Nice to see someone make videos with actual useful information in them, not just disguised as what you are looking for but in reality it's just them being weird and not giving any kind of useful info.
Man I just want to say thank you very much, this video just saved my day, I kept getting my ac shut off after few minutes and the display screen kept saying “hvac breaker” after watching few useless videos abt comfort pro I saw this video, turns out that little green wire was loose on top of the compressor and wasn’t getting good contact. Tightened it and am typing this while enjoying the cool air from my cab 😁.... Thanks for sharing this video👍🏾
Many Years ago...I made a APU out of a FORD 1200cc gasoline engine from a ford pinto station wagon. I welded a support frame outside of the cab over engine and hooked it up to my truck. Sucking from the lower radiator hose and a pressurized engine block feed to the cab heaters via a check valve allow a flow of hot coolant for heat in cab and engine block. The 12 vdc alternator charged the batteries. The exhaust was routed to keep the oil pan warm . A 6 gallon fishing boat gasoline tank was added for fuel. Ran on 2 gallons a night.
This video was extremely helpful in finding why the heat was not working. My carrier has given up on the comfort pro not wanting to fix the heat. The shop or the shop thay sent it to did have not clue. So simple all i used was a pair of pliers. As for the belt tool you can just roll the belt back on. I did my belt only from the top cover off. As i guy who works on gen sets i totally forgot this was a belt drive And was going all over trying to figure out why low hz here i was trying to find the engine spec rpm. Like a dumb dumb i totally forgot about belt slipping = low hz. Thanks for this excellent video by the way anyone can do this.
Yes, I had to remove all the videos and cancel the IMPCO RUclips channel. If you watched the videos, you may have noticed that the opening showed the ComfortPro facilities, and with Carrier buying the ComfortPro brand, they didn't want the previous facilities at the beginning of each video. My first comment, glad to see you said to remove the 4 pin plug to disable the APU, the last thing you want is for the APU to start on some programmed function! Just a couple of pointers, yes the belt can be installed without the tool, but don't expect long life from the belt. The tool is designed to prevent the flywheel pulley from cutting the edge of the belt during installation. You wouldn't notice the cut when installing, but it will shorten the belt life. Also, to remove a link, turn the belt inside out and it will be much easier to separate the links. And still on the belt, it is a directional belt and must be installed in the correct direction or the belt will fail very quickly. On filters, both oil and fuel, these are special long life filters! Often you can find a cross-over to another brand, but especially for the oil filter, don't take a chance! And if you have to dent in the corner of the filter to get it past the frame,,,, something isn't right! Sometimes people will say "that person wrote the book on,,,,," indicating that the person is the expert. I wrote the troubleshooting and diagnostic manuals for the ComfortPro series of APUs, and I created all the IMPCO ComfortPro videos!
I got in a truck, first apu, and I'm learning all this. The oil filter, you said NOT to use a crossover filter? How often should I change oil/filters? I have many questions
You said it is a “directional belt” what is the correct direction to install it? We took ours out removed a link because it was loosely, reinstalled and it twisted up when turned on. What did we do wrong? Any tips will be of great help.
@@Remse413 If you look, you will see little arrows on the belt. That is the direction the belt should be moving. There is a tool that needs to be used when installing the belt, it protects the belt from being cut by the edge of the pulley. The tool lifts the belt up and over the pulley and directs it into the grove. Rolling the engine over by hand could help ensure that the belt isn't twisted.
