You'd have a point if they were real cricket balls and atleast bowled towards his pads. Everything is outside off and these are sponge balls. You dont even need a helmet or thigh pads to face these balls.
This kid just hit 86 not out as an opener in the Australia under 17 XI team against Tasmania yesterday, at the age of 15. The lad is going to be a superstar.
You can even attack, comes with practice, practice the same pace with a tennis ball maybe with good chest protector pads (they are available in some stores) and practice the bouncers thrice a week, you'll grow better quicker than you think (that's how I have made it to State team)
Fast forward to present times. The comments that bagged this kid. Haven't they aged well. He's now 17 playing for Australia opening the batting at the current under 19s world cup. Has scores of .. 86 not out . 6 out .. 101 not out and 78 I think it was. The semi final to come tonight. He'll be the next opening batsman for Australia mens side soon.

People will always give grief about bowling machines. Setting up half volleys outside off you pretty much are waiting for it and it is not hard to face. Played to a high level back in the day. Represented National U17, pro'd out in Australia and faced these set machines regularly and it is not as scary as it sounds. However random bowling at this speed - short, swing, yorkers bouncers etc is a whole different gravy. It really is terrifying. THis lad looks like he is gonna be a great cricketer when he is 19/20
he will be a professional soon, anyone facing this pace will have no trouble facing other professionals and when he gets an international coach helping him, his technique which is apparently 'poor' will be fixed
i doubt very much international level as youth from sri lanka could smash these and still not good enough for a proper team as spin balls is what many international coaches scout for.
I don’t think batting technique is really very important I mean you do have to adjust your technique to face different balls yes but overall i think batting technique should be something that is natural Like sehwag didn’t use his feet at all against fast bowlers Steven smith and chandrapaul have really very weird batting style

Its tougher to face machine bowl 100mph than to face bowler. Any seasoned cricketer can pick the length of the ball as soon as it is released and can guess if its short or full. But in machine you have to wait more to know where it will pitch. Good job buddy.

He has a very good trigger movement which helps him judge the bowl quickly a bit like ab deviliers
