I finally, after years of watching Garand Thumb, Lucas and countless other gun RUclipsrs rave about LPVOs bought my first one just a couple months ago. 30 seconds later the entire Internet has decided LPVOs are trash…
competetion shooters still vastly prefer lpvo and special forces are just now widely rolling out lpvos, so don't feel bad, but they have become a bit too normal for good social media engagement. I think within 5 years we will be seeing lpvo's with acog durability and similarly streamlined bdc's, and the current acog revival will fade but with people thinking about supply lines more these past few years questions about durability in the gun world have gotten more common.
I did the same thing when the PA Raptor 1-6 debuted some time ago. I was getting really comfortable with a red dot + magnifier setup, but jumped the LPVO shark because the internet told me I was missing out...and I immediately regretted it. Since then I've noticed lots of RMRs and T-2s being mounted up top 1-6 LPVOs at the 12 o clock position, and it makes perfect sense to try that setup or the suggested ACOG (less weight) if you want it all.
The bdc helping people who have very little experience shooting at distance is definitely a thing. Before I bought my TA-31d I had 0 experience past 200 yards. I was able to consistently get hits at 350 and 530 yards on a reduced c zone target once I got my wind hold figured out.
Just remember... Any fite you can run from is a fite you survive! I can see a lot of excellent shewters going down early because they engaged targets they could have run from. Use discernment and intelligence! For the Best chance of survival
ACOG is what I used the entire time I was in the army 2 deployments and even without the rmr you can use it for CQB if you train with it but I am still getting a rmr for mine. I see people jump on all of these fads and I just stick to what I know. ACOG is more rugged that just about any other optic, you get a good ass field of view, it doesn't need batteries so it would still work if we got hit by an EMP or shtf and stuff wasn't available, and anyone can hit targets out to300 meters with it.
I would caution using the term fad when it comes to LPVO's. They have been around for quite some time and if anything they have solidified their place in the competition circuit. Additionally there are military units making good use of LPVO's so it's by no means a fad. The pace with which the companies seem to be iterating upon their designs is pretty cool, and I look forward to seeing what will be available to the average consumer in another few years.
Yeah acogs are crazy. Watching trash regular army shooters ( cooks, dental hygienists, covid era privates in the infantry) literally double their rifle qual score just by putting one on. Still miss targets cause they cant reload or clear a malfunction. Bit still literally double their score. See it literally every time i do a rifle qual range.
I run this exact ACOG on my rifle, sans RMR. Little known fact, between the optic and the mount there is a tube that lets you see all the way down your rifle. It's a backup sight, even labeled as so in the booklet it comes with. Great optic, worth every $
The stadia lines in the acog also can be used as a range finder. The stadia lines from 200meters and up cover the shoulder length of a average man of 19 inches shoulder length. You can roughly estimate the distance and therefore engage a target accurately up to 500 meters.
There's actually a 4x32 ACOG on Sarah Conner's AR in Terminator 2 when she tries to snipe that scientist at his home, so ACOGs are much older than 20 years. I think 1989 is when they first became a thing.
I appreciate this video. I’ve been drowning in LPVO info for over two years. I forgot how good and clear the ACOG is, and completely forgot there was an LED model.
Through a ton of trial and error, I figured out what worked best for me as a general do-it-all type setup- Magnifier and Holo or Dot. Romeo4s and 8s or Eotechs with the extra dots are nice for longer range options in that format. Just my eyes that suck with LPVO diopters since they don't seem to be that strong generally (magnifiers are fine, oddly) and I have a requirement that I need to be able to use the optics if I lose my glasses. Try stuff yourself, don't just listen to folks on the internet or youtube videos. You're an individual person with needs specific to you. Local gun stores will often let you look at stuff without buying.
I first started questioning LPVOs when Garand Thumb reviewed one and basically said "I pretty much leave it at 6x and use the offset RMR for close in." ACOG with RMR just seems like a more practical option. Not as versatile as an LPVO but certainly more practical.
Just purchased a TA110-D-100496 for this very reason. Looked and looked and looked. Finally just went with the 3.5x LED ACOG with crosshairs. Perfect for what I will be doing with it.
I have old eyes and appreciate the higher magnification of the LPVO at distance. Cost is a factor too, ACOGs are twice the price or more. I run a 1-8 with an offset red dot for close range. Works well for range and home defense.
@noThing not comparable on quality. The HD is vortex's good stuff which is twice as much. Also second focal plane, meaning your MOA or MRAD reticle is only true for holdover at 6x. You're not getting a comparible quality LVPO to the acog at acog prices. If you want the adjustability of a LVPO, either accept that you're getting worse glass and durability, or expect to pay far more for a first focal plane LVPO with the same quality glass and internals.
I ran some ACOGs while on duty, and it's one of the only optics that never disappointed me. However, our station had several of the smaller, lighter 2x ACOGs and those were my favourite. Plenty of magnification for what I was likely to be doing, and yet still very useful in close distances. Was minimal enough you didn't need to run an auxiliary 1x dot, etc. Also the eye-relief was great on the 2x. However, as a non-agency guy now I can't justify the $900+ they want for them. I'm surprised that a 2x market doesn't really exist in combat optics. I was a big fan.
I know I'm late to the partyyyy but u should check out primary arms 2x prism and 2.5x prism optics. Just mounted on to my carry handle, it's pretty good so far. Worth a try I'd say if u can get them on sale
Sig also makes “bravo” optics in fixed 3, 4, and 5x. I can’t speak to how good they are but the 3x looks appealing for exactly the reason you’re talking about.
Best thing about an Acog is the field of view when compared to LPVO . Moving targets are easy to track and weight is night and day.. Upclose you just super impose that Chevron both eyes open. I would only need to use an RMR if I had an extra laying around...Buy used too. They are tanks. Your brightness may be lower if it's older but this is why they make battery powered instead.