very nice explanation of how to change the power belt on your generator ,, i have a very similar APU on my truck it works really good and is easy to service I like that belt on yours , i have never seen one like that before ,,I have a plain black belt on mine that's 3/4 in wide ,and mine has a jack screw to adjust the belt I have one of those Rig master APUs too ,, i hated that thing with it's cranky perkins engine always refusing to start in the cold I took it off and went through the engine ,, and have modified it to be a backup generator here at my farm ,,I removed the AC compressor and condenser and all the hardware for that and added a second generator ,, the primary 6.5 KW generator will run most everything in my house and it has a 4Kw generator that has a AC/DC inverter that effectively makes the 35 amp AC generator a 350 amp battery charger it will charge my full bank of 20 ,, 1K amp hour 12V AGM batteries ,,while at the same time providing 25K BTUs of heat to my house through heat reclamation from the exhaust and coolant and powering most of the house all at the same time it was actually cheaper to do this than buying a standby generator that runs on propane or natural gas and most home type backup generators even the bigger ones closer towards 15 and 20KW have air cooled engines ,, i don't need a bigger generator because if i need more power i live on a farm I have several way larger generators ,, the biggest of them powered by an 8V-92 detroit 225KW it'll power a small town ,, it's a really strange machine ,, a former military generator it was originally used to run 4 gigantic AC welders for building bridges,, i inherited it from my neighbor who bought it at a surplus auction
I have some experience with them , but mostly it's my love of building things , I raced lawnmowers in my teens and used to build race cars too ,, i love building stuff and proving it can work
You may not have all the names right, but you certainly have the knowledge & that's the most important part. That reminds me, I have to change the oil in my Kayak motor LOL... Nice video Jason along with your pretty & enthusiastic assistant, LoL...... Ya know in the old days they made what they called a V-los belt. Was similar to what you have only held together by rivets. My dad used V-Los belts often because on machinery getting the correct belt was hard and you could make that any length you wanted. They also had a belt power that make the belt stop slipping. I was a kid in those days hanging out in Dad's machine shop. In my own shop, we never used adjustable belts. They slipped easy and ruined expensive pulleys. However all our equipment had adjustments for belt tension. Talk about an expensive belt, I had a CNC lathe that the 12" timing belt cost $350.00. All I know is it had cables in it to keep it from stretching. We changed it once along with the timing pulleys in five years because the teeth went bad.
Similar to your truck, there are just some parts that are expensive, do a big job and you can't skimp on them, nor can you purchase "after-market"... CNC belts are extremely accurate.
Jason you're doing a fine job of wrenching. That would be called a pulley by the way. And it helps to have someone with skinny arms to get into tight places. Good job Heather
There is another universal V-Belt installer tool available too. Fit in the palm of your hand. Just lays in groove and has a tab to hold the belt. Falls away when you turn where belt is not riding on it anymore.
I’m glad you put this video up. I didn’t have the special tool but it went on just fine. Put it on like you indicated, hold firm pressure with the left hand keeping it in the groove up on top(mine is on a tractor so I could lean over it) while slowly rotating the bolt clockwise with the 17mm and it pops right in. That bottom case half is a bear to put back on when you are alone. Mine actually uses a V belt(about $10). Carrier in Sioux City gets $58 for the belt you are using. Thanks again for sharing this.
I don't drive ,But your instructional video's are awesome keep up the good work. I drove a strait truck with about a 30" box for a small aluminum can recycling company in the early 80's
I wonder if an after-market, automatic tensioner would work on this. It might extend the maintenance cycle. I see that there are some places for mounting on the frame. Plus, all you’d need is 1 wrench to take the tension off the internal spring, something to keep one of the other pulleys from moving (or just use the wrench you used on the generator), and the belt would almost fall off.
We tried automatic tensioners, they didn't work out. They normally are flat and run on the backside of a belt, so they wouldn't work with the linked belt, we also tested flat belts with a tensioner, the pulleys for the flat belt were very expensive, between the belt, pulleys, and tensioner it would have increased the price dramatically.
I really appreciate your videos...I just bought a T680 with a Carrier APU, and it's not working. Starts and runs, but n power to the outlets inside, and the heater isn't working. I searched videos, and found your vids...checked my belts and both are really loose. I've been working on various vehicles my entire life, so...I do know a loose belt when I see one, these are loose loose. Just reviewed the vid for a second time before I go out to tighten them both. I don't have the "special tool" so, wish me luck. You two be safe. I drive for Landstar.
Could also be the breaker tripped. It is on the motor that requires the special tool. You should do ok with out the tool. Jason has done it once before. Cool a fellow BCO
scott k I thought so too. I tried once and they had something similar but was a little to big for the fuel line. May I just got went to a bad Napa. It was in Waco lol
The current production units have replaced this belt with a flat multi-groove belt with a spring loaded tensioner. If you have to replace the generator, you can upgrade to the newer belt with a retrofit kit.
