Corey Taylor: 50% Angsty songwriter, 50% emotional singer, 100% Neck.
Best comment i've ever heard about Corey XD
COREY THE NECK TAYLOR
N E C C
200%
So his total is 200%
This song was originally about an ex he had. But after his friend from his band died, he dedicated the song to him. The reason he asks people to help him out is that there is so many times that he just loses it and breaks down mid song, and the crow keeps singing while he is having his breakdown. He knows his fans feel the pain as well... We all miss Paul so much..... and we all cry during the song as well. We all help each other through. Just a bit of background.
But that neck....I can't stop looking at his NECK!!!!!!
Yeah. This song has taken even more emotional meaning over the years its kind of a rare thing.
💯🤘🏻👊🏻
Also he dedicated it to Paul because Paul really pushed Corey to put that song on the album because of how much he liked it
Is this really true? Wow i never believed it was initially meant for a lover from a writer's perspective even though i was compelled to think so due to the lyrics
But for real though, how many times have you listened to a song like this and it's sparked a philosophical deep dive into the meaning of life and love....
Hello ma'am i am sorry to bother you and i look forward to watching your video. I was just wondering if i may recommend a song to react to?
In reference to your comment, yes whenever i listen to a really deep song i always go into such a deep spiral of contemplation on literally every life decision and emotion. It's a bit of a wonky journey.
@@jackiethejoker506 sure... what's your suggestion :)
@@jvoxfox Black by Pearl Jam the MTV Unplugged version if that is alright you dont have to obviously it is just a good song with deep meaning and good vocals i think but you are the professional. Thank you for letting me make a suggestion
In my opinion this is the best lyrical Masterpiece ever written
Corey is a God
OMG I watched this again last night and it made me think ‘You should so do a reaction to this song’ and well ... here it is 😃 I wonder if what I watch next will magically appear on your channel 🤣
Corey has more talent in his neck than many bands have as a whole.
Corey has more neck than many bands have as a whole
George Fisher: Am I a joke to you!?
Don't bring others down in order to compliment someone
fair facts.
@@wooshbait36*whoosh* 🤦🏻
And then this man who has us all up in our feels goes ahead and sings the spongebob square pants theme in the same set.
Are you ready kids?
Aye-aye captain.
He had to, is a heavy song.
Gotta decompress some how
the spongebob squarepants theme song IS what gets me up in my feels lol
The vulnerability of singing can convey such deep emotion. I’m in awe.
100% :)
Pleease react to Faouzia - Tears of Gold (stripped version in studio)
I'm in awe of you. You are gorgeous. 😍😍
@@jvoxfox can you react to chuck schuldiner please? from the band death, the flesh and the power it holds?
if you haven't yet you should watch some Chris Stapleton!
The catch in his voice on "That I could hurt you in the end" gets me every time.
I hadn't seen your comment, but just said the same thing. It really shows the pain
That's what makes the whole atmosphere of the song for me
"spit your pity in my soul" is heart wrenching, the emotion he's holding back causing just shy of a crack in his voice and the slight warble is the point in the song, for me, you truly see the depth of pain and the conflicting emotions.
When you can see the tears in his eyes, and he steps back so not to cry. That kills me everytime.
He very nearly loses it on that line. Absolutely heartbreaking. I can't listen to this track without tears welling up in my eyes. Brilliant performance.
“It took the death of hope to let you go” this one gets me every time
"It took the death of hope to let you go"
that line always gets me.
"The air around me still feels like a cage" or "you sold me out to save yourself " are the lines that always get me
This and Jonny Cash's version of Hurt always get me.
It's the same formula: There's no crazy vibrato, no great range, no flashy technique. Just feel, great lyrics and emotion.
I am still partial to NIN original. But Mr. Cash really did one hell of a job covering it! All other covers of Hurt fall flat. Mr. Cash really felt the song and the emotions of his wife really helped push the sound during his performance.
Same!. two songs that always get me and I feel every word .. I have a love / hate with both songs. Both truly amazing songs
Should do a reaction to Badflower "promises "
Yeah man, it's up there
This song always hits me in the feels. Especially as it took on a different meaning after Paul's death
When corey got the tattoo of paul he just let go was emotional as hell... this and the tattoo episode damn never cried for like that. Since my friend passed...