@Mike Rodix Yes Field of View...The size of the area viewed at the same power level...Prisms give a wider FOV at the same power level just because of what they are. It also has less scope shadow so you can get in a more awkward shooting position and see more
Solid and logical points in this video. Comes down to what you have and what you have trained with too. ACOGs are awesome with obvious limitations. A Red dot with a magnifier is probably even more versatile in many ways but also has limitations. Never ran a LPVO due to never being issued one, the price point, and weight (mainly the price point because everything is expensive). But i have trained with ACOGs for years. Its what I know and have had the most training on. And that's how everyone should view their equipment, no matter the optics, if thats what you have or can afford, run it, train with it. Is an ACOG the best, absolutely not, is it going to work when i need it, absolutely yes! As for durability, im sure LPVOs will start rolling out with the same durability as an ACOG and with more streamline BDCs in the future. Especially since the USMC is looking into moving away from the ACOG. With military interest comes funding, which in turn funds more R&D and innovation. Perks of obtaining that blank check from the DoD. At the end of the day its all about what you have and what you train with. I do love the controversy and constant banter back and forth about ACOGs vs LPVOs vs Dot with a Magnifier though. Its interesting how the industry and media goes back and forth every few years. Almost like the gun industry wants you to feel like you have to buy their latest and greatest or the most trending thing at that time.
I had an ACOG in the Army and I found it easier to use than my 1-6 Razor I got later for my personal rifle when I got out. Pretty sure it was designed under the Army's "nose to charging handle" cheek weld/sight picture and it worked for me no issue.
The last 60 seconds of your video just sold a TAO2 RMR combo. Don't care what the price is, it's over! Thanks for the video. I started buying Trijicon "everything" about 18 months ago and that's all she wrote. Semper-Fi
Had a razor 1-6. A few months ago I decided I wanted to go with the TA02 + piggyback route for durability, simplicity, and weight. Running a ta-02 with a acro p-2 ontop. I absolutely love it. It's just really weird that after I made that switch, it seems like the acog is gaining traction again. It's such a good optic.
acog its the way to go to me at least, many people dont understand simplicity and weight because you dont notice it in the range, but try carrying the gun all day long with a heavy scope and you get a reality check. l like my setups as light as l can, thats why l like irons or small red dots BUT, when it comes to precision, both stay short, so the ACOG fills the gap, by being both light and precise, not to mention the range markings that makes you land man sized hits faster than with a magnified scope. Its practical shooting not a sniper competition after all
The acog is realy a good optic but for me the elcan specter in 1 to 4× is better for my do all riffle Thanks for your works it s a good video And greating from France 🙂
Ive been looking at the 3.5x ACOG for a while. The added eye relief and minimal FOV loss compared to the 4x makes it appealing to me. I still cant bring myself to ditch my EXPS3/Magnifier combo, and the next upper I'm doing is a MK12 Mod H-esqe upper so its getting a proper-ish 2.5-10x scope with a piggyback RDS.
I'm a nobody but I can say I called it! Prism sights and a canted/top red dot is an insanely versatile combo and has everything a person needs. Tanky and better than most people think. Also Lucas, thank you for also finally talking about the red dot magnifier, it's not a great setup for most things.
ACOG is a non-starter for many because there is no diopter adjustment. Might be great if you are 25 or 30 and were born with good eyes, I was, but by my mid 40s these are an absolute no-go. Something you want to check before buying one! My go-to magnified is the VCOG for that reason - got to have the diopter adjustment so I can see the reticle.
I tried red dot with magnifier ,LPVO , 2x Prism Scope and now i switched to ACOG All of them are great depending on what application you are using them But acog is my favorite
This is exactly my setup for the last few years, which I took some heat for online. It’s pretty much what I ran in Iraq (minus the RMR).The thing most people don’t realize about optics on 5.56 is 99% of people cannot effectively engage targets with 5.56 at the range you’d need a 6x or greater optic. The ACOG is a 4x for a reason.
Almost went with an ACOG and I'm not knocking it at all. I have ended up with 2 EoTechs, 1 Aimpoint, 1 prism and an LPVO with an offset RMR. Different rifles for different things and the LPVO is set to 5x. The RMR is an excellent tool for me and I can go out to a bit of distance with it but primarily it's for 75 yards and in. I will admit to being an EoTech fan for sure with me having 2 of them. I have the 2 dot set up on both and it's relatively easy to hit out to 300 yards. Love the Aimpoint also and it's just about as proven as the ACOG is. Just a simple dot but like the EoTech, eye relief and FOV are excellent. Great video Lucas.
I've been ACOGgang since 2016 or so and I've never looked back. I have 3 of them, and unless my absolute priority is distance for the general use of a rifle (something like a full size cartridge DMR), I prefer an ACOG over an LPVO any day. I have an Elcan Specter DR thinking that it would be better than an ACOG being that it has the ability to go from 1 to 4x, but the added weight and cost make an ACOG with top mounted RMR still the cost effective and superior solution, especially for a rifle you're trying to keep the weight down on. It's not a perfect optic, but paired with an RMR it truly is the everyman's "do -it-all" capable optic.
Pretty much been tossing around the idea of running basically this setup for the past year. Haven't spent any big money on a rifle optic yet, but the ACOG is becoming increasingly appealing. Hop-and-friends seem to like it also, particularly the 3.5x. I don't have a problem running the offset red dot mount alongside a magnified prism optic.
@@randyjohnson3654 probably way better than what I’ve got now… it would go on a 14.5 so really the best choice all things considered. Offset micro red dot would suffice I think for inside 50yds
I have a vortex strike eagle FFp 1-8x24 and yes, it can be a little more interesting-challenging when it comes to distance shooting rather than 25-100y. However, I bought an acog style Reddot and to be quite honest it has been some of the most comfortable shooting experience thus far, it feels natural, and yes, the weight difference is quite noticeable. I will keep my LPVO on my 16” rifle but I think for an 11.5” I will most definitely go for an acog 🤙🏽