Brian Mulligan I’ll buy them when it’s getting close. Once I change it I save the old as spares just in case. Since I always change before a break they will work in a pinch
Jason, did that temporary belt come on that generator? Cause by design that belt will have less surface contacting the pulleys due to the space between the links. I’ve used those in the industrial setting for years but only to get us by till the weekend when we’d change it out to a Gates belt. They are tough belts but would slip on us under heavy loads until we got it changed out. Just wondering if it’s being used as a standard now instead of a backup? And this was another awesome video by you 2!
That's exactly the problem I've been having. Takes forever to heat anything up and it used to work great. The damn belt......I thought it was a bad capacitor.
Glen Higginbotham Yes there are. We did some research a while back on it. They make a low profile type of solar panel that would mount good on top of the box. Maybe something we do in the future
The ComfortPro videos had to be removed because of the IMPCO branding that was at the beginning of each of the videos. It was a lot of work creating, filming, and editing those videos, it was really hard hitting the delete button!
Hi Jason, might be you know how to deal with codes 3545 and 3546 Main breaker tripped and HVAC breaker1 tripped. My AC works fine, when i try to turn on HEAT its turns of after couple min. And the display shows “HVAC breaker” . APU runs fine, just heat is an issue! Any ideas?
Haalid Salis sorry ours does not have the carrier ac/heater unit. We have a roof top unit. I am going to be working with a carrier mechanic tech soon though to get some more videos out about the comfortpro.
Do you have a direct link for that belt installation tool? I've tried Googling the part number but I'm not coming up with anything that looks like the one you used. Thank you.
Can u guys tell me where can buy that twin fuel pickup tube I could not buy from the dealer they said dont have it and i dont feel they want me help out
4th Imptiness we’ve never had that problem. If the screen is not on it is most likely a power issue. I would check the plug on the back or at the battery terminal
Im having trouble with mine it will say CCU MAIN BREAKER TRIPPED how do I fix that I have had it in the shop 3 times and they say nothing is wrong. It doesnt do it all the time. I can be using it one day and the next time this will happen then it may come back on that day or A few days later. Can you help me? Or tell me who can I have had it to carrier twice and thermo king once an they tell me there is nothing wrong with it because it doesnt do it when they have it. But im sitting right now in heat and A no idle zone an it says ccu main breaker tripped
I keep getting TEMP led fault after APU shuts down. Usually when ambient is 105 F or higher. I’m wondering, is there a Thermostat in the coolant system?? Coolant level is full.
Gary Gmoney Trader if it’s tied into your engine i don’t think it has its own thermostat. Have you check out the trouble shooting in the manual? impcotechnologies.com/pdf/manuals/30-864-81e.pdf
Gary Gmoney Trader it does. I just found it. If it’s getting hot or over heating there would be three things to look at start with cheapest first. Fan belt is tight. If it’s loose or broken it’s not getting enough air to cool. Next is coolant flow. If coolant is not circulating properly it will get hot. First I would check thermostat then water pump. Third would be low or old oil. How many hours are on the unit?
Mr Crafty Trucker I believe my shop has the solution. Pull the air flow cover, that mounts to the right (outside) of the unit. The increase in airflow is dramatic. The APU pro showed me the thermostat is working perfectly by using a temperature gun.
Just change the water pump belt for Apu thermo king 2012. Your clip helped me more idea and skill in some job that we can do. I am layover in Richmond, VA. Thanks
You guys ever pull the generator out? Mines making a lot of noise, no AC and it's not the capacitor. I've heard of someone having the diodes and what not replaced in them for a lot less than a new one.
the only misinformation was that the inline filter can only go one way it doesn't have check value just. screen so it can go both ways but one way is correct
I was unplugging the battery cable, meanwhile the APU unit was starting by itself, i unplugged the battery terminal anyway meanwhile the unit already started but thirty seconds later the unit shut off, after I finished my work on my truck, I plugged all the battery terminals into the same position then I see there was no power inside the cap computer and there is no light engine in the APU power as well. Does anyone know what happened?
