one, it also says fever and stiff joints. But no remedy on application of it. Hope that helps. @@Latebloomershow the resin takes time to make. The easiest way is to use a crockpot. I use the leaves and the stems to make a really strong tea. I let mine stay in about 12 hours before I strained it and transfered it into another pot. I let it cook down on a simmer until it becomes a black tar. Then I put it in a dehydrator some people just let it sit on parchment paper. Then I popped my tar into my already made tincture and shook it til it was all devolved. There's a lot of videos here on RUclips.

I have tincture almost ready. It's been working about 5 weeks. I may try the resin with the next batch. I've seen two videos making it that way. One of them dehydrated it on a silicone mat and it peeled off so easily.
They then placed the sheet of brown resin in a baggie and cut a small square when they needed it. I believe they then froze the remainder.

We are quite far out in to the countryside and to our surprise, we are blessed with many, many plants and herbs natrually growing around our property. We even have a variety of cactus (including prickly pear cactus) that has a home in it's own landscaped garden bed. I truly feel as if the previous owners may of been thinking ahead or were possibly herbalists? Thank you for this video, I'm learning something new every day and am loving this new journey of mine.

As far as effectiveness, I think I'd rather just have a concentrated liquid. Easier to handle and regulate the dosage. Since every batch is different, I start with half a teaspoon, and work my way up. Sometimes a teaspoon works, sometimes a tablespoon, sometimes even two tablespoons. I'm sure there are variations in the plants and preparation each time, so I start out light with each new batch.

Thanks Kaye for this very useful information. I too have wild lettuce growing in my yard. I transplanted some from my neighbors yard about four years ago and it's taken off like crazy. Requires no effort whatsoever, flourishes nicely on its own. I've been collecting and freezing my foraged medicinal and other wild varieties for a number of years now and then running them through a blender and straining the mixture through a screen colander to make juice. The taste is not objectionable at all and I'm able to recover some of the plant phytonutrients through this method. I sometimes add some powdered vitamin C as a preservative and once refrigerated, lasts for over a week. So much healthier than anything store bought and definitely cost effective.
Thoroughly enjoying the videos. Much appreciated, have a great day.

Told me lots of stories of only eating caught salmon, having to use a boat to get to the mainland, and the handful of folks that lived around him. I got close to taking him there after he was no longer able to make the long drive in his first generation Suburban, which he had done several times. Since he was a hoarder, I can just imagine how it looked. It was a getaway place. I would imagine someone squatted on the place and stayed, as he developed dementia and went into a home. That was years ago. I was in Vancouver three times, 2015, 2016 and 2017, Granville Island, for the Vancouver Web Fest (which Late Bloomer finally won Best Reality Series) so close, but no cigar, as the saying goes.

During the growing season you can pull off a minimal amount of leaves to collect the latex but ive found taking a pointed sharp knife and puncturing the skin of the plant called scoring as the poppy farmers do when collecting opium latex . The plant stays alive and repairs itself quickly and has a scar but seals . U can collect the latex while running which can be tedious and time consuming or score it and come back in an hour or so and collect the dried latex .

Been looking everywhere in my city dwelling for prickly lettuce and nothing. I've seen many different ways people process it from crockpot to your method. All using 80 proof vodka. I'd opt for PGA 180 proof grain alcohol in hopes that the higher alcohol content would extract a higher level of the medicinal properties of the plant. My grandma passed a lot of home remedies down to me. Good brown vinegar, with the web, is a wonder drug. Lots of vitamins and a great anti itch treatment for break outs. However, I can buy the seeds online and grow the plants, or purchase any of a number of tinctures or other preparations. What I would like to know though is if I am making my own tincture, after it's been setting and shaken for 4 weeks, do I just pour off the liquid and save it and discard the rest? I also wonder how it is that something like alcohol can be enhancing and not destroy the chemical qualities of a plant.

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow  Год назад +1

The alcohol extracts the good stuff, is the way I understand it. Yes, discard the rest. Then use as any tincture, a few drops in water or tea or straight into the mouth. Please research this. I'm sure if you buy a wild lettuce preparation, it will have suggestions for usage. Best of luck!!

Wonder if you could put the leaves and stems in a Ninja and pour the vodka on it and blend it up, then strain it when it has sat long enough.

I don't see why not..? If I was going to do that, I would process first, put in jar and just pour vodka over it.

I came home from work yesterday with two liters of vodka! I’m ready to try making some this weekend. I have bought several herbs from Frontier Co-Op. Wondering if anyone commenting has used Wild Lettuce for pain. I have chronic hip bursitis. I’ve been on Meloxicam for a while. I stopped a week ago and started using Boswellia extract. Thinking about adding Collagen type II.

I have been suffering with hip bursitis since at least 2006. The thing that helped me more than anything was a 3" pure bamboo latex pad on top of my pillow top mattress! I don't take any drugs, just rest when it starts acting up. See the chiro regularly. I do have collagen and should be remembering to take it.

@@Latebloomershow,@karenleach2032, if you havent hear of NEM (natural eggshell membrane) I highly recomend trying it. It is the membrane between the inside shell and the eggwhite. one study showed an efficacy rate of 75% and that is also the rate Im seeing following up on people I know tried it. It helped me and my dog personally when our hips were acting up. NEM is the marketing name. I wouldsometimes pull/harvest the membrane from farm fresh eggs but couldnt gage if The amount was the same as what is in the capsuls I buy. there are no side effects and if it is going to work for you, you will know within 10 days or so. It only took about a week for me and my dog.
such a book! but wanted to give a little back for what you gave making this video. 😊