The TA11 has a lot better relief and paired with a piggy-backed red dot it makes a great combo. Especially when you just tilt the red dot to your non-dominant eye versus lifting your head up. Makes the transition faster and you don’t lose your cheek weld.
An interesting discussion from 8 months ago. I have some thoughts with regard to why the truckers protest failed in Canada. They recoiled from “violent action” when the government resorted to tyrannical acts to crush them. “Violent Action.” Those are the key words, aren’t they? If government manages to create for itself a monopoly on the capacity to engage in violent action against its own people, then you have tyranny. Americans realized this in 1775. That’s why our ancestors DID engage in “violent action” in order to resist the Crown’s soldiers when they came to disarm the colonial militias. Then, once the Revolution was over, we enshrined that natural right to self-defense against tyrannical government by adding the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. That amendment was added by men who did not quiver and shake and wet their pants over the prospect of having to use armed force to defend their rights against government tyranny. It is time for people who aspire to remain free in ALL Western countries to abandon this government / Leftwing propaganda and brainwashing that has conditioned millions of people to reject the use of armed force as a legitimate means of securing essential liberty. ALL governments are not reason - they are FORCE. Only an armed population willing to push back against tyrants with armed violence will remain perpetually free. The very second you abandon this stance you are no longer a free man or a free woman - you are a subject - a peon - a peasant - a prole - and the bastards who rule over you can and will do whatever they want to you. The actions taken by the Trudeau government against the peaceful trucker’s protest proved that beyond any shadow of a doubt. This tough truth may be difficult for many of our Canadian brothers to swallow, but there it is - the truth. Time to come to terms with it and either man-up and do what must be done, or surrender and beg your new masters to be merciful towards you. It should be added that violent action is reserved for when all constitutional means of redress of grievances against the government have been denied or when government subverts or otherwise ignores the constraints of constitutional governance. It is always the LAST recourse. The very last. But a recourse it must remain, or in principle and in reality, you are no longer free. Why do you think the Trudeau government moved to grab the people’s guns in the wake of what they did to the people protesting in Ottawa? Because they fear that the next time they have their boot on the throats of the Canadian people they will meet with armed resistance. It’s really that simple. Governments that fear their own people will always move quickly to disarm them. And they only fear their own people because they are ABUSING their own citizens. Think long and hard about that.
Trex arms philosophy on the acog is exactly the same with mine when I bought mine! Its extremely simple and durable, not to mention light. Got the one from primary arms with the ACSS recital, I wish they make a LED model. I can say in agreement they are one of the best out there. The 20+ years of service in the military reflects that as well as my personal experience with them!
I prefer the Prismatic or Red Dot and magnifier system over LPVOs for many of the reasons listed.. I would like to point out that Primary Arms and Vortex are doing amazing things with Prism optics that come in under 350 bucks and weigh under 8oz... And given both those companies vast experience in the Prism Optic Market they are valid entry's ... And for magnifiers the Vortex Micro 3x is a cost effective/ low weight/ and low profile magnifier option ...
Picked up an SLX 3X prism this year from PA. Absolutely love it. 3X feels like the perfect magnification level. Love the ACSS reticle they’re using now. Never really thought I would prefer a chevron but having that nice sharp point is great. Shot in heavy snow the other day and really liked having the illumination off which is where the etched reticle of the prisms is great. The black contrast against the white was super crisp. Haven’t tried shooting at longer ranges yet to test the BDC. I’m sure it’s not as tough as an ACOG. Still, I am very pleased with it. Might pick up their SLX cyclops (1x) as well.
@@ABKATSOR22 good to hear man.. The PA and Vortex gen 2 are being highly reviewed so im excited for this new wave of affordable and light and high quality prisms
Have. TA31 RCOM. Mounted the RMR at a 45 really like the setup. Furthest real estate would permit was 500 meters but was able to hit often on a 6” x 12 target. Great optic.
Agreed that this is an awesome value combo. The only thing that I'd say has more value is my PA 3x Microprism on an ADM B2-C mount, plus a Holosun 407c on a T Rex Offset mount. Around $750 for all that and the whole package weighs 12oz. Insane value and insanely light.
I've been using a T2/TA33 with the Corvus mount. It's got a few quirks but it's the best lightweight combo of NV capability and useful daytime optic I've found.
Been wanting to do a similar setup with a Ta02 and T2 riding on top with the acog directly mounted to the Corvus rail. How does the HOB feel for the red dot chin/cheek weld wise?
@@dashdotdashdot8583 Good cheek weld if you "roll" the rifle so you view the T2 through your left eye. Marginal chin weld if you view the T2 with your right eye, but that's fine for close range or passive NVG shooting.
I kinda want to switch to an acog with t2 on top someday… but for now my PA 1-8 with 507c on top puts in work. Primary arms lvpo are pretty durable and are like $300
My favorite rifle setup uses this optic: 16in BCM MK2 Upper w/ ELW CHF Barrel, Thunder Ranch Aero Lower, Geissele SSP Flat Bow, A5 Buffer system, BCM Furniture, and a ADM Cantilever ACOG mount (Titanium) to fix the eye relief with backup irons. Only clears Mbus Pro sights according to ADM so mileage may vary with other sights.
Love my acogs I've used over the years issued and owned but I've been trying out the vortex prism 5x with the red dot on top and I really do enjoy it. You save an easy $300 but you lose out on some features but for a non nvg optic setup it's damn near perfect
I have a Vortex Spitfire 5x piggybacked with a Venom and it’s way lighter than the LPVO I had on it. Probably not as durable as an ACOG but it was really easy to adjust to as well