Jose Garza need more specifics. Tons of reason it could be doing this. Fuel gelling, clogged fuel filters, over heating, can you give any other details? When was the last time it was serviced? Last time you changed inline fuel filter
Jose Garza check out this vid. Could be your issue. ruclips.net/video/ijtQTtTBPFA/видео.html Also I would check the inline fuel filter. I have heard of many service places putting this in backward causing the APU to choke out from lack of fuel
Mine is being strange. I push the button to start it, but never starts. I go outside and I can hear the long beeeeep, then a click. No start. Just a click. After about a min of that, the display just says crank limit. It never cranked! Lol
They're bolts, not screws. And that's a Stator not an electric motor. And that's a pulley. Thanks though. Good to know. I just bought a used Western Star with a Comfortpro and it's heat is pathetic. I'll have to check the belt.
We know what they are. When talking to a camera you get a little tongue tide sometimes. Link for the manual. drive.google.com/file/d/1FoIoMgr9guJfd8TE0FfBG-cUo6Yg5qU0/view?usp=drivesdk Link for parts list drive.google.com/file/d/16ro2j07zepFg35NMGMo6jeCLuC85Mq0b/view?usp=drivesdk
Don't use those orange FRAM filters...Use a WIX or NAPA or some high quality filters. Cut open your filters when you change them as an inspection with tell you what I am saying. Also it tells you by what is filter out...what is going on.
The Carrier APU that I’ve got...1 year old btw.....is the biggest most expensive piece of crap I’ve ever purchased and they don’t stand behind them unless they are draining your wallet. They know it’s junk too. They absolutely know that their product is garbage. It literally broke the second day I had it and something happens to it like clock work once a month. For those reading this comment....I had a Thermoking for 6 years....ya....did some maintenance and some parts wore out but it was 10 times the unit the Carrier Comfort Pro is. Buyer beware. I am actively searching for threads to leave this comment and warn people off these garbage units.
For God sakes man, take off the flip flops and put on some work boots of sneakers at least! Shit man, where are we? Mogadishu.. Does any car or truck dealerships let their mechanics wear flip flops to work? Fudge no! Have some standards.
goodrich g I will wear what I want when I want. I will not wear something just because you or anyone else does not agree with what I wear. They probably don’t that’s why I didn’t become a mechanic. I wear shoes when my job calls for it. Any other time I want to wear flip flops. Quite trying to force your opinion on others. Bye Felicia.

Hi, can you put up some how to videos on this apu such as oil change etc?
Absolutely fantastic. You have no idea how much help you have provided. Thanks.
Mike I. Thank you. We Love putting helpful information out there
very nice explanation of how to change the power belt on your generator ,, i have a very similar APU on my truck it works really good and is easy to service I like that belt on yours , i have never seen one like that before ,,I have a plain black belt on mine that's 3/4 in wide ,and mine has a jack screw to adjust the belt
I have one of those Rig master APUs too ,, i hated that thing with it's cranky perkins engine always refusing to start in the cold
I took it off and went through the engine ,, and have modified it to be a backup generator here at my farm ,,I removed the AC compressor and condenser and all the hardware for that and added a second generator ,, the primary 6.5 KW generator will run most everything in my house and it has a 4Kw generator that has a AC/DC inverter that effectively makes the 35 amp AC generator a 350 amp battery charger it will charge my full bank of 20 ,, 1K amp hour 12V AGM batteries ,,while at the same time providing 25K BTUs of heat to my house through heat reclamation from the exhaust and coolant and powering most of the house all at the same time
it was actually cheaper to do this than buying a standby generator that runs on propane or natural gas and most home type backup generators even the bigger ones closer towards 15 and 20KW have air cooled engines ,, i don't need a bigger generator because if i need more power i live on a farm I have several way larger generators ,, the biggest of them powered by an 8V-92 detroit 225KW it'll power a small town ,, it's a really strange machine ,, a former military generator it was originally used to run 4 gigantic AC welders for building bridges,, i inherited it from my neighbor who bought it at a surplus auction

your very welcome
You guys definitely make a good team

Love your channel! Not sure why you dont have over 100K subscribers. Makes no sense to me!
Frontier Specialized lol you are to kind. Maybe one day!!!
Hey chief Thankyou for all your videos just wondering what’s kind off oil I sure use on my apu I have a comfort pro
We like Mobil delvac 15w-40 in the summer then 10w-30 in the colder months
Good job Heather.