Rip #2
I listened to "Snuff" over 400 times in 2018 when I went through my divorce. This performance STILL brings me to a blubbering mess of tears to this day, the emotions still as raw and savage as the day she left. Every single line has so much meaning, personally. It IS a song about despair, heartbreak, anger at yourself, being unable to hate the one who damaged you so badly, and surprisingly, a hint of self-respect and moving on at the end. This song so perfectly encapsulated the entirety of my divorce in a way that I could never have hoped for, and I'll forever be grateful to Corey and Slipknot for writing it, and to you for so fully grasping the importance and emotionality of it.
Hope you're in a better/happier place now fella....👊🙏
Exact same thing here. Perfect response.
Twas a great divorce song for me as well.
The song, iirc, originally was about a past relationship Corey was in. However, it was the last song he and Slipknot bassist, Paul Gray, worked on together (released on Slipknot's "All Hope is Gone" album in '08). Paul Gray died less than 2yrs after the album's release so there's a double emotional pull for Corey. The original reason for the song's lyrics and then it being the last piece of music he worked on with a guy that was as a brother to him.
U forgot to mentioned that Paul killed himself, that's where the anger come from. Corey said that he was "mad" when he find out about it, because he left them.
@@_pavel_9921 Paul did not kill himself. He had a heart condition and the doctor he had seen while away from home for some medication did not bother to look into interactions of his other drugs when he gave him the prescription, the two drugs together caused the fatal interaction and due to being alone he had no one to help him.
@@_pavel_9921 Paul Gray died from Heart Failure....
Also worth noting how involved Paul was in writing the instrumental part for the song with Corey. I recall an interview where Corey had not known they had finished writing and recording the instrumental part outside his knowledge and then being shown and listening to it broke down due to how much passion they put in it for him
@@_pavel_9921 That is not true
This song gets me every time.
"I only wish you weren't my friend, then I could hurt you in the end."
That and 'angels lie to keep control' get me every time
Omg yes 😭😭😭❤️💔❤️💔 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Corey Taylor: half destructive force of nature, half beautiful and damaged soul. A magical combination, his lyrics have always hit different.
man you are not kidding there! Slipknot is fantastic in concert! i've yet to see Stone Sour, but i def would in a heart beat!
Corey Taylor in my eyes is like a pit bull. Tough and strong exterior, tender and loving interior
You forgot also half neck
He originally wrote this about his ex wife, but a few years later his bass player and close friend, Paul gray died of a drug overdose, Corey says this song became about paul.
This also became to be one of the last songs him and Paul worked on together.
why did you have to make me cry, this one gets me everytime.
now you really have to check out alter bridge. "blackbird" and "words darker than their wings" (both live performances)
I love Blackbird! Alter Bridge is one of my favorite bands and Blackbird is my favorite song from them!
There are so many songs from Alter Bridge that would be worthy of a video. I definitely agree with Blackbird, and would also suggest the Wonderful Life/ Watch Over You medley from their performance with the Parallax Orchestra
Yeah! Plz! Do blackbird the next video!
“Blackbird” is a song that literally has me openly sobbing by the last chorus.
@@TheComicBookJoker Yeah, I cried when I saw them play it live. Amazing song and amazing band!
Ten years ago: "Wow, this is such a sad song..."
Five years ago: *song tears me apart every time I put it on due to getting almost literally heartbroken*
Two years ago: *stares blankly* "I now understand."
So true
Corey looks rough, but the guy is a geniune poet.
"Angels lie to keep control" is still one of my all time favorite lines of this song.
100%
The way he looks up when he sings that knowing he's singing that part to Paul fuckin kills me every time.
If you want something less known with him: Apocalyptica - 'I'm Not Jesus' feat. Corey Taylor
The lyrics might hit even harder though
Someone recommending Apocalyptica
Either that one or Walls of Jericho feat Corey Taylor - Addicted
Or 'From Can to Can't' from the Sound City soundtrack featuring Dave Grohl, Rick Neilson and Scott Reeder.
I know its not Corey Taylor but I don't care by Apocalyptica ft. Adam Gontier (from Three Days Grace) is a great one too
Great song. One of my favourites. Dark and powerful.
