If you would like the title of this 12-bar blues, it is 'Wee Midnight Hours', as recorded by Blind Willie McTell and Curley Weaver in 1950. However, it dates back in its original form to Leroy Carr, who recorded 'Midnight Hour Blues' in 1932. (See the excellent comment by reprobatemind below.) Tuba Skinny impressively keep the original key of E. I guess most jazz bands would make it easier for themselves by playing it in F.
It was in the wee midnight hours, long just about the break of day, of day, of day It was in the wee midnight hours, long just about the break of day, of day, of day Say when them blues creep down on you and carry your mind away, away, away Tell me blues why do you worry, why do you stay with me so long, so long, so long Blues why do you worry, why do you stay with me so long, so long, so long You came to me yesterday and stay with me all night long, so long, so long Now has your mind been a-rambling back to those days of long ago, ago, ago Has your mind been a-rambling back to those days of long ago, ago, ago Back to the one that you love but you don't worry no more, no more, no more I went down to the graveyard fell down on my knees, my bended knees I went down to the graveyard fell down on my knees, my knees, my knees I asked the Good Lord above give me back my rider please, Lord have mercy on me
After Erika and Greg's a capella duet was complet and they melded back into the band - I cried. I don't think any music or performance's done that to me quite like that before.
I love the pleasure these guys give to and inspire in the dancers. I was spellbound by the couple of women on the right, having a good time, and really feeling it. Makes you wish you were there.
Rarely ever to see such unselfishness among such talented artists who obviously respect one another and thoroughly enjoy what the sum of their notes produces; for themselves and those listening. They seemingly simply DON'T take themselves too seriously.
@@jackjeannettewalker7868 I absolutely agree, their selflessness and respect for one another can be seen in their demeanour and heard in their beautiful music.
I can't agree more. You see Shay say something to him after he is done. I imagine it was something that reflects all our opinions in this comment section.
A new number to me, but hard to imagine it done better. Thank you all for playing, the dancers for dancing, Pierre for posting, the great French audience and Pops for the added stuff. What a joy.
What a lovely performance! TS made a lot of people happy with that, especially those 4 ladies dancing so gracefully. Look at their smiling faces and how the couple on the far left embrace at the end, Blues didn't creep on them. Just beautiful. Love that clarinet solo, amazing. Thank you, TS!!
It is a beautiful arrangement and the musicianship is superb. The clarinet solo is particularly beautiful as you noted. If you look at Shaye just after that solo it appears that she thanks him for his wonderful solo
@anticala I don't no. But it is the same as you heard or See something what you like and then your skin and your hair on your arm 'erect'. We call it goosebumps. Use google translate.
Ich liebe dieses Stück, ich liebe diese Band, ich liebe Erika, ich liebe Greg und natürlich Shane, die großartige Shane. Ich liebe Euch alle. I love this piece, I love this band, I love Erika, I love Greg and of course Shane, the great Shane. I love you all.
How lucky were Frenchies who were able to attend one of the concerts of the Tuba Skinny tour in France last May. Unfortunately, my health did not allow it and I was very frustrated. Fortunately, there are these wonderful videos on RUclips, recorded in France and elsewhere! This blues interpreted with the heart - like all the pieces of TS - particularly moves me! Thanks a lot.
Parabéns Shaye Cohn. Parabéns Tuba Skinny. Vocês alegram nossas vidas. Nos dão novo ânimo de viver. Deus os abençoe grandemente pelo seu trabalho.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I am so proud of this band! And look at them signing their autographs! All their hard work is paying off. I found them right here on RUclips and have bought every cd they’ve ever made. Very high quality jazz from right there in NOLA.
Tuba Skinny, for me the best traditional Dixieland Band from New Orleans (or from the world ??) with the famous ladies Shaye Cohn and Erika Lewis 👏👏🎺🎺🇩🇪❤️🇺🇸❗️
Super band! Part of magic is the beauty of the chords. Many bands miss this by trying to race to the end of the piece. SK does everything right! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!
Merci à vous d avoir filmer ces superbes moments. Nous avons vraiment de la chance de suivre Tuba Skinny dans leur tournée grâce à vous et quelques autres. (En plus des dizaines de vidéos chez eux à la Nouvelle Orleans). Superbe moment 👍👍👍
Tuba Skinny. Always such a pleasure to watch and listen to. I have to wonder, though, if the band invited the audience to dance in front of the stage. I doubt it. After all, it appears to be a theater arrangement. Had I been in that audience I would not have been particularly happy. I've seen this happen before and I find it highly inconsiderate of people who interject themselves into the program and start dancing in front of the stage. It's not a dance floor. The audience came to see the bands performance, not yours. Do everyone else a solid, enjoy the program as intended and stay in your seats. Now pardon me as I jump off the soapbox.

It’s actually credited to Leroy Carr who recorded it with Scrapper Blackwell as Midnight Hour Blues in March of 1932.
Thanks so much for this further piece of information.
When an instrumentalist has attained that level, keys don't matter. It becomes like singing. Singers just sing. Players just play.

I could listen to Tuba Skinny 24/7 if I didn’t need a little sleep now and then! ❤️❤️❤️this extremely talented group of musicians!
Tuba Skinny is the greatest Jazz Band.....................Ever!!!!!

2021 new years TV was terrible. I watched this song instead. Tuba Skinny should have been on Nationwide TV. They are the best!!!!!
I repeat myself, and I still can't explain it, but when I see Shaye Cohn smile, it makes me so happy. Thanks.
She is the granddaughter of the late Al Cohn (Zoot Sims and Al Cohn) but she never heard him play,
What a wonderful band. I listen every evening. No other band comes even close. Erika and Greg represent a perfect duo
Me too...addicted in a good way 👍🤗
It's come to a point where I end up watching this performance a few times every night.....everything's just perfect about this.
Wow! More duets by Greg and Erika, please! What a sound!
Absolutely marvellous. The whole band compliment each other so brilliantly. True masters everyone.
I owe you all so much.
The tuba player is awesome in this tune, the entire group is awesome.
I love the pleasure these guys give to and inspire in the dancers. I was spellbound by the couple of women on the right, having a good time, and really feeling it. Makes you wish you were there.
Yes. Those two were enjoying the moment. And the blond-haired lady was captivating.
These musicians have a very special gift. They never fail to uplift me when I feel tired.

Thank you for this wonderful recording! This song always brings tears of joy, Greg and Erica sing so beautifully together!
The best use of RUclips, to capture the atmosphere of this great band at a live concert. What an audience reaction!
I've watched this great band perform dozens of songs over the last couple of years, but I think that was the best. Perfect!
It doesn't get much better than this!
What an awesome performance from start to finish! The quality of this group just keeps getting better and better.

Tuba Skinny at their very best .
Gotta dig the versatility displayed here by this band. Real nice solo by Shaye, and also by Craig "Woody Allen" Flory (please forgive me, Craig).