If you bring that fuel filter to Napa I bet they can find a compatible one.
scott k I thought so too. I tried once and they had something similar but was a little to big for the fuel line. May I just got went to a bad Napa. It was in Waco lol
Fred Garvin i May order some. We go home very little though.
Thanks for the great video Heather and Jason.
Fuel filter is an universal part at any auto parts store.
You can buy link belts from Harbor Freight for.about $30. They are manufactured by a reputable company (Accu-Link) and I think even in the USA.
God bless you and your better half. Your videos very helpful. I just fixed my heat sensor loose plug just like you said on other video. Thank you 👍🏻
Bravo Holiday Thank you! So glad we were able to help 😊
Awesome video Heather and Jason. Thank you so much for sharing safe travels.
Joe Man Thanks so much Joe
Love it wrenching with Jason, nice video
Great video..Thank you Jason and Heather.

Good job working as a team! Do you carry an extra belt for emergencies ?
Brian Mulligan I’ll buy them when it’s getting close. Once I change it I save the old as spares just in case. Since I always change before a break they will work in a pinch
Dose the APU have it's own fuel tank? Before I had to get out of trucking we had no APU
Rockin Guy it runs off of the same fuel tanks that the truck uses.
Oh ok. That's like DEF I know nothing about it

JENΩ PЯOJECT that’s what we thought at first too lol
What kind of oil do you use in these things? I need to put some oil in the one on my truck.
Clint Woodard We use 15/40 mobile delvac
@@TheCraftyTrucker thank you. My spec label says 10W-30 but I'm sure they use the same oil that's in the truck
Clint Woodard You’re welcome :)
Are there any solar panel setups for strait trucks ?
Glen Higginbotham Yes there are. We did some research a while back on it. They make a low profile type of solar panel that would mount good on top of the box. Maybe something we do in the future
Low profile of solar panel would be interesting to see..
Another great video guys, and Jason they are called sheaves or pulleys lol
Thank you Jason & Heather!! That was very interisting and you made it look very easy! Peace, Love, & Expediting!
David Smith it the power of the editing lol thank you David
thanks to the team! lol
Jason, jack of all trades!...WTG...good video, thanks..
Bill Mathies thank you, J
Right on!!! Thanks bud
On ur generator belt which way does the belt go on I notice there was an arrow point which way the belt turns is it clockwise or counterclockwise

What kind of oil this take I just bought a truck with one off does but I would like to do the oil change any advice for it
15w-40 diesel oil. You can go 10w-30 if you wanted to use a semi synthetic.
Is there a way I can get rid of the auto shutoff when I start the truck?
Hi Jason, might be you know how to deal with codes 3545 and 3546 Main breaker tripped and HVAC breaker1 tripped. My AC works fine, when i try to turn on HEAT its turns of after couple min. And the display shows “HVAC breaker” . APU runs fine, just heat is an issue! Any ideas?
The “Crafty Mechanic”
T/A Curt lol
Jason have y'all heard anything out of the expaditer boogie guy? I messaged them but they haven't responded.
Craig Petty they have been on home time. Think I seen them post a pic on Instagram they just got back out.
Thanks guys !
Can you make a video of how to recharge A/c on the comfort pro please
Haalid Salis sorry ours does not have the carrier ac/heater unit. We have a roof top unit. I am going to be working with a carrier mechanic tech soon though to get some more videos out about the comfortpro.
Hi heather
Hey can u tell me why my APU is not blowing Cold Air it blows fine but air isn't cold cold , is their away I can recharge it with freon?
Do you have the prt # for the farm spin on fuel filter
96-101-24K Filter, Fuel
Do you have a direct link for that belt installation tool? I've tried Googling the part number but I'm not coming up with anything that looks like the one you used. Thank you.
If you go to a Carrier APU dealer with that part number, (PG1040) they can get the tool for you.
SIR CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE HOOK UP FERON IN

What parts nr is for twinn fuel pick up tube?
Good info bro
Bubba LowBuck Thank you sir
What about the problem inside the cab on “LCD screen panel shutting off” to where u can’t turn the APU on?
How you get the fuel to go to the engine
So for a sleeper... is that better than a Thermo King?
Terry Coursin we think so. You get more watts with a comfortpro than a tripac. Down side is comfortpro is a lot louder than a tripac
Another great video .
Wayne Gutschmidt thank you.