That was heart-wrenching, wasn't it? Great insightful review, Julia. I don't consider myself a Slipknot fan, but this is definitely my favorite performance of Corey, mostly because I can relate to this song. At one point in our lives, some of us experienced being underappreciated, in a toxic relationship with our significant other, and up to the loss of loved ones whether it's a family member or a dear friend. Yup. Had been through those hard times.
What a difference to his appearance at Slipknot! There I heard him use the F-word eleven times in seven sentences in a short address to the audience.
YES!
Edit: As I mentioned in the chat, I believe it was initially written for the woman he was in love with. But then later the song is dedicated to his good friend/bandmate who passed away.
The deceased band member was the one who wrote it
@@Graphey_ Pretty sure Paul wrote just the instrumentation of Snuff
@@Graphey_ Corey wrote the lyrics, (about a woman he knew), but Paul and Joey did the music for it.
@@kheidal My bad, must've gotten confused

Highly recommend you check out "bother" acoustic by him live, literally the same concert
Ive got video on my RUclips video of Corey stopping this song toward the end and giving me and a mate a clap from helping him sing it.Still gives me goosebumps
Truly amazing, too, esp. with the crowd kickin' in later gives you shivers
Corey is massively underrated as a Songwriter
And singer
@@seanoreilly1832 not really he is the singer for slipknot so no way he is an underrated singer
He is one of the most famous singers and songwriters in metal and rock. I think he is appreciated enough. Still one of the GOATs
Well hes the singer and writer of one of the biggest metal groups ever :P
This stripped down live version is so much more intimate than the studio version. Both are equally good for different reasons. It’s worth a listen if you haven’t already. I think the anger is more heightened in the studio version.
[Incoming 5:30am rant]
The first few times I heard it I openly sobbed because I’d never heard anyone acknowledge the ugly side of grief and loss before. Sometimes, when it hits deep enough, you’re angry and want to lash out, and you lose yourself in that pain. Maybe the worst of it only happens in your head, maybe you take it out on yourself because you’re afraid you’ll take it out on somebody else. I found this song when the first symptoms of a debilitating mental illness were starting to develop, and as it got worse and worse, this always helped. He’s telling all of us that he knows that pain, in some form, and he’s not hiding from how bitter and resentful he became in a moment of deeply personal loss. Whatever connection you have to these lyrics, to this melody, he’s validating your pain and your struggles, whether you’re listening to it in isolation and suffering silently or you’re blasting it in your room because it’s all you can do to keep from breaking down, you know someone understood. And he wrote it down and shared it with you so you could feel a little relief.
The little catch in his voice at the "... then I could hurt you in the end" gets me every time. There is someone struggling with the emotion
The fact you were speechless throughout pretty much the whole song just speaks volumes to how amazing this is. The fact you said pretty much nothing and just listened tells me all I need to know, singing is emotion. I mean you can analyse this all you want. But really all we need to know is this song turns people into a weeping mess if they have any semblance of a soul.
Liking this 3h before it goes up because I know that it will be amazing.
The Neck is a legend no matter the genre
CMFT can't be stopped! 😁
She is so touched, has she ever heard it before? I mean it still touches me.
Bother is a good one from this gig. It has a great audience part in it.
Damn, that audience fuckin' delivered in 'Bother'!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Epic.
"You see these nipples!?" Lmao
I’ve watched it a million times and get goosebumps every damn time
The way she goes from her happy go lucky attitude to completely heartbroken in 3 minutes is a pretty good indicator of how emotional the song is..
Still brings a tear to my eye, the pain of heartbreak in every word.
I’m pretty sure Corey dedicates this song whenever he plays it live to Paul Gray, their previous bassist, since his death. Paul’s death hit him really hard.
This was the last song they wrote together i think. I could be wrong though.
I agree. The song, I'm assuming, wasn't written with Gray in mind, as I'm sure he was still alive at the time; but I guarantee he thinks of Paul every time he sings this. The way he looks up when the emotion cuts him deep, says it all.