@@FreedomFest I really like it! The 5x is etched so even if the battery dies you can still aim. The dot probably isn’t as good as just an an aimpoint or eotech but it works and it’s super easy to switch between the two
In Ranger batt, we had all the latest and greatest shit, and I’ll still never forget our salty old 1st Sgt who’s killed more people than smallpox running a 16r in rifle with an ACOG. Thought that was something when most of us had MK18 uppers or SCAR H’s with EOTECHs, ainpoint, etc….
A agree with about everything Rex is preaching. Personally, in my opinion, the RDS on top is NOT an imperative if you don’t possess or plan on purchasing a NOD. ACOGs are rugged, great glass, and simple to use. If you have no prior training/experience it’s your best choice in my opinion. Compared to other quality optics, you’re actually saving money.
I honestly run slx 3x primary arms micros for optics. I have had good results for ME. Thats what it all comes down to. What will best suit your abilities
Finally, I can agree with Lucas 100%. The ACOG is the combat optic that still rules them all. Small size, ruggedness, light weight, German glass, BDC, and ease of use are the reasons the Corps chose the TA31. Twenty years later this optic is still relevant. Also, the BAC works for CQB as long as you train using this method.
Wish I could run out and buy a $1700 acog and pair to a $500 rmr but I guess I'm SOL 🤷 what's something similar but more affordable for the person who works 50 hours a week and has bills to pay? Not knocking expensive optics, but not all of us can pull em off because of the price. Especially with trying to fund range time in the first place
Most of these tubers are product pushers. Some give legit options and see how deep are your pockets. As civilians buy best self defense weapon and optic you can afford. Govt. is the only domestic Terrorist you need to prepare for alphabet boys. Head shots 0-300 meters. Red Dots and irons will do. It’s the operator not the weapon!!! Rock on Gents.
I have found that I can shoot really well with a red dot out to 200 yards, past that to 500 yards and I have found that a 3x magnifier works well. I get consistent well placed hits. But I also practice with this setup a lot. I think for most people this works. Most engagements likely wouldn’t happen past 200 yards, unless you’re out west . In that case get a prism or lpvo (I would still prefer an lpvo in that case.)
I prefer the TA11F ACOG. The 3.5X35 has better eye relief than the 4x. I also really like the no battery needed vs battery powered optic. It really is nice to know I will have an illuminated reticle that just works. It means I don't have to remember batteries, switching or settings. There are times where battery powered stuff is better but even in that case I find that my ACOG still works well enough that I am ok with the trade-off.
Solid info. I'm glad you discussed this topic with the amount of subscribers and views you get. I said and filmed a video saying the same points. Many people fought me and thought I was nuts.
I still believe the best optics setup for most people is a red dot with a magnifier. The average inexperienced person does not need to look through a tube while in a gunfight.... they have enough fog of war in 1x
@MylesKillis In theory. In practice, it's worked just fine for me, as long as your gun is the same temperature as outside. Really, only the droplets on your eye side really matter
ACOG TA110 (3.5x) has better eye relief than the 4x. I run that with a Trijicon RMR on top and run BUIS without issue. Awesome video and info, keep it up.
I am German and I am always completely freaking out when I see you training in your enviroment. I Would love to train like That. In Germany the Police Special forces would come and sack you after the first mag.
I like the informational videos like these. Helps open your eyes to some stuff. Have you ever made or thought of making a video about setting up rifles from basic target shooting all the way up to a “fighting” rifle?
The acog is a perfect general purpose optic. I've been running two for years on two different rifles and through 5 different training classes. This battery powered one would be great to look at.
One thing I see a lot of ppl doing with top mounted RMRs is they pull their head up and break cheek weld to use it. Something I learned a long time ago from watching a random video about the Leupold HAMR is instead of pulling your head up, tilt the gun and use your other eye to look through the top mounted RMR. So for example, I'm right handed and look through optics with my right eye. When I need to use the top mounted RMR, I tilt the gun as if I'm using a canted RMR and look through the RMR with my left eye. This lets me maintain my cheek weld and helps keep the gun stable. Of course, if the RMR up top is mounted at the back of the ACOG, you still won't be able to use it with nightvision. Just wanted to share something I don't see a lot of ppl doing; if there are cons to what I said, feel free to let me know!
You can zero the ACOG at 25m. Just use the 300m hold at 25m if you're running m855. Confirm at 100m from there and you're good to go. We go from 25m to confirm at 300m in the Army.
I've have both lpvos and acogs, I believe they both have there place, I like both and don't think you can go wrong with eather, but I definitely agree with Lucas for new shooters or just best value the acog is hard to beat!
This is an interesting perspective, I called Trijicon and talk to a tech. He said the 1-8 vcog is what I need and works fine with my Ar15 chamber is 300 win mag.
I dunno, I've never tried an acog but have used everything else and I think if I wanted more than my G33 with an eotech I'd probably just swap to a G45. With your battery holder you sell in my kit I'm not super worried about the batteries. ;)
i run ACOG's on everything! Can't beat the price point on clarity and they are built like a tank! I prefer the tritium+fiber optic, so you never are looking for batteries.
ACOG's will always be relevant. That's not just for us GWOT boots to say. They are reliable in austere conditions and do what they are designed to do-- in their case accurate and rapid engagement of a target. Any piece of gear that meets those requirements will remain relevant. See also, iron sights.
I've always been biased towards red dot with a magnefier. When garandthumb made the video about recce rifles and the whole minutemen meme a lot of people were telling me you should get a LPVO as if it was the do it all optic. I will not change I'm comfortable and I have more training with red dot + magnefier and that's what matters more🤷🏻
It *is* a do-it-all optic, but it seems everyone forgets what that means. It'll DO everything. But it won't do any one thing as well as a more specialized tool will. Imagine my shock. But, as one man once said: "Specialization is for insects."