Is this apu has manul prime after replacing the fuel filter?
We’ve been told you hold the start button down to prime until it starts. No rubber push pump though
We always poor fuel out of old filter into new before installing just to help it out
Thank u guys soo much
This weekend ill change the filter
Thanks again
thanks ! i did change the fuel filter and started easy the apu
thanks guys
sol hold solid red light on do u guys had something like that?
" Pulley" You're welcome 😊 hahaha just messing around thanks a lot for the video excellent information
Great stuff man
I keep getting TEMP led fault after APU shuts down.
Mr Crafty Trucker I don’t think it’s tied into the engine. Shop says it has a thermostat.
It’s a comfort pro.
Thank you
God bless you rock
Haalid Salis Thank you :)
how to check the water cooland level ...... pls thank
Since it is tied into the trucks coolant lines, you just have to make sure the truck coolant is full.
Thanks
vu Ha 👍
Just change the water pump belt for Apu thermo king 2012. Your clip helped me more idea and skill in some job that we can do. I am layover in Richmond, VA. Thanks
U are awesome, thank u
I have one in my kenworth it turns on but not blowing hot or cold air
You guys ever pull the generator out? Mines making a lot of noise, no AC and it's not the capacitor. I've heard of someone having the diodes and what not replaced in them for a lot less than a new one.
Great vid thanx bud.
jonnyortego65 Thank you, anytime
Do you guys know anyone who does videos like this for single unit Kenworth and Pete trucks
MB
Michael Bradley I follow a guy named Gordon Robertson. He does some good how to’s on trucks.
What kind of oil do you use?
Delvac 15w-40
@@modeverything9949 Thank you.
Thank u
The 10 dislikes are Carrier employees.
LOL!
the only misinformation was that the inline filter can only go one way it doesn't have check value just. screen so it can go both ways but one way is correct
More apu vids please
I was unplugging the battery cable, meanwhile the APU unit was starting by itself, i unplugged the battery terminal anyway meanwhile the unit already started but thirty seconds later the unit shut off, after I finished my work on my truck, I plugged all the battery terminals into the same position then I see there was no power inside the cap computer and there is no light engine in the APU power as well. Does anyone know what happened?
Shabbir Jafri breaker or fuse would be my first things to look at.
My AP keeps shutting down any ideas!
Jose Garza need more specifics. Tons of reason it could be doing this. Fuel gelling, clogged fuel filters, over heating, can you give any other details? When was the last time it was serviced? Last time you changed inline fuel filter
That's my problem I have taken it to get serviced and charged the big bucks, works day maybe two then shuts down.
Jose Garza check out this vid. Could be your issue.
ruclips.net/video/ijtQTtTBPFA/видео.html
Also I would check the inline fuel filter. I have heard of many service places putting this in backward causing the APU to choke out from lack of fuel
Thanks for answering my questions I also have another question, my unit doesn't put out hot air for heating purposes. Really runs me batty 🤐
Jose Garza is the fan not blowing or just not blowing hot air?
your Handy Dandy Andy (from the Amos 'n Andy show, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amos_%27n%27_Andy )
Mine is being strange. I push the button to start it, but never starts. I go outside and I can hear the long beeeeep, then a click. No start. Just a click. After about a min of that, the display just says crank limit. It never cranked! Lol
part number can not find PG1040
✌ 💚 🚚
Well, lookie here who popped up first when I searched for repair info.. lol
Hahaha these videos will stand the test of times. They weren’t go viral videos but they keep helping. Hope it helped you
@@TheCraftyTrucker it helped. Except finding filters..

You’ll need google drive app to save them. Good luck with your new truck.
Ooh, just what I wanted for Christmas! How did you know? 😁
Don't use those orange FRAM filters...Use a WIX or NAPA or some high quality filters. Cut open your filters when you change them as an inspection with tell you what I am saying. Also it tells you by what is filter out...what is going on.
Davy Jones I’ve heard bad stories about Fram. Only the best for our money maker. I’ll try that next time I do an oil change
Sorry you had a bad experience with yours Wade.
U like her long arms lol
😂
I'm sorry but way too much complex and hard work for me.
Fred Garvin you are wrong because I am on the road.
Liam Harrison it’s really easier than it looks.