I saw Stone Sour in Download 2010, less than a month after Paul's death. That was both a beautiful and hard set for Corey and the fans. When he sang bother.....he broke, and the crowd helped him out, with many of us breaking with him. Its a moment I'll never forget, to share in his pain like that 💔
i believe it was paul’s favorite song on the album. it hurts corey so much because not only did he lose someone before paul, but then he lost his brother, his guardian angel paul grey. i’ve lost close people, but i still can only imagine his pain
@@vickyjones6873 I was at download that year and watched stonesour too, crowd was absolutely supportive chanting Paul gray and helping him out. Legendary performance that year
The end of love is betrayal. Nothing hurts more than *true* heartache; nothing even comes remotely close. True heartache changes one fundamentally, and you lose a part of yourself you can't ever truly reclaim. I adore the song, but I can hardly listen to it - it simply provokes too much in me.
So true. I had one true love and after almost 2 years of dating and being each other's best friends and being engaged u see her walking out of the mall very close to another man. Long story short she left me for him and started drinking with him and a month or two later she stops at my apartment crying her eyes out just for me to find out that he punched her in a drunken rage. Part of me was like f this deal with it. But because I'm a nice guy I was there for her. Once again long story short it didn't work out between us and she found another guy that wanted to drink with her all the time. It hurt so bad, she was my best friend and then to see her fall for assholes it hurt. By no means am I perfect nobody is but I always loved and cared for her. Everytime I heard snuff the lyrics really hit home. I'm over it now but losing a true love can really hurt. Now I'm single and happy doing what I wanna do when I wanna do it.

@@haggard21077 Chin up brother, that's like a dagger to the heart. If she had certain vices like drinking to begin with, it's best to steer clear from the very beginning. People hardly ever change, not on a core level.
Well said.
The lyric for me is "it took the death of hope to let you go" that's when you know it's over, it's done, there won't be anymore, the final knife in the chest.
Here we go again. Hello tears, welcome back.
If you want to hear how brutal he can be and how quick he can switch his style, devil in I live by slipknot is extremely impressive
Beyond hyped for this ! Coreys vocals are on a league of its own, the duality between his growls to clean vocals is insane, whether it's Slipknot or Stone Sour !

Absolutely! Would be sick if she reacted to some on their songs
Miracles, Imperfect & Hesitate all 3 are very emotional
@@heavysoul4862 theres also bother and xyzzy road. Bother specifically is a very emotional song but both are good songs lyrically to me.
If you haven't done "Pearl Jam - Black live at MTV Unplugged" I highly recommend you react to that one. An incredible extremely emotional vocal performance!
I recommend "Sound City Soundtrack - From Can to Can't". Corey is an amazing singer, and I often think he's still under-rated. He's got an amazing fan base of course, but I don't think many people really know how well he can sing.
the fact he sings this song still without regretting showing his true self when he breaks down mid song makes it so wonderfull
Apocalyptica - I'm not jesus ft. Corey taylor
Prepare for this well
I first listened to this song at my worst part of my life. I deeply connected to this song
You know that it's a well written song, when your vocal profession takes a back seat to your emotions. Great reaction
literally one of my favourite ever songs and hits me in the feels every time i listen to it! Corey Taylor is a vocal god! Its amazing the range in his voice and the screamy bits he does for slipknot then he can still sing like this its crazy
Now you should do Slipknot "spit it out" live at download 2009, to see his crowd control.
Download 2013 now that was a good set by slipknot
the strength of the guitar playing adds another element. the more emotional the lyric is the stronger he plays is just amazing. the first time I heard this song I felt it and got ready eyed for him and I’m a grown man
teary
The one that gets me is, "I only wish you weren't my friend, then I could hurt you in the end" -- like you want to be petty and hurt them like you were hurt, but you can't... because you love and care about them so much. It's been 8 years, she's moved on, and I barely can keep going sometimes.
But the way he looked up when he sang this line, and barely got the word "hurt" out. You know he was thinking of Paul. 😥
The only thing that will save you is having a mission and purpose. For you and no one else. Find one that means something to you and dive the fuck into it. The right people will come along on their own in the process.
this song brings me so close to tears every time , it hits so close to home
"Black - Pearl jam" mtv unplugged version ofc
This. This is why you're now on top of all the musical react channel for me. It took me awhile to listen to that song, mostly because it was branded as a Slipknot song, which I always identified as "not being my style". That song shook me to my core when I finally listened to it. The acoustic version is so raw...if you don't feel anything while listening to Corey singing that, you're dead inside.