They all release videos on the same products for a reason. $$
The bdc helping people who have very little experience shooting at distance is definitely a thing. Before I bought my TA-31d I had 0 experience past 200 yards. I was able to consistently get hits at 350 and 530 yards on a reduced c zone target once I got my wind hold figured out.

@@mitchellsheridan5252 thanks brother! Best times of my life were serving for the people of the USA 🇺🇸
Shit like this is the reason I bought an ACOG. Thank you for your service, sir!
I run this exact ACOG on my rifle, sans RMR. Little known fact, between the optic and the mount there is a tube that lets you see all the way down your rifle. It's a backup sight, even labeled as so in the booklet it comes with. Great optic, worth every $
For new shooters or people that don’t shoot often, this acog and the barrel length and bullets it’s designed for is the best thing anyone could do.
The stadia lines in the acog also can be used as a range finder. The stadia lines from 200meters and up cover the shoulder length of a average man of 19 inches shoulder length. You can roughly estimate the distance and therefore engage a target accurately up to 500 meters.
TA02 is very popular in Norwegian SOF units, availability of AA batteries, and the red dot on top and front for passive NVG is really nice :D
When is Daddy GarandThumb going to talk about how Thicc Lucas is getting?
@@mechbest8685 just stop.
There's actually a 4x32 ACOG on Sarah Conner's AR in Terminator 2 when she tries to snipe that scientist at his home, so ACOGs are much older than 20 years. I think 1989 is when they first became a thing.
87 pretty close

