To all of you trying different appliances most of them are copies of Biobloc Stage 1 appliance. However as far as I can see none of them have all the advantages of the Stage 1 and many of them have big flaws. Prof John Mew,

No need for appliances, I expanded my palate from 6 teeth when smilling to 10 and a half teeth after the age of 21, all while mouth breathing during the night, because of leaky gut.
The tongue, together with the masseters are very powerful.
And there's hope for everyone, any age.
Correct "Mewing" or tongue posture, with regular mckenzie chin tucking+ inter oral face pulling and especially on a raw diet, corrects nearly any maloclussion.
Eating raw meat keeps the Growth hormone levels as high, as when an individual was a child.
Teach me your ways. No literally. I am going to start mewing, chin tucking, and inter oral face pulling. I want to document everything to show evidence that this is physically possible. I just need some sort of guidance and support.

Dr Mew thank you for this video. What are your thoughts on the VIvos appliance? And the Myobrace system. As i understand Vivos works on both the upper and lower and the rate of expansion can be adjusted to be very slow to allow for new growth. When combined with Myofunctional exercises, Myomunchee and bodywork/posture/functional work.
I would love an appliance but I’m not in the UK, but across the pond in the Netherlands. Is there a way?
What about the Alf appliance? Does that not work by expanding using spring force? But at the same time aligning the cranial bones to correct any facial asymmetry? Also it works gently, it is not rapid expansion, it does not expand by breaking the palatal suture, but instead expands the palatal bone. Different expansion methods maybe suited to different needs. What are your thoughts Dr Mew on this?

I gained quite some space on my upper palate, however my right upper jaw is now a little bit too wide for my lower jaw, and I was wondering if and if yes, when, will my lower jaw follow the upper ?

I believe the MSE to be unnecessarily traumatic. Also it usually requires finishing with fixed appliances which are costly and do more damage and does little to improve the shape of the vault. Prof John Mew
I’m 29 and she does orthotropic as well but didn’t think Biobloc was right for me. I have traditional expanders. What are your thoughts on traditional expanders.

So currently I've got braces and I'm in the early stage of it, I was wondering since I have braces on I can't eat hard foods right so I have to eat soft foods, otherwise the braces might break, would this have any negative impact on my teeth if I eat soft foods?? Like will my lower jaw get weaker?? And if so how do I avoid this??
Ive had braces for about 3 years i eat hard foods and my braces have never broken. so don't worry about your braces breaking

what if we use MSE appliance and expand with semi rapid rate ? MSE + SEMI RAPID RATE ? will it be better because it will put direct force on the suture allowing better split ?
Splitting the suture is damaging you should soften the suture first. Prof John Mew

@@johnmew9980 thx for the reply doc , the thing is , its very hard to get biobloc in my locality since im not an orthodontist . i thought of getting mse but after knowing it may damage my suture i was a bit hesitant . I may not inform my ortho the rate im expanding since he may not allow it . i also cannot visit england due to money restrictions . will it be wise to just get the MSE expander from ortho and expand at semi rapid rate without his knowing ?
@@Karmik_bhavya That might be a wise approach, but make sure you open the screw at the correct rate every day and that the appliance is really firm. If you can click it up and down with your tongue it will not work and it MUST clip on to a middle not a back tooth. Prof John Mew.

@@luke14946 thanks for letting me know. I believe that the son Mew didnt seem to be against it (and including the ALF appliance) in a video with Jaw Hacks. so it seems like the Mew's are not always on the same page .

@@Jeffersonokay While I'm not yet at that step, my understanding is that the arms will be removed once the expansion is done, with the screws/expander left in, in order for the new bone growth to take place and set. My guess is it'll probably stay in even once I get the braces to ensure it sets properly. Once the bone properly sets, that's the point at which it'll be removed.

@@Jeffersonokay I'm definitely speaking out of my lane here, but I think re-narrowing is more possible if the expansion was purely tooth-related, without actual new bone forming, as opposed to MSE helping to create new bone that shouldn't be going anywhere, especially with proper tongue posture. I did have Invisalign prior to this, and when I look at the start, finish, and current, I did notice some slight re-narrowing of things. It's possible that Ron from Jawhacks may go more into this, but yeah, I think re-narrowing should be of minimal concern when it's a bone-born appliance, followed with correct tongue posture.
What's the point of expanding a person that owns a narrow palate. Won't it just relapse? If their palate is narrow it's proof that they aren't using their muscles correctly and haven't had good posture throughout their lives.
What I'm trying to say is that even though they have the space, won't the person just be likely to fuck their face up even more now that there's more space and the incorrect uses of their tongue etc isn't used to it. Same with kids no?
I'm 19 and I thought if I expanded my palate on the more narrow side of my asymmetrical palate that I'd be able to mew. But fact is If I cant mew now, I'm not gonna be able to later either. For me personally - it's impossible. Guess that's just because of my occlusion. Deepbite or whatever. Impossible.
There are retainers you can wear ex once per week after treatments and apparently that's enough to keep the expansion if you're worried about relapse. I'm currently doing expansion with a schwarz and crozat. I'm not sure if I would relapse but I would still wear the retainer just to be safe and a lot of hi clients years after are still doing great. From there id say look into a myofunctional therapist to help with tongue position or assess if you have a tongue tie. Hope that helps 🙂
@@CelindaBelle i have 32 intermolar. id like to think i could get good change with my tongue and posture alone without having to spend on an appliance... confused because many say the toothborne appliances are not good for adults, like ron ead said. also i likely have tmj and my jaw maybe too far back but do i really need to spend money on an orthotic? can i fix this stuff with myo therpy and tongue revision alone, i have a posterior tongue tie ....
@@kaseyyrenae I understand and I tried to hope the same before too. But I rly didn't have space for my tongue and once everything started to expand, my tongue started to reach the top so much more easily. I rly don't think I would have been able to make any changes without the appliances. It's worth seeing a tongue tie specialist for them to see if you actually have space to begin with to release the tongue and go from there. If there's no space for the tongue, then expansion is important, but if you get the tongue tie released and you have sufficient space, you might be able to get some benefits. But on the contrary, if you really sit tongue tie and you aren't able to reach the pallet properly, still you could just create another problem. That's why my tongue tie specialist advise me to do the expansion for us before considering a release. Hope this helps. And yes I know it does suck to spend money on appliances but if you factor in how much you could be saving in the long run from taking care of your teeth, it can sit a bit better. Also most places I presume do some form of payment plan too. Wishing you all the best 🙏
@@CelindaBelle i have been hearing shwartz or tooth borne appliances only cause teeth tipping in adults and no actual maxilla expansion so i am pretty confused lol. and just learned about MSE and EASE. do you think an otc night guard is good enough or should someone get orthotic therapy if one has tmj stuff? not sure if thats worth spending on, besides the expansion stuff. either way i know it depends on the case but it appears even a tie can cause tmj issues alone