David Draimen, Floor Jansen, Johnny Cash, Corey Taylor are all proof that the best singers are found outside of the mainstream, there are many others I could probably list as well
Hear, hear! 🤘
Waylon Jennings
Even, Ozzy and Lemmy
Lzzy Hale!
I haven’t listened to this song for a couple years and it still wrenched my heart just as hard...
Great reaction to one of my favourite songs of all time. Touches me on a very deep level. I think that everyone can feel a resonance with the lyrics in some form or another.
The line that gets me most is
"if you still care don't ever let me know" always brings a lump to my throat.
“Bittersweet” is the BEST word used to describe this song ... the heartbreak behind this song ended up being such success
This song touches people in _various_ ways.
Man, I've been waiting for this
Bro, same. Corey Taylor is literally my idol for distortion singing. And this song means so much to me.
Love me some Corey as well. I find myself singing in similar style as him just because his voice finds me
I absolutely LOVE this song. It deeply touched me, to see her emotions, while she was listening to it. Look at her face! She nearly cried. (Did I mention, how beautiful she is? Just btw.) WOW! It hit very hard. Same to me. Thanks for your video, lady🙂💫❤️ Best wishes from Germany
The backstory is he was in a relationship with someone who he thought were there for eachother, she dumped all her problems on him and he helped her, but when time came for him, she left.
That was Paul’s (Slipknot bassist) favorite new song. After he passed away, it’s always been close to Corey.
I just got into Cory Taylor's acoustic music. And I can't get enough. I just learned how to play this song. Tired, and bother acqustic are a must. Peace from Stan the Alaskan. Snuff is a slipknot song the video is deep.
Bother is suuuuch a good song
You added a lot with your reaction. The most of it without words
The song is hard for Corey because it was a already emotional track to begin with, but, a band mate from Slipknot passed and this was that person's favorite song Corey wrote. It is a 1-2 punch for him to perform.
Im really happy that you could see the emotion that really makes snuff as good as it is. You should also listen to the other songs from this set its called live in London I belive
Corey wrote this song about a person who helped him through a lot but in the end that person let him down.
And it's also the last song before Paul Grey ( Slipknot bassist ) died.
That's why he is so emotional while singing this song.
I believe he's said that a lot of the lyrics have taken on a different meaning since Paul died, such as, "I only wish you werent my friend, then I could hurt you in the end" I think hes so emotional with this on because it almost speaks to that anger you feel when you lose someone and you have nowhere to direct it.
Couldn't put this song on for months without sobbing after a awful breakup last year. Some people you just can't forget, can't choose to let go. You love her so much but in the end she didn't love you enough to stay. And yeah, I know every word and pause in this song by soul.
I will genuinely never get over the intense pain in Corey’s face. It holds so much anguish and emotion. It makes me genuinely cry every time
Corey taylor truely is a master of lyrics and has phenomenal ability when it comes to expressing emotion with his vocals, the entire song really resonates with me but the lyrics that properly hit hard first was- Bury all your secrets in my skin, come away with innocence and leave me with my sins 🖤
Another amazing raw sounding song you should listen to is a cover of Hey hey my my- Axel Rudi Pell (Neil young did original) you could even do a double reaction to both of them which would be so cool and really interesting, especially for seeing your take on 2x versions of the same song! 😄🤘🏻🎼
This song brings me to tears every time I hear it. And considering the timing of this performance, his emotions were right on the edge having just recently just lost a very dear friend.
Can't promise I'll make it through this video but I came here to like and give you a view because you deserve it.
Still as hard to listen to as when I first heard this song. But I made it. FML.
3:05 When Corey gets a little choked up on the "that I could *hurt* you in the end" it gets me every time, just catch myself staring off into space. 5:23 You can feel his whimper. RIP Paul.
The most emotional part is when his voice almost disappeared as he says " then I could hurt you in the end".
I bet a year ago Julia never thought she'd be listening to a Slipknot song... and loving it. ;-)
Hey, stumbled upon your channel kinda by accident but thoroughly enjoying the insight and analysis - keep up the good work!
"it took the death of hope to let you go" is the line that hits me most.
More Corey Taylor, preferably in Slipknot, but you should check out his "mirror image" band Stone Sour . Through Glass is their go to song.
That line is what got me over my ex wife when we were separated. Having hope in any positive thing she said. Having hope was hurting me.