Ok, now I gotta watch T2 again. Damn it's been a long time!
I think he’s talking about how long they’ve been in service which was around 1995. So still 30 plus years.

ACOG has existed since like 1987, in general, which is just mindboggling. 35 years!
I’m so happy about this video. I’ve been running an acog rmr combo the last few months. Was running the razr LPVO but it was just so heavy
I just put my LPVO on and went to the range today. I had a great time.
Acogs aren't twice the price of a comparable quality LVPO, its just that the low end LVPOS get cheaper than ACOGS...
Do a lot of home defending do you?
@@troyshaffer1229 TA02 is 2k€ in Germany 🙃Razor Gen 2 1-6 is 1.7k€
@noThing not comparable on quality. The HD is vortex's good stuff which is twice as much.
Also second focal plane, meaning your MOA or MRAD reticle is only true for holdover at 6x.
You're not getting a comparible quality LVPO to the acog at acog prices. If you want the adjustability of a LVPO, either accept that you're getting worse glass and durability, or expect to pay far more for a first focal plane LVPO with the same quality glass and internals.
@@asymsolutions Jesus it's LPVO lol
I’ve seen ACOGs more and more nowadays! Based optic
Best thing about an Acog is the field of view when compared to LPVO . Moving targets are easy to track and weight is night and day.. Upclose you just super impose that Chevron both eyes open. I would only need to use an RMR if I had an extra laying around...Buy used too. They are tanks. Your brightness may be lower if it's older but this is why they make battery powered instead.
field of view?
oh you mean turn the lpvo down to the right level instead of all the way on or all the way off
@Mike Rodix Yes Field of View...The size of the area viewed at the same power level...Prisms give a wider FOV at the same power level just because of what they are.
Semper-Fi
This was a great argument and convinced me to buy the exact same setup just now. Love your channel and appreciate all the great info you share.
Its practical shooting not a sniper competition after all
Primary Arms 1-6, etc w/ACSS reticle (BDC) FFP has worked for me. Good points & good suggestion.