Every vocal coach should show this reaction to their students. The key to music is extremely simple. Can you take a person out of their planned journey and on a completely different journey. You watched to critique and teach and instead you got lost in the music. Exactly what any musician should strive for. A completely basic technique took you on an unbelievable journey. That’s what separates good from great.
I cant listen to this song without almost breaking down. I dont know his pain, the full story, but I feel every word. Im so in love with these lyrics and how they're written.. Just amazing!
The song is originally about an ex he had but he and the former bassist Paul grey of slipknot they both worked on it and he pushed Corey to put it on the album and he died not long after and the song was always dedicated to Paul grey I can’t listen to it without crying rip Paul
This song just wrecks me. Every...single...time
Corey said that he had originally written about someone who he loved but then she let him down. But after Slipknot bassist Paul Grey passed away in 2K10, he dedicates this song to him
Fuck yes🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 best song ever performed by the best vocalist ever.
I’m so very happy that you didn’t try to take a musically analytical approach to this song. You picked up exactly what he was trying to convey and you saw the art of his lyrics. His ability to make you feel is so rare.
Snuff and vermillion Pt 2 always hits different for me.
Ugh this song gets me every time. I love the studio version too, but this live version shows so much emotion it's incredible.
Yessss, this is one of my all time favourite Slipknot songs, this version is the best one IMO
This is one of those songs, that messes with my emotions, every time I hear it. Now for total transparency, I will say that I grew up in Des Moines, and knew Corey a little bit back in the day. And in my adult years, I've worked at several music venues, and also did radio as a DJ, so I had the opportunity to hang out with him, then. I'm sure that colors my opinions just a little bit. But having said that, I can't think of any one, if they are actually listening to the lyrics, that this song won't affect. Everyone has been in this situation. You've had your heart ripped out by someone you still care deeply for, you feel like they've stomped on it, rubbed it in dog sh*t, and then threw it in a food processor and just ground it to nothing. And you feel like you're never, ever, going to get away from that feeling. And this song, in my opinion, is a person that is in the deepest depths of that feeling. Life will never ever be the same, I will never be able to move on. And if I could find a hole to drop myself in and pull it closed over me, I would do it in a heartbeat. That is the worst feeling in the world. So, there's my 2 cents. Take it, for what it's worth.
The song that really tears me up is Daddy by Korn
that one guy in the crowd always shouting to support him is a real hero ngl
RIP Paul
and you should check out more songs from his London show. Its amazing. “Spit It Out” is my fave but others showcase his singing better
This version of snuff makes me tear up every single time. The emotion in his face and voice coupled with where the song takes me in my past and present. It's truley an amazing performance that he hasn't been able to replicate imo. Great reaction here too. Probably my favorite. Broken down very very detailed. Well done
Here's what Corey had to say on the lyrics.
"This is the slow one. It's another personal one. Again, not naming names, it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. At the same time, it was good that she did, because it was that final push to me figuring out myself. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory." - Corey Taylor
I've watched other vocal coach reacts but you're the only channel that has me subbed one both my accounts, you're always so genuine, educated, informed and you seem to give a shit about the video you're watching, whereas a lot of react channels just go through the motions. Thanks for what you do Julia, you're the best in your field in my opinion. Keep kicking ass and the more metal or rock the better! (imo)
you should react to Avenged sevenfolds tribute to their late drummer Jimmy "the rev" Sullivan, its amazing vocals, The song is called "so far away"
The crowd really was great in this. They actually knew how to sing and fit things into the song. Like at 2:34 I don't think that was an intentional echo, like it does on the record version, but I think that was a guy in the crowd who knew when to echo it and got the melody right. That was honestly really satisfying to hear. And also at 5:19. Usually crowds aren't this knowledgeable or able and it's really refreshing to hear things like this.
Waited for this so so long. This performance touches your soul.
You should definitely react to "Black" by "Pearl Jam", but make sure that you do the MTV Live version. You want emotion?..well there it is! You're welcome in advance :)
Julia, please react to Halestorm - "Love Bites (So Do I)" captured in The Live Room. It's a live performance and has great female rock vocals!
This tops my list of songs to play when I want to cry.
When he starts getting visibly emotional it gets me every time. Will forever love this song