The KRAM spacer from Weapon Outfitters is a solid upgrade to pair with ACOGs too.

It's not minimal trust me. You feel it.

Red dot + magnifier does things better than ACOG + RMR.

Underrated comment. This adjustment can be really important in some cases

I remember the HAMR 4x with a top mounted RMR. That was about eight years ago... We've come full circle to that.
Be careful some acogs have shit fov
@@randyjohnson3654 probably way better than what I’ve got now… it would go on a 14.5 so really the best choice all things considered. Offset micro red dot would suffice I think for inside 50yds
Got issued an RCO/ACOG in the Marines, Love my Razor HD but the tritium in Acogs are awesome. Not to mention bomb proof
It’s a worse optic. Bigger, clunkier, heavier, less FOV with less mag. People like it because it can hide training flaws.
I use the ta33. 3x and twice the eye relief of the ta31. With a green chevron, it's my favorite
The 20+ years of service in the military reflects that as well as my personal experience with them!
crazy light for as old as it is. honestly the acog was way ahead of its time and is still relevant. I'd take it over any other optic.
Why is it no longer available? Limited run?
@@kinghunternick1365 yeah, unfortunately it was one of those limited edition kind of deals they had.

Primary arms lvpo are pretty durable and are like $300
Had a acog and various dot setup. Wanted to like it. Hated it. Sold it.
Next on TRex arms… why iron sights are the best option ever.
An adapter plate for the rmr footprint changes that on the vortex
Apparently the Steiner MPS comes with a mounting plate that will fit the Spitfire 5x.
Acog is iconic and the best optic for me. It was diving into many entertainment media for a long time. It's never old.it's usable

With the new LED models the BAC is even easier when you crank the brightness. I don't see anyone mentioning it but my TA02 is brighter than my CompM5
Larue RCO mount helps the eye relief too. It’s my go to setup.
The 6 minute gun drop and the music lol. Your seriously Knowledgeable and very entertaining!
Primary arms has a more affordable setup
Save up or use credit and pay it back
I was finally one step ahead of Lucas on something. My crowning achievement.
I run a simple vortex red dot and backup iron sights. Perfectly capable for the ranges I need with 223
Most of these tubers are product pushers.
Exactly most folks thinking they’re going to get in a long range shoot out while living in the suburbs
I'm exited for all the cheap LPVOs coming to tacswap within the next week lol
I still believe the best optics setup for most people is a red dot with a magnifier. The average inexperienced person does not need to look through a tube while in a gunfight.... they have enough fog of war in 1x
Except when it’s raining or foggy and they have to deal with 4 lenses with water on them instead of two.
It’s heavier, clunkier, and worse FOV. Eye relief isn’t an issue if you run it all the way to the rear.

Thank you for all your excellent videos! The teachings are great!
8 months later and literally half of the guys I train with are running acogs and love them.

@@cstgraphpads2091 100% true and worse battery life but at the end of the day it looks drip and that's all that really matters lol
@@IFarmBugs EOTech + magnifier gang
But the eotech doesn’t really have a precise reticle like an ACOG or 1-4/6/8
This is an interesting perspective, I called Trijicon and talk to a tech. He said the 1-8 vcog is what I need and works fine with my Ar15 chamber is 300 win mag.
I dunno, I've never tried an acog but have used everything else and I think if I wanted more than my G33 with an eotech I'd probably just swap to a G45. With your battery holder you sell in my kit I'm not super worried about the batteries. ;)
I agree. Acog/offset is my preferred setup for the 5.56
You had me at LPVOs suck
Why?? Lol

Don't think we missed the reference at 10:39 lol. That was a good one

Lucas is one of the most legit LARPers out there. He is committed.
Negative. I don't LARP enough doing SUT or field exercises.
i run ACOG's on everything! Can't beat the price point on clarity and they are built like a tank! I prefer the tritium+fiber optic, so you never are looking for batteries.
Lucas trying really hard to keep Acogs alive.
